I would be using this unit to sous vide food. Can I use the bags multiple times for sous vide (vs. just vacuum sealing)?

Answer: I have not tried sous vide cooking using these bags, however the manufacturer recommends not reusing the bags if you use them for cooking or when storing meats. There are a number of bag options on Amazon recommended for sous vide cooking that would probably work better.

Answer: I have never tried to seal liquids. I wouldn't think this is designed for liquids since the bag has to be horizontal to seal. I bought it to use for meats to prevent freezer burn. Never tried it with dry ingredients, but I'm sure they would work fine.

The other key is get a plastic 12/16 oz cup from fast food place like BK or wendy's. Cut the bottom out and you have a flexible funnel, so you don't get food at the top of the bag where you seal the bag.

For example the manufacturer website says one action to take, and the instruction booklet says another. How easy is it to clean these resuable bags? With solids? With liquids?

Answer: I haven't used the bags enough to give you a really good answer. But it seems relatively simple although it's a pain to dry the bags. I turn them over on bottles for them to dry inside. But I will say that I like the unit itself. It is small and not cumbersome to handle. I also have a Food Saver, I do like it but it's big and bulky. I've already dropped and broken my first one. For big jobs I use the food saver and for every day use I use the Oliso. Hope this helps.

Answer: Great question. I returned the unit and replaced w/food saver brand for this very reason. Cleaning and sanitizing is a chore. And if you are using for souis vide poses food safety concerns--as you can get bacteria growth when using a re useable. Also, I noticed replacement bags are expensive and hard to find

Love this machine. It is compact so doesn't take up much space on the counter (in fact I think it will fit in a drawer with lots of space left over) and it seems to do everything my Foodsaver vacuum sealer does ( which is almost 3 times the size of the Oliso). Haven't had this for long so the only unknown for me is if it holds the seal long term the way the Foodsaver does. I'll have to get back to you on that:). But so far I love it!

The only reason I haven't given this five stars is that I have yet to find out how it handles "moist" product -- meat in a marinade, for instance. But in terms of the paces I have put it through, it has performed like a champ. I think what I like best is that it is both easy and intuitive to use, and I am NOT mechanically minded. So the fact that I was able to use this right out of the gate was a huge plus -- no poring over the manual, no depressed calls to customer service, no crossing my fingers...it just works. Bought this based on Serious Eats recommdation which is normally reliable. Opted to pay more thinking the resealable bags would be worth it.

I’ve been struggling with this machine for the last 2 years and finally decided to replace it with a traditional food saver after using one at my friends house and remember how much better they work.

Works fine for dry food like cheese. Useless for anything with moisture. Chicken or steak works well if pat completey try. The bags are one time use if used in sous vide, they don’t really seal properly again if you try and reuse them.

Overall: I’ld recommend the bags is you want to use the water displacement method they are heavy duty and nice. Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

Tom : What a disappointment that was

One of the reasons I bought this was to use the attachable vacuum tube to the "frisper" bag for pantry items, to be reused indefinitely. What a disappointment that was. I put the food in the bag, attached the vacuum tube and sealed the zipper using the free zipper tool supplied. After the machine cycled through the vacuum process, which did indeed remove the air, but as soon as it stopped or as soon as I removed the vacuum tube the bag IMMEDIATELY refilled with air. I did try one of the regular vacuum bags which did seem to hold a seal, but will have to see if it holds the seal.

Now for the PRO's I do love the small size of the unit. It's small enough that I can leave it on my counter top all the time I bought some third party marinating containers. The vacuum tube worked well with these so you could probably use these for re-usable pantry items if they are small enough or buy larger 3rd party containers. The part that is my favorite is that I also purchased a food saver wide mouth mason jar sealer. I'm getting started on dehydrating spices & other items. I use the mason jar sealer all the time for this purpose & the mason jars are reusable for ever as long as you are careful when unsealing the lid you don't bend the lid. If olisio ever decides to make better bags, this would be a 5. otherwise decide on your sealing requirements.

I purchased this vacuum sealer to use with my new sous vide cooker. I can't compare it to other sealers, but it works great. Because of the reusable nature of the bags for both sous vide cooking, freezer storage, and dry pantry storage (super easy and convenient), I believe that the operating costs of this unit will be in line with other brands/types of sealers. As a bonus, it came with 3 wine bottle stoppers that can be used with the tube attachment! I will update this review in a couple of months after I've had to a chance to use it and gauge its cost-effectiveness, but after my first couple of uses, I am very pleased with this unit.

UPDATE: I'm still getting used to the device, but I have a couple of thoughts already. I did not purchase it for the reusable pantry bags, but I think that I will be using these a lot to keep things like pistachios and cheerios from going stale. Second, the other Oliso bags have places for 10 reuses, but I believe that if you are careful, you can get many more uses out of the bags. One caveat is that you need to clean the bags, which isn't too difficult, but you do want to do carefully to remove any food contamination. Having said that, being one who doesn't like to waste, the reusable nature of the bags is environmentally friendly compared to some of the other single use vacuum sealers.

Agonized over purchasing the Oliso, especially the mixed bag of reviews here on Amazon. My experience is that about half the time the seal on the bag will fail although I suspect that might have to do with inconsistent quality on the bags rather than a fundamental defect in the design of the system. (I think the starter bags that ship with the unit may be of weaker quality.) That said, the reusability of the bags is appealing as is the smaller footprint as compared to the FoodSaver. Bonus: I can confirm that this device works with the FoodSave accessories including the wine stopper as well as the mason jar sealer. If you're aiming to purchase try and find the version that includes lots of bags. (I found it at another online retailer.)

We are just getting into Sous Vide cooking and after reading hundreds of reviews and questions relating to several brands of vacuum sealers as well as viewing a number of videos from owners of vacuum sealers we decided the Oliso was the one to buy. We have only had it a short while but already love it. The the sturdy reusable bags are a great idea and the entire sealing process is so quick and simple that we are already using it frequently and are making food purchases with vacuum sealing in mind. The small size is so nice to have as it takes little counter space or it can be easily stored in a drawer. The wet/dry sealing feature was one of the criteria we had set for a sealer and this product accomplishes both easily. I highly recommend this sealer.

This item was a completely let down. It would vacuum seal my items but after a few hours air would get inside the bags, at first I thought it was because of the bags but it was not. The machine for some weird reason would vacuum all the air out but right before finishing it would freeze sometimes and not finish the process and air would get it. I kept thinking it was the bag so i tried my friend's machine which is pretty much the same machine but different model and it would work fine. So i guess i received a defective item.

I loved this unit from the moment I got it. It does a great job of sealing. It is small, so I don't
have to keep it on my counter. The food last for months in my freezer. My husband always
cooks for an army, so it's nice to have of way to keep his delicious meals over a period of
time. Otherwise, we'd be eating the same dinner for a week.

I don't care for the wet setting mostly because I don't like having to clean the unit. It works
great on the dry setting. If I have something wet, I put it in a container without a lid.

Recently, the vacuum quit working; the seller sent me a new one. So Kudos to the seller for sending
me a new unit and standing behind their product.
One tip: when sealing, use the bottom sealing dot areas first. The bags become smaller; it is makes
them more difficult to use later.

I bought this object on the basis of the recommendation of Food Lab, which has fabulous recipes and is an otherwise brilliant resource. However, this product is atrocious. It simply fails at its core function, which is to vacuum seal bags for sous vide. All of our bags leaked air either immediately or shortly after immersion. This device has already cost us two meals. I simply cannot trust it to do its job. In fact, it is so bad, I have now have serious doubts as to the reliability of any other recommendations from Food Lab or its parent brand, Serious Eats. A shame.

Matt R. : Can't re-use bags as advertised

I bought this item mainly due to the advertised ability to use the bags 10 times. However, I didn't realize that with the first use the bag becomes an inch and a half narrower due to the seal. After one side is sealed, using the other side of the bag makes it another inch and a half narrower. It makes it harder to get the food it and harder to clean, and I am virtually always cooking meat. I was only able to use a bag about twice, as the seal would not hold after that. It's somewhat hard to get seasoned food past the zip lock without getting seasonings and juices on the zipper, which makes it harder to close securely without damaging the ziplock. The unit is really noisy.
I like the compactness of the unit, otherwise not so happy. I returned it.
