Is this knife made in China or Finland?

Answer: the wood handle does say Finland I also happen have a 4" soft grip still in package and it does say China,reguardless of where it was made at it is a great knife still have the original one i purchased a "7" model" 40++ years ago along and still have this 4" that is not quite as old 20+years would not go fishing with out them.

Answer: No, but funny you ask, because I impregnate the leather sheath on one side with blue magic to polish the blade after using a stone to sharpen it. This is my favorite fillet knife. Not pretentious, all business.

Answer: Pretty Bad for me also. I bought a 4" model and it had an imperfection in the blade that was pretty obvious and should have been rejected by their quality control people. Almost seems like these are "seconds". I managed to sharpen the blade and remove some of the defect and figured I would just live with the rest. I really should have sent it back. Answer: Should work perfectly. I use mine all the time to cut large sirloin roasts into 1/2" x 2" x 6" long strips to easily run through our meat grinder for making very lean ground beef. It's a great knife. Like any knife, keep it sharp. The included sharpener makes that easy.

Answer: Any high quality knife sharpener Will work I have three of these knives sometimes I use my electric knife sharpener sometimes I use my handheld ones sometimes I use the ones in my fishing bag. I use these knives for absolutely everything !

Answer: Definitely use 20 degree (or slightly less) angle on a whetstone. 45 degree sharpen will ruin the edge. I just sharpened the 6" version to shaving sharp on my waterstone. It is really tricky due to the flex in the blade. But a little patience and you'll have it. The stones i used were 3000/6000 grit.

I've used filet knives that come with $400 knife block sets that weren't this good. The quality you get for so little money is insane. Sheathe is nice and has a plastic insert so that the blade doesn't damage it (also adds rigidity to the sheathe to protect the blade as well). Blade itself is super sharp out of the box, and the steel is of good quality. We've been cutting meats with it for well over a month now nearly daily and it's showing no sign of wear.

Definitely one of those gems of a product where you totally underpay for what you get. Those Finns know how to make a filet knife, I tell ya. Upea veitsi!

After 40+ years of filleting thousands of fish, I can make the headline statement with a clear conscience. There is no such thing as "The One Perfect Fillet Knife". Why? Because fish come in differing types and differing sizes. However, after owning and using fillet knives that cost in excess of $100.00, my goto fillet knife is still the Rapala. I own Rapala fillet knives in 4", 6", 7", and 9" sizes and can honestly say they are the best fillet knife made . . . just fit the right length to the fish. You can buy prettier fillet knives or more expensive fillet knives but none of them will do the job of filleting fish better than the Rapala!

my larger rapala of 20 years is my favorite knife for everything. these sharpen razor sharp so easily. I bought one for a new winter home and thought length was the blade length. but it is the whole knife length! Smaller than i'd have purchased, but i found I liked it and though I may buy a larger one too, this one fills a void the other can't-although using the tip of a larger one can do the same as this mostly-but the small flexible blade is really good for working around the backbone of smaller fish-where a larger stiffer blade would waste meat. This is like a scalpel.
It's REALLY SHARP-so be careful or get a cut resistant glove. I bought the stainless steel mesh one after buying several 'cut resistant' cloth ones (not cut or poke proof-just slows the balde down so you don't hack your finger off, but you can easily poke through a cut resistant glove and most didn't have protection in finger ends-so splurge on the stainless mesh one (read carefully-I bought one that said stainless steel wire and it had a single strand woven into the kevlar fiber-and when I got it, I was leery and tried snipping off a finger tip and it snipped right off! So I ordered my stainless one, which offers velcro like grip on fish too).

Finding a beat up old Rapala boning knife on the beach some years ago turned our kitchen in to a one-knife kitchen. The wife uses it for just about everything. Even after an unknown time in salt water and an unknown history it was incredibly sharp and we still have never sharpened it. I could just barely read part of the brand name on the handle of the knife, but Google identified it for me and I found the line on Amazon and ordered the six-inch knife package (sheath, sharpener and knife). It is a beautiful package, but so far the wife still uses the boning knife for most cutting, but she did cut a butternut squash with the new knife with good result.

Great knife for even general use. I use these in the kitchen and have various blade length sizes for boning meats or even slicing vegetables. Very sharp. It's the knife I always reach for first.

I've been using the Rapala 9" knife for as long as I remember fishing, that has to be 60 or so years. Still, the best filleting knife to date I've used. The only changes the knife has gone through are price increases.

I have been using these knives for more than 30 years and have always been happy with them, so naturally, when the point got broken off my last one, I bought another.

When filleting fish, I make most of my rough cuts with an electric knife, but when it comes to more precise cuts, such as trimming out the fillets or removing skin from a catfish fillet, this knife is tough to beat. The blade is thin and very sharp, and if it dulls a little, a few swipes on the included sharpener will bring the razor edge back. I also use it processing big game, mainly hogs and deer, where a flexible blade and precise cut are needed.

There are fancier, more expensive knives out there, but the Rapala does everything I need and does it well.

The only knife in the kitchen (even though it is marked only for cutting fish fillets). These knives are incredibly sharp (even kind of scary sharp).
Some years ago we found one in the surf at the beach. It was somewhat nicked and very dirty, but we picked it up anyhow. It cleaned up pretty well and it was amazingly sharp. Wife liked it so well that she used it for nearly everything for more than ten years (no way of knowing how old it was considering its source). Recently one day when she was using it, the blade snapped off back in the handle. She couldn't live without it so I ordered another and it's even sharper.
