Questions about Weston Pro-2300 Commercial Grade Stainless Steel Vacuum Sealer (65-0201), Double Piston Pump, Pro-2300 (Stainless Steel)
Q:
I've read most of the reviews; most favorable on performance. What comment do purchasers have for the long term; 6 months, 1 year?
Answer: Had mine for just over 2yrs. Used sparingly, maybe 1-2 times per month. Worked good until the pump failed. $159 + shipping. Word of advice, get the warranty!
Answer: I used it heavily for 6 or 8 months, and it's been stored for the next 6 or 8 months, so I can't say for very long term use. However, one of the reasons I chose it is that small parts can easily be replaced, rather than junking the whole thing as you'd have with a cheaper brand. I've also used others' sealers like FoodSaver and I can tell you this one is much better quality.
Answer: This thing has been incredible. My wife and I dont have kids yet so we just go and buy a whole pork loin because its dirt cheap and i cut it in to roasts and chops and some chunks for stir fry and then we vacuum seal everything up all at once. Well we have had this thing over a year and done chicken and steaks and all sorts or cheeses. We are pretty hard on it. We went through two food savers in two years and they weren't the cheap ones. They were under warranty but i dont like purchasing things because of the warranty. I am fairly frugal but I am not scared to spend on quality and this is it.
Answer: I have used this unit to seal fish, pork, beef, and, believe it or not, valuable documents in special folders. I have gone through a few boxes of bags, a few rolls of bags, and the only replacement I've had to make was to the teflon tape on the heat sealer. I do not regret spending the money. However, the painted model is just as good as the more expensive stainless steel case model.
Answer: I've had mine for a year now. Noticed a distinct slowing of vacuuming as well as a failure to seal similar to the Foodsaver line, but I've had foodsavers bad out of the box, lasting maybe one week!! I purchased a "tune up kit" and noticed the plastic adhesive stripping barely covers the ends of the seal line, so I used a bit of duct tape on both ends to make sure the ends were covered. Frankly, I feel I shouldn't have to do this seeing this is supposedly an upgrade to a Foodsaver (and pricey to boot). So far it seems to have done the trick; we'll see how long it will last after that.
Answer: I had mine for over 8 years with heavy duty use weekly with no problems until now, but I'm not going to keep ordering parts and not fix it. So I'll order another and keep this for parts.
Answer: We have been using ours hard for about six or eight years does so well we bought another one. It is not rare for us to do a moose or 50-80 salmon at a time
Answer: Nine years of light use and going strong. Love that we can use the Mason jar adapter for jars, and other "Foodsaver" accessories.
Answer: We have had ours for 7 years, use it frequently and it's still working perfectly.
Answer: i have had mine for three years and it still works as good as when it came out of the box. I use it monthly and mainly seal fresh fish, cheese, etc. have had no issues or need of any replacement parts.
Q:
how do you seal chicken?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I put the chicken (usually quarters, half, or individual pieces) in a Weston bag, making sure I have adequate room on top to fold over the bag and clip it with a office clip, or paper clip. I put it in the freezer until it is frozen, then I take it out, take off the paper clip, and seal it with my Weston sealer. It is a lot less messy if the chicken is frozen and the juices cannot run into the sealer. Caution though, make sure the chicken juices do not contaminate the outside of the bag when being assembled, and stand the bag upright in the freezer (so juices do not run out). Hope this helps.
Answer: A live chicken? Well, I don't recommend that. Too many sharp things to poke holes! But if it's just pieces of chicken, then seal it like anything else. Put it in a sealing bag and put the open end in the machine and seal it like normal. The juices that come out will collect in the juice catcher and it will seal the plastic in spite of it.
Answer: Cut into pieces appropriate for the vacuum bags you intend to use, pat dry excessive fluids, then seal as you would any other item.
Q:
Would the Pro-2300 work with the Foodsaver zipper bags via the Foodsaver zipper bag adapter?
Answer: What do you mean by "Foodsaver zipper bags via the Foodsaver zipper bag adapter"? Are you asking if you can use bags other than those specifically sold for the Weston?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: don't know.weston has there own zipper bags now.good idea would like to try. sorry
Answer: We've used Foodsaver bags and they work fine.
Q:
Anyone use this for fresh filed fish?
Answer: No, I have never used it for that purpose. I am going to assume you intend to freeze the fish after sealing, hence the reason for vacuum sealing. If my assumption is correct the way to proceed would be as follows. 1. Ensure NO pin bones remain in the filet. 2. Rinse and dry completely with paper towels. 3. Put filet in a vacuum seal bag and place in the freezer, lying flat, until the filet is VERY firm. 4. Remove from freezer and vacuum seal as you normally would. 5. Return to freezer.
Answer: I buy pounds and pounds of fish at Restaurant Depot that I freeze . This machine gets the job done, quickly, quietly, and efficiently. It is heavy semi- professional machine. Comparing this to a Food Saver machine is like comparing a Ferrari to a Chevrolet - I'm very pleased with this machine
Answer: We have done 50-80 salmon in a sitting on many occasions. The unit does amazing. We have three in the group and we have been using one of them for about six years, hard years. Fish, caribou, moose, and everything else.
Answer: We use the Weston for beef, pork and yes for our bull head fish. Seems to work fine. If too much fluid though you have to blot dry as will not seal with too much fluid.
Answer: If I use it on something with too much juice I freeze it before sealing. I have had mine 7 years working great.
Q:
Where is the tube port in the Weston Pro 2300?
Answer: When the lid is open there is a little port that is normally the vacuum for bags, but works for the hose. It's a great machine!
Q:
How can a buyer compare the vacuum efficiency or "strength" of this unit versus another?
Answer: I have seen tests for this unit. It will produce a vacuum of about 18 bar on a bag. 29 being about as good as it gets. It will do more thru the port, but your not supposed to use that or it will void the warranty. I can place a bag done on mine in my chamber sealer, then the bag will explode. That means the unit is not getting all the air out, just most of it. More than enough to prevent freezer burn. If you want a true vacuum, get a chamber sealer for double the cost.

Answer: The Pro 2300 will pull a vacuum of 28"Hg / ~.95Bar.
Answer: Yes by the amount of vacuum produced. I believe this vac produces 26mm Hg. But it's not just the vacuum that should be compared it's also the overall quality. My experience is that they are far superior to food saver. If you read through the reviews and watch some reviews of the Weston online you will probably find similar opinions. Many people also prefer the Weston vac bags to the food saver bags.
Answer: I had the popular food saver for many years. It died after one year. Totally made of plastic. This machine is solid metal and Plexiglas construction. Completely different animals. It's like comparing a kia verses Lexus or land rover. The motor that drives this is much stronger. In short of buying a supermarket version of vacuum sealer this is the next level down for home use. also my recommendation is to purchase the manufacture's bags. They are best in the market.
Answer: I've had other sealers and this one is definitely the strongest. I sealed a bag of chocolate chips and they were suctioned together so much that it felt like a brick. This thing is amazing!!!
Answer: Purchased as gift for spouse who had several foodsavers over the years for use at hunting time. He loves this one claims much faster, stronger, better sealer.Likes that can buy replacement parts for this if needed.
Q:
How does this perform at sealing cooked meats for freezing, foodsaver wont seal well if moisture is present between bag layers??
Answer: We raise and sell chickens. We've had a few problems with bags coming unsealed but it's usually a pinhole somewhere in the bag and not because of moisture in the bag, or where it was sealed. We do make it a point of wiping the excess moisture from the area that's going to be sealed before we seal it. The chickens that are sealed keep fresh for a very long time. We are very happy with their purchase and do recommend this item.
Answer: IMHO, if moisture is in the sealing area... it will not seal. the "trick" is to get your food into the bag without wetting the area to be sealed. e.g. use a much larger bag and fold the bag down so that the sealing area will be dry when the food is inserted. Food saver has a pricey bag "designed" to help avoid the problem- I do not know how well it works.
Answer: Every bag has sealed, has big sealer tape. When I had a foodsaver and sealing something wet and juicy,i would place a paper towel inside the bag at the top before sealing.frozen paper towel hurt's nothing.Good Luck
Answer: Neither will this. Its just another Food Saver, just built better. No vac bagger can deal with liquids of any kind, but, freeze it first and it becomes a non issue. I also put a sheet of paper towel at the inside top of the bag, but before the seal area, to catch the juice as its squeezed out. Never had an issue.
Q:
What is the duty cycle of this sealer? Can it be run continuously for several hours? I've burned out several FoodSaver units processing large batches.
Answer: I use mine regularly for processing large batches of fish and have run it steady for hours with no problems. You just have to time it so you leave it sit for 20 seconds between bags, which is usually about as fast as you can go anyway. I have also burnt out several food saver specials but this one works well.
Answer: I have run it for hours with no problems or breaks. The only time it rests is waiting on the vacuum to release the lid. That's it.
Answer: As you, have burned up several sealers- but have found this one to be the best so far. Can run continuously, with occasional cooling down of the sealing strip. So far happy with this one. Hope you are as satisfied with yours as I am with mine.
Answer: Spend the bucks and get one. Those food saver units are destine fore the landfill before to long,no fix no parts BS
Q:
How wide is the seal on this machine
Answer: Seal bar is 16" long.
Answer: 15 inches is all it will do.
Q:
I want to purchase this sealer, but not sure that it is a model 2300 because you are not specific. Do you sell Weston bags and other accessories
Answer: I have done a lot of research on vac sealers ,I purchased a food saver designed for sportsman today , and the duty cycle is pathetic (tired of waiting), it is going back tomorrow. I am going to bite the bullet , and pay the price for the Weston 2300 , all of the reviews seem to be good to great on this sealer (only bad complaint is bulky size ), if you research it will do canning jars also with a little research (another brands hose). also I have seen Weston bags on amazon.( Also you did put this posted question, in the results for the 2300 model ) so I will assume you are looking at toe 2300 model
Q:
does anyone have a problem with cover not releasing after sealing? if so, what's the fix?
Answer: Have the same problem. Vacuum and seal is complete cooling light is off takes at least 5-10min before I can open the lid
Answer: There's a piece of metallic tape that covers the sealing bar. It looks like packaging material, so it's very tempting to remove it. It needs to remain in place
Answer: It's not releasing because the vacuum isn't complete. you have to sometimes push down on the cover to get it to seal.
Answer: When its new, the door can be a little "sticky", but it didn't do that for long. It shouldn't take no more than a light tug to open it.
Answer: Yes what the others of said don't pul stripe off and push down on the lid to help remove all the air.
Q:
What is the biggest size bag that can be used? Where is the item shipped from in US? Can this product be shipped to Colombia?
Answer: Hi Liza, the 2300 is a commercial-grade vacuum sealer with an extra large bar for sealing bags up to 15" wide. This item will ship from a CA warehouse. We do not currently support shipments outside the US on Amazon, however, most of our international customers arrange to work with a freight forwarder in the US, that will accept their packages at a US address, and forward them on to them in their country. You can find a forwarder via any search engine. Note that the cost of freight forwarders is additional to the product cost listed here.
Answer: Capable of sealing bags up to 15-inch wide, shipped from Ohio, yes it can & it is a 110V
Answer: Largest bag for this unit is 15 inches wide, shipping is within the United States only.
Answer: 15" x 18" yes it can be shipped to Columbia check with Amazon on shipping TY sealersupply
Q:
crazy question...wondering if I could "laminate" paper with this sealer???
Answer: I think the vacum would likely cause the paper to curl/crumple unless you put a piece of paperboard,or cardboard behind the paper.
Answer: I personally never have tried it but the web said its possible....you have to use cardboard sleeves in order for it to work.
Q:
What is the main difference between the 2100 and 2300 models? Are they the same wattage?
Answer: If you can Google the models and find out or if I were you, contact the manufacture; Weston, directly and and call them. Don't email because it may take a long time for a reply or no answer. I looked at label on the bottom and the wattage says 935. I have the 2300. I have fish I have caught a year ago and still I can eat them. The only bad thing about this one is there is no cutter built in. I hope this helps, but still Iwould directly call the manufacture and ask them.
Answer: The color all other parts are identical Dave sealersunlimited.com
Q:
What are the dimensions? Length, width, depth?
Answer: I mostly agree with FoodVacBags' answer. The 22 1/2" width is allowing for the on/off button and room for the cord to be attached (without pinching the cord) on the right hand side of machine. The cord detaches from this model though and has a storage place at the back of the machine for the cord when not in use, which adds one (1) inch to the depth they stated. Therefore you could potentially store this unit, when not in use, in a 19 1/2"W x 13 1/4"D x 6"H area (with the electrical cord detached & stored at the back of unit in order to keep the cord handy & out of the way during storage).
Answer: It is 19 inches wide by 13 inches win depth and at its highest point about 5 inches. it is an industrial grade vacuum sealer. i expect it to last 10 years at least, i also bought the extended warranty. something i rarely do. I love this machine, i put steaks in a bag with a marinade and then vacuum seal it. the marinade goes into the meat. The Best Indeed
Answer: This machine measures 22-1/2 wide by 12-1/4 depth by 6 inches high.
Answer: Read the specs it's in there. Fits on the counter nicely. It's heavy.
Q:
vacuum mason jars?
Q:
Does it seal liquids ?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: This machine is not meant to seal liquids. You do not want liquids to get into the motor in risk of it being damaged.
Answer: freeze the liquid first then seal
Answer: Not with the vacuum on. Use the manual seal feature to seal the bag without vacuum (and without the liquid getting into the sealed area & possibly degrading the seal). Then, the seal is good enough to contain liquids.
Answer: We have owned several vacuum sealers and this is the best one ever. When it comes to liquid and vacuum sealing it doesn't work unless you freeze the contents first, which I do when it comes to making sauces that I want to seal. Fill the containers, set upright in box and place in freezer overnight. Vacuum seal the next day.
Answer: You would need to freeze the liquid first. Otherwise, it would suck up all the liquid into the motor.
Answer: It doesn't vacuum liquids, you have to manually seal the bag w/o vacuuming the air out.
Answer: I don't think u can cause if u have chicken with a little juice u have to put a paper towel inside bag to stop moisture from touching the sealing bar
Q:
Considering this for comercial for smoked brisket vacuum seal, is this fine?
Answer: Smoked Brisket is fine, just as long as you drain some of the liquids out. The machine is equipment with a tray to manage that, but I've found the seal is better with less liquid in the bag.
Answer: If not much juice to brisket, then it's okay, but allow extra length of bag so small amounts of juice don't get vacuumed into seal. If a lot of juice then freeze it first then vacuum pack in the frozen state.
Answer: As long as your brisket is refrigerated before sealing it should work fine. I sealed braised short ribs and it worked wonderfully. Found it to seal solid hard items Much better than things like cooled polenta or other soft items
Answer: Would not purchase. Consider the Vacmaster sealer. Its a much better sealer and better priced
Answer: I have had very good luck with this product. My answer is yes
Answer: yes
Q:
Which brand is best, FoodVacBags Bags & Rolls,VacMaster Full Mesh Vacuum Rolls, Weston Embossed Channel Vacuum Bag Rolls, Vac-Fresh or Food Saver?
Answer: I use Vac-Fresh 11"X50' and 8"x50' that I buy here on Amazon. The savings over the others is substantial and they seal and last just as good. Good luck and good cooking.
Answer: I buy all our rolls from www.vacupack.com - The prices are good and the quality is excellent.
Q:
Does it have accesory port to vacuum mason jars and marinade jars just like foodsaver?
Answer: Yes, it does. But you will need to purchase the hose and hardware separately, as they are made by another manufacturer. The "port" to plug the hose in is under the hinged lid.
Answer: No
Q:
How this machine comparing to the "The NEW FoodSaver® GameSaver® Titanium Vacuum Sealer"? Most reviewers on foodsaver.com got the machine for free
Answer: I'd have to disagree with this answer; I've gone through 7 Food Savers in the past year. Hence why I'm looking at purchasing the Weston 2300. The price difference is worth the time I've spent dealing with poor quality, budget Food Saver machines.
Answer: I bought his machine in the summer and returned it to get a Foodsaver that was about $150 less, and it blew this Weston away. I didn't get the GameSaver you're asking about, but I can tell you that the value and quality of ANY Foodsaver model will be greater.
Answer: @rdrdinghood are you the big bad wolf that works for the Foodsaver helpdesk?
Answer: Don't have one....... I am done with food saver products !
Q:
Does Weston make a portable chamber vacuum system ?
Answer: Thanks for asking. Weston is working on a home unit for chamber sealing. VacMaster has the VP112 which is a great smaller model for regular kitchens. We sell lots of them and customers love them!
Answer: No not a chamber.
Q:
Im not asking how wide (15") for example on the factory edges the heated seal is approxiately 3/4" wide so how wide is the seal width?
Answer: It is about a quarter inch. We always seal it twice, one seal about the other, that way if one is not as tight or as good a seal, no smell, no leak.
Q:
Over night shipping available?
Answer: No. The fastest it would arrive is within 1-2 days and it would be very expensive due to where it is shipped from.
Q:
can the Weston seal mylar bags
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9dzaeC0hG0 Yes, it will seal Mylar bags.
Q:
does it seal jars

What is the difference between the weston 65-0101 pro 2100 and the weston 65-0201 pro 2300??? just the color or what else? thank you
Answer: Simply the color and cost are the only differences. The stainless will show fingerprints a bit more than the white, but it is a very nice looking finish.
Answer: Yes, the Pro2300 is stainless steel. The Pro2100 is white. Otherwise, they function the same.
Q:

Q:
can the Weston Pro-2300 be used for compressed fruit/vegetables? Is it powerful enough?

Answer: Yes, it's a very powerful machine. It works quickly and quietly. I am very pleased with this machine. We buy in bulk and this machine gets the job done quickly
Answer: It's the best I've used, but I use it basically for meat. I've used it for dried fruit also.
Answer: Yes- this is a commercial vac sealer
Q:

Q:
Does it seal Mylar?
Answer: I would think it would melt off the sections.
Q:
I have to put a lot of pressure on the handle to make it start sealing and it doesn’t make the “sealing” sound when done, just a click. can i fix it?
Answer: Thank you for your question. We would recommend you inspect and perhaps replace you vacuum chamber gaskets (foam seals) as these can become compressed, damaged, or worn and cause the issue you are describing. If this is not the issue or you need any more support please feel free reach out to us via our website's contact us page as we would be more than happy to continue to help you trouble shoot your issue.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Something is wrong. I didn't have to put a lot of pressure on it, just one finger.
Answer: Most likely need to replace the foam seal strip
Q:
can I use foodsaver bags?
Answer: I have not tried food saver bags but I don't think they are significantly different than most other vacuum bags available here.
Q:
1.) Will it work with canisters? 2.) Dose it have a pulse function?
Answer: Not sure about canisters? It does have the ability to control how much suction you choose.
Q:
Does it have a bag cutter?
Answer: Good morning and great question! No, this machine does not come with a bag cutter but you can find bag cutters that are sold separately and are relatively inexpensive. Thanks, Jo
Answer: No bag cutter
Answer: No.
Answer: No it does not
Answer: No it does not
Q:
I'm viewing this product from Australia. Can I assume that the machine in 220-240v and will come equipped with an Australian power plug?
Answer: I live and bought mine (from Amazon) in the USA and the unit came configured for 120v, 60Hz and with a power cord to suit. Even though the unit is not made in the USA, it seems it is only configured for USA household use because several questions regarding availability of 220/240v models on the Weston site have gone unanswered by the company. It's a great unit; perhaps you can find a step down transformer rated for 1.2 KVA?
Answer: I have no idea. I bought mine in America and it came with a plug that works in my 220.
Answer: I'm not sure where they're made but the customer service is in Ohio. It came with a cord that plugged in to my outlets - in Indiana, USA. You might contact Amazon about this question. You could also contact the company: http://www.westonsupply.com/Weston-Vacuum-Sealers-p/pro%20vacuum%20sealers.htm
Answer: That I'm not sure of. Because I live in the US. Mine comes with the plug that we need. Otherwise then that the machine is wonderful.
Q:
Can you use any other 3 mil vac bags with this unit or just the ones they provide
Answer: I found that you can use any type of bag we bought some from one of our local stores and we also some from Cabelos. They all work well but the heavier they are the better they protect what you put in it.
Answer: I can't say if you can use "any" other bags, but I've used non-Weston bags and done just fine.
Answer: You can use others but we have found that the FoodSaver bags work far better than the fools we have bought. When we use up the rolls we have we will be using the FoodSaver brand. Hope this helps.
Answer: I've used non-Weston vacuum bags with no problem.
Answer: Although we've never done it, we believe that you should be able to use any other type of food sealer bags.
Answer: I occasionally use foodsaver bags and they work fine.
Q:
Is there a difference in the silver lid, and the blue lid?
Answer: The lid is not actually blue. That model is stainless. Blue is just the protective plastic that comes on it, just peel it off when it arrives. This is by far the best one we have ever purchased.
Answer: Just the color of the housing on the machine. One is white, the other silver.
Q:
ours is not sealing like it use to. can you purchase parts for the PRO 2300?
Answer: I believe you can I would look it up online
Q:
How long will the bags preserve food without freezer burn? Has anyone had the machine long enough to know if the vacuumed seals and bags will keep foods beyond 2 months without freezer burn?
Answer: I have keep food in the freezer for at least 1 year without any problem. Unlike the zip kind of bags, which if it 2 months your lucky. Anything more than a year really not a good idea. Having a sealer machine is the best thing a family could invest in to keep te cost of food down.
Answer: We raise and sell chickens. Some are 7+ pounds. If you get a good seal on the bag we've had it for over five months now with no problems at all. We have had a few bags that the seal broke on and they were in danger of freezer burn. We revealed them, and they are fine.
Answer: Have kept fish sealed and frozen for up to 9 months so far without freezer burn.
Answer: I agree that you are fine for up to a year, so long as the seal remains intact. Anything beyond that, and meat quantity suffers for reasons other than freezer burn. I've had very few issues with the seal holding up, since it is so wide. Excellent product.
Q:
Can hot soup be sealed in the bags
Answer: No, it won't be able to do that. But what i do is to freeze portions in small containers, then pop out the frozen portions, then seal them.
Answer: No. You would need to freeze it in another container first then vacuum seal it
Answer: I doubt it, unless you used a very large bag and put a small amount of soup in the bag.
Answer: Yes, but it's best to allow it to cool first for safe handling. There's a button to stop/interrupt the suction so you don't remove liquids.
Answer: I havent tried that, I don't think it would work.
Q:
Are this bags ( http://www.amazon.com/vac-fresh-embossed-vacuum-11-inch-50-feet/dp/b0052boexg ) compatible with this machine?
Answer: This machine can seal any bag that is up to 15in wide. So yes, it should work.
Answer: Can't be 100% sure, but I think so. Size, for sure isn't a problem.
Answer: YES all day and twice on sunday ;-)
Answer: Yes
Q:
It doesn’t work how to repair
Answer: Go to Weston.com and click on "contact" where you will find their customer service tel number
Q:
I have noticed with cheaper units, it is hard to seal the bottom of a bag made from a roll, making it useless. Is this one better?
Answer: The Weston is one of the best units you can buy. I use nothing but the rolls and have had zero problems with sealing the bags. Good luck and good cooking.
Answer: I've been using my Weston with premade bags but it has a wide sealing strip and does a great job of sealing the top so I cannot imagine a circumstance where it would not properly seal the bottom.
Answer: This thing seals like a million bucks every time, I have used cheaper units, no comparison, this thing rocks.
Q:
what wston model does come with a bag cutter built in?
Answer: No bag cutter
Q:
IS THERE A MODEL WITH A BAG CUTTER?
Answer: Weston does have a vac sealer with a bag cutter, the model 1100, note it only has a 11" sealing strip not 15" as this model has.
Answer: No. This model does not come with a bag cutter.
Answer: No I do not have one with a bag cutter.
Answer: Weston does not make a vacuum sealer with bag cutter.
Q:
I read a review that said the newer model had a bag cutter. Is that true?
Answer: The model I bought last year does not.
Answer: No it doesn't.
Q:
Look at the picture. Is it a Pro-3000 or 2300? Thank you,in advance.
Answer: Thats a pro-3000, 100% sure
Answer: It is a Pro 2300 go by product description not the photograph they are identical it looks and I am sure they are using a stock photo for both
Answer: The listing/info is for the 2300. Thank you. :-)
Answer: Looks like the 2300.
Answer: 2300 is what mine is.
Answer: 2300
Product reviews of Weston Pro-2300 Commercial Grade Stainless Steel Vacuum Sealer (65-0201), Double Piston Pump, Pro-2300 (Stainless Steel)
Kevin : If you do a lot of vacuum sealing, or seal oily foods, spend the extra money and purchase this vacuum sealer.
I bought the FoodSaver V4440 from Costco and the FoodSaver GameSaver. Both vacuum sealers worked ok for less oily foods and lower volume of seals, but couldn't keep up for sealing 50-60 2-5lb bags of oily pulled pork in one continuous session. Neither sealer was able to make a good seal with oil in the sealing area and neither sealer had a see-through lid so you can see the sealing area. After a year, I had to replace the sealing gaskets on the GameSaver, and the V4440 was sealing less before requiring a lengthier cool down period. I had to double seal bags to ensure they were sealed properly.
The Weston sealer is amazing! The sealer is able to make a 1/4" wide seal even with oil in the sealing area. The machine requires a short cool down period between seals (average of about 5 seconds), but can seal 50-60 bags without overheating. It's considerably larger and heavier than the FoodSaver sealers I have, but I value the reliability of the seal over any weight/space issues. The price is what kept me from buying this sealer earlier, but it is worth every penny. This one sealer is replacing my other two FoodSaver sealers.
I vacuum seal about 50-60 bags of oilier cooked meat about every 3 months, so I'll provide an update as I'm able to use the sealer more.
Veronica : This sucks in a good way!!!
The suction is awesome I got the Weston Pro-2300 Commercial Grade Stainless Steel Vacuum Sealer (65-0201), Double Piston Pump to seal fresh vegetables after blanching them and it works great. I have only had it for two weeks but I am already impressed with its power. The only disappointment is that it does not come with any bags. However, I did some research and found that food saver bags work well with the unit. Although the unit is a little pricey so far it is well worth the money. After, returning another brand, it stop working (kept losing suction) the day I received it, that was less expensive I am happy to have something that works and works well.
Kathleen L Turner : Not worth the money
This machine started out ok, but then after processing some fish it started having issues. The tape over the heat element burned. The bags didn't seal and/or vacuum. I changed the tape and it seemed to work ok to finish the fish so I put it away. When I got it out today to freeze some meat I had the same issues- at one time the tape even smoked and sent out a flame. I again changed the tape but it was very hit and miss. I should have stayed with my foodsaver. I wish I had returned it when I first had issues.
Bruce Betancourt : Works great with wet foods!
Works much better than Foodsaver brand sealers. Very basic controls, easy to use and seal no matter if water, oil or blood is in the bag. Easy to clean vacuum chamber. It does not have a roll holder or cutter, but it makes up for that in performance. I harvest over 200 fish per year and lots of game, no disappointments here!.
Kiki Del : Worth every penny
I process a lot of wild game and fish each year, I have owned three other vacuum packers all worked when new fairly well, but do not last any amount of time. This machine is great, I have tested it on fish and meat, and it is excellent. Plenty of suction, and most importantly seals really well. I do not know how ling it will last, but the sealing strip is easily replaceable, so I really do not see any long term issues. It is already better than any Vacuum packer I have owned. I wish I had just spent the extra money on this unit instead of being dissapointed over and over with other products that cost less.
Christie Stevenson : Great sealer.
Love this sealer! I’ve used another brand for many years but got tired of being frustrated with heat strips going out and not being able to seal large batches of food all at once due to the unit overheating. I did my research and found Weston sealers. It’s quiet, quick and I can knock out a lot of sealing without worrying about overheating the unit. Another great feature is being able to purchase additional heat strips instead of replacing the unit. I highly recommend this sealer.
Bruce Betancourt : Works great with wet foods!

scott stroede : Real good machine.
I have had my Pro 2300 for three years. We have vacuum packed four moose and three caribou with it. Once we start we don’t stop until everything is in the freezer. That’s all day when processing moose and the vacuum packer is on the whole time. This machine has held up for four moose with no cool off breaks. My old Cabela’s vacuum packer that I had before this one had to have cool off breaks and never made it through the first moose. I have had to replace the gaskets and seal strip once. No big deal. It is a real good machine.
Amazon Customer : Not good for bulk sealing of meat or fish. No adjustment of vacuum motor. Do not purchase as hunter or fisherman.
I fish and hunt. I purchased this unit to seal meat and fish in bulk after a successful day fishing or hunting.
The unit does not adequately remove air when sealing moist meat and fish.
The motor that drives the vacuum sealer only runs for 2 or 3 seconds.
To get it to run longer--which is necessary if you wish to extract most air before freezing (the whole reason one buys a vacuum sealer) you must trick
the machine into thinking it has not established an adequate seal.
To do this, you must cut little strips of 2 sided vacuum bags and place them across a "corner" of the oval seal
insert the bag that you are trying to seal.
hit start
the machine will run until you remove one of the strips from the corner. --while maintaining downward pressure on the lid.
This may work approximately 50% of the time if you leave 2 minutes between running the motor.
Any faster, and the strip will not heat adequately to seal your bag--regardless of whether it is a weston bag or anything else on the market.
Why must I develop an elaborate workaround for a product that I spent close to $400 on?
better question: How much do I need to spend in order to get a sealer that does the following:
1. Extracts all air before sealing
2. Is capable of establishing a durable seal every 60 seconds.
If you would like to do either of the following, do not purchase this unit. I thought $400 would be enough but clearly it is not.
playfulbreeze : Powerful and easy to use.
Other than the price this product is the bomb so far. After a few weeks of researching I always ended up with the Weston PRO 2300. Soon as I received the product I went straight to Costco and bought some meats in bulk.
AdrianTouchstone : Was expecting more bang for the buck!
This is a monster of a vacuum sealer when it comes to durability and longevity. I underrated this product because I don't want other buyers to think there is no skill or personal touch needed in operating this sealer. For things like rice or beans, that can not trap air and keep it from being vacuumed out, the sealer works great with no need for manipulation. However, if you're planning on sealing steaks, especially thick cuts, you need to make trial runs to get a feel for the sealer. What I mean by this is that the size of the bag and the position of the meat both have an effect on how well the package is going to come out devoid of all air. I noticed that I had better luck holding the sides of the bag out, resisting the vaccum, to get the best results. I don't have any problems with the unit but I just thought I would be able to put my product in a bag and push a button and be done. The sealing element works well with this unit and overall I'm satisfied because I don't know any better could be the reason.
L. Fishburne : Very Good Vacuum Sealer
I really like this vacuum sealer and it is very tough. However, since fresh meat can be very bloody I wish there was a "moist" setting. I gave this sealer a four star because liquid can get under the tape and rust the metal sealing strip. Other than that, it is a workhorse!
Albert Moore : The best Vacuum Packer I’ve ever owned
I love the features on this Vacuum Packer, plus the very size of it is also awesome.
CraigB : Excellent food sealer
I have used several lower cost vacuum sealers in the past, always with disappointing results. I purchased this one when my wife bought a huge freezer and we needed a way to preserve freezer food for more then a few months.
This unit is commercial grade, very attractive stainless steel. Very powerful vacuum and sealer, it does its job flawlessly. I have not had it shut down due to over heating as others have and I have pushed it hard. This as proven to be a good investment for us.
Heather Graehl : Broke very light home use June-Oct 2018, failed, service, returned still defective
I am a very light user for my homemade cheeses and cured meats, probably did a total of 30ish seals using this packer over a few months. Bought June, installed June, failed by end of Sept. Sent my service query in October, I replaced the seal as they suggested, then came all the painful parts of their service. The phone support is the only way to get through, they don't do good email support (often times no response at all). But then sometiems phone system is down, so then you have to email.... anyhoo after awhile of them saying they'd send me a shipping label and return instructions after our call, they never sent it. I had to follow up. Fast forward to me calling again, I finally got on them in Nov 2018 to get this shipped in, which they couldn't sent me a shipping box, that was $25 out of pocket for shipping. They sent me a label at least, but that took convincing.
Finally get it back after $300 worth of food is spoiled or cured meet is over dried. Had to throw away food. Dec 28, I finally try to re-seal using their provided bags and same problem occurs, vaccum works, no seal! I call support and phone line is down due to technical difficulties... I sent an email. As of today Jan 3rd, I have no response.
I feel totally ripped off buying a commercial grade product specifically for reliability and am put through this headache of an experience. I also own a Weston meat grinder (no problems), but overall my experience with the brand has been the worst brand experience I've had... worse than airlines which is saying a lot.
Wish I bought a cheap $50 vac packer and would not have a problem replacing it every year or so. If Weston wants to make this right, I may change my review. I'm about to write to BBB.
xenoc : Well built but the suction power is a bit wanting
Easy to use, simple and built like a brick wall. Only downside is that the suction power is limited and while it gets better when I really press on the lid, its not enough to remove all the air from most of the food Im preparing and definitely not enough to compress foods as called for in some sous vide techniques. Not sure if I got a lemon or this is typical for this model.
wafuradio : Great Product!
I bought this sealer so that I could do a better job of saving leftovers for reheating and storing items that I buy in bulk. Though a little expensive, i believe it is well worth it. It is an extremely well made, sturdy and solid product.
Some things I found... (I used Weston bags)
1. Beans, rice, and cheese seal great on the auto seal setting. Also have done partially used onions, ginger and spices.
2. Pasta sealed better when I chose to manually seal it - the auto seal sucked too much air.
3. Liquids are tricky.. Can't really get the air out for obvious reasons... But I was able by using a slightly larger bag and the manually sealing to store meatballs and sauce.
4. Use a piece of paper towel inside at the top of the bag to seal juicy or marinated meats.
This is a great sealer and I would recommend this for purchase.
Nate Caplan : This thing really sucks... and that's a GOOD thing!
I purchased this as a replacement for a FoodSaver that continuously overheated after sealing four or five bags. That FoodSaver was the a replacement (under warranty) for another one with the same problem. I don't use the vacuum sealer often but when I do it is usually for quite a bit of product. The last time was a rib eye that I bought whole, trimmed, and cut into steaks. I had about 25 steaks and the FoodSaver overheated after sealing two or three pieces. Each time it did I had to wait 10-15 minutes minimum for it to operate again for another three or four pieces. I was left worrying about my prime grade beef out of the refrigerator/freezer while I waited for the unit to reset.
With that last exasperating experience I started looking for a better replacement and came across the Weston. The only thing holding me back was the hefty price. I returned the FoodSaver to Costco and this time asked for my money back (good old Costco returned the cash no questions asked). I took that money and put it toward the Weston making the cash bite less painful.
When I got the Weston the first thing I noticed was its weight. Much heavier than the FoodSaver and obviously built more solidly. It can also accommodate much wider bags. I caught a special on shelled walnuts and bought about 12 lbs. (we do a lot of baking). It was a good test run for the new sealer. It's performance? Flawless! It vacuums the bags quickly, seals the edge and then the sealer releases automatically. To save money on bag material I tried shortening the reccommended length and I found that if I support the bag while it vacuums and seals I don't need to leave as much excess in the sealer. It may not seem like a lot but saving a bit per bag adds up in the end. You can also save material by sealing the bottom of the bag very close to the edge, something you cannot do with the FoodSaver unit. The quality of the vacuum is better with the Weston as it vacuumed the walnut packages into hard little bricks and much tighter than the FoodSaver vacuum.
A lot of the comments seem to be from people that got tired of the FoodSaver glitches. I don't think these two are even in the same league! If you just seal a bag or two occasionally the FoodSaver should do fine but if you seal a lot of bags then the Weston is well worth the price in saved time and aggravation.
Please note: I would have rated this higher but the price IS daunting so I held back but the unit works great!
Ted Morphis : Great product
I live in Alaska and I’m tuff on a vacuum sealer, believe me! When a guy is sealing 40-50 sockeye salmon at one time that’s a workout not only for my Weston but for me as well. I haul it to remote rivers and hunting sites , I haul my Westin wherever I go and never fails to perform perfectly.
Law for will : Vacuum suction
The suction is not accurate. You have to apply pressure when sealing or it will suction properly....it can be very annoying....
Michael's Custom Shutters : Nope!! Looks good....but looks do lie:-/
Had to send this puppy back. Literally over heated itself while trying to vacuum seal ONE sectioned out pork butt. One pork butt, one dead machine........Not what I had in mind.

Amazon Customer : Back to Foodsaver
I have owned several of the competing Foodsaver products over the past 20+ years and have been reasonably happy with their performance, but I would consider them more of a "disposable" appliance with a limited life. I was excited to try this Weston after reading a number of strong reviews. On the plus side, it is built like a tank and is very easy to use. The negative is a deal breaker for me, in that it is below average at completing the 1 task for which it was created. My past Foodsaver products left a little more air than I prefer, but still little enough that I can pull fish out of the freezer after 3+ years and it tastes as good as it did when 1st caught. I would estimate that the Weston leaves 3-5 times the amount of air in the bag as did any of the Foodsavers. I tried Weston bags, Foodsaver bags, reworking the foam seal, wetting the foam seal, and nothing improved on the amount of air remaining in the bag. I was truly hoping that I had found the last sealer I would ever need, but will be buying another Foodsaver product for the next round.
Lady of the farm : Good powerful vacuum and seal.
First time using a vacuum sealer. This one was recommended by a friend as worth the money. I love sealing up food for the freezer with it. I've used different size bags and different sorts of foods in the bags. Vacuum and seal are powerful and get done quickly.
Pikros : Doesn't last long!
This product stopped working in less of a year from purchase. I have another cheaper one (that I was looking to replace) that is still going and this expensive one just died.
CraigB : Excellent food sealer
I have used several lower cost vacuum sealers in the past, always with disappointing results. I purchased this one when my wife bought a huge freezer and we needed a way to preserve freezer food for more then a few months.

Amy Lyn : Wish I bought this sooner
Wish I bought this sooner! Suction works great. I use it for my dog food business and it works great for moist foods tho the dryer the food your trying to vacuum seal the tighter seal you’ll get. Upgraded from the FoodSaver and the difference is night and day.
Billebob : Love it!
Works great, should of bought this year's ago instead of screwing around with the other brand!
Kariel : Received in classic Amazon efficiency, on time and packaging was good. But???
This machine works well but takes time to figure out its full potential.
Seals good with some time and may be a good fit for a week ender
but not a commercial operation as it take about 1 minute per package.
The wife and I processed a 900lbs bison roughly 400 lbs of meat in 18 hours
with 8 hours spent packaging using this sealer. Universal fit rolls of bags was nice.
Overall there are more pricy, better machines on the market but for us, this product
was a good fit and value considering we had the luxury of time and time will tell of its
craftsmanship and quality.
D. Skye : I wish I had bought one of these years ago.
This is a great vacuum sealer. It's easy to use, draws a deep vacuum and seals very securely. I'm able to seal two bags at once with this unit, cutting my time spent sealing food nearly in half. It works perfectly with the Foodsaver brand bags I've got.
Keith Steele : No vacuum suction
I bought this a year ago never had a chance to use it.
I have used it and it doesn’t vacuum very good. My friend has the same one and it works great tight vacuum seals perfect.
How can i make my vacuum sealer work better for me?
Thank you
Keith
woodworker : not all functions work. Customer service DOES NOT respond to requests for help
Vacuum and sealing functions work well. Manual Seal function does not work at all. Have tried to contact Weston customer service. They do not take phone calls. They do not answer emails. I will contact AMAZON about what to do next.
Amazon Customer : Very industrial. Got a restaurant - get this - unless you want "more" ...
LIKE: adequate (but not stellar - more later) suction; very good sealing - even in presence of moisture; very easy to use.
DISLIKE: Hmm... not much. Would like to have better/easier control for suction action and when to seal...
WORKAROUND: When sealing - there are three buttons: "Start" "Manual" "Stop" - if you hit "Start" and then hit "Stop" before the sealing operation, that can 'buy you time' to get some more air out - push on the air pockets at the "far end" of the bag - then hit "Start" again - and you'll generally get better quality evac/seal on odd shaped items.
We used this for fish, worked well. Looking forward to many more uses.
DISLIKED: There is no "test" or "starter" bag set shipped. This led to frustration/confusion and almost a return, since the bags we had didn't work with this. A better quality (and more expensive) bag solved that, but it would have been cheap/easy for maker to include a couple of bags to 'prove' to the customer it works...
Highcountrybulls : Packaged a whole moose and caribou this week and it ...
Packaged a whole moose and caribou this week and it performed flawlessly. I do wish you could vacuum partially then hold the vacuum to allow time to adjust the contents of the package and get more air out before final vacuuming and sealing.
Brigette M : Awesome!
I have gone through a few or the "regular" sealers you get at the sporting goods store. They work OK for a little while under light use. When the last one gave out I wanted something that was heavier duty. I have customers and co-works come down for fishing trips and I like to vacuum seal their catch before we pack it for the flights home. This sealer is heavy duty and allowed me to seal bags for 2 hours straight only taking the occasional break to let it cool off a little. It blows the store bought sealers out of the water!
Erik S Kessler : Used 10x over the past year and no longer seals
I purchased this vacuum sealer in July of 2018 and used it about a dozen times sealing fresh salmon. Of course, this August (1-month after the 12-month warranty expired), the machine no longer seals. It worked fairly well when "tricking" it with the extra strip of bag in the corner to add to the overall suction. Hard to believe this is necessary on a unit that is advertised as commercial-quality. Not worth the $430.
I sent an email to their customer service to get a suggestion on the fix. So far, no reply after 3 days. I guess I have to figure out how to fix it on my own.

J's mom. : Works well and is super sturdy
So far loving this machine. We went through several of the small generic sealers over the years and finally decided to spend a little extra and get something nice. This is perfect. Very well built, easy to use and heavy duty. The thing is quite large so you'll need a good size table or lots of counter space if you have a lot of sealing to do. I think these machines are all overpriced for what they do which is why I only gave it 4 stars.
Delphine Bailey : I am sure it is a great unit but I have to order a new heat ...
So frustrated.......package said it came with extra tape for heat bar.....well guess what it didn't even have one on the heat bar let alone an extra......I am sure it is a great unit but I have to order a new heat bar kit before i can use since it melts the bags......
Lamb : Big, noisy and a beast
So far so good. Not using for food but other stuff for long term storage. Time will tell if it’s a good value. Keeping fingers crossed for a long life span
Arcadia : Had to Settle for It's Baby Sister!
Great Machine! But, we had to return! Now don't leave just yet. We loved it, 15" sealing width, strength of seal, quality of build, power, etc. The only thing we didn't realize is that although it has a vacuum port, it is NOT made to vacuum seal containers, marinators or mason jars. We dehydrate large amounts of our garden production and make pounds of jerky so this ability was a necessity. MY Fault for not doing more research and perhaps Weston should make note of this in their description of this wonderful sealer.
We wound up ordering their Pro 1100, which has the 11" sealing bar (like most other vac sealers (FoodSaver etc)), as it has the external port for sealing containers and mason jars as well as a roll storage and cutting bar. It is also 4" or so narrower. As we don't process large wild game, we had to decide on which options were more important to us. The Weston Pro 1100 won that decision. Either machine will be a significant addition to any kitchen.

Karen Fredrickson : Can not recommend
This machine works well. I have bought I total of 3 of these. The other two where a little smaller but same looking unit.
I gave one as a gift and the receipts where moving soon, it was not unpacked and tried out before the return period had
expired. I did not try to return the bad one for this reason. I can not recommend these units nor would I buy another one for
This reason.
CarrieC : 5 Star Product
WOW! We have owned 3 other sealers of another brand. When we put up large quantities of food, those other sealers eventually failed. Out of sheer frustration we started searching for an alternative and found the Weston. Oh it cost a bit more but boy was it worth it! This product performs perfectly. It was well worth every penny we spent.
Chuckmeister : really impressed
Bought this product after reading the reviews here. First I must say that the negatives that were given by previous users in my opinion were user errors and not the unit. I found this out after sealing half a side of beef and pork. This was approx. 500lbs of meat. Mine was already wrapped in paper and frozen so I did not have the problem of liquid preventing the sealing of the bags (Weston bags)I found this out later when i tried to vacuum and seal some meat that was not frozen or partially frozen. And this made sense when you look into it...how can you get a proper seal when the liquid is preventing it. Also when you place the bag in the vacuum chamber make sure both sides are not crimped and are flat and smooth against each other. If not you will not get a good seal. Once again not the equipment but user fault. I found also when trying to vacuum meat that was not frozen that if you place the edge of the bag too close to the vacuum ports you might get liquid in it and could create a problem.I would suggest to place the edge of the bag just inside the chamber and you should not have a problem. Also if you vacuum meat with sharp bones you might get bag failure later as the bag might get punctured. Again not the machines fault.
Only problem i found which is not really a problem is that i have to let it warm up for about 2 mins. before start vacuuming. After that it vacuums like a champ.
Since i received this I've vacuumed everything in the freezers (even meat that was previously vacuumed sealed by the processor)that is how much fun this is to use.
I will do another review in 6 months.
Musicman44mag : Works very well. Update 11/22/20
11/22/20. Ok, I have had this unit for awhile and can now add to my review. This unit has gone through 250 bags and is still running strong. I would suggest getting the repair kit that has the replacement sealer strips in it. After about 150 bags, the bottom one started to wrinkle. I would take it while it was hot, lift it up and pull it tight with my left hand and re seat it with my right hand. It will go about 10 bags or so and then wrinkle again. If you place the bag over the wrinkle it might not seal in that spot. I have a kit. Next month when I vacuum pack I am going to replace the strip so I don't have to monitor it or readjust it while packing meat. The upper strip looks new and has no problems at all. Oh by the way. I buy only Weston bags and I get the ones that are not smooth on both sides. I find the bags seal better if I put the checkered side down on the strip.
I read the manual and waited the 20 sec minimum in-between each sealing. Out of 50 bags I had one not seal. I use one gallon bags. Sometimes I can cut the bag in half and get two bags out of it. This unit does a great job of sucking the air out of the package. We did meat and slightly dried it off with a paper towel but there was some blood on it but not enough to get up to the seal. Spaghetti and Indian butter chicken I froze in regular plastic food bags that were not freezer and then the next day I took the frozen food out and used this sealer on it. Worked great. So much better than my prior 125 dollar seal a meal. P.S. If you vacuum pork chops with the bone you might want to double vac pac it. We had a couple that the machine drew down the air so well that the bone actually poked through the bag while we were shuffling meat around in the freezer.
D. Schuette : Great vacuum sealer & last for years.
This is our 2nd Weston Pro-2300 Commercial Grade Stainless Steel Vacuum Sealer (65-0201), Double Piston Pump and the 1st one lasted for 8 years or more. We raised pigs, and made German Sausage for our family. Sometimes we would make 800 pounds in one weekend. This sealer made the process so much simpler and more efficient. The cheaper brands would maybe last 1 year and then you buy another. This costs more, but you will save more in the long run. We called customer service and they helped us with a part for the older one. It worked well for a while, but with the amount of sausage that we and our family makes, we decided to purchase a new one. We are so glad that we did. It's worth every penny.
Justhonest5 : Pretty general idea
Recently got this product and be using it nonstop, have already like 70 bags of food packages.
I see a lot of reviews on the strip burning, but we'll see when that happened, some suction issues. Some of it can be related to the holes being covered up. Bringing the suction time to like 3 min and having to press seal.
I did get the ugly rattle noise after like 20 uses but that turned out to be the back racket where the cord was(tighten it up). You don't need need to press down so hard when starting the suction, just close the lid and press down a bit or not at all.(your preference)
Working non stop with this machine is easy, after each seal you can just pop another one in and seal again with just 20-45 second depending on how much is put in.
I might have to order like an extra fuse, some more stripes and seals.
If the machine just stops working I'll make sure to edit my review.
