Questions about Hunsaker Smokers Griddle Plate for 22" Kettle Grill
Q:
Will this fit charbroil kettleman?
Q:
Do you season both sides?
Answer: We recommend seasoning both sides to help prevent rust.
Answer: I seasoned both sides on the first use, and then I just keep the top cleaned and oily.
Answer: you can, or season one side & just keep the other side oiled before putting it away.
Q:
Does this sit right on the cooking grate or does it utilize the tabs in the kettle?
Answer: It sits on the tabs of the kettle. (The handles of the cooking grate get in the way.)
Answer: This sets on the grate tabs with the cooking grate removed from your kettle
Answer: it utilizes the tabs that hold the grill grate
Answer: The griddle plate is designed to use the tabs in the kettle.
Answer: Sits in the tabs
Q:
Can you use metal utensils on it?
Answer: Yes
Q:
11 Gauge is equivalent to how much in inches ??? 1/4 in. ?
Answer: 11 gage is roughly 1/8" thick. We found that this is the best thickness for heating quickly and for not warping.
Q:
Is this carbon steel?
Answer: Yes this is made out of carbon steel. It needs to be seasoned with cooking oil before use.
Q:
What is best way to season it?
Answer: We recommend cleaning the griddle plate with dish soap and warm water to remove manufacturing oils. After cleaning, lightly spray all side of metal with cooking oil (vegetable, flax seed oil). Excessive oils should be wiped off to prevent making the plate sticky. Heat plate in oven or grill at around 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. Cooking bacon or a fatty food on the first cook will also help season the metal. The plate should be sprayed with cooking oil before storage. Thank you.
Answer: Wash with soap and water. Dry at a medium heat. Smear bacon grease on both sides and increase heat till your fire dies out. That’s what I did no problems
Q:
Will this fit 22.5” weber kettle?
Answer: Yes, this griddle plate is designed to fit into the Weber Kettle 22".
Answer: Yes, it fits the 22.5" weber.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:

Answer: The shipping weight is 12 pounds.
Answer: 11.2 lbs. is what my tracking said.
Q:
Do you have a way for me to contact you? I was wondering if you could custom make me this same griddle with 1/4 in. Steel for double the price of 1/4?
Answer: Contact hunsaker through their website
Q:
How do you store the griddle insert? Does it rust? Have anybody used this griddle with a slow n sear??
Answer: I clean the hot griddle by pouring water on it and scraping it while hot. Then I just let it sit on the Weber between uses. It would rust if it got wet.
Q:
This seems to be targeted towards the weber kettle, I've got a rec tec bullseye that's 22" diameter as well... think it'll work?
Answer: I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. 22 inch diameter is 22 inch diameter no matter what grill you have.
Answer: Yes it should fit. It’s the same diameter as the original Weber 22inch grill grate it comes with. It’s a really nice griddle for the price
Q:
Is this cold rolled steel?
Answer: Yes. It's 11gauge cold rolled steel.
Q:
How do I keep rust free? What if there’s rust how do I remove best way ?
Answer: To keep it rust free polish of its surfaces with an oil or fat (I use grapeseed oil) before using and after cleaning from use before storage. Also if you can, try not to wash in soapy water. If you have to just put on the hot grill right after to dry quickly and then apply oil.
Answer: Just keep a thick coat of oil on it for protection. Once you heat it up and apply some more oil, the rust will dissipate.
Q:
How do you clean this? After cooking bacon, burgers, etc. How do you get all that grease and food particles clean?
Answer: While the griddle is still hot use a flat scraper and losses as much grease and particles as possible, coat with cooking oil and scrape again and wipe with paper towels. Finish up with thin coat of cooking spray.
Q:
Will this fit in my Weber by itself or do I have to lay it across the grate?
Answer: The Hunsacker griddle for the 22.5" Weber Kettle will not work if placing on the grill grate. It fits perfectly with the grill grate removed.
Answer: It fits perfectly in the 22inch weber and it will store over the grate handle holes
Answer: It fits in the Weber, not on the grate. (The handles on the grate won't let it sit...)
Answer: Remove the grate. Fits a 22” Weber perfectly.
Answer: it is made for the 22, no grate needed. fold some foil under the holes to catch grease.
Answer: Dont need the grate, the Hunsaker griddle fits into the webber kettle.
Answer: You'll take the grate out. It sits perfectly on the tabs that hold the grate.
Answer: It will rest on the bolts where the grate would rest.
Answer: by itself; it replaces the grate.
Answer: By itself on the tads ... it’s great
Q:
I need one for my 26" weber. You think you could make that happen?
Answer: "The Burn Shop" will make anything you want. griddle or Custom Grates.
Q:
Anyone have any issues with the tabs bending when smashing burgers?
Answer: No I havent.
Q:
Is this good for blocking heat for indirect smoking?
Answer: This would work similar to the heat deflector in the Weber Summit and other kamado BBQ setups. However you still would need to raise whatever your indirect cooking or smoking so you would need to put a grill grate or cooling rack on top before cooking or you create a direct cooking surface.
Answer: No, you don’t need to block heat to smoke indirect. You want to just put your coals all to one side or for longer smokes do the snake method.
Answer: No. It is a griddle.
Q:
Mine bowed within minutes of being put on the grill with lump coal in baskets centered up. Is this normal?
Answer: Off course it will bow from heat and goes back to flat again
Q:
Does the griddle warp?
Answer: No. That would require some serious heat to make that happen. The griddle is fairly thick, and heavier than I expected.
Answer: Ive been cooking on mine for a year and haven't experienced any warping.
Answer: It does bow a little under high heat, but returns to normal as it cools.
Q:
what is the over all diameter of the disc?
Answer: 22inches
Q:
Where is the best place to store the griddle after use?
Answer: I'd suggest somewhere relatively dry with relatively low humidity. Also, make sure there is a very lite fresh coat of oil/seasoning to help prevent rusting.
Answer: I oil spray it with non stick oil after done and leave it inside the barbecue so no rust can get to it
Q:
Will this fit on the chargriller akorn?
Answer: it is 21.5 inches across.
Q:
How long should it last me ?
Answer: With proper seasoning and maintenance it should last many years.
Q:
Is carbon steel safe to cook on?
Answer: Yes. Keep it seasoned.
Q:
What is the exact diameter of this griddle?
Answer: 21.5" same as Weber grate
Q:
How do you handle grease while cooking? I’m imagining cooking bacon and burgers and having all of the grease pool with nowhere to put it.
Answer: The grease don't really pool in the middle. You can always put a piece of foil shaped like a bowl under the hole for the handle and push the grease there. I use mine very often and never had major grease problems.
Answer: I use a spatula to move the grease through the holes that serve as handles.
Answer: i USE A FOIL PAN UNDER THE HANDLE HOLES. IF YOU HAVE CHARCOAL BASKETS, YOU CAN LINE THEM WITH FOIL TO DO THE SAME THING.
Product reviews of Hunsaker Smokers Griddle Plate for 22" Kettle Grill
Stealyerface : If you own a 22” Weber Kettle, you need to buy this accessory.
If you own a Weber Kettle, and have been on the fence about getting a flat-top, maybe a Blackstone, etc…. Spend $50 and grab one of these before the word gets out. Half a charcoal chimney full of briquettes, twelve minutes of chimney time, put the briquettes on one held of the charcoal grate, single-layer, and start your grilling adventures. Highly recommended, the best Philly Cheese Steaks you’ll ever make, and by far, the best accessory for my Weber Kettle I have ever purchased.
Kenny Roumillat : Love it!
Smash burgers and hash browns! Going to make Philly cheesesteaks today with the left over Prime Rib. Griddle works like a champ!
Kevin S. Latchaw : Great griddle, especially for the price!
Fantastic product. I had been eyeing up a Blackstone for awhile, but they're hard to get at a reasonable price right now. I found this and could not be happier. I seasoned it last night as per the included instructions (with a little bit of Crisbee Cream). Fired it up this morning and cooked the family a big breakfast. Zero sticking problems. I did not experience any warping issues as some people have mentioned, but I followed the instructions and only used about a half chimney of charcoal. I also avoided any flare up issues by placing a foil pan under each hole. Everything cooked great, and cleanup was simple. This thing is a steal at $50!
jennifer F. : Smash burger time! useing my Weber kettle
I absolutely love it, it fits my weber kettle grill perfectly. The surface is nice and smooth so flipping eggs is no problem, but strong enough to make smash burgers. I am so happy I found this product before I went out to buy a expensive gas griddle.
Eric : Must have
Awesome alternative to a griddle. Iv made smash burgers, quesadillas, and stir fry all turned out amazing
Kindle Customer : Amazing
The griddle is awesome. I have made breakfast on the griddle a few times. I'm look forward to cooking on it more raisins summer. It opens up the Weber kettle for so many options.
Amazon Customer : Makes amazing burgers
Great product! I love it!
A. Casey : Where has this been all my life!!
So this thing is amazing. I have a charcoal Weber 22” kettle grill. I read all the reviews so I had zero issues. I seasoned it twice at 600 degrees twice. I used some Red Oak natural charcoal which burns very hot. I seasoned both sides with basic spray vegetable oil liberally applied.
The next day I cooked 1 lb of bacon before cooking the smash burgers. I placed some small meatloaf tins under the drainage holes. Worked fine catching all of the bacon grease which was running like water on the 600’ surface. Took about 5 min to cook 1 lb.
Next I cooked 9 3-4 ounce smash burgers and the grill was amazing. It did not warp at all or bend when I pressed the burgers. I grilled some raw onions before pressing the patties. I put the grilled onions on the raw side of each burger before I flipped them. Took about 2 min per side. Added cheese and toasted the buns before adding the burgers to the toasted buns. The flavor was amazing.
Highly recommend!
Bryan : Factory Rust
I wanted to love this thing, as everyone raved about it. I waiting about a week to start the seasoning process, and it had rust spots everywhere (never took the plastic wrap off either). I tried cleaning it with soap and water, vinegar, steel wool etc. but the pits were too deep. It went straight in the trash, cause the hassle to try and return the thing would have been too much. Very disappointed! Should have been better oiled from the manufacturer.
Corea : Weber necessity
Exactly as described. Easy instructions on how to cure, cook & clean. Highly recommended
Ronald neisler : Easy to use
Love it
carol edwards : Great quality great value
Great quality
Krissi T. : Great for breakfast
Great for cooking breakfast on the grill! Also nice for smash burgers. Think and good quality. Nice addition to the grilling accessories. A bit heavy and awkward when cleaning.
Hokie Fan : Great quality
Exact fit and good quality. Be sure to clean and season before the first use. Make sure you have a good set of gloves to remove to install and remove the plate when hot.
TD : Nice product
Thick steel, hasnt warped or rusted after several uses. It can be messy with burgers and bacon while using with a Weber Kettle
CHICKEN MASTAH : drip pan
the griddle is awesome! Although, I wish it had a drip Pan for the grease
Ron S. : Sear-ly you'll want one of these...
Sears steak perfectly. I use it as a finishing tool after pulling meat from my smoker.

Mark : As advertised but rusts extremely quickly
Works fairly well as soon as it is fully heated. MAKE SURE you have a full grill cover. This thing rusts fast. Any water dripping through the vent will cause rust which is a pain to get off.
Paul Mitrano : Should've listened to my expectations
So firstly, this is a solid, well made item. But... it's simply a piece of mild steel. I regret not making my own from scrap metal.
The plate had mill scale on it (not something anyone will ingest and no, it won't burn off) and I quickly wire wheeled that off and seasoned the plate per the directions. Under temp, the plate warps and bows up in the center making eggs slide to the edges, etc. Forget about adding coals in mid grill... it's difficult to pull the hot plate out to add more coals. Smoke escapes under the lid due to insufficient drafting.
The good: awesome smash burgers and hash. I only use it when I have too. I might cut it in half to make it manageable.
R. Solene : A Must-Have Tool For Your Grill
My wife told me about this Hunsaker Griddle Plate when I was considering purchasing one of those expensive gas-operated griddles for those occasions when I cook up smash burgers or want to cook up breakfast for a family gathering. For the price, I thought it wouldn't hurt to try before spending a few hundred dollars for one of the expensive griddles I was looking to buy. When this arrived I was immediately impressed with its stout construction. Performing the first-clean and seasoning it was a breeze. But where this griddle really shined was on my Weber Kettle. I was absolutely amazed at how this cooks up smash burgers, eggs, bacon, pancakes, veggies, etc. Just as good as a professional griddle top. A truly amazing product, and the price is even more amazing - I'm thinking of purchasing a second one for my other kettle grill for when I have a really large gathering at my house. Also, the company's customer support is top-notch. I had some questions re maintenance and they responded promptly.

Brian : Great value and great result
I liked that I’m able to use my Weber kettle with it and get the nice flavor since the smoke comes up from the handles. The only thing is that you have to be careful that the food doesn’t go down the holes. Great product.

Ticklemecisco : Best value for 22 inch griddle plate
This griddle plate is used with my Weber 22" kettle to make smash burgers and large amounts of fajita meat. There are a few of these on the market and this is the least expensive one by far. This is a big plate of carbon steel so you don't really have to be careful with it which I like. On my grill this gets crazy hot and produces very tasty meat with a nice browned exterior. One tip I will give is to add cold meat a little at a time. The first time I used this I dropped four pounds of cold chicken on it and the griddle plate immediately warped. I was worried that I had permanently warped my griddle plate but it flattened back out after a little while. Also, this is really easy to clean. When I am done cooking I just scrape the surface with a spatula and wipe it down once it has cooled. Highly recommend.
Update: So after using this plate a few times, the plate stopped warping. I guess the metal hardened after several heating/cooling cycles. Really enjoy using this product.
John Schaffert : Very good product for the price
This griddle plate was everything I wanted it to be. Especially for the price. It allows me to use my Weber charcoal grill as a griddle. Small pieces of chicken, shrimp, fried rice, bacon, sausage...all come out great. The review of people saying it warp, or has hot and cold spots; STOP PUTTING THIS ON TOP OF YOUR WIRE GRILL RACK! This sits right on the tabs of your grill. It does take about three rounds to get seasoned properly. It is plenty thick. I only have two real "issues" with it, if you can call them issues. #1 - The laser cut holes have SHARP edges! And due to it being heavy, it can and will slice your fingers open! You have to wear leather or heavy gloves when handling it. I need to take a metal file to mine. #2 - This is a big, heavy piece of metal. I haven't found a good storage option for it when I am using the charcoal grill and not using the griddle plate. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Ronald Strawser : Best grill accessory
This thing is an absolute game changer makes your grill able to cook just about anything and its very heavy duty
Paul Mitrano : Should've listened to my expectations

Jason Druckenmiller : Summer or Winter, I'm using this thing year round
This thing has upgraded so many of my dishes that I used to cook indoors in a frying pan. Winter be damned, if I'm making an omelette I'll be breaking out the weber and this plate and cooking them with this, it really is so much better.
