Questions about Homdox Food Dehydrator Machine with Digital Timer and Temperature Control, 8 Trays Dehydrators for Food and Jerky, Meat, Fruit, Vegetable, Herbs, BPA Free/400 Watt/Updated
Q:
What is the average time for dehydrating foods? And can it over heat causing a fire?
Answer: Average dehydrating time varies by food and local humidity. Something like figs in the desert takes about 18 hours but say in Kentucky in the summer would take about 36 hours. There's usually a broad window the guide gives you that gives with the product.
Answer: Time depends on what you are drying and how thick it is cut. You can just check it till you get familiar with the process. Some things like to be turned too. It just takes practice. I don't believe it can over heat and start a fire. It's not very hot! Have fun!
Q:
Does this make a lot of noise?
Answer: Really fairly quiet. I've only dehydrated vegetables in it so far. It did a great job
Q:
Where can i get replacement trays, i dont see anywhere on the web or Amazon to buy them?
Answer: Within the sellers comments I saw that if ypu want replacement trays you contact them directly
Answer: I have not seen them either, I wish I could purchase them too.
Q:
What is the Maximum temperature setting?
Answer: 165 I think. You don't want to go over 135 for most stuff.
Answer: 158F
Q:
How long does it take to dehydrate leaf?
Answer: 4 to 8 hours on size of the leaves
Answer: No idea. I have not even tried to use it. The instructions were unintelligible and I haven’t messed with it.
Q:
temperature for chicken?
Answer: IF you are asking about uncooked (raw) chicken, it must be at least 160 degrees F. You can use a convection oven but safely dehydrating raw poultry can be hazardous unless the drying temperatures are sufficiently high and the dehydrated product is properly and safely vacuum sealed packets. BE CAREFUL and do not be in a hurry because it can be risky!
Q:
Can you buy exra trays
Answer: I don't know, but it comes with loads of trays.
Q:
What are the dimensions of the trays?
Answer: Approximately 12” x 10”
Q:
Is this quiet? 8 have had so many that i had to return cuz they arent!
Answer: It is not real quiet, and it does not have enough wattage to dry things quickly. If I had known I would have chosen a different model. This is unsatisfactory in my opinion.
Q:
Can this ship internationally?
Answer: No idea
Q:
Where will this ship from
Answer: I don't know if it is carried by a company here in the US but it is made in China. It is a good product.
Q:
How high can the trays be stacked???? So you can do more in less time, or is that possible ?
Answer: I would not do more trays. The bottom tray dry faster so you have to rotate the tray or should rotate them if there is any density to your loading them. Longer drying times means less production in the long run. I personally don't think it's worth adding trays to this arrangement.
Answer: I like mine. It has 8 trays and you can leave then unstacked or stacked. When you stack it lifts about 2" in between each rack. I fir a lot of herbs in it at a time. It works very well. Worth the money I think.
Answer: I have been using this for over a year and use all 8 trays most often when dehydrating. I rotate my trays for even dry times.
Answer: You can only stack as many trays as you have.
Q:
Is there a mesh screen available to dry herbs?
Answer: No
Q:
My fruit is turning black and still wet and not dry after 2 runs
Answer:

Answer: 110
Q:
What temperature do you use for beef jerky, for how long and she do you have to rotate the trays for Homdox food dehydrator
Answer: I use the highest temperature for about 4-6 hours depending on thickness of meat. I would recommend rotating the trays every two hours.
Answer: 140 degrees for 10 hours. Do not rotate
Answer: I don’t know, I’m sure it’s in the book. I got another dehydrator, this one didn’t have high enough wattage
Answer: Can’t help it quit working and cannot return.
Q:
where do i buy extra trays?
Answer: Amazon
Q:
This unit is much smaller than it appears online. Do you agree?
Answer: No
Q:
Can you purchase the inserts to make fruit rolls
Answer: I don't know. Have read in face book groups that some people use parchment paper - somehow.
Q:
Can it dehydrate nuts?
Answer: Yes. But do not purchase this item. It will not last for more than a few uses and customer service is non existence
Q:
What are the dimensions and weight of the package? I need the information to calculate overseas shipping.
Answer: Unfortunately, this unit lasted about 11 months before it quit working! I have since thrown it out. Even when I first got it, it took twice as long to dehydrate my produce as my previous Nesco unit.
Q:
Can the temp be turned off?
Answer: A temp is required to run the fan. It starts in the 90 degree range
Answer: No, the temperature of the machine can not be turned off while is working it on.
Answer: I don’t know. The instructions we got were unintelligible. We haven’t even tried to use it yet.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Can you add more trays or is 8 the maximum capacity?
Answer: The dehydrator is set up to easily stack as many or as few trays as you like.
Answer: 8 is the max
Q:
Is this UL listed?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Are the trays dishwasher safe?
Answer: Yes, I have washed the trays in the dishwasher, even on the bottom rack.
Answer: I don't use my dishwasher, so I don't know. I would think the trays would be okay on upper part, but I am just guessing on that.
Answer: Many, if not most, are. Most can be hand washed under warm soapy water and scrubbed with a brush, and then thoroughly rinsed. I do not use
Q:
Can this unit be used to make deer jerky
Answer: WHAT TEMPERATURE FOR JERKY ?
Answer: Sure
Q:
The unit is lighting up and letting me change settings but the air snd heat won’t run on. How do I troubleshoot thisnto figure out what’s going on?
Answer: Its in 30 min increments. Make sure you have it set long enough. Not sure if thats not it. Try manufacturer #.
Q:
does this come with a book/recipes?
Answer: Ours did not, but there are plenty of recipes online for using these machines. Its been doing great, and works wonderfully.
Answer: It comes with an instruction manual that gives pre-prep instructions, name of fruits and veggies, and the times. However, it does not include the temps. to set them at. I find online sites are more useful than the actual manual that is included. I hope this answers your question.
Q:
Can you buy and or add replacement trays?
Answer: Yes. Somewhere!?!?!?
Q:
does it have trays for doing shredded veggies?
Answer: You will be able to do shredded veggies in this. I would recommend silicone mesh mats. The veggies may stick to the trays. With the mats, they won't stick.
Q:
Where can I find liners for fruit leather ?
Answer: On amazon
Q:
How much does this unit weigh? Thanks
Answer: I don’t know how much it weighs, but it’s very light. Honestly this did not get used very long, you really need a 600 W dehydrator.
Answer: It's not heavy, it is a little awkward when fully assembled. But there is really no reason to move it once it's set up. We keep it in the box in our basement and bring it up as neeeded
Q:
I want to dehydrate milk. I need liner trays. Where do i order them or what can i use?
Answer: You can’t dehydrate milk as far as I know
Q:
Did anyone get an owners manual or instruction booklet with this unit, because mine has nothing?
Answer: Yes, mine came with a booklet which gave pretty good information concerning the unit, although it was incomplete regarding setting time and temperature. I had to figure that out by myself.
Answer: Yes I got a booklet that gave advice on what settings for what fruits, vegetables, & meats. The booklet was under the tray lid.
Answer: I believe I did get one, but the unit broke after a year and I threw everything away! Good luck!
Q:
What is the solid plastic tray that comes packaged with it? What I got from the instruction booklet that is was a juice tray for catching the juices.
Answer: If you are talking about the solid black tray at the bottom, it catches everything from crumbs to liquids. It lips upward at the center. I just tested it. It will hold almost 100ml of liquid without leaking into the heater.
Answer: Mine did not come with one of those, unless ur talking about the base…?
Q:
Where is this product made?
Answer: China. It is a Meykey product, and my box said China.
Answer: Your question is impossible to be answered accurately because the manufacturer is not

Answer: No, it does not come with recipes. Recipes are easy to find online though.
Answer: It is a Meykey product being sold by Homdox.
Q:
Is it normal for temp to only be set in increments of 9 degrees? The instructions say to let it run for an hour at 60 c/145f, but 145f isn’t an option

How well does it work with becon?
Answer: I highly doubt if it would do bacon.. would be a greasy mess. Try doing bacon in the oven on a rack in a pan so the grease drains
Q:
What is the biggest object you can fit in it (using it for 3d printing related stuff)?
Answer: the biggest item would be the depth of any one of the trays themselves. They are about 3/4 of an inch deep....and just roughly guessing they are 8 x 11 ...thats a guess, the specs should give the tray dimensions though. Hope this helps!
Q:

Q:
Can i set foot on a glass dish in the dehydrator so it doesn't have to touch plastic?
Answer: It depends on what air flow will get past the food being dried. I am not sure if that will allow the food to properly dry as it should. You can experiment, that is up to you.
Answer: I paid a lot of money for this and when I received it it did not work! They don't give you your $$$ back.
Answer: If it is thin, We generally use Parchment Paper.
Product reviews of Homdox Food Dehydrator Machine with Digital Timer and Temperature Control, 8 Trays Dehydrators for Food and Jerky, Meat, Fruit, Vegetable, Herbs, BPA Free/400 Watt/Updated
Diehardlegend1 : Dont waste your money as there is no customer service to speak to
Would have gave no stars had this only a few months used like 6 times and the motor stopped blowing out hot air homdox has no phone number and they refused to exchange under there warranty. Thankfully I purchased insurance and they are gonna refused me my money. Definitely will be purchasing a different brand
Sandra : No instructions!
No instruction, owners manual, nothing, just got to figure it out yourself. I have no idea what to do. There’s buttons and a touch board, but what am I supposed to do????
Tracey S : Good product
Bought this to make jerky for my dogs. The dogs now know what I'm doing and think it's going to come right out. Lol. I've had no complaints. Great product.
Holly Pierce : Don't be a Fry Baby
When It first arrived, I thought I'll start with potatoes. I used some gold potatoes I had at home for baking and cut them into identical sized French fries, soaked them in water for 30 minutes before air frying, sprayed the basket with cooking spray, placed the soaked potatoes in the air fryer and 22 minutes later had the best French fries I've tasted. Then, I decided to try some cheese sticks but I added a little salt, again sprayed the basket and cooked them, they also came out delicious. So far, I have enjoyed everything I've cooked in it.
Leanne B : Fantastic for camping meals
I couldn't be happier with this. I must have used it daily for almost 3 weeks. I moved the trays around every 2-3 hours to help with heat distribution, and for really watery things like pineapple I also moved the pineapple pieces themselves after about 8 hours. But by and large, it's a set it and forget it kind of appliance. I have made a bunch of trail mixes and just-add-water meals and they turned out just like I wanted! Heat is adjustable, there's a timer, it's just generally easy and does its job well. I haven't had a single thing stick to the trays in a way that didn't come off with a light scrub with a sponge and dish soap. Absolutely recommend.
Samantha : Don’t buy if you have not previously owned a dehydrator.
The instructions were written by a non-English writing person (computer?). They even misspelled the product name in the booklet. Instructions don’t tell you if you have to use all the shelves or explain use of the control panel. Do not buy if you don't have the time or want to incur the expense of hit and miss attempts at dehydrating.

Kelly B : Instructions manual
It's smaller then what I was thinking. The fan motor is not very loud. The only thing is the instructions for use kept telling me to turn thr dial for temperature...there is no dial. I played with the buttons for a short while and figured it out. All in all I would recommend it.
Kirt : Great product
Works like a champ and easy to clean!
Paul & Tilda : Ok
Still playing with it at this time when you dry something it takes longer than what the times say for normal most stuff twice as long but still learning not sure yet if I am ready to try meat in it yet because I did fruit and it takes twice the time
William Balch : Great purchase
Bought this for my son to make jerky in. He loves it sets up and away it goes great jerky when its done
Awesome that it has a timer as well!!
Ginny D. : What can I dehydrate next??!!??
I like the shape of this unit. It does exactly what it is advertised to do! Love the digital read out. Love the instant off timer. Did blue berries and watermelon yesterday... Yum!
Shamika.C : I totally recommend
The best for my needs of drying my sea moss to make sea moss pills and great for my fruits and veggies.
Luke Gluchman : Awesome
Works awesome
Sharon : No Directions
Looks like a nice dehydrator but no Directions come with it so I'm sending it back because now I believe it is a used product and I don't want something else others have used.
Howard Novak : Dies quickly.
I loved this machine, unfortunately it died after about 2 months. It just stopped providing heat. Before that though it was easy to use, easy to clean, and had good settings on it.
Colby R. Curtis : Almost a great unit.
Everything about this is great except one thing. The heat element is weak. Don’t go by the temperature reading or it will take days to dehydrate anything. Just max the temp and it will still take longer than your cheap Nesco from Walmart but it will eventually get the job done. Other than that it holds a lot for its size the trays are very nice and it looks good. It doesn’t make much noise but that is probably why it takes so long.
Ginny D. : What can I dehydrate next??!!??

Terry S. : Buyer beware!
Bought this for my husband for Valentine's day. As of February 29th, it no longer worked.
We were going to return it but my husband was in the middle of dehydrating jerky when it stopped working and thought it would be okay to put in our oven on dehydrator setting since it was the same temperature as the dehydrator. Unfortunately he left the jerky on the trays from the dehydrator and 2 of them melted so we are unable to return.
Sarah Laski : I love it.
I love it. Maybe after I've used it awhile, I might change my mind. But so far, so good.
Alysia : Really small shelves
The unit is quiet so I will give it points for that and the timer set up is great, but the shelves are really short - barely a half inch space to put anything on it. I put my first round of fruit to dry in the unit the day after I bought it but ended up having to re-cut all of the chunky fruit to make them fit on the shelves, even the strawberries which I would normally just cut in half I had to slice even further to fit. The other issue is that the manual gives an example of the temp and time for various fruits/veges/jerky etc. to use as a guide for the unit, knowing that I cut them a little thick I assumed that I would need to extend the times, but so far I am at quadruple the time to get the first round done - I am definitely rethinking this purchase.
Jc : Works great
Tons of space. Rotate half through. Works perfect.
Janice : never used sent back
it was smaller then I thought.
Jonathan Bowen : Only worked 1 time!
Used it once and now it will no longer turn on the fan or heating element no matter what settings I change. Tried unplugging it for a while hoping that would reset it. No change, still won’t run the fan or heating element. On the bright side Amazon was very good to issue a refund.
Amazon Customer : heating
It doesn't heat correctly. Always having to cook 10-12 hr longer than recipe calls for. Frustrating, I have the box, would like to return it, sure it's something to do with the heating element, otherwise it fits nicely where I needed it to.
Ellen M. Buchholz : New dehydrator
We got this on 3/26/21 so it’s only been used once. Since we are beginners it seemed to work well.
Naomi : Make sure
Product was really good and then mine stopped working. I obly had the dehydrator a lil iver mobth and a hlaf and it stopped blowing at 158 degrees and only came out cold. It might have just been a bad one because until then it worked great. My foid tasted good so.
LT : Stopped working and no support!
We got this a few months ago. Used it a handful of times and it worked great! Made beef, venison and chicken jerky! Got it out yesterday and it started smoking and smelling like something is burning. The white top that covers the fan/motor also looks like it has melted and warped. The fan and motor are no longer working! I tried to contact the company and have gotten emails back saying the email doesn't exist. Amazon can't help me because we are past the 'return by' date. Frustrated with customer service - they don't stand behind their product! DON'T BUY!
Margie B : A quality dehydrator at a great price
A great dehydrator with easy to clean trays. For crispy fruit chips, you do need to set temp 5-10 degrees higher and 4-5 hours longer and rotate 4 trays from top to bottom halfway through the process.
Tyler K : Great dehydrator with plenty of room
This dehydrator works like a charm. You can enable a timer and leave your food to dehydrate without constantly checking on it. The only problem I have is that the power cord is quite short but other than that I have no complaints.
D. Cranmer : Unsure about this
I would really love this machine if it gave any instructions at all as to how long and what temp to dehydrate various foods. There is some info in the book, but the ranges for almost everything, without temps mentioned, is 4 - 10 hours. Um, you're going to need to pinpoint that a little better. I do like how quiet it is though.
Isa : Great value for the money!!!
Easy to clean, dries fruits and herbs very fast and it is also very compact.
Jc : Works great
Tons of space. Rotate half through. Works perfect.

jlw : Chicken jerky for the dogs
I bought this to make jerky for our dogs they absolutely love it. I have been trying to find out if the trays are dishwasher safe to no avail. So I have them on the top shelve of the dishwasher right now I hope I don't smell plastic burning. To cook chicken I put it at the highest temp which is 158 for 12 hours. I put it in the garage so we don't have any heat or smell. I come into the house with it in the morning the dogs don't leave me alone until I give them some. this is a great dehydrator for them. I haven't used it for anything else. If anyone has tried using the dishwasher would love to hear.
Candace : One of the best upgrades I’ve made!
I purchased this as an upgrade to my first dehydrator and I’m kicking myself for not upgrading sooner. I looked and looked read reviews and finally just did it! For all those negative reviews on this little gem I say bah! Either they just used it without reading it or they just want to complain but this dehydrator couldn’t be simpler to use and the end result is better than I had with my Cuisinart! Hands down one of the best dehydrators I’ve used. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to preserve their harvest or wanting to stretch their dollar!
Denise : Dehydrator
Several layers for different kinds of food. Works well and easy clean.
Denice Bronson : Works great
Make safe dog treats out of real beef and chicken only. No fillers or chemicals. They love it,
Simple to use easy to hand wash.
William Balch : Great purchase

Kris L Customer : Terrible
It was OK for a while did great the first few times we used it and now that we can’t return it it quit working the warmer quit working and the fan is still going but the warmer doesn’t work so now it’s useless
Sharon : No Directions

Jo Lilley : Don't waste your money
I bought the product 10 months ago. I used it a lot and Loved it. However the heating element has gone out and it's less than a year old. Apparently this is a common issue. I failed to read negative reviews, or I'd have bought a different brand. There is no replacement element and NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. It would be better to use your money on another product that offers a warranty and guarantees customer service.
Jason Daniels : Great buy, minor request
Good machine, great buy! The only issue I have with this product is the preset temperatures. For example, the preset temperature of the machine is 158°, where recipes call for 160°. Full control of the temperature would be my only request for a better product.
Kimw : Looks really nice but limited instructions and no cookbook basics
So far I like the machine. Seems to work well. One thing that’s lacking is instructions booklet. There are multiple times and temperatures but does not provide the complete instructions on cooking anything. Most of my times and temps have come from online searches. Trays do need to be rotated for best results on all trays. Not sure if I will keep this yet as not very user friendly instructions. Waiting on jerky now. Results may determine the outcome.
0utd00r Wand3r3r : Does it even work?
I filled it up and started it first tome on default settings for 12 hours, nothing was dry. Tried it again on max heat 158°f for 20 hours. And again nothing is dry. Tried other with assorted things such as carrots, onions, peppers, potatoes, corn, lettuce, and more. Maybe defective, maybe it just sucks. But it holds a lot.
