Questions about Homdox Food Dehydrator Machine with Digital Timer and Temperature Control, 8 Trays Dehydrators for Food and Jerky, Meat, Fruit, Vegetable, Herbs, BPA Free/400 Watt/Updated
Q:
What is the average time for dehydrating foods? And can it over heat causing a fire?
Answer: Average dehydrating time varies by food and local humidity. Something like figs in the desert takes about 18 hours but say in Kentucky in the summer would take about 36 hours. There's usually a broad window the guide gives you that gives with the product.
Answer: Time depends on what you are drying and how thick it is cut. You can just check it till you get familiar with the process. Some things like to be turned too. It just takes practice. I don't believe it can over heat and start a fire. It's not very hot! Have fun!
Q:
Does this make a lot of noise?
Answer: Really fairly quiet. I've only dehydrated vegetables in it so far. It did a great job
Q:
Where can i get replacement trays, i dont see anywhere on the web or Amazon to buy them?
Answer: Within the sellers comments I saw that if ypu want replacement trays you contact them directly
Answer: I have not seen them either, I wish I could purchase them too.
Q:
What is the Maximum temperature setting?
Answer: 165 I think. You don't want to go over 135 for most stuff.
Answer: 158F
Q:
How long does it take to dehydrate leaf?
Answer: 4 to 8 hours on size of the leaves
Answer: No idea. I have not even tried to use it. The instructions were unintelligible and I haven’t messed with it.
Q:
temperature for chicken?
Answer: IF you are asking about uncooked (raw) chicken, it must be at least 160 degrees F. You can use a convection oven but safely dehydrating raw poultry can be hazardous unless the drying temperatures are sufficiently high and the dehydrated product is properly and safely vacuum sealed packets. BE CAREFUL and do not be in a hurry because it can be risky!
Q:
Can you buy exra trays
Answer: I don't know, but it comes with loads of trays.
Q:
What are the dimensions of the trays?
Answer: Approximately 12” x 10”
Q:
Is this quiet? 8 have had so many that i had to return cuz they arent!
Answer: It is not real quiet, and it does not have enough wattage to dry things quickly. If I had known I would have chosen a different model. This is unsatisfactory in my opinion.
Q:
Can this ship internationally?
Answer: No idea
Q:
Where will this ship from
Answer: I don't know if it is carried by a company here in the US but it is made in China. It is a good product.
Q:
How high can the trays be stacked???? So you can do more in less time, or is that possible ?
Answer: I would not do more trays. The bottom tray dry faster so you have to rotate the tray or should rotate them if there is any density to your loading them. Longer drying times means less production in the long run. I personally don't think it's worth adding trays to this arrangement.
Answer: I like mine. It has 8 trays and you can leave then unstacked or stacked. When you stack it lifts about 2" in between each rack. I fir a lot of herbs in it at a time. It works very well. Worth the money I think.
Answer: I have been using this for over a year and use all 8 trays most often when dehydrating. I rotate my trays for even dry times.
Answer: You can only stack as many trays as you have.
Q:
Is there a mesh screen available to dry herbs?
Answer: No
Q:
My fruit is turning black and still wet and not dry after 2 runs
Answer:
Answer:
Q:
Is this machine 110 or 240 volts
Answer: 110
Q:
What temperature do you use for beef jerky, for how long and she do you have to rotate the trays for Homdox food dehydrator
Answer: I use the highest temperature for about 4-6 hours depending on thickness of meat. I would recommend rotating the trays every two hours.
Answer: 140 degrees for 10 hours. Do not rotate
Answer: I don’t know, I’m sure it’s in the book. I got another dehydrator, this one didn’t have high enough wattage
Answer: Can’t help it quit working and cannot return.
Q:
where do i buy extra trays?
Answer: Amazon
Q:
This unit is much smaller than it appears online. Do you agree?
Answer: No
Q:
Can you purchase the inserts to make fruit rolls
Answer: I don't know. Have read in face book groups that some people use parchment paper - somehow.
Q:
Can it dehydrate nuts?
Answer: Yes. But do not purchase this item. It will not last for more than a few uses and customer service is non existence
Q:
What are the dimensions and weight of the package? I need the information to calculate overseas shipping.
Answer: Unfortunately, this unit lasted about 11 months before it quit working! I have since thrown it out. Even when I first got it, it took twice as long to dehydrate my produce as my previous Nesco unit.
Q:
Can the temp be turned off?
Answer: A temp is required to run the fan. It starts in the 90 degree range
Answer: No, the temperature of the machine can not be turned off while is working it on.
Answer: I don’t know. The instructions we got were unintelligible. We haven’t even tried to use it yet.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Can you add more trays or is 8 the maximum capacity?
Answer: The dehydrator is set up to easily stack as many or as few trays as you like.
Answer: 8 is the max
Q:
Is this UL listed?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Are the trays dishwasher safe?
Answer: Yes, I have washed the trays in the dishwasher, even on the bottom rack.
Answer: I don't use my dishwasher, so I don't know. I would think the trays would be okay on upper part, but I am just guessing on that.
Answer: Many, if not most, are. Most can be hand washed under warm soapy water and scrubbed with a brush, and then thoroughly rinsed. I do not use
Q:
Can this unit be used to make deer jerky
Answer: WHAT TEMPERATURE FOR JERKY ?
Answer: Sure
Q:
The unit is lighting up and letting me change settings but the air snd heat won’t run on. How do I troubleshoot thisnto figure out what’s going on?
Answer: Its in 30 min increments. Make sure you have it set long enough. Not sure if thats not it. Try manufacturer #.
Q:
does this come with a book/recipes?
Answer: Ours did not, but there are plenty of recipes online for using these machines. Its been doing great, and works wonderfully.
Answer: It comes with an instruction manual that gives pre-prep instructions, name of fruits and veggies, and the times. However, it does not include the temps. to set them at. I find online sites are more useful than the actual manual that is included. I hope this answers your question.
Q:
Can you buy and or add replacement trays?
Answer: Yes. Somewhere!?!?!?
Q:
does it have trays for doing shredded veggies?
Answer: You will be able to do shredded veggies in this. I would recommend silicone mesh mats. The veggies may stick to the trays. With the mats, they won't stick.
Q:
Where can I find liners for fruit leather ?
Answer: On amazon
Q:
How much does this unit weigh? Thanks
Answer: I don’t know how much it weighs, but it’s very light. Honestly this did not get used very long, you really need a 600 W dehydrator.
Answer: It's not heavy, it is a little awkward when fully assembled. But there is really no reason to move it once it's set up. We keep it in the box in our basement and bring it up as neeeded
Q:
I want to dehydrate milk. I need liner trays. Where do i order them or what can i use?
Answer: You can’t dehydrate milk as far as I know
Q:
Did anyone get an owners manual or instruction booklet with this unit, because mine has nothing?
Answer: Yes, mine came with a booklet which gave pretty good information concerning the unit, although it was incomplete regarding setting time and temperature. I had to figure that out by myself.
Answer: Yes I got a booklet that gave advice on what settings for what fruits, vegetables, & meats. The booklet was under the tray lid.
Answer: I believe I did get one, but the unit broke after a year and I threw everything away! Good luck!
Q:
What is the solid plastic tray that comes packaged with it? What I got from the instruction booklet that is was a juice tray for catching the juices.
Answer: If you are talking about the solid black tray at the bottom, it catches everything from crumbs to liquids. It lips upward at the center. I just tested it. It will hold almost 100ml of liquid without leaking into the heater.
Answer: Mine did not come with one of those, unless ur talking about the base…?
Q:
Where is this product made?
Answer: China. It is a Meykey product, and my box said China.
Answer: Your question is impossible to be answered accurately because the manufacturer is not
Q:
Can you do ice cream sandwiches?
Answer: I don’t know. It generates hot dry air. I personally don’t make ice cream sandwiches.
Answer: I think you need a freeze dryer for that
Q:
Does it come with a fruit leather tray?
Answer: No, all the trays are the same
Answer: They sell them separate
Answer: No
Q:
Does this Homdox unit come with recipes?
Answer: No, it does not come with recipes. Recipes are easy to find online though.
Answer: It is a Meykey product being sold by Homdox.
Q:
Is it normal for temp to only be set in increments of 9 degrees? The instructions say to let it run for an hour at 60 c/145f, but 145f isn’t an option
Answer: We never run it past 122, when it was new we ran it for 30 minutes.
Answer: I run it at 149F as that is the closest and it works great.
Q:
Can you dry sauces with this?
Answer: no just vegetables and fruit and meat
Q:
Does this come with a dehydrator recipe book for the machine
Answer: No recipe book.
Q:
Where do you get the fruit leather inserts??
Answer: i don't use such a thing
Q:
Are the trays deep enough to dry whole jalapeños peppers!
Answer: Yes, but the ones to which I have experience are
Q:
Do you have replacement parts? My heating element went out
Q:
How well does it work with becon?
Answer: I highly doubt if it would do bacon.. would be a greasy mess. Try doing bacon in the oven on a rack in a pan so the grease drains
Q:
What is the biggest object you can fit in it (using it for 3d printing related stuff)?
Answer: the biggest item would be the depth of any one of the trays themselves. They are about 3/4 of an inch deep....and just roughly guessing they are 8 x 11 ...thats a guess, the specs should give the tray dimensions though. Hope this helps!
Q:
If I only need to use 1 or 2 trays, can I put the extra trays in storage, or do I need to have all 8 trays stacked all the time for proper use?
Answer: I have used as little as two trays
Answer: Never worked for me
Q:
Can i set foot on a glass dish in the dehydrator so it doesn't have to touch plastic?
Answer: It depends on what air flow will get past the food being dried. I am not sure if that will allow the food to properly dry as it should. You can experiment, that is up to you.
Answer: I paid a lot of money for this and when I received it it did not work! They don't give you your $$$ back.
Answer: If it is thin, We generally use Parchment Paper.
Product reviews of Homdox Food Dehydrator Machine with Digital Timer and Temperature Control, 8 Trays Dehydrators for Food and Jerky, Meat, Fruit, Vegetable, Herbs, BPA Free/400 Watt/Updated
Kindle Customer : nice, easy to use
It has a nice shelf profile, compact and looks great on the cabinet. I have used it numerous time and found it pretty easy to use. Noise level is minimal.
Pros:
looks good, easy to use, dries all shelves within 6 hrs depending on the product. Easy to clean with some caveats. Very easy to program.
Cons:
Instructions lack english comprehension, you need to use online sources for tips. Cleaning can be problematic if you have a small sink. It may be dish washable which would help but I havent used that option. Stacking can be annoying as you have to lock them together, so will do lots of turning round the trays to get them right. Have to rotate trays during drying as the ones on top dont dry as fast.
Tips:
I use this alot for chicken jerky, learned to spray the trays with nonstick oil first saves cleanup time. rotate rotate rotate to ensure even quick drying. No idea why you would use lower temps to dry, even finely sliced zucchini strips dont burn on the highest temps, using low temps only adds to overall dry time. use a marker to indicate up/down on trays to eliminate some of the fudging around while you stack them. hand washing is easy but awkward due to the number of trays. unit holds 3 large chicken breasts, or 3 medium finely sliced zuccs for chips. you need silicon trays to make liquid stuff like fruit leather.
i recommend this unit for beginners and for hobbyists, would need a bigger more serious unit for large scale dehydration.
Tracey S : Good product
Bought this to make jerky for my dogs. The dogs now know what I'm doing and think it's going to come right out. Lol. I've had no complaints. Great product.
William Balch : Great purchase
Bought this for my son to make jerky in. He loves it sets up and away it goes great jerky when its done
Awesome that it has a timer as well!!
Paul & Tilda : Ok
Still playing with it at this time when you dry something it takes longer than what the times say for normal most stuff twice as long but still learning not sure yet if I am ready to try meat in it yet because I did fruit and it takes twice the time
American Patriot : Good for the price.
My first dehydrator. I have made a couple of batches of beef jerky and they both turned out good. Easy to use, seems to work well for the price. The highest it will reach is 160 though...
Sunshine : Quality product. Great jerky.
Its quiet and works efficiently. Use all 8 trays everytime to make my dogs chicken jerky. Love having a timer so it runs thru the nite. Our beef jerky turned out really good. So easy. Very happy with this so far.
Jason Daniels : Great buy, minor request
Good machine, great buy! The only issue I have with this product is the preset temperatures. For example, the preset temperature of the machine is 158°, where recipes call for 160°. Full control of the temperature would be my only request for a better product.
FrankMMIII : How Dry I am.
I wanted to post a video of it working and I still might do that on the tube. However, this thing works! I have already made two batches of beef jerky and dried a mandarin(little orange like a clementine). I used Alton Browns recipe for the jerky(it is delicious) and for the mandarin, I peeled it and then boiled the rind in a sugar water syrup allowing it to be coated and separated the slices and placed them in the dehydrator. You have to use your own judgement when drying different foods although there is a guide. The jerky is fairly easy. After you have marinated it overnight you lay it on the trays. Preferably have the trays on a towel, paper or cloth to soak up any excess marinade that drips and then stack the trays and turn the temp to the highest setting which is around 158 degrees for 6 -7 hours. Voila'
Sharon : No Directions
Looks like a nice dehydrator but no Directions come with it so I'm sending it back because now I believe it is a used product and I don't want something else others have used.
Marcy Strom : Love it!
Super easy to use! I’ve had a Norco dryer for years, but have misplaced it and was happy for the excuse to buy a new dryer! This has been running daily since it arrived! The trays are easy to clean, but the big holes made drying celery a “challenge”. I have purchased Teflon sheets to use since I prefer to dry smaller pieces for use in soups and such. I’m very happy with my purchase, I just wish it had come with a jelly roll sheet (or 8 since my kids love homemade fruit leather).
The auto-shutoff is my new favorite feature! I can set it to dry for 12-14 hours and when it’s done, it shuts off without me having to wake up in the middle of the night to check on it! By morning, everything is cooled down and ready to be packaged up when o get up in the morning.
Sarah Laski : I love it.
I love it. Maybe after I've used it awhile, I might change my mind. But so far, so good.
Ayleen's Attic : Efficient and easy to operate
I like this product. Very easy to use. Dehydrates vegetables well, which is what I usually use it for.
jean simmons : This thing is so small it could go in a Barbie playhouse.
Too small
Ayleen's Attic : Efficient and easy to operate
I like this product. Very easy to use. Dehydrates vegetables well, which is what I usually use it for.
Jeryl Davis : Easy cleaning dehydrator
This dehydrator is so easy to use and easy to clean. I made jerky and was so happy with the end results...a perfectly dried, flavorful jerky.
D. Cranmer : Unsure about this
I would really love this machine if it gave any instructions at all as to how long and what temp to dehydrate various foods. There is some info in the book, but the ranges for almost everything, without temps mentioned, is 4 - 10 hours. Um, you're going to need to pinpoint that a little better. I do like how quiet it is though.
Linda Novotasky : Love it!!
Bought for my daughter as a Christmas gift. We all couldn't wait to try it. It worked perfectly! Cleaned easily. Used it several times before they left for Florida. Im going to have to get one for myself!
nckober : Works great
Love it I used it twice now since I bought it , which was only a couple weeks ago. Easy to clean and easy to use.
Doug : This was a great purchase. I couldn't be more pleased
I just used the dehydrator to dry apple slices this weekend. The unit holds a lot of food and dries very nicely and evenly. Expect the same durability and dependability with this unit. Easy to clean and operate.
Bryan : Working very well
I purchased this specific machine in mind and it is the easiest, most efficient machine i came across. It allows the user to not have to worry about rotating trays top to bottom half way through the process because the fan evenly distributes the air throughout. It has adjustable temperature settings allowing to do jerky, fruit, etc. and not have to worry about something not being completely done which is especially important when dehydrating jerky.
SoCal Mar : Adequate dehydrator
It works as described but I recommend frequently rotating trays for even distribution of heat. It arrived with a crack on the corner of one tray but not worth or necessary to send back as it worked fine.
Sarah : Simple and Easy
I like this product. It has plenty of space for lots of cuttings. The shelves can sit in two ways to allow for little or more space for cuttings. It works as expected. My only issue is not having very well detailed instructions on temperature and timing for products and cutting sizes. Maybe have a website that can be looked at for more detailed instructions?
Potman : Great working.
This was a gift. Word is it makes good jerky’s. They love it.
reds : Dehydrated
Works very well hard to clean.
Tracey S : Good product
Bought this to make jerky for my dogs. The dogs now know what I'm doing and think it's going to come right out. Lol. I've had no complaints. Great product.

james yancey : Fantastic Dehydrator!
Easy to use. Versatile shelf arrangements. Multiple drying temps. Easy to clean.
Jc : Works great
Tons of space. Rotate half through. Works perfect.
L'Omar's Mom : Does exactly what it says!
This machine has made several batches of mouth-watering jerky for my family and they are clamoring for more! Good purchase. Easy to use and easy to clean.
Ellen M. Buchholz : New dehydrator
We got this on 3/26/21 so it’s only been used once. Since we are beginners it seemed to work well.
Joseph td : Do not buy. Support sucks
After only a few months and a few uses the fan went out. Been waiting over 5 days for customer support that said they would respond in 1 day.
This is a peice. Would not recommend

LittleSpender : Works As Advertised
Have been using this for months now without a problem. Easy to put fruit onto it and the time and heat settings are simple to use. Was worried about some negative reviews before I bought it, but have been very pleased with the product.
Paul & Tilda : Ok
Still playing with it at this time when you dry something it takes longer than what the times say for normal most stuff twice as long but still learning not sure yet if I am ready to try meat in it yet because I did fruit and it takes twice the time
Kimw : Looks really nice but limited instructions and no cookbook basics
So far I like the machine. Seems to work well. One thing that’s lacking is instructions booklet. There are multiple times and temperatures but does not provide the complete instructions on cooking anything. Most of my times and temps have come from online searches. Trays do need to be rotated for best results on all trays. Not sure if I will keep this yet as not very user friendly instructions. Waiting on jerky now. Results may determine the outcome.
Edith A. : Fun Gadget
Only had this a few days, but I can't stop shredding and slicing! Still have to play around with technique because my cucumber slices ended up lopsided. Clean-up is a breeze and sale price can't be beat.
Margie B : A quality dehydrator at a great price
A great dehydrator with easy to clean trays. For crispy fruit chips, you do need to set temp 5-10 degrees higher and 4-5 hours longer and rotate 4 trays from top to bottom halfway through the process.
Word From The 242 : Affordable and works
Affordable and it works for my intended use.
Kris L Customer : Terrible
It was OK for a while did great the first few times we used it and now that we can’t return it it quit working the warmer quit working and the fan is still going but the warmer doesn’t work so now it’s useless
reds : Dehydrated
Works very well hard to clean.
scott : It worked ok Until I the fan stopped and I smelled Burning Plastic. lasted 6 1/2 months 5 uses
This Dehydrator worked ok. little slow to dry and Uneven drying. I used it for fruits but mostly Ground beef Jerky.
I used it a total of 5 times. It took 11-12 hours to dry out 5 pound of Ground Beef. kind slow. but it worked...... until my last time i used it. I mixed up a 5 pound batch of ground beef, I loaded the trays up with my Jerky gun and turned it on and set the time and temp and it was running as it should. I went to the living room and after a few minutes I noticed I couldn't hear the fan. Went to check it out and the machine was humming and the fan was not working and I could smell burning plastic. I immediately turned the machine off. So basically the 5 pounds of meat was exposed to burning plastic and I could still smell it on the meat 20 minutes later. I had to throw the meat out. I didn't want to risk it. So I'm out the cost and time of preparing 5 pounds of meat and the cost of the dehydrator. 5 uses in 6 1/2 months and this thing just quits on you. I want my money back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this product.
Denice Bronson : Works great
Make safe dog treats out of real beef and chicken only. No fillers or chemicals. They love it,
Simple to use easy to hand wash.
Mickenzie Alan Nowicki : Great product!
I love the digital timer that shuts the unit off whenever you set it to shut off. I use mine primarily for making venison and beef jerky. I have gone through 4 in the last 5 years, and this one is by far the best and the least amount I have spent on one.
Paul & Tilda : Ok
Still playing with it at this time when you dry something it takes longer than what the times say for normal most stuff twice as long but still learning not sure yet if I am ready to try meat in it yet because I did fruit and it takes twice the time
Paulo Uhle : Not a very good unit does not dry equally
You have to keep rotating the trays.... everything on the bottom dries faster than the one above it... super annoying very dissatisfied with this product.
Alex Moll : Worked well the first few times
I have used this dehydrator a handful of times and it worked well at first but it has already stopped working. The air blows but there is no heat coming out so it doesn't actually dry out the jerky. Took me a few hours to realize this and had to finish using the oven. When it worked it was great, when it stopped it was just a useless appliance and a waste of money.
Greg Whaley : Does not warm up, blows cold air.
The air will not get hot at all. Used it for 16 hours. The air coming out was as cold as the room temp.
