WHEN will the new season of MLF start??? I'm asking about the Extended Cast online. I highly recommend spending the money and buy the season pass.

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

Did you check their website?  Looks like they posted the date/times on Dec 1st.

fishing user avatarProCrafter reply :

That is for the TV schedule... for Extended Cast they still have the 2013 listings and I have already seen the old shows.... gonna send them a message on they're Facebook page and see.

fishing user avatarGrantman83 reply :

I was wondering this as well.  I don't have outdoor channel and only have ever used the extended cast.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it.

I will say however, the smallmouth bass of northern Michigan did not disappoint ~

No kidding! It only took half the show for them to figure that out.....the leader was not somebody I would have though would be leading either. Can't wait for the extending cast to show up.

fishing user avatarsimplejoe reply :

They started catching them pretty good after the skies were clear. Idk if anybody else noticed that.

fishing user avatarbrgbassmaster reply :

Is anyone able to watch this online? Im on the site and don't see anything but i could be missing it.

fishing user avatarMegastink reply :

I'm dying to watch it. I was at my folks and they don't have the outdoor channel :-(

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Round 2 was impressive! Just got around to watching it. Healthy healthy lake they were on. Smallmouth factory!

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

Round 3 is even more impressive!  What an awesome place to fish!

you aren't kidding. That place is a fish factory. That increased my cabin fever by %100.

Some of these penalties are border line ridiculous. Just my opinion

New rule proposal ~

I'd love to see the MLF officials institute a new regulation where by a line test restriction was imposed.

There could be a few of different ways they could effect this, here a couple:

1.  In the last round, any measurable bass caught on say 4 lb.test (or lower) counts as Double weight.

That could be a way for competitors who are trailing to catch up.

2.  Or they could really make it interesting by imposing a line test restriction to the entire field during an entire period.  During this last event with the bite mostly in open water, this may have added even more drama and really tested the angler's fish fighting skills.

Thoughts ?

Or it would just be MLF featuring Aaron Martens.  :P

I like your ideas as a viewer. I'm sure the anglers would be cursing up a storm.  Especially someone like Ish who's throwing a frog or pitching slop any chance he can. I overly enjoyed this MLF on Hubbard because it wasn't a dock flipping shallow water beat down like most of these events have been.  Good to see off shore jerkbait and drop shotting.

I also think there are a few guys in MLF that should be swapped for better/more competitive talent. One being Velvick......I just don't understand...  Nothing wrong with the guy and he has history, but he is not on par with that playing field.  There are a couple others as well. just my .02

Thanks ~ As for the anglers not "Liking it" - clearly this sport is challenging enough.

As it stands now, this new and exciting MLF format has taken away the advanced knowledge of what water their on, taken away practice, sometimes limit where they can fish, added the stress of the "live Scoreboard", and put an Official in every boat and still guys are catching over 60 lbs of smallmouth bass !

So I say if MLF wants to really put the "best anglers in the sport" on display, lets kick it up a notch, again.

But in all fairness, I'd let them use a quality fish friendly net.  I'm getting so tired of watch these poor guys struggle to land the fish.  So the excitement / drama would be in the fighting of the fish on light line rather than watching the angler's struggle to safely land the fish without getting hooked and still following the rules.   Though they'd probably edit it out (if they haven't already), but sooner or later there will be a treble hook in someone, all captured in HD quality video.

I remember that one too.  But that was on the launch . . . . .

I was a little surprised, Kevin wasn't exactly apologetic.

Guess he figures the Camera man was getting too close.

That's one way to get yourself some casting space.

Man KVD killed em in round 3 setting the new record in weight!  It was funny he had like 10mins in penalties and it kind of looked like he was getting annoyed with the official. But what a performance!!! That's why he is considered the best

Yea, that 5 minute penalty was just dumb.  They can do away with that rule and you're right, he looked really annoyed.  If the running was any closer or he wasn't in the position he was in I bet he'd been even more steamed.

I also noticed that it appeared his official wasn't moving fast enough to get the scale for his liking. He was on a mission to say the least.

I noticed that too about the official. But when you are on top I know he secretly has a lot of haters that's just how it is. Wasn't that 5 min penalty for not having his life jacket fastened or something like that I mean come on man lol. Some rules they have are flat out ridiculous but that's their way of getting involved and having it a little more structured I guess.  I think the only penalty should be the fish landing penalty.  That one where he got a penalty cuz the fish jumped out his grip when releasing it was just dumb.

But man that was something to witness I haven't seen someone have em dialed in like that in a long time. Not only did he catch the most by far I believe he had the biggest fish too with a 5+ pounder if Im not mistaken

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

His 5 minute penalty was for undoing the life jacket before his engine was turned off from what I understood of it. If you watch FLW or BASS you'll notice when guys run to spots and are in a hurry, they will jump up and take off their jackets as they're coming off of plane kind of in the same fashion he did.  I think it's habit especially when running and gunning.  Heck, I've done it and I don't even fish competitively (except in my head, lol).  Just stupid penalty overall if you ask me.

fishing user avatarMichiganBass80 reply :

Just in case some haven't heard/read, they now have their new online extended cast basspass system up. They have the first three episodes of this new tourney up so far.

It's clearly KVD's to lose but the finals will be on a new lake so who knows.  Ehler, Martens and Hackney all looked very strong too.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

It's almost time.  Summit Cup Two-Hour Final Airs Today

According to MLF - todays show is a "one-time" only airing of 2 original hours for the championship.

Should be entertaining.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

I just finished watching it.  Although it was impressive and fun to watch, nothing was ever explained what he was doing different than the rest, other than running around alot in search of new schools of fish.  Seems way too simple of an explanation for the other pros to miss.

fishing user avatarSFL BassHunter reply :

I just bought the MLF Extended Cast online for 29 bucks! Excellent, exciting fishing!

fishing user avatarSMB101 reply :

KVD just dominated all the way. Enjoy watching him always.

They had mentioned his moving around and learning key spots that could be winners when the moment was right. And the sun did come out and thats all she wrote. Done

Noticed the spinnerbait size and took a second or two before he would start burning it.

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

He must have had a good batch of his lucky cookies from the wife. Awesome action, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I was hoping Ehler would have gone neck and neck with him. Oh well.KVD is a fishing machine!

fishing user avatargripnrip reply :

The "lessons" show airs next Sunday.  Maybe KVD will be more specific.

Looking forward to it.

The show / info I'm most interested in is the day he was burning a square bill and hammering Mutant smallies.

I live and fish up in N. MI and that's a new one on me . . . .

btw - those lakes are going to get POUNDED this year.

One thing that was OBVIOUS to me was that he was fishing all of his baits much, much faster than anyone else was. He was RIPPING that Jerkbait, and really burning that crankbait and spinnerbait. With that clear water and targeting smallmouth, it all makes sense.

Yup, as cool as it seems it would be to have a camera crew and tv on our home waters, it would just ruin the place for a full season at least. When Field and Stream did an article on Cobbosseecontee Lake here in Maine, it became a vacation destination for everyone.

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

I can't wait for the Major League lesson from this show.  As dominant as KVD was I wonder if they will have him talk about more than one subject.  LOL.

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

Just finished watching if on the DVR. I made it a point to stay off Facebook and this thread so it would be a "surprise" (that was very sarcastic it was kind of obvious who was going to win when the show just started)

KVD the G.O.A.T

He is the best man! I was rooting for Hackney he made his run then KVD broke out and set records lol, guy is the Jordan of fishing breaking his own records.

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

I purchased the year pass for the Extended Cast of all the Episodes (for all the seasons).  The fisherman explain a lot more in those episodes (i.e., parts that were edited out for the TV version). Maybe there will be a little more explanation in the Extended Cast of the Championship Round when the have it on-line.

As far as what aired, according to Marty Stone, KVD would just move spot to spot and make a handful of casts at each.  What gets me is that these guys know how KVD fishes, yet there is no one that tries to duplicate his style.  His whole premise is reaction strikes, but there are just not many fisherman (even ones I fish with, including myself) that do this.  I am the first to slow it down with a drop shot or some other finesse technique as opposed to sticking with exploring various reaction-strike lure alternatives.

Too bad Cobbe is awful... :sleepy2:

Im not sure if I like that the lakes are all smallies. I really did enjoy the visual fishing on chataqua and istokpoga. Just makes for better TV in my opinion. But I hate the spoilers they have on the main page of the website... ruined more than one show for me.

I think that its a very hard thing to emulate someones style of fishing and be truly sucessful with it.

fishing user avatarSFL BassHunter reply :

They have that 29 dollar extended cast thing online. You can watch all the videos which are pretty long. I think it is well worth it. I'm going back and watching the 2012 cup till I make it to the current one. It's cool cause its a yearly pass you can go back to whatever episodes you like and watch them again!

Finals got put on extended cast today.
