I realize that he can't win them all, but a decent finish in the Elite Series would be nice. Two bad showings in CA, now dropped to 57th place at Pickwick after being in 24th after day 1. Obviously, I'm a huge KVD fan so I'm hoping he gets going soon. Looks like Skeet is going to be a shoo-in for AOY at the rate he's going.
KVD is the best there is at catching small bass. If the weights are up he is mortal. If its a swimbait bite he does poorly. He needs a realy tough lake with a bunch of 2lb fish and he will be very hard to beat.
you hear about everyone being intimidated by KVD, but now KVD is intimidated by Skeet Reese 8-)
Some pros go years without a significant win in their careers. I'd say KVD's had more than one angler's share of wins, so he's probably not sweatin' this very much!
Everybody goes through a slump now and then. So he might not win AOY this year... maybe that'll be just what he needs to be able to put off building another trophy case for a little longer. ;D
What Matt said, plus the added pressure & stress of being defending AOY and 2010 BMC champion.
KVD was second to Skeet Reese in 2007 and won AOY back to back in 2008 and 2009. Then he won the 2010 Bassmaster Classic. I think he is due to have a mediocre Elite Series.
Quoteyou hear about everyone being intimidated by KVD, but now KVD is intimidated by Skeet Reese
I doubt it. If he wasn't intimidated after losing to him in 2007 he probably isn't now.
Um...he just got 22nd place and he won the bassmaster classic?

Pfff ha thats funny. Funny guy right here funny guy

Completely agree. This theory has proven time and again. His technique is for finicky fish and smaller bass <5 lbs.
KVD almost never does real well in the beginning of the season fishing the south and western lakes. He usually hit overdrive as the tour reaches the upper mid west and northeast lakes.

X2. Whenever the Elites go to the California lakes or lakes Amistad or Falcon KVD usually doesn't make the final cut but like you said he's tough to beat at the other lakes.
All of this is true, however the TN River chain he usually does very well. I thought for sure he would've had a better showing at Pickwick.

Like you, I thought that KVD would make up some ground at Pickwick and next week at Guntersville.
After this weekend, there are only four tournaments left before the two postseason tournaments. It's going to be tough to get back in it.
KVD won the classic this year, enough said.
It may not be an Elite series event, but it was the biggest win of this year, he'll take Classic win #3.
by the way, a swimbait wasn't even on the classic radar for the biggest win of the year.

Now that's funny
I personally believe that the bass are just sick of any Sexy Shad color anymore! He'll bounce back... Probably even a win! For now, he's off my Fantasy team though. >
I stand by what I said months ago... IKE is the most consistent fisherman in the elites.
I completely agree with the thoery that KVD struggles on big fish lakes. I've listened to his audios and he admits that his style is great for catching 2-3 lbers all day but it struggles on lakes where you need a 5 plus pound average. If thats the case then why hasn't he worked toward developing a gameplan for fishing those big fish lakes.

It would be cool to see Hackney win AOY.

Skeet leads by 153 points. He's smoking the field right now.
Didn't KVD get 2nd last year at Kentucky lake and weigh in like 92 93 pounds? And he won back in 08 there too with like 85 pounds. So while I agree that he does excel in the smaller fish tournaments, I think he is more than capable of catching the big ones too.

Very Interesting.
Lake Guntersville, Guntersville, AL, May 6-9 2010
day 1
kvd #23 today with 23lbs
skeet #1 today with 29-3 lbs
You mean he really is human???
Glad to see him make the jump from 18th place to 5th 8-) He'll be in the finals, but he'd need a whopper stringer to win. Hopefully he'll stay in the top 5.
KVD is just giving the guys a chance to win a few bucks.. He'll step it up soon.. ;D
This thread is absolutely hilarious. I love our "experts" breaking down the Elite Series field and getting in depth on why Kevin isn't winning as much. Lol. It's fishing. You can't win everything. Since were all throwing random things out here, I'm guessing KVD is experiencing exactly what Ike did after he won the 03' Classic. Actually, I'm sure of it.
BTW, he probably can't see everyone's comments on why he can't catch big fish because his AOY and Classic trophies are blocking the screen.
He stuck in Freud's anal stage and his norepinephrine levels are low.

I would love to be in a "slump" like KVD. An AOY a year ago and a Classic win this year. Must be tough being him!! :D :D
Horrible slump! Absolutely horrible!
Oh, wait, he's leading the tournament right now! ;D
I was hoping to catch the weigh in but missed it. What'd he end up with for the day?

Yep, KVD is back on his horse carrying almost a 3# lead into the final day on Kentucky Lake tomorrow. Kelly Jordon is coming on strong though.
KVD won it and he's back in the postseason points race.

You can always count on him to show at KY Lake, I was surprised at Guntersville, seemed like it was set up for him but a top 10 is nothing to look down on.
Looks like he's solidly back, and after this event in the top 5 in the AOY. KVD's not my favorite angler but he is most definitely the best. Unfortunately my favorite's(IKE) season is over.
It sure would be something if KVD was able to steal that AOY away from Skeet this year.

C'mon Nice_Bass, if your gonna try to rip me, at least do it in a way that it doesn't take me 5 minutes to realize what you were trying to do. Go back and edit your post so it gets it out of my post and people will be able to see what you were trying to say.
Oh and I was just wondering......how is KVD doing right now?
Everyone has a slump now and then. It looks like Van Dam's slump didn't keep him out of the race and he has made a very nice recovery to sixth. This is just another example of his ability. It takes an excellent angler with strong mental composure to come back from where he was.

Sorry about that. I wear gloves when I type so I don't hurt my fingers. Dang things get in the way all the time!
