Well, I am sure I'm not alone when I say that cabin fever has set in bad. Ice fishing is getting old and it is way too darn cold to hike or bike. It is this time every winter that It's nice to reminisce a little about some of the great bites we encountered in past seasons (I tend to favor the brown bass bites 8-) ) So let's see some of your better smallies from last year. If you want, you can also state the weight and what baits your beauties fell to. I'll get the ball rolling...
My avatar pic- Spro Hydro Pop 60... 4.2lbs

Some of mine from 2009:

Don't know for sure. I always keep a float out while I work my drop shot, tubes and cranks. Probably a third or less on the float. I'm always trying something new.
Not one of me, but my sons best so far came last year at 5lbs even.

Now that's just awesome Great to see a youngster fishing!
This was a 4 pounder I caught in the river a few blocks fron home. Them river fish seem to pull harder than any lake fish of the same size. May not be much but that a big smallie in my parts.
You guys smoked them! Those are all GIANT smallies!
My best last season went just over 3lb..nothing special especially compared to the beast's already posted, but it helped seal my 2nd place overall for the club season so I was happy with it!
JP
good to see a young boy catch a fish like that great memories. a lot of good looking smallies posted.
^^My 5 pounder biggest yet!
Dang I thought mine were big until i seen a few on here! Mine are good size for virginia though!

Kent, it was huge! That 3-12 was the most disappointing scale up of the year, LOL. I weighed it on two scales, because I didn't believe what it was saying. That fish fought so hard, and was so pretty....alas, post spawn fish from Conesus Lake. One of those elusive, shallow, cruisers. Contrast that fish to the 3-11 prespawn fish from Oneida. You can see the belly fat with eggs if you look closely.
a few from last year also one of my wife's smallmouth
Caught this one on a 1/2 oz Strike King Red Eye Shad in bleeding gizzard.
I was going to post my best smallies but I can't hold a candle to you guys. I got so far to go to get to be as good as KVD, my hero. His brother caught a huge smallie I read in BASSMASTER magazine. :o
Quotea few from last year also one of my wife's smallmouth
I noticed that you were bank fishing on the New River. If you wouldn't mind divulging you secret spots my roommate and I have been looking for some spots close to Blacksburg to go go small mouth fishing. I understand if they are a secret, because being able to produce fish is important. Thanks
Of the twenty or so 4+ pound fish I caught last year, I only got pics of these four.
The top was the biggest, 4 lb 12 oz
Next one was bout' 4 1/2
Last two around 4 1/4
Good times. In a few weeks I'll be out lookin' for a legit 5.

Beautiful fish! The Susky is one of my favorite places for smallmouth. Nothin' like river fishing. Good luck gettin' after that 5 pounder!
Those New river fish are awesome... true trophies!!!
I have got a few from last fall. My buddies both caught their personal best. 7.0 and a 7.0 I caught a few nice ones myself. Fishing was fantastic.
My buddies 7.0.
and this is him with the same fish!
Here's the other 7.0
And here is a couple of 5.5's
And 6.8 and 6.6
My God!!!! I didn't know they came that big?!?
Hey SmallieFever,
That #8 X-Rap Gold, is that the sub walk I see on Rapala's site, or another version?
Thanks for the help.

What I used was the #8 X Rap jerkbait in the gold color. New this year is Rusty Craw, which is very similar. It just looks different in their pic. I don't know why but that was my best color last year for jerkbaitin.
rlrsurveying, NICE FISH! Where at, Erie?
Those fish are all from Saginaw Bay ( Lake Huron) in Michigan. I could not believe the size that we were catching. I lived in NC since I was 12 and Had to drive 2 hrs. to either the New River or Lake James to catch smallies. I moved to Michigan 5 years ago and started walleye fishing. I decided to try and find some bass last fall and couldn't believe what I found. I can not wait till open water gets here. I will say this... no exaggeration... We have caught over 60 to 70 fish over 5lbs, 30 to 40 over 6.0 but only 2 hitting the 7 mark. They are very wide but short and fat. HUBCAPS! 20 In fish is usually 6lbor over and 21's are 7.0 and over. If that gives you any idea. If anyone is interested in coming up I will be glad to share some info.
Got to give you credit there rlrsurveying! Those are truly incredible smallmouth bass. The best of the best for sure. Our current state record is 8 lbs., 2 oz., taken way back in 1991! I doubt there are more than 1/2 dozen such critters this size, roaming the waters here abouts anymore. But I know there are plenty of 6's and maybe a 7 or two. My dream is get into a solid 6 pounder this year. We'll see.
Like I said, I had no idea they came that big. Truly amazing!

It seems Erie has some competition these days...for the record, Ontario is junk and has few bronzebacks over four pounds... :
These were my last two from 2009.
Dwight and rlrsurveying,
Those fish are gorgeous!!!! Gets my blood pumpin' just looking at the pics
Dwight... Did you weight the one on the left? Very nice fish. I noticed the small mark on the one on the left. We had alot of those similar marks on ours also. Great catch!! What is your biggest from over there?
rlsurveying the fish on the left weighed 6-4 as I remember. My biggest so far is 7-6. Your into some beautiful fish. I always used to think the biggest fish came in the spring because of prespawn but there are some real biggies caught in the fall. Most people are missing the boat on fall fishing.
This one is not last year, but I didn't get much time chasing smallies last year, this isn't my personal best but its a good pic and the fish is fatter than me ;D
Lake Erie 2009
From the SuskyDude neighborhood.
New on here but an avid smallie hunter. I fish the St. Joe River in Niles Michigan. Best last year was 4-7 and put up quite a fight. Hope pics work. Thanks
A little over 4 lbs from my yak.
Great looking smallies guys!! I would post mine but I already did in one of my threads. My biggest ones were at 4lbs 05oz. and My fishing partner (father) was right at 5lbs.
Guess I'm a little late in the game but here is my best from the Tennessee River (Ky. Lake) last year. Caught her at the roadtrip.
4 lbs. 13 oz.
Nothing compared to those northern fish, but have to represent GA. Smallies! We don't have many left. Caught at Lake Blue Ridge. This was my first, and only last year. 2lb. 13. oz...
Here is some more Washington Smallies....
