Favorite blade bait 2024

What is your favorite and what combo do you use it on?
Based on the recommendation of the smallmouth guru around me, I use Wolf's Big Dude blade bait from Wisconsin. 7' rod ml action with 10 lb braid and an 8lb fluoro leader. I threw one quite a bit over the weekend and preferred the 7' rod over a 7'6'
I often got the hooks tangled. Any tips on correcting that?

I really like the Damiki Vault and the Lucky Craft ILV 50.
If your hooks are fouling up, it's from hooks that are too big. Switch to shorter shank hooks and try using a smaller size treble if that doesn't solve the issue.

I prefer M stick for the little bit of extra horse power. Also a 10 lb braid but with at least a 10 lb MONO leader. Better knot strength and it slows the bait a some on the fall. In the colder water that's a good thing. I like the Vault too but it is a small bait. A5/8 or 3/4 oz Silver Buddy works well for me. Both silver, gold and the plain non shiny tin one are producers.
Finally, and I've mentioned this before but the Duo Realis G-fix 3/4 oz rattlebait fished like blade bait is KILLER. Gets bigger bites and has far less hook tangling characteristics.

The Big Dude is my favorite too. I use them for white bass and hybrid stripers on a spinning rod. I use 10lb braid but without a leader. I found if I try and stop the lure before it hits the water, it will foul almost every time. It has to land naturally and then it rarely fouls.

I would ditch the braid to keep the hooks from tangling but that’s just me . Mine do way better on mono. I use a big baitcaster with 12 lb usually, if I threw a 3/4 oz silver buddy on a spinning rod........ well it better be a tuna rod..........

You could try using actual leader material. It is usually a bit stiffer than what you spool up. That could keep the hooks from fouling. Just a thought, no idea if it would help.

Usually use a spinnerbait rod (baitcast) to throw standard sized blade baits, often MH rated. Smaller ones go on spinning outfits (M action). Straight fluoro on casters, 10 lb. usually - sometimes 12; braid with a leader on spinning; 8-10# to 8-10#. Almost never have an issue tangling on baitcasters. Spinning outfits - just get your casting technique down so the bait doesn't roll or spin in the air. Also, tighten your line right before the bait lands, then give a quick 'pop' so you feel the blade vibrate to assure it landed correctly, then keep a taut line on the fall.

I found this to be the case as well and made sure to let it land naturally after realizing this.

If you're fishing clear(er) water - keep it natural/mellow - Ghost Gill, Tule Perch, & Ghost Minnow.
Also the 'shiny' patterns , blue & blue chrome are poth staples in most any waters.
Duo came out with some new patterns this year, that I do not have (yet).
All three on the new "Craw" colored baits are binging very hard on the A-Jay Bait Monkey Radar screen. Going to have to Just fixed that.
Either way - these are highly recommended.
Brown bass here murder them.

Damiki vault or silver buddy on a 7’6” ML Cumara with 8-12 lb line depending on snags around. Tie your hooks with braid loops instead of split rings and try using #3 or 4 Gamakatsu Aaron martins fineness trebles. This setup works great for me. I can cast them a mile and feel every rock on the bottom as well as keep from pulling the hooks out of them

Just my opinion, but I've never found one manufacturer's blade bait to be superior to another. And I've tried a lot of them. Now a days I get my blade bait bodies from Barlow's in bulk. No hooks or hardware. Those I put on myself. I do not use trebles on any bait anymore either. Too damaging to the fish and with blades, they snag too easily.
Now I used only VMC Inline single hooks, size 1/0 on the rear hanger only. This modification has performed very well for me and has caught me a lot of quality smallmouth, largemouth and lake trout. Still cannot put up a picture for whatever reason, but it's a pretty straight forward modification.

I'm also not stuck on any particular brand. In fact I purchased a dozen off that auction site, from an outfit in China. I switched out the hooks and use them when fishing from shore. If I loose one, I'm only out $1.50 and they do catch fish.

I use the 1/2 oz silver or gold Binsky blade. Good hooks and snap right out of the package. Very thin, "tuneable" blade, and 4 options for tying points on the top. My blade bait success (which was already decent) went UP when I switched to the Binsky over homemade blades. The Binsky has a more subdued vibration, falls straighter, and lands nose down (often standing up on its nose)…I know I like that better, and it translates to me fishing it with more confidence and catching more fish.
I use a Dobyns Fury 703c casting rod, 6.3:1 Daiwa Fuego CT, 20lb Power Pro braid, and 12lb fluorocarbon leaders. This has been the best rod I have ever used for this. I previously used stiffer/faster MH powered rods and lost more fish than I do with the 703c.

I can't say I've ever used a blade bait. You stay out of the game for a few years and you miss a lot. Blade baits, senkos, chatterbaits. I have a lot of catching up to do.

I think perhaps they are. They look familiar. But I honestly don't remember anyone talking about them back then.

They are old school especially the "silver buddy" but they excel at what they do which is catch fish.

Interesting. So these "Binsky" blades have to be "tuned"? Why? And how would you know which way to tune it? What effect are you trying to achieve by tuning it? I've tried these, along with a half dozen other makes. I still catch fish regardless. I seriously believe it more in how YOU use the blade, than the blade manufacturer. JMO.

I make my own blade baits from Do it molds. I have 2 of the old Zonar molds closest to the Silver Buddy. I can pour 1/4 oz. that I use on a spinning rod or 1/2 oz. that I use on an old Bass Pro cranking stick 7 ft. They've always been around and the wise always kept using them!!

No, they don't have to be tuned. But because they are thin, if they do get bent, they are far easier to bend straight again.
