Just thought this might be interesting. For me it is (sad to say) only 3.
The grounds are that. Consecutive catches (hook up and landing the fish) with no losses in between.
4 great casts, made even sweeter by the stomping I gave my fishin partner that night. The totals came out to like 30 fish for me and like 4 for him. It was AWESOME!
I'm assuming the poll refers to freshwater bass.
My answer was four.
If it includes saltwater, that number would be much higher.
I voted regarding bass.
If you include bluegills and bream, it is over 15 in a row.
Yesterday morning (May 25) I caught 8 in a row before I lost a bluegill.
5 but that was Largemouth, Hybrids, and white bass all mixed in together. this was off of our dock at night with a crankbait. all three of these species stack up upunder our dock light and right when they start pulling water, they go into a feeding frenzy, Its a BLAST! ;D ;D But if were only counting LM then it would be 2.
This is not fair, I have lakes available to me that you can go hours catching bass every cast.

I said 7 and it's only because I just can't remember back all the years.
It happened on the road trip at KY lake. I had gone down to the boat to pull my rods out for the day and decided to toss a jig along the jetty. The first cast resulted in a 15" keeper. I continued to toss along the same place and continued to catch a bass on the next 6 casts. The 8th cast resulted in no bite. 9th cast, another fish.
I quit after that.
Caught 13 in a row in Canada smallmouth fishing a couple of years ago caught 14 in 15 casts. I have it all on film somewhere.
It was 6 or 7 for me. My wife and I were on a canoe trip and found a little flat next to a drop off that yielded a good sized SMB every cast until we moved on. Now for the embarassing revelation, my wife outfished me.
If this includes rock bass the answer is in the 100s
As far as i can remember I'm at 3 also for bass.
Bluegill fishing however is a different story.I gave up counting after 37.

Most everyone I would bet fishes for bass here, but this poll is not just for bass. Any fish/species goes so post that count(s) and if you wish you can be species specific. I bet the panfish and bluegill numbers is going to be high!
Walked up to a small lake near my house. The wind was blowing towards the bank I started at. Using Mepps #3 caught 15 fish on 16 casts . No way were they what you would call "keepers". Probably only 4 or 5 were. You didn't qualify size ...

I said more than eight because when you find a school of feeding fish (I'm not talking about schoolies) you can catch a ton by changing the direction of the cast as well as changing lure choice.
In order to answer that question you would have to 'Count Fish'.
Thank goodness, that's one bad habit I don't have ;D
When your timing is right, there are many places on Georgian Bay (Lake Huron)
where you will catch smallmouth bass on countless back-to-back casts.
Places where an unproductive retrieve is usually due to a lost fish.

This year I had a tournament at Geist Reservoir in Indianapolis, I pulled up on a point and caught 13 bass off of this one point. 8 of them came on consecutive casts, but they were all 11-13 in. fish. It was so frustrating but very fun at the same time.
I really don't know. After many years of fishing, a few 100 fish days, some 0 fish days, and the multitude of average days, this is one statistic that wasn't important enough for me to remember it.
17 in a row twice
Just three when it comes to bass. Wow 17 in a row, I would have to bronze the lure. ;D
23 fish in 22 casts. Happened just this past Saturday.
I caught more than 20 small bass ( I stopped counting at 20) in a row at alligator alley a few weeks ago. It was crazy good fishing if you like catching small (12") bass. Im sure there are other guys around here with similiar reports. Right now in So Fl, it is a great time to teach kids how to bass fish. Any kind of small worm or bait works.
I went out yesterday and it was the same. I was pulling the baits out of their little mouths hoping a bigger bass would go after it.
I have some family in Vermont with a 22 acre lake butting up against their property.
When I was up there in April this year, I had a streak at the end of a day where I caught 15 in a row and 18 out of 20, at which point it was too dark to see. None of the fish were under 2.5lbs, all smallmouth on a jerkbait.
It's not too difficult to get me to visit the family in VT. ;D

My best day ever also happend this last weekend on Sunday. Found a flooded cornfield with a bluegill spawn flat on a private lake loaded with bass. The bass were raiding the nests. I did not keep exact counts but I know the number was around 25 to 30 fish in a row before I went a cast without a fish. A few nice ones and dinks mixed in there. My buddy and I went on to catch close to 100 bass in a 100 yard area.. all released of course. I know that sounds like a lie... but its not.
On public waters my best was 14 on a wind blown point.
My number for crappie would probably be near the same... although that occurs much more frequently.
16 dragging and Dead Sticking a 5 inch Senko Watermelon Red Flake on the Rio River. 16 ft hole maybe 40 feet wide in the back of a Bayou. Lost the 17th because I forget to check the condition of the line. All we keepers, largest was over 5 lbs. A Heron showed us the spot.
I'm not sure specifically but definitely over 8. The last time I can remember was in a pond using senkos. I had about a dozen in a row but none of them were over 3lbs
I had the most fun with my kids while brim fishing with fly rods over the fish beds. We lost count after 35 or so of non stop fish hitting the flys as they hit the water. My kids thought it was the greatest thing, catching them like crazy we were.
For bass I had a day some years ago fishing a Super Spot in the chartreuse/white G-Finish (If anyone remembers that) where I caught 14 straight over a windblown grass point. All identical 15 inchers. Thought I was in heaven. If you count panfish I have honestly caught probably 50-75 straight from a minefield (what I call a group of beds).
Quote17 in a row twice
so, 34?
for me, probably something like 3-4
At least 4, we were on a small lake that had numbers of little bass and I happened upon a small area where they seemed to be schooling, none were of any size but they fought like big dogs!
QuoteI'm assuming the poll refers to freshwater bass.My answer was four.7for me

me too
For bass, only 3 :-[
Saltwater fish are a different story ;D
22 brown fish in a row is my pb
For green fish its 9.
The first time I fished the Yamamoto Kreature I caught 8 in a row and 9 in the first 10 casts. Needless to say that it has become one of my favorite baits.
ive gotten 11 or 12 in a row. these were in a pond and all were only around 12". i dont really count that because ponds, IMO are alot easier then lakes to fish. in a lake i dont know if ive ever gotten more then one.
probably in between 3-5, not exactly sure. But i do know that they were all dinks
Somewhere around 7 - 9 smallmouths.
around 9 or 10 in a row while fishing for white bass on KY Lake
Fishing on Lake Anacocco (MS) back in like 2000. First time used a wacky rig during the sumer. My partner and I caught like 30+ that day.
While fishing the Delaware for herring, we catch 2-3 per cast on consecutive casts for hours on end.
I cant remember the exact number because it was several years ago but I caught 75 largemouth in about and hour and a half at a large farm pond. most were in the 1lb range but also caught several 4-5lb and 2 over 7lb in that time frame. The owner has since passed away and his son will not allow fishing anymore!!!!
Well, the original question was just most "fish". If you want to count
white bass, you can catch a fish or at least get bit on every cast until
you run out of bait!
Mid March through the middle of April, white bass gather to spawn
on the Tennessee River. The exact spot is important, but
once you find them, anchor down and grab a beer!
The fish can be caught on any traditional white bass lure, white grubs
are the obvious choice. However, this is the kind of fishing where you
want to take people who don't fish much or catch anything when they
do, especially kids. Baby crawdads are the ticket...GUARANTEED!
We rig light or ultralight tackle with a small hook, slip weight above
a swivel (light weight C-rig, unpegged). Cast out, retrieve slowly.
The limit here has been reduced to 15, so be sure you count carefully.
You can catch all you want, but the kept limit is strictly enforced.

those 6 fish were all bass on a lake by my school. they were caught on spinnerbaits. my biggest one was a pound bass. I was having so much fun that i forgot to check my line and the next cast my lure flew right off. good thing it was a cheap one.
Right you are RW, I forgot all about white bass
For anyone fishing Lake Erie during the opening weeks of smallmouth bass, just keep an eye peeled for working birds.
We'd run up within casting distance of every busting school, then just drift and cast like a bluefish blitz on the ocean
Eventually we ran out of 3 white grubs :-[
Believe me, you'll soon tire of counting fish.

When I take people fishing that just want to catch fish I'll take them to chase the schools of white bass. They never dissapoint! Good to eat too!
QuoteQuote17 in a row twiceso, 34?
for me, probably something like 3-4
17 in a row on Toledo Bend all were over the legal 14
17 in a row in the Big Burns varying in size from 10 17
4 trout on 4 consecutive casts at Albert Pike. They were killin' my Power-Egg C-rigged. ;D caught a total of around eight in about an hour.

My partner and I keep track of the running total of 5+ lb
smallmouth and 20+ lb striper. My totals for 2008 and so
far in 2009 are fairly easy to remember: -0-
The loneliest number.
QuoteThe loneliest number.
LOL
Honesty is the highest number
Roger
opening trout day this year, I pulled out 8 in the first 8 casts. was great, everyone up and down the stream was watching because they weren't getting anything. we just had the right spot! Tried to post a pic but it wouldn't let me because i'm new. it was just rediculous though haha. At one point I had a snag, was getting it un-tangled and bam! got another!
