Humor: Warning for newcomers 2024

fishing user avatarflyphisher # reply :

When asking questions on decent priced gear:

Warning!!!!!

In a few minutes there will be several posts that will tell you that you wont catch fish unless you save some more money and get a $500 Loomis rod    then they will pm you w/ info about a 2nd or 3rd mortage info on your home and selling your children and pets into slavery or to Gypsies depending on going price, so you can afford the $800 reel you will need to catch fish    Scariest part is this Loomis/shimano Mafia isnt even sponsored or affliated with the company, once you join there is no getting out. Then comes going without meals to afford lucky craft lures and other japanese lures.....

Its real bit of machismo that goes on here You get a tough looking avatar, then you can be a tackle expert and discredit anyone who doesn't use what they use Stay loose its just fishing equipment ;)

There are some really knowledgeable people here who just make a suggestion because thats their experience and they let it go others well they are  just the others :o

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

See even Mooks can get it right  ;)

Man....you really need to relax.

You got up in arms about a Kentucky comment, now you cant take a CLEARLY DEFINED JOKE.

Deep breaths sir, deep breaths.....

If your comment was made in a more light-hearted way, I apologize and encourage the use of  :)  ;)  :D  ;D or some other variation that lets people know your intentions.

No body got up in arm about anything on this end.  I just made a statement and will stand by it.  As far as the Clearly Define Joke the comment (to each his own) means he can use what he wants to.  Nobody care much less ME.

Thanks for the reminder, Speedbead.  I make a lot of quick posts when working and often I forget to place the little smileys on them, and I'm sure I've offended a few people.  I apologize to anyone that I have offended due to my failure to communicate properly.  (No apologies to those I've offended on purpose.  ;))

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

clearly just some misunderstood posts here.  Moving on....

I say "to each his own" also.  Use whatever tickles your fancy, just smile when you're doing it.  If you feel you have confidence because a rod cost $500,...buy one.  If you feel you can still catch with the current $50 combo you have,..keep it.  As long as you are fishing, and as long as you are enjoying yourself, who cares what you used to get there. IMO

fishing user avatarflyphisher # reply :

I use the stuff, too..So I can get it, can afford it,etc....Shimano reels anyway,Have daiwas too....Have owned and own custom built Loomis flyrods.... This joke can actually go for any high name tackle.....

Cant even make a joke on here without peeing in someones cheerios.....Do I need to quit posting anything???? or do people need to chill out?

My avatar is prollie offensive to someone... ::)

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

I think it's because if you read the original post, it doesn't read like a joke as much as someone just trying to stir the pot, push buttons.

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

Fly, I got your humor. I am almost as cheep as they come. I can afford a Loomis but I have never bought one. I have one Shimano, but it is one of the old green ones. I also have one Abu, one Pflueger and several Diawas. I use $33 All-Star Rods and a few more that I built myself.

I do see your point and it's a good one for our members who are new to bass fishing. You don't need to by the most expensive or most popular equipment to catch the biggest bass. I wish you could see Randall's Rod a Reel collection. It is comprised of old rods with electrical tape on the butts to hold the balance weights. They are equipped with reels that are so old that all the paint has been worn off and it is down to the plastic body. They still work and as we all know they still catch the biggest bass. I have much respect for my friend Randall for what he has achieved with the low cost equipment that he has.

Its cool. I think you are quite funny.....

Hooray for cheap stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!    :D

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

I have some very high quility Gloomis stickers for sale you can put on any rod you desire 50 bucks a peice, limited warrenty, ::)

fishing user avatarJayW reply :

Well, I use Calcutta's and my own custom built rods. I don't think it matters what you use, but it sure can make it more enjoyable with a nice reel and a nice balanced rod.  ;) I know of a local guy who caught a 17+ Bass a few years back on a Zebco 33 combo and a wild shiner fishing a private phosphate pit.  Anything can work (although I'm surprised the 33 did)  ;D

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Hey Fly how could a Grateful Dead Avatar with a teddy bear in it offend anyone??

fishing user avatarflyphisher # reply :

Muddy, you know what some people think about hippies.....

If bass rods do like alot of fly rods, wait a few years and that new technology isnt so new or expensive anymore......Bad thing is the lighter, more advanced, more sensitive rod is also more likely to break.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

I got it was a joke from the first post.  Thought it was a fun bit of dry humor.  :)

I've discovered myself I can catch just as many dinks with expensive gear as I did with the bargain buys.  :D

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Hey Guys,

You know what's interesting about this thread?

The fish have no idea of the brand names of any of our equipment.  Nor do they know if we are using spinning or baitcasting set-ups; fly fishing; or cane poles.

It is so much fun to read comments on this site about specific brands and types of equipment. But that is for us humans. The fish really don't care.

And how did you get the teddy bear in the Grateful Dead symbol? Kool.

I drove 642 miles today so I am going to bed.

You all have fun with this thread.

Conversation between two anglers at the weight in

- Redlinerobert is really the worst fisherman I 've ever seen, he always finishes in the last place.

- Yeah he is ..... I wonder how does it feel to drive to the tourney in a spankin brand new H2 limited edition, jump on a spankin brand new Ranger Z22 and fish with a deck full spankin brand new Steez rods n 'reels. BTW, you managed to pay your mortgage, house, cat & boat payments ?

fishing user avatarBASS fisherman reply :

Third angler observing from the side:"I heard he missed last months cat payment."  ;D

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Yeah, that 's what happens when you have three different sites open at the same time and jump from the pet forum, to the plant forum to the fishing forum randomly.  ::)

I have one Shimano, but it is one of the old green ones.

Are those older than the black ones, 'cause mine's black?  And its still my one of my favorites.  That reel, on a Berkely Series One rod, is still my favorite worming outfit.  AND, back in the day, I picked up the rod for $28 and the reel for $42 (20 years ago).  Needless to say, the rest of my stuff is less in value.  Other than the Shimano Curado I bummed off of my cousin (for nothing), I don't have any rod or reel over $50 and can't complain.  To each his own.

P.S.  Like Glenn said, I saw the humor in this from the start, too.

Oh, and here's my smiley so I don't offend anyone. . . LOL

;D

Jim, you got it bass-ackwards; the Steez reel goes on the Snoopy pole, Jeesh, how many time do I gotta tell ya

fishing user avatarTom Bass reply :

I wasn't going to say anything when this thread started and I decided not to say anything when it went downhill....I'll say something now.

Fish with what brung ya!  ;)

Live it!

fishing user avatarCravin reply :

Ever done this?

Last time I went out fishing I set up an older cheaper rod & reel with a weightless bait and set it aside. after having no luck with two of my nicer setups with different baits(spinner & worm) I threw the old bulky rod and started tearing them up, by the time we left I had fished that setup 70% of the time and I noticed it didn't feel so bad after all and was having so much fun fishing I didn't think to switch the bait to my nicer setup.

Although I say "my nicer setups" I live in a smaller price range than others on this site,I set a limit on my rods to not exceed $100 and never spend more on a rod than the reel. Some may disagree but I haven't found a rod I could justify going any higher.

I found the secret was turning 40.  I've fished with medium quality gear for the most part, but shamed my family into going in on a Calais/Loomis GLX combo for the birthday! ;D  Secret is saying you don't want ANYTHING for your 40th, then one week before when their hounding you about it, you grab the Bass Pro Shops catalog and say FINE!  This is what I want.  What do you have to lose?

Btw, as much as I agree with the belief that you don't need to throw the best money can buy to be successful, I've gotta say that my combo is SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.
