Alright, lets hear it. For those of you in the frozen climates, how do you fill your bassin urge during these winter (frozen?) months? Here's some suggestions, but I want to hear your answers...
.....forget bass...put a deer in the crosshairs
.....organize that neglected tacklebox
.....building new tackle (lures/rods/boat) to land the summer's PB
.....spend all your free time on UltimateBassResource.com
.....go to a non-winter climate to get my bassin fix
...it's only ice... I surround it with bourbon daily?
.....what's a winter climate?
I'm sure you all have some better ways....let's hear them.
I drive to Texas a lot in the winter. Have made two trips already and plan 3 or more before the end of March. That, and fish power plant lakes.
We usually plan a one week trip to a warmer climate. In fact, we're leaving for Florida in twenty days. Besides that, these are some things I do to get through the winter months:
1- Organize all my tackle, replace bad hooks.
2- Spend alot of time at BPS, Gander Mountain, Dicks.
3- Clean and lube reels.
4- Spend alot of time here with you guys.
5- Read as much about fishing as I can.
6- Watch my new "Bass Pros" season one and KVD's "Advanced Spinnerbait Tactics" DVD"s.
7- Re-organize my tackle.
Things like that.

School, Bass Resource, as you said organize the tackle, pour plastics, and make jigs.
First year back in the sport since being a teen.
- Organized my tackle about five different times
- Play with my new crankbaits and watch my wife just shake her head in pity.
- Bought about 400 dollars in new tackle (half with gift cards)
- Bought new line and preparing what technique I want to use each of my spinning rods and reels for.
- Watch Bass Pro Season One over and over. ;D
Last year was my first real serious year in about 12 years. Got married, had a kid, joined a rock band, so i was just too busy. So this winter i am spending it BROKE. Updating all my gear, getting new quality rods and reels and boosting my tackle. I joined a bass club in the fall so this will be my first real season fishing tournaments. I'm gonna learn a lot about fishin and boats so that im prepared for buying my own boat
Also:
Organizing tackle, reading magazines and watching DVD's. Spent my lunch break yesterday walkin around the pond that i probably caught every Bass over 10" last summer and just daydreaming about the upcoming season, even though its completely iced over. Pathetic!
Walkin through the shops and tearin through Ebay for deals on Lucky Craft baits! (got a new Sammy yesterday for $8 !!!)
well this is going to be my second season of serious bass fishing so this winter has been very long. Things I'm doing in winter months:
Reorganized my tacklebox
Gone to BPS and soon going to Cabelas
Spending lots of money on fishing
Reading my first bass fishing book
Dreaming of the big hogs
Spending Hours on Bassresource
1) Tie some bass flies.
2) Pour over maps of lakes I plan to fish in '08.
3) Save $$$ in order to buy gas to drive to lakes I want to fish in '08.
4) Visit this site regularly.
5) Scrape dried nightcrawlers off hooks.
I will build a few rods, tie a few flies, reorganize tackle, dream about springtime. LOL
Spend time on this site.
Reveiw old fishing Mag's.
Orginize tackle
Add tackle
Went to the fishing show and watched VanDam's seminar
clean reels
work alot so i can save for some springtime trips
Finish cleaning and modding reels.
Reorganize my soft plastics.
Shop for more tackle like there's no tomorrow.
Count down days until Guntersville trip.
Visit with friends on BR. 8-)
Spend another $200.00 on tackle that I probably don't need. I like to go outside an my back deck and practice flipping. Luckly I live in the country where neighbors can't make fun of me. Man I can't waite till March gets here!
Reading last summer's issues of Playboy.
I go ice fishing myself. Sit in a warm ice shack with the wood stove fired up, watch fish on the aqua-veiew, allow the spinning orange glow of the vexilar to hypnotize me, jig the heck out of crappies and perch, watch the tip-ups (we've caught a lot of pike over 30", waiting for that 20 pounder), jig bass using hair jigs and jiggin' raps, caught a 17" bass today on a 2" perch jigging rap, ride ATV on the frozen tundra, and spend A LOT of time with my girl. Hell, you gotta keep busy, don't let a little ice keep you from gettin' at them fish!
--Get caught up on all the "honey-do's" that I put off from 1 MAR thru 1 DEC.
--Review my fishing logs from last season, and ponder the data
--Watch fishing shows/videos
--Boat repair/improvement projects
--Outdoor shows
1. Feed the Bait Monkey
2. Read as much as I can to learn new stuff (on forums like this one)
3. Watch my fishing videos
4. Watch Bass Pros and Lindner's Angling Edge as often as possible
5. Drool over all the new gear I've bought
I have fished 14 days out of the last 30......so
fishing is how I fill the winter months
1) Ice fishing
2) Photography
3) Snow shoeing
4) Lots of Hennessy!
Replacing all the hooks on my hard baits.
Watching every DVD I have on fishing
and read every mag Ihave got for the last year on fishing.
Dig out the Under Armor & Wind Pants
Pray it's cold & not rainy
Dust of the Rat-L-Traps
Put new skirts on the Spinner Baits
Start fishing the main lake points
Maybe even go chase a Speck or Red
Drop the rod, reel the slack, set the hook while saying this one is for Muddy, LBH, Glenn, Alpster, ah heck it's for all Y'all
Well as weird as it sounds I use it as a break, I use the time to do family things with in laws and my parents, that way it frees up my weekends in the warmer months
I also make plastics, get my tackle cleaned and organized, and try and get things done around the house to also free up those warmer days come spring
I still fish if there isn't ice, but I hunt like wild man every single chance I get. I actually like winter myself what makes me mad is there isn't enough snow
