10lb club... Need Suggestions 2024

fishing user avatarIdahoLunkerHunter reply :

Hi everyone. This next spring I am looking to possibly do some fishing out of state. Living in Northern Idaho and catching 6-8lbers is a great achievement but I really want to get into some 10+ hogs. I know this will probably not happen living in Idaho unless i catch the state record. I can take about a week or so off and I am looking for a local, not a guide just because I can't afford $350+ a day.

If anyone might be interested in hosting me I can pay for gas and traveling expenses.

Best Regards

fishing user avatarDavid P reply :

The 3 states that come to mind are California, Texas, and Florida.

Don't come expecting a 10lber though, no one can promise you one, and only a week of fishing.... The odds are against you.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Is there any way you can speak with members of Idaho bass clubs or the Idaho Wildlife and Fisheries Department and find out if there are any local ponds or bodies of water in your area that hold 10-pound bass before you venture out to a far destination?

You need to talk to a higer level person and not a desk jocky at the Wildlife and Fisheries. Someone who knows what they are talking about and will not just give you a curt answer and hang up.

If you strike out with your B.A.S.S. or FLW clubs and the Wildlife and Fisheries people cannot help you maybe you can find a blog on the web that you can ask people for information regarding where to catch the 10-pounders you seek.

Maybe Russ *** has some suggestions?  Give him a PM and see what he has to say.

And remember, as stated above, catching 10-pounders is not easy and it is usually a once in a lifetime experience unless you go to Florida, Texas, California or Mexico.

Good luck and let us know what you find out and how you do.  :)

fishing user avatarIdahoLunkerHunter reply :

I don't need a promise or anything lol. I really just want to get out, have a great week of fishing with the chance of catching a 10+ fish (Note: a 15+ hog would be perfect  ;D)

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Falcon, Amistad and Toledo Bend should be considerations.

8-)

fishing user avatarIdahoLunkerHunter reply :

Northern Idaho doesn't have very much in regards to bass fishing clubs. I am the only one, that I know of in our area, to consistently pull 5+ lb fish and a 8 this year. Everytime I wander into the local outfitter I get dropped jaws from pictures and I give them heads up where fishing has been hot lately.

I know down south near Boise and Pocatello fishing is pretty sweet, but most people I talk with are smallie fisherman. Most people around my area are Rainbow, Kokanee and Mackinaw fisherman. The bass fishing culture really hasn't exploded around here yet. I rarely see anyone out fishing for bass when I go out.

We also have a relatively short season being only 6 months because it's still snowing sometimes in May. The Spawn this year didn't even really start till June/July.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Got a passport ? who cares about Falcon or Amistad, the grass is greener at Sugar Lake and it 's just across the border, less than hour drive from MacAllen, TX.  ;)

yep

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

A few years ago I had the very same goal you did. All I wanted was the chance to wet my line where the DD's swim. Took me all of 45 minutes on Lake Fork. It was that easy. ;D

***Results not typical ;) ;D

fishing user avatarFishinDaddy reply :

The Kissimmee Chain in Jan-Mar is a good bet for a DD...and there are several of us here in the immediate area...

FYI -ghoti came down last year, and we only fished for about 6 hours and boated a 6 #er

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

My selections would be California, Florida, Mexico, or Texas during pre-spawn; the problem you will run into on California, Texas, and Florida lakes during pre-spawn will be weather.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

I do not have a DD to my credit but, as everyone has said, fish where the 10 lb'ers live.  Nothing more need be said.  I hope you can hook one in your week.

El Salto and Bacarrac are your best bets for a 10lb'er. Bacarrac almost guarantees one...........almost.      Last year, 15 out of 16 guys on the first weekend caught DD's at Bacarrac.

b

X2 if it is that important to get a 10LB fish go where they are most prevelant, A friend of mine got a 12 last winter out of Bacarrac- The odds of you going somewhere (especially in the US) with out a guide in one week getting a 10LBer are very slim sorry but it would be silly to expect that

fishing user avatarGeorge Welcome reply :

Many have gone, and many will go their whole life without catching a 10-pound or better LM Bass. This fact will remain whether you use a guide or you don't, or you fish lake x, y, or z.

You would have a better goal of enjoying each and every fishing outing and let size take care of itself. If it is to be it will happen. Too much emphasis is placed on that 10-pound goal.

Many of the southern or western North American lakes provide the potential.

fishing user avatarfishbear reply :

Come to Gergia, hire Randall as your guide, and have him take you to Varner in the Spring time!!!!

;)

Though I hope to catch a DD one day I know very well that it may never happen.  Right now I am focusing on breaking the 5 lbs mark.  But in reality I just go out each time and look to catch good numbers and educate myself on new baits in different situations.

Good luck my man  , you are going to need it. Unless you go to one of the prime states or Mexico and hire yourself a good guide and hope to get lucky.

I am totally that 1 in 16 guy that doesn't catch the DD! LOL

fishing user avatar-HAWK- reply :

Florida is the best bet to find that DD. Read this http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/bassmaster/columns/story?columnist=precht_dave&page=BASSblog

fishing user avatarjrhennecke reply :

Clearlake or the California Delta give you a pretty good shot at a 10 and a lot of action.

fishing user avatarJeremy D. reply :

Texas has some HOGS!! :o

fishing user avatarBirdNestBen reply :

well lets see I live here in Texas and will try to give you some suggestions......

I think as far as public lakes go in Texas I would stick with Lake Fork, although its true many of these other lakes mentioned have some hawgs.....

To tell the truth if it were me and I really wanted a DD, I would go to fish some lakes in Mexico like El Salto... this would give you the best chance......

Also, there are many private lakes here in Texas where huge bass are caught..... many of these places are very expensive, but would just about guarantee you a big bass..... you might check into one of these places and see if you can find a deal?????? :D

If you come to Fl, don't come to south fl. no good bass lake, other than lake O, central Fl is the place for that!

lake bacarac defintely ;)

fishing user avatarbenito reply :

Agree with suggestion for Randall in Georgia......Go to Lake Varner during Spring-time. I've been with him several times, and he's simply great at finding the bigguns.....And he's VERY reasonably priced, about $175-$200 for a day....My PB was caught with him (9lb-110z) in April...

fishing user avatarfishfordollars reply :

Falcon, or Sugar just below the border would give you a great shot. Try coming in February. It is a sight fishing heaven.
