Pretty neat article with pictures and details of each lure.
LMAO! I think the guys as Field and Stream need to get out more. The Storm Wildeye Swimbait is #11. Listed above the trap, T-1, and senko? And how is the senko #30? ;D
What are they smoking!!!! The Berkely Batwing frog ahead of the hula grub? The Storm Wild Eye swimbait and Terminator spinnerbait ahead of the Senko? Not a chance.
One more thing. What the heck is the Food Source Minnow doing anywhere close to this list ;D
I cant believe the trap didnt even crack the top ten! Storm swimbait was before it. Who reading this honestly has caught more fish using a storm wildeye swimbait than a trap? Probably VERY few.
In Bassin' mag's top 50 the senko was numero uno.
Bassin' mag's top 50 the Gene Larew Hawg Craw is #5
After reading that it makes me wonder who their sponsors are. That list is nothing but someones opinion. Nothing more.
That is a seriously botched top 50. Come on...you won't find a bigger Lucky Craft fan than me, but any Lucky Craft before a Bagley Original Balsa B in the top 50 lures of all time is just ridiculous. Not to mention the Storm Wildeye . What is it with all these unheard of baits...the pimple?! My advice for Field and Stream...pick a spinner and stick to it! There is no need for 10 inline spinners to be in the top 20! (I'm not sure if there is 10, but there is a bunch!).
12 of them are spoons. What's with that?
Quote12 of them are spoons. What's with that?
I would have included at least one SALAD FORK

lol
Spoons...I should have known. I was too lazy to google all those unfamiliar baits. Shame on me for assuming they were inline spinners! Spoons are sooo much better! As big gay Al on South Park would say..."Spoons are super-fantastic!"
This list looks more like the greatest selling lures of all time. Field & Stream? I am surprised that they even heard of a senko!

And it's in front of the Rapala Shad Rap? WTH? :-?
Whiule I disagree with almost all of the list you need to realize that they never said "Top 50 bass lures" these are top 50 freshwater lures that will catch anything. The list still sucks though.
It has been updated I think. It's also a top 50, but they split it up into groups for each fish, which I think is weird. They gave 14 lures to bass. They should have just put in general names like crankbait then talk about specific brand like Rapala DT.

1. Rattlin' Chug Bug
2. X-Rap
3. Crystal Minnow
4. Zara Spook
5. Rapala DT Crankbait
6. Snag-Proof Original Frog
7. Senko
8. Trick Worm
9. Zoom Fluke
10. Rat-L-Trap
11. White Spinnerbait
12. Jaw-Breaker Spoon
13. Jig-and-Pig
14. Booyah Pond Buzz Buzzbait
This I think is so much better. You may not agree with the order, but I agree with most of the baits.

1. Plastic Worms
2. Crankbaits
3. Spinnerbaits
4. Jig and Pig
5. Bucktail Jig
6. Topwater Plugs
7. Tail Spinners
8. Spoons
The article is not bass lure specific. That probably explains why so many spinners and spoons.
0i thought the list was weird. I did'nt recognize hardly any. I would have put the wiggle/mag wart instead of the "swimbait" they suck, and have no action. But the mag/wiggle wart would not be that high.
searoach
I think you guys are being unfair. It doesn't say anything about the lures being in any specific order, ie. most popular, most fish, highest price, best (a highly objective opinion), etc.
It just lists 50 of the best known in the sport of fishing. period.
The article never said bass, i don't even think they said freshwater. I've seen alot of people fishing the storm thing for walleye maybe thats why its where it is.
Agreed on whomever said the thing about order. Most of these lists are numerically independent, but nearly everyone assumes they are in some form of top down order.
I will give them this much, though: at least they gave us a convienient list and not force us to click through all of the pictures. Why is that so difficult for others to do?
Was this list made for the field or the stream??....can't tell, lol.
QuoteAnd how is the senko #30? ;D
Haven't seen the article, but that's all I need to know... :
8-)
LOL.......
What intern did they dig up to write that article? These "TOP" whatever lists always are way off. I can't believe Field and Stream actually published this. I have been a subscriber off and on for years and this ones is one of the worst aticles I've ever seen.
A thread awhile back talked about the casual Wal-mart fishermen. I believe this list is for them.
