Rapala DT crankbaits? 2025

fishing user avatarDukeDevil91 reply :

I fish north Florida and was wondering if they work and do the snag easily?

fishing user avatardodgeguy reply :

they work as good as any if not better.as far as snags go i don't think they are any worse than any other crankbait.

fishing user avatarShad_Master reply :

The biggest problem I have had with the DT's is that the lip is pretty flimsy and will break easily.  Other than that they work great.

fishing user avatarNEBassMan reply :

I love the DT cranks.  I've never had a lip break.  Don't know if that means they have fixed the problem or if i just got lucky and got good cranks.  I don't have a huge problem with hang ups.  Haven't lost one yet.

Jason

fishing user avatarDaniel My Brother reply :

I've never had the lip break on a DT crankbait, but I have had 2 lips break on Rapala Shad Raps. First one was casting and hit a dock. The second just casted right off the bait. I've fished Rapalas a bunch and these appear to be isolated problems.

fishing user avatarjustfishin reply :

I am not by far a crankbait thrower but, in the late summer I throw them on points. My three most productive by far have been  DT-10 and 16, Deep Wee R and  Norman Deep Baby N.

fishing user avatarAlpster reply :

I have always hated crankbaits and avoided them. I am just lately making myself learn how to fish crank baits. I have stuck to the most recommended, that being Rapalas and Lucky Craft. My inability not withstanding, so far as fish in the boat, the Rapala DTs have out performed the Lucky Crafts. I will know more after this year, as I am determined to know these lures and how to catch fish with them. I can snag anything, so I don't know how to compare, but I haven't lost one yet. Give me some time. ;)

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I Love these They are basically the only crank I use now I broke one lip out of about 8 r 9 I own. I was draggin one in the water off I rod I wasn't using and not paying attention IT GOT SUCKED INTO THE TROLLING MOTOR!!!!!

fishing user avatarNick B reply :

I have had no prob with them, caught some fish got snagged in some trees.

fishing user avatargman2 reply :

Dt's rock I love these cranks.  My go to crankbaits.  The Dt- 6 is my favorite in parrot and red craw.  Not to mention they have a really nice finish on them for a $6.00 bait I think.

fishing user avatarRattlinrogue reply :

My two crankbaits of choice are Normans and Rapala DTs.They are good looking baits that catch fish.I haven't noticed that they hang up any more than what is normal.IMO,if you're bass fishing with a crankbait, you're gonna hang up from time to time.

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

Ronnie- the DT's are excellent baits, but I hope you also have a Moonsault cb to try out this prespawn.  There really isn't any other crankbait like the moonsault, and when the water hits the 50's, this bait is hard to beat.  In the prespawn,  I'll throw a DLN or Rapala dt10 in the morning until the sun comes out and warms the water a few degrees.  At noon or after, I can head to some chunck rock main lake points or ledges near the mouths of creeks and wear them out with a cb250 or 200.  I reserve the 100 for pockets when the water temp is in the upper 50's.

fishing user avatarbass109 reply :

Shad_Master is right, on the box it says that the lip is weak.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

The DT's are great baits.  The Silver DT6 is my favorite.  I tend to loose more of the DT's than any other bait.  I am not sure why but I do get them snagged more than any other crank in my tackle box.  But that won't stop me from using them, they are a flat out great bass catcher.

fishing user avatarmike bat reply :

ok i was watching a show >>> linders angling edge .... the guys where fishing deep rock ,, using the dts .... they showed how if you felt like the bait was hanging up you could stop your retrieve and give the rod tip completely to the bait ( no preasure on the bait at all ) .... the dt will turn 180 while slowly floating back up .... rapala gave all dts this abilty ,,,, now it wont save every bait but it saved my olny dt a few times ..... once i was getting hung up in a tree ,,, gave the tip to the bait watched the bait float up just a little and slowly swam the bait outta the tree ..... another time she was hanging in some rock same thing .... so just a little heads up ... before you try this i suggest you try it in shallow water where you can see how the bait does this ..... stopp reeling and give the rod tip to the dt ... you will see what im talking about and hopefully save a few TOO.... good luck  ,,, and this olny works some times not all the time  ;D

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

I got one from a Mets fan in 2006 that I really like. ;)the bait runs true, catches fish, and has great action.  I'm going to be adding a few more to my arsenal soon.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Thats it rub it in Gman ;D

fishing user avatarGorgebassman reply :

I love the Dives To baits especially the sure sets they have always ran well out of the box and I have never broken the lip off of one yet.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

Rapala DT crankbaits?  To quote the Kool-Aid man, "Oh yeah!!"

fishing user avatarwvubassfan reply :

I have used the DT-6s some with good luck.

I was wondering what other depths have produced for you guys.

fishing user avatarMatt Jungblut reply :

the dt4's work great for me

i dont fish much deep water

my fav colors are bluegil,parrot,mustard,

fishing user avatarJigNBig reply :

if your gonna fish a shallow crankbait, fish a DT and your going to fish a deep diver, fish a Bomber Fat Free Shad or 8a

fishing user avatarBrad_Coovert reply :

The DT4 is a killer bait.  It is has been the best DT for me out of the series.

Yes, the lips can break.  Sometimes very easily.

Brad

fishing user avatarCyBasser reply :

Hi there,

Rapala DT are my go-to crankbaits. I have been fishing them extensively for years, never had any problems with them (like lip breaking).

All of my fishing is done from the shore, usually from rather steep shores, and both the DT10 and DT16 have performed well in a variety of colors. They are no more prone to snag than other crankbaits, they have strong vibrations, and can give you excitement even if bass refuse to bite with their water resistance! Another excellent variant that has worked exceedingly well for me is the DT7 flat with a large, square bill.

Use them and these crankbaits are bound to reward you!

fishing user avatarbubbler reply :

They are just like any othe crank but they a bigger so they work good in dark water where you need a biger profile.

fishing user avatarga_hawghauler reply :

I was at fishing expo at bps and they was a guy doing a demo on the dt series and i was impressed by how quick these got down to the strike zone. I havent had no more hang up with these than any other crank bait. IMO good bait

fishing user avatarValascus reply :

Rapala DT series cranks are by far my favorite crankbait. I do get snagged with them, but no more than with any other crank. Some of the areas I fish are just really snaggy...you gotta throw 'em in the nasty stuff if yer gonna get bit. My only real complaint is that Rapala doesn't seem to have any coffin billed cranks. They all have the rounded bill. I also only use the regular DT-series. I don't use the Sure-Set series. I have never tried them, but I can't justify paying that extra buck for hooks that looks like it's nothing but trouble as far as snags go.
