These were introduced in 09 and found a video of a review of them as well. And can find them for about $3 a pack of 6. Still on the fence though if they would work as great as that video.

I'm wondering how long they waited to feed those fish in that video before putting that softshell turtle in there. My fish will nip at my fingers, maybe we should make finger lures that look like plastic worms.

When you rig a beaver under a punch weight, I don't think the fish know what they are striking....when they hit it on the drop it could be anything so I don't think I would pick the Turtle over a beaver but hey, why not try it out? I would think in Ponds loaded with turtles it would probably make sense.

The Banjo minnow is an easy target for jokes, but put a picture of them in a Bass Pro Catalog Today ,and put them under a Main label, and they would sell even more than the Banjo minnow still sells today. Actually, take a look at the banjo minnow and many of the swimbaits of today look almost identical especially a few new ones that just came out.
They look like many of the segmented swiimbaits of today, and the lip hooking idea is not all that goofy since it is how many hook dropshots and split shot rigs, and the weedless hook is actually how I hook alot of my split shot rigs with worms etc. Considering this bait was made in the early 90's maybe late 80's, I can't think of any other soft segmented swimbait around at that time? I could be wrong, but I do not remember any in the Bass pro Catalogs I used to love when I was a kid.
Granted they use words like DNA, and other scientific terms and buzz words, but show me any new soft bait or scent that is not full of buzz words and scientific studies that show why fish prefer their brand over another. Everyone needs an angle to sell something and it is just the way it is.
Not sure why I am defending the Banjo Minnow but I guess my point is not all infomercials are jokes or scams. People invent a product, and often TV advertising is the best way to market a product to a target consumer or simply to get the most money for your product. I LOVE MY GEORGE FOREMAN GRILL and that started out as an infomercial....Now, let's talk about the Mighty Bite System......UV ANYONE?

I actually like the Banjo minnow and have caught quite a few fish with them...i wasn't sold by the scientific terms though...the action of the bat is d**n good .

I guess the Banjo Minnow is doing fine these days and if you look up fishing tackle on the Global site which just became a new IPO once part of Yahoo, it is the top seller, and is also a top seller on Ebay so obviously it works. If they needed a financial push, they could cally it the Shimmy Shad and put it under a new line of baits with a finesse worm, senko style bait, creature, and a craw, and we would have threads about all the awesome new bait from company xxx.

Bombshell turtles just work, especially on bedding bass. I generally rig them Texas style, with a heavy, pegged weight.
What any of this has to do with a Banjo Minnow, is beyond me.

Just curious, But do small turtles have soft shells at certain times of the year similar to crabs?

No relation whatsoever. Ken Daubert invented the minnow and is currently marketing the Clone Frogs.

geez....nobody is saying they are the same company just the marketing slogans are similar. And i guess Ken is losing out of some royalties because they don't mention him as the creator of the bait on the banjo minnow website.

I believe he sold it years ago. He still uses and recommends that sucky K hook, though.

the hook does suck....it was the first thing i replaced on my clone frogs.

I grabbed some of the Bombshell turtles last time I was at BPS. I've had my eye on them for years, but never pulled the trigger. Now can't wait to try them out in the spring. I think they'd do good on the rage rig.

Thanks for the answer, I didn't think turtles had soft shells, but I was thinking maybe they were like crawfish and went through changes during the year but one is a reptile and one is not so makes sense...
I would try the bombshell if handed to me, seems like a good idea, I have never opened up the gut of a bass so never really thought about turtles, but it makes sense I guess.

What is the clone frog? I am sure I can google it but is it something I need? Meaning, is a bit different than the norm, since I like to try new baits., The baitmonkey is all over me these days, and the equipment monkey, usually it's reels, but now it is rods which is even worse I think, I am never borrowing anyone else's nice stuff, it makes my stuff not so nice, or should say light....

It is definitely bit different than your normal frog. it utilizes a nose hook and the bait is pretty much free to swing around as needed. I have had some decent success with it. it also floats so it can be left to sit in a pocket and will never sink.

Cool looking frog, nice fish as well. Kind of looks like the old Bill Plummer Super Frog but with much better color and cool looking feet. I like it, floats, swings, Sold....Thanks for answering my question.

Turtles do shed, but one or a few scutes at a time. Their shell is made up of several scutes.
