Keitech Swing Impact FAT ? 2025

fishing user avatartrupp30 reply :

I am thinking of trying the 3.8" size as a swim jig trailer, and the 4.8" for my swimbaits. Anyone use them? If so, what are your thoughts, and what colors do you like? Thanks for the help.

fishing user avatarStarchalopakis reply :

Also curious if anyone drop shots them?

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I use them extensively, but not on a drop shot. The bait is designed for a moving presentation.

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

best swimjig trailer i have in my arsenal..... the tail really kicks something fierce even at the slowest speeds.

never used them on a dropshot myself.

fishing user avatarPennBass reply :

I like the 4.8" on a 6/0 Owner Beast Hook. Great action, especially when you pause it and it swims down to the bottom. Have also had great luck reeling it just fast enough so it wakes the surface. However, you sacrifice some durability for action, and short strikers can sometimes rip the tail off. In that case, you could just melt it down into a worm or use it as is for some other application.

Yes, I use these for the same reasons you listed and in the same sizes. Works perfect!

You want the slimmer and smaller swing impact or sexy impact.

fishing user avatarRyneB reply :

I love it as a swim jig trailer, I have heard of guys drop shotting them anddragging it around, not necessarily vertical jigging it straight up and down. I got my arse handed to me by my back boater in a tourney by a guy who was skipping a weightless Keitech under docks.

fishing user avatarJustinU1X reply :

Bluegill Flash is a must!

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

I personally just stick with the Kietech Swing Impact. Ive done just fine with them, especially with the price difference in the Fat Impact. But thats just my opinion.

fishing user avatartrupp30 reply :

Thanks for the replies. Bluegill flash is the color I been looking at most.

fishing user avatarAds7633 reply :

I use the 4.8in in houdini and green pumpkin. It works great with a slow swimming or stop and go retrieve. However, one day I lost my spinnerbait skirt and threw one of these on the spinnerbait instead of a skirt and absolutely killed them. Definitely the most productive day I've had with this bait.

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

I dig a 3.8 fat on a hornet underspin. Whatever color looks good to you is the right one to use.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

I generally fish the Fat version by itself, and the standard version on chatterbaits and swim jigs.

fishing user avatarHurricane reply :

I just picked some up at cabela's.. Can't wait to try them ..

fishing user avatarBrocephus Fishing reply :

I've used Keitech in both applications you are asking about. Liked them a lot. However, I've found Kicker Fish Bait Co.'s Tail Slapper to work just as effectively at a lower cost, causing me to lean towards them more.

Weird you posted this, I've been watching YouTube videos tonight and came across this review of the Keitech Swing Impact FAT -

Looks like a solid option!

fishing user avatarDye99 reply :

Excellent on swimbaits, but Ive found that the 3.8 does really well on chatter baits too.

fishing user avatarBassNBarry reply :

I've had very good success using different Zman trailers (love the MinnowZ in Redbone) on Zman Project Z and Elite Chatterbaits. One day in early December, I couldn't buy a strike using chatterbaits. I then tried a 4" Keitech Swing Impact on a swim jig and caught 3 bass in 10 minutes in the same area; first was over 5 pounds. After that, i also used the Keithech on chatterbaits with moderate success.  I just ordered the Keitech 4.8 Swing Impact Fat to use as a stand-alone swimbait; product has been back ordered from Tackle Warehouse, but expected to ship in about  a week.

fishing user avatartje0705 reply :

I had good success with these as swim jig trailers this summer in shad patterns. My only problem with them is that they are kind of expensive and very fragile.

fishing user avatartrupp30 reply :

What size and weight swimbait hook are you guys using with the 4.8, and the 3.8 size?

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Buckeye Swim Jig Heads:  http://www.basspro.com/Buckeye-Lures-JWill-Swimbait-Head/product/1111190501002/

1/4 or 3/8 on the 3.8; 3/8 or 1/2 on the 4.8

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

The J-WIll heads are very good, come in the right sizes, and have a good strong hook.

The 3.8" Fat Impact is my favorite swim jig trailer.

fishing user avatarfishwizzard reply :

I have been having great luck with both the Fat and normal Impacts.  The Fats are more expensive but they seem to last longer, so the price difference might be a toss up.  However, the Normals are far less of a pain to lug around.

I found this the other day, a chart of suggested hook sizes from Keitech.   They all seemed really small to me, but the downsizing really improved the action.

Allen,

How do you retrieve your swim jigs? I need to learn to fish this lure.

They are like a senko in that there is no real wrong way to fish them. Most of the time I am fishing them in shallow clear water so I can watch the bait. Honestly I just swim them around in a manner that replicates the prey I am trying to emulate. Just think of a swim jig as a bladeless spinnerbait.

My favorite store bought jig is the Omega Revelation Swim Jig. This jig has a lighter wire hook than most so I can fish it in clear water with 12lb Floro. It only comes in like 6 colors and I use Bluegill and Threadfin shad which are very similar in color to the jigs I posted above.

^This^ !! ...Good advice Bass'n Bro - I see suggestions to use a Fat Impact on a football jig and I'm like "why" ? when there are better ways to roll with this bait ! For me , I like a 3.8 or 4.3 Fat Swing Impact in Sight Flash , Blue Gill or TN. Shad using a Gamakatsu EWG 3/0 weighted hook in 1/16th or 1/8th oz. I like to fish it slow and steady and irregularly just kill it and let it drop with a twitch or two (ala Joe Cocker who made soft plastic  twitch'n  famous with his band : "Mad Bass & Englishmen" ...)
