Fishing long sleeve sun shirts 2024

fishing user avatarLEWITH reply :

Hey guys I'm looking for long sleeve sun shirts with spf protection that are reasonably priced. I don't want to pay 40 bucks for a huk logoed shirt.

What at suggestions do you guys have?

fishing user avatarmwh33 reply :

I have Huk, Cabelas, Columbia, Aftco. All have been great

Is the eye patch mandatory if you're fishing on a boat

Do they come in Extra Pudgy?

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

I only wear button-down, long-sleeve shirts (no polos).

Most of them are Columbia and Guy Harvey, I like them both.

After reading the comments I think you'd be better off sticking with the $40 shirt  or just use some spray on sunscreen?

fishing user avatarMumbly reply :

Take a look at Sierra Trading Post. They have spf clothing from the big brand names like Columbia at great prices.

I wear Magellan sun shirts from Academy. I find them for $10 pretty regularly.

fishing user avatarbasseditor reply :

I prefer short sleeve shirts and get sun sleeves. Mostly I use Columbia shirts and inexpensive sleeves called Hi Cool that you find on eBay for a couple of dollars.

I don't one like the jersey shirts because the collars don't cover well. Even with buffs, I get neck sun burn.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I can't stand anything on my arms in the summer. I use sunscreen.

fishing user avatartander reply :

I really haven't wore anything but Huk but I am sure others will probably work. I don't mind paying the price because you usually get what you pay for. To me the Huk shirt is really cool to wear. I don't seem to get as hot. I recommend wearing long sleeves but you can do what you want. If you get skin cancer cut off, you can afford a bunch of shirts.

fishing user avatarCTBassin860 reply :

walmart has them for like 7 bucks

Target for 15

I have been wearing long sleeved white or light colored shirts for years. I have at least a dozen of them that are just for fishing.  Some are heavy and some or very thin or linen, depending how warm it is in Minnesota when I go fishing. When I went out on March 28th, the day out after the official Ice Out on Minnetonka the high was 65 degrees. I pick most of them up at garage sales, thrift stores, Salvation Army or Goodwill, and never spend more than $3 on them. When I get a hook stuck in one, tear on or get one stained, its not painful to throw it away and grab another one.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Cabela's guide series SPF long sleeve shirts are a good value if they have them in stock in color and size you want. Columbia would be very similar at a higher price point. Keep in mind the SPF rating is when the shirt is new and reduces with each washing. Wearing a cotton long sleeve shirt isn't the same as SPF rated shirts.

Bingo.  Sierra Trading Post rocks for finding all sorts of stuff with crazy discounts, not just outdoor gear.

But I don't waanna be a pirate!

fishing user avatarRMax reply :

Don't forget a buff!  Especially if you believe that the smell of sunscreen causes fish not to bite! I am not really a believer in that because most plastics are so strongly scented nowadays I feel like the fish wouldn't be able to smell the sunscreen.

The Academy Magellan brand shirts are nice and have a good price.  I also found some Gander Mountain brand ones for around $15 that I like a lot.

fishing user avatarkingmotorboat reply :

I got my Magellan at academy for 24.99. Upf 20. I love it

fishing user avatarXpressJeff reply :

The Boss (Wife) got me one from Duluth Trading Company that is fantastic. I am not sure what she paid for it but it's extremely comfortable fabric and not restrictive at all. Pretty sure it wasn't cheap though.

I am a "Full Figured girl" however!

Very light, long-sleeved hoodie....I wear it with the hood up in over 100 degree weather and it is still quite comfortable.

fishing user avatar5fishlimit reply :

I was also in search of something, but when I stopped into a TJ Maxx/Marshall's store I scored an Under Armour Ridge Reaper Ninja hoodie for $24.99.  It's pretty awesome and has the buff integrated into the shirt, and also includes a handy zipped pocket on the back side of the shirt.  I think they normally retail for $99.

fishing user avatarMad Scientist reply :

I hate using sunscreen, so I wear Columbia PFG hoodies. They are a little pricey, but you can find them on sale from time-to-time for $30 or so. The non-hooded ones can be had for even less, but I prefer the hood. That with a baseball cap and a UV Buff, and I'm pretty well covered (no pun intended).

I wear the same style but it's the BPS brand (World Wide Sportsmam)

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

It's not a choice between long-sleeves and sunscreen,

it a choice between reliable protection and unreliable protection.

Sunscreen is only effective for a given period of time,

and that duration can be sharply reduced by contact with the arms and sweating.

Wearing long sleeves is far less inconveniencing than melanoma.

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

Columbia Men's Tamiami II are the best fishing shirts I've ever used and some of the most comfortable pieces of clothing in my closet. They'll run in the $25-30 range for some of the colors, and the prices often change.
