Jig Trailer Recommendations... 2024

fishing user avatarCC268 reply :

Ordering some Northstar Jigs tonight and want to get some good trailers. A lot of people are recommending Rage Tail Craws, but I feel like they would be too long and big? Do you guys use the Baby Craw or the Chunk? I currently use Netbait Paca Chunks, but a lot of people don't like those I guess. Just seeing what you guys recommend!

fishing user avatarLip 'em! reply :

Buy the rage craws and bite about a half inch of it off before you thread it onto the hook. It's much easier to downsize a full size craw to the desired length than it is to make a chunk longer! lol

fishing user avatarsarcazmo reply :

Depends how much action I want.

Rage trail products are great when you want a lot of action.  Sometimes I'll throw a chigger craw if I want less action and a bit smaller profile.

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

cant go wrong with rage craw!!!

fishing user avatarBass Junkie reply :

I personally really like the Net Bait chunks. They're reasonably priced, have a great action on the fall or swim, and if you can't find one in a color to match your jig.....  :laugh5:

As for trailers other than netbait, I'm digging the Berkley Havoc Rocket Crawand Yum! Craw Papi,as well as the Money Craw.

fishing user avatarJigMe reply :

In the fall, you want lots of actions from the trailer and no product out there can beat Rage craw. If it is dead winter, then I will use zoom chuck because I don't to slow down.

fishing user avatarjignfule reply :

Zoom's Fat Albert twin tails may work well for a smaller profile

fishing user avatarBrian Needham reply :

I use the rage craw and bite off whatever I need to get a certain length.

past that opinions vary and there are several pages worth of reading you can do on the boards via the search function.

fishing user avatarwhitwolf reply :

I like both a zoom trailer(super chunk and Jr.) and a R.I. Smallie beaver.

fishing user avatarBruce424 reply :

Zoom chunk/jr is the way to go. Slide it all the way up the shank for a smaller profile.

fishing user avatarJon G reply :

i like using havoc pit bosses as well as rage craws i tend to yo use pit bosses more cause they are cheaper and the have nice action but you should definitely use rage craws

fishing user avatarrockchalk06 reply :

When I want a lot of action in my trailer, I always go with a Rage Craw. If I want a more subtle action I go with either a Berkley 4" Crazy Legs craw with the antennas torn off or a Bass Assassins Pure craw. My hairs I go with a 3' crigger craw from Berkley or an Xcite baits chuck. I cut the bodies depending on how large or small a presentation I want.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

It depends on the lake and the time of year.  This time of year I start using a chunk instead of a craw.  The trailer doesn't have as much action, but that is what the bass seem to want.

fishing user avatarCTGalloway21 reply :

Baby D Bomb

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

When I want bulk.... I use beavers, when I want action I use paca craws, and when I want small and subtle I use Zoom critter craws.

fishing user avatarDylan L reply :

I like a rage chunk for my bitsy bug jigs

fishing user avatarSouthernjig reply :

I keep it very simple, smallie beaver or a zoom chunk. All my plastics are to or zoom

fishing user avatarJeziHogg reply :

Swim jig: Twintail menace with it threaded on the hook with the flappers vertically to make it look like a fishes tail.

Everything else, Netbait Paca Chunk

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

I've been using the Menace and Havoc Deuce a lot lately.

fishing user avatarRudy1922 reply :

How about a Baby Brush Hog? The Bass seem to like them where I fish at.

fishing user avatardreamertino reply :

I've seen baby brush hogs used as trailers never tried it personally though

fishing user avatarmichang5 reply :

I've landed one fish with a watermelon baby brush hog on a white/chartreuse chatterbait. Dunno if it was dumb luck though.

fishing user avatarRudy1922 reply :

i caught 3 today using a 3/8 oz Tungsten PB&J Jig with a Green Pumpkin Red flake Baby Brush Hog trailer but I just started using Jigs so I'm still learning what works best in my area.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

The rage chunk is awesome. I like the paca too. Don't overlook a yamamoto double tail or a zoom creepy crawler either.

fishing user avatarCC268 reply :

For now I bought a bunch of rage tail craws to match my jigs..I have some paca chunks too

fishing user avatarmichang5 reply :

Are you using the entire baby brush hog? Or did you cut/bite off a bit?

I cut a little off.

fishing user avatarNEjitterbugger reply :

Rage baby craws

fishing user avatarmichang5 reply :

I went to Dick's on Friday and picked up the following for my Siebert arky jigs, swimjigs, chatterbaits, and spinnerbaits:

- Rage craws in watermelon red

- Rage baby craws in green pumpkin

- Zoom chunks in green pumpkin

- Yamamoto double tail hula grubs in chartreuse

- more Gamakatsu 1/0 trailer hooks

Realized biting 1/2" off the full size craw makes it the same length as baby craw, but with bigger claws.

I got the Zoom chunks on a whim because they were significantly cheaper than Rage chunks. Not sure what they offer over the Rage I bought. The claws seem quite large given its profile.

I couldn't find any of the recommended single tails grubs. I found the Yama hula grubs, which looked like standard DT grubs, but with tentacles at top. I wanted the chartreuse color and figured I could trim the tentacles off.

While I got skunked yesterday, the pairings seemed to look good. I've written Michael Siebert for trailer and color suggestions for his fantastic looking bloody shad swimjig.

And I think I need to find some brown/PBJ for my PBJ arky. I hope this all works because it ain't cheap! :P

fishing user avatarcrazy cranker reply :

When I want to keep the profile smaller I just use a Yamamoto twin tail grub,  When I want a larger profile either a  Reaction Innovations smallie beaver or the larger sweet beaver.

fishing user avatarPrimus reply :

I'm not going to repeat what's been listed but here is another good option is the Xcite baits Raptor Tail Jr.

fishing user avatarpaul25 reply :

Rage chunks work good but i would have some rage craws for the bigger profile and just bite off the last section of the tail. The perfect plastics trailers by strike king and zoom super chunks are what i use if the fish won't hit the craws or in colder water.
