If I only had the option to take 3 baits for bass fising the 1st, sorry to break it to you guys but it would have to be any type of "stick" bait. This is a obvious because you can rig it in so many different types of profile & presentation either it be Wacky, Mojo, Shaky, Drop shot, Carolina, Taxes Rig, etc... I usually use the "Yum Dinger 5" Color: Green Pumpkin and or Black & Blue flake with a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG offset worm hook either weightless or bullet weighted with a Texas or Wacky Rig. (Why because it is my favorite finnese style rig either in open water or in thick cover. It Works like a charm, and it is my go to bait when everything fails). 2nd, would be a Suspending Jerk Bait. My favorite is the "Rapala X Rap XR12 4 3/4", 3/4oz." Color: Clown. (Why because of the versatility of the lure, the ability to cast far and it having a distinct Action that attracts bass; it suspends to depth of 4~8ft and you can jerk it, pause it, reel it slow or fast. And the color I chose seem to attract bass pretty well in both Clear and Dirty waters). 3rd, Last but not least I had to give it to the Finesse or Flipping Jig. I like to use a Jig and Craw method. Specifically the "Strike King Bitsy Bug or Flipping Jig 1/4oz. with a Strike King RageTail Craw" as a trailer. Color: of course black & blue and or Green pumpkin???? (Why because I can drag it, bounce it off the bottom between rocks and I can throw it in the thickest covers). Like everyone I catch the biggest bass when it comes to using jigs and the reaction of hooking a bass is quite satisfying ???? What are your Top 3 favorite baits and why would you recommend them?????
Are the ponds, lakes, rivers, etc still frozen in Virginia because this is a winter thread, it gets asked each year. But if I had to answer here's the list...
Coldwater- Carolina Rig with a hollow body frog (work it very slow)
Mid temperatures- An A-rig rigged with buzzbaits
Warm Water- Bull Dawg (big lures = big bass???)
Drop shotting a pink buzzbait

Yer so 2012. We're Carolina rigging inline spinners up here. That's where it's at!
When does spring start?
Get at me when y'all can punch an 8" Hudd! ????
didn't want to divulge this but take the blades off a spinnerbait and run tandem shad raps instead. crazy action!
3 baits? All you need is a Whopper Plopper! The question is one 90, one 110, and one 130? or one size in 3 colors?
Three baits, Senko, mushroom head, and a spinnerbait.

Hey don't count anything out! My buddy caught a five pounder on a skirtless spinnerbait with a 12" bubble gum worm trailer on a day when nothing would work
The rig was officially named the spinnerworm

Hahahahaha, Whopper Ploppers are great but you can't expect it to be a year round bait and catch bass in the winter when they are lethargic and in the deepest part of the water.????
Green pumpkin senko, hollow body frog, spinnerbait or jerkbait.

Oh yeah I almost forgot about the Mushroom Jig By Z-Man with a Finesse TRD. Those are great ????

Never tried this... I am definitely gonna have to try this out next time I go out! ????
Top 3 for me have to be a 5" stickbait in a green pumpkin. A 5" swimbait in a white color. And a whopper plopper in any natural color

Nah, just in general throughout the year baits. I just like finesse type tactic fishing more then power fishing. I would of included any type of squarbill cranks but I could only choose 3 so ????

Only three baits?
Two Senkos and a Ned Rig. ;-)
Tight lines,

You didn't get the memo? That's out. We are now wacky rigging five 10" power worms on under spin heads with an umbrella rig.
Senko. Spinnerbait. Frog.
1. Hand Grenade
2. Ultrasonic Electro Fisher
3. Seine
1. Topwater
2. Topwater
3. Topwater
All of you are missing out. I have been texas rigging a whopper plopper.

I can't tell if this is a joke or it's something ppl actually do that can catch fish?.... ????
Watermelon green tube, Ned rig, 4.5 inch paddle tail swim bait on a 3/16 oz darter head jig.
I was lurking and found a thread I could participate in:
1 - 5 Inch Green Senko
2 - #5 Meeps Spinnerbait
3 - Cotton Cordell Wally Diver
1) The Banjo Minnow
2) Chuck Wollery's Moto Lure
3) The Budweiser Beer Can Crankbait
or just a simple 1/2 oz Spinnerbait and Texas Rigged Tube

Ok, we can see you like topwaters, the question is ..... which topwaters ? I like the Jitterbug.
I find these “ if you COULD HAVE” threads disconcerting, why ? “If you could”, dang kido, like if I’m not in the position that I have only one bait, I’ve got thousands ! The proper way to ask is: “if you are forced to”
So, if I’m forced to choose, out of the thousands baits I own, only three which ones would I pick :
1 1/2 lipless crank
2 3/8 oz single Tennessee blade spinnerbait
3 I might hate them but I recognize that they are extra productive, 4” stickbait ( “senko” )
White Grub
Natural Colored Medium Diving Crank
Black and Blue Jig
Kind of plain, but covers what I would need if there were only 3.

If the lure body was made of cork or some kind of floating plastic I bet I could clear a pond of stocker trout in a single afternoon with a presentation like that.
Senkos, Keitech Swing Impact FAT, Gunfish.

I do this too, but replace the front treble hooks with more spinnerbaits.
Jig
Ned rig
bladed jig
But I'd probably quit fishing if I could only use 3 kinds of baits.
Spook
Fat Max ribbon tail
Rage Bug

Good selection of lures, especially the lipless crankbait which is a very good multi species lure. The jitterbug is a very good topwater lure, especially at night. Yes I like fishing with topwaters to say the least and its the type of lure I have the most confidence in. I am also confident in using swimbaits, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, crankbaits( both lipped and lipless), soft plastics, jigs, basically most general types of lures for bass. Maybe that is what's more important in bass fishing, having confidence in the lure you are using, that to me is much more important than what lure someone uses, since what works for me might not work for you and vice versa. Besides I would quickly get bored of chasing little green fish that barely weigh 10 pounds in most places if I could only fish with 3 lures for the rest of my life. Variety is the spice of life and I enjoy tricking bass to bite whatever lure I feel using on a particular day.
Hmm great answers yall
but,
1 5" senko green pumpkin
2 1/2 Lipless Crankbait in any crawfish pattern
3 Frog- booyah pad crasher cut skirt (:e

We have this thing called “summer” down here and the poor little trouts self-poach in the streams and ponds, so we have to add more every winter.
It would save a lot of trouble all around if the state would just set up little food trucks along the bank and sell us smoked trout on a stick.

For the record. I wasn't Joking. @riverbasser knows what I'm talking about.
1. Drop shot rigged with a Rebarb hook and a T-Rigged Roboworm or with a wacky presentation using an Owner hook;
2. A 3/0 60 degree bend hook with an Owner CPS (medium size) rigged with a 4 or 5" Keitech Swimbait, either a Shad Impact or Easy Shiner;
3. SPRO topwater frog.
Jig and craw
Bladed Jig
1/2 oz lipless crankbait

Jeez.... ????
Texas-rigged creature bait
Lipless crank
Zara Spook
(If I'm being honest these three are going to catch the most fish for me year round, but I would desperately want a 4th pick because I love tandem spinners. They just aren't as adaptive as the lipless crank).

I've been actually using the 3" White Grub by Yum and it's Awesome! Really Good for muti-species too ????
