I'm thinking about the Bomber Badonk a Donk. Anyone use it w/ success? How easy does it walk? What about the LC Sammy?
I think the easiest walking bait is a Zara Spook. Just swap out the hooks.
Owner Zip N Ziggy is very easy to walk and a excellent lure.

I agree. The spook Jr. Is the easiest of my baits to walk.
I haven't caught anything with the Badonk A Donk, but it walks like it's on a treadmill.

Agree. Don't forget to change the hooks. Bone color kills it
rapala skitterwalk is the easiest one for me but really it isn't that hard after a little practice.
I think the Duo Realis Pencil 110 is really easy to walk. You can't go wrong with a Super Spook Jr though.
Everyone has a diff. opinion which walks easiest...but have to agree spook jr. best to start with...i use kvd's now cause i like the way it spits water
Who is doing the walking?
I have only used the spooks but they were easy to walk when I started learning
I don't know. But I'm not paying $10-20 for something I can do easily for $7-8. Spook, Spook Jr & Chug'n Spook Jr, baby!

Spook has one that spits water too. Chug'n Spook and Chug'n Spook, Jr. I have the junior in bullfrog pattern. It's a big fish bait.
Duo Realis Pencil gets my vote.

Rapala Skitterwalk and Rebel Jumpin' Minnow are the easiest to walk for me.
The old Excalibur Spit'n Image is my favorite; I have to buy them on the auction site to find them though.
The spook is easy to walk but the rapala skitterwalk is as good a walker and I can really bomb that thing
Rapala xrap walk if you can still find it or spook.
That said I still prefer the sammy, even though it doesnt really walk in the traditional sense. The erratic way it spits, glides, walks and some times even pops under the surface better mimics the organic way a bait fish moves IMO. A true confidence bait. They just get bit better FOR ME. It's one of the more expensive baits that's actually worth it.
Paycheck the one and repoman. That being said spooks work great also. I just get bit more on (the one).
The plain old spook walks as easy as anything IMO. Never owned any high end baits like a Vixen or Repoman though so can't compare it to those. The bigger spooks and sammy style baits are easier to walk for sure though.
Gunfish and Lunker Punkers for me. That said, once you really get a feel for walk the dog baits they all are easy to work

I must have had a defective Punker, that was the hardest bait to walk I've ever owned I think other than a tiny bait like a Zara Pooch. Once it was walking it wasn't bad, but getting it to start was terrible. It was one of the injected baits though, not one of the wooden ones so maybe that had something to do with it.
Heddon Zara Spook or Strike King Sexy Dawg are good choices
I've got a couple of the Spooks in different sizes and I think my KVD Sexy Dawg walks a bit easier for me. I loved it and just lost it on my last trip. Now I'll have to replace it. If I caught a 100 fish on that one lure I wouldn't be surprised.
I wouldn't be worried about which one walks best...not that difficult to walk one. Now which one catches giant bass the best? Now that's a good question! Zara spook has stood the test of time in both categories.
Spook Jr. and Jumpin' Minnow but lately all I've used is a Sammy.

I've been throwing a Sexy Dawg Jr lately but have'nt had a strike. It does some pretty walking though.
I havent used many walking baits but the Spook is very easy to make walk. Use a 5.5 foot pistol grip rod . The short rod and handle makes it a lot easier .
another vote for the spook, but the megabass giant dog x is a killer bait that is super easy to walk too.... just far more expensive than the plain old spook.
i felt that a sammy was the hardest to walk... i could never do it right for some reason.
Just started using a Sammy the last few weeks....it walks like a champ, to be sure....but I'm not certain I like that it pauses vertically...might be great, but I haven't had a hit on the pause like I do sometimes with spooks....maybe I missed it mentioned above, but the clear spook is my favorite....when I first got it many years ago, I thought it was a gimmick or a toy....but it gets more hits per cast than any other walking bait I have.
LOL...I didn't see BB's post when I was typing mine....I think the Sammy I was referring to had been yours previously, Buzz...I love the way it walks....
Sexy dawg walk easiest in my experience. They basically walk themselves. Yozuri makes good ones too. The lc Sammy's didn't walk very well for me but they sure are pretty.
They are all easy but just go with the spook and spook Jr. sharpen the hooks and be done, replace them with Gammakatsus if you are fishing them around shallow rock. If you have buoyant line and the right loop knot it should only take you about 15-20 minutes to learn how to walk it. Learning when and where to throw it is a whole different deal.

i had just broken them in to the point of useful for you.... i'm just a sucker for that LC MS American Shad pattern..... had to give it a try.
Zara spook and the Yamamoto Tate pencil
Duo Pencil is the easiest in my opinion. Great bait too!!
Gunfish has my vote for easiest/best. Sammies are good but they like a quick, constant cadence. It sits straight down on the pause and getting it to smoothly start back up is hit or miss. I catch a lot of fish on a Crack Blue Sammy 100 during Fall though when they're hitting that retrieve.
I never really had a problem with walking baits but my buddy has had a difficult time keeping them going. So, based on his input I'll say the discontinued Yo-Zuri Banana Boat and the Lucky Craft Sammy, my buddy can work both of those baits fine.
Take your choice, Sammy or Spook.
What you call a "spook" dates back into 1920's, the Heddon Zaragosa surface lure isn't a natural walk the dog lure, you must learn the cadence to walk a spook. The Super Spook with hanging hooks is easier to walk, similar to a Sammy. I mentioned the Zip N Ziggy, overlooked lure that walks without angler skill, sits tail down, has a internal sliding weight and casts like a bullet. If you are a Spook angler, try it.
Tom
If you can't walk a Spook, give it up. Sexy Dawgs are pretty easy too. You can walk most anything once you get the action down
Walk the dog on top.
But hold the rod tip down and reel. I call it "dive the dog". It runs erract under the water going side to side crazy. You can see the strike.

Sorry to hear about yout punker experience. Maybe it was a defective one or something. What size was it? They definitely take a little practice since they are bigger than the walking type baits most are used to
Super spook and super spook jr. Easiest bait to walk, its cheap, I know some replace the hooks ive never had a problem with them. Its been around for 80 years for a reason!
The yo zuri zz walker is the easiest that I have personally tried. It is easier than a sammy and spook for me.
I find that the Sammy walks best for me. I got better at walking stick baits once I got gear that works for me. Current favorite is an old MItchell Fulcrum, 5'9" MH straight handle bait casting rod. I use a 200 size Curado or a Calcutta 200 TEGT reel, 14 or 17 mono. I use this same rig for poppers. I find that with longer rods, doing the sharp downward pop, I smack the rod tip into the side of the boat too often. Anyway, that's what works for me.
Dog-walking is possible with most any lure, just be sure that there's some 'line-slack' Before & After each twitch.
The proper cadence creates the illusion that rod is a drumstick and the hull is a drum ;-))
Topwaters with a heavy tail-weight practically zigzag by themselves, a good example is the Boze ZZ Walker.
Roger
Exactly Roger!
I'll "walk the dog" with a Spook, Torpedo, Pop-R, or soft bodied frog. Like someone mentioned I'll use the same rhythm with subsurface lures like a fluke, Senko, or even a Rogue.
Rarely do I want these lures going in a straight line & even more so when others in the area throwing the same lures!
