How many jigs do you buy at a time? 2025

fishing user avatarwaymont reply :

I consider myself mostly a jig fisherman, I will T-Rig, top water and other stuff of course, but I love to fish jigs.

I tend to use limited colors like black/blue, green/purple, and brown/greens. Swimjigs a shad pattern and a bluegill pattern.

My question is when you buy jigs do you lay out the dough and get a large grip, or buy them one or two at a time as you lose them?

I spent around $150 during the last TW sale, mostly on jigs, and I'm still good for the rest of the season and beyond.

I think I prefer having them around, and saving $, instead of buying a few at a time.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I like Siebert Outdoors and generally buy a dozen at a time.

I normally by smaller quantities, mostly to replenish my stockpile. In recent years, I've cut down on the amount of tackle I carry, but not on my inventory. For this reason, I'm not timid about the cost of the jigs I purchase, but prefer to get the most bang for the buck and Mike at Siebert Outdoors offers both a great assortment of styles that are reasonably priced.

fishing user avatarTodd2 reply :

It's been a different year for me. The T-rig and C-rig have been my 1 - 2 punch. Havent hardly touched my jigs. Most other years I grab a few at a time as I lose them.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I usually buy 2 or 3 at a time depending on how many I have stored up. Another factor is the brand of jig, and if it on sale or not.

fishing user avatarriverbasser reply :

I use about 6 different jigs in 3 different sizes. Anytime I get down to 5 of any one size/color I reorder. This is normally once a season. Seiberts brush jigs come through cover so well I dont lose many. Even had to buy a hook sharpener i had some so long

fishing user avatarDens228 reply :

I usually buy about 10 or so at a time. I only use two different types of jig, two sizes each.  Three colors each.

But I have a bunch of each.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

I just ordered 30 yesterday from Siebert Outdoors - 10 grasshopper brush jigs, 10 black/blue brush jigs, 5 grasshopper dredge jigs, and 5 black/blue dredge jigs.  I typically make this size of order about half the time.  I usually order every 3 to 6 months, though I sometimes need to order more often.  I have one lake that I fish where the bottom is covered in wood and brush.  I can easily lose 3 jigs in a half day of fishing there.  If I fish it much I can go through jigs pretty quickly.

My football jigs last much longer because I only occasionally have the opportunity to fish rocky lakes where I use those.

fishing user avatarSphynx reply :

Depends on who's asking, if your reading this honey, I don't buy any jigs, because we agreed I have enough...lol

On a serious note I prefer to pick them up in bulk if possible, on sale from TW or whoever has a great deal on them, I am fishing some sort of jig almost all day whenever I'm out fishing, excepting the early morning and the late evening...I go through enough that it's worth my time to keep some on hand.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I buy about 8-10 a year.  I don't tend to fish them as much as I use to.  I got burnt out fishing with a guy a couple years ago.  I would tournament fish with him about once a month and all he would fish was the same jig and trailer that he would pitch straight into the bank and the boat was about 10-15 feet from shore.  He would set the trolling motor at one speed, not turn it off for anything, pitch that thing like a thousand times and catch only a few fish.  It drove me crazy but I do fish jigs with success from time to time.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I don't buy them, but when I'm making them, I'm typically making myself 10-20 at a time. I usually make some every couple of months.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Depends on how many I lose ????

I like to keep at least a half of dozen of each, sometimes I can go 3-4 trips & not lose a single one. Sometimes I can lose 4-5 a day.

Especially when you're throwing em on braid, cause ya aint breaking that off ya gotta cut it.

Now I gotta buy jigs & line!  ????

fishing user avatarSteveo-1969 reply :

In my local river from April to October I'm fishing a jig more than any other presentation and I lose them frequently to the rocky snaggy bottom. I buy in bulk during the winter and hope they last. This past winter I bought 25 jigs and I only have 5 left. Uh oh.....

Yesterday I was throwing swim jigs on braid/leader and had a a mystery knot in my spool. My jig went flying when my leader broke. I thought I had a great cast, like 300 feet. Not the case.

My current Upper Potomac record is 26 jigs in one day! Since I make them it doesn't sting as much for cost but still adds up.

Four.  It's my lucky number.

Holy moly! I believe it though. I think my record is 6 lost jigs in one day, but that's because I'm usually wading and only carry 6 in my small tackle bag.

fishing user avatar12poundbass reply :

I just started jig fishing particularly pitching to lay downs. The amount of jigs you guys are losing some days worries me. I’m loving pitching a jig, but I might have to get a second job after reading your posts.

fishing user avatarLog Catcher reply :

I usually buy D&L jigs. They come in plastic bags stapled 10 to a card. If it is a color really like I will buy the whole card. If it is a color I just want to try I may only buy 3 or 4.

I heard years ago, "if ya aint losing jigs, ya aint putting em in the right place!".

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

I make my jigs 100 at a time because I buy hooks in 100 qty ounce a year.

When I buy jigs it's for something specific I don't make and minimum would be 3 each to check it out , never start out fishing with 1 of anything.

fishing user avatarPourMyOwn reply :

I start off by purchasing two or three, if I like the style then I buy the mold and make my own.
