Crank Baits 2024

fishing user avatarDFrench97 reply :

I'm going to buy some more crank baits soon.  I'd throw them near docks for largemouth with a rocky bottom and 3-6 ft depth.  What would you recommend me buy?

Thanks

Good enough to win The Classic. Another suggestion is the Norman Fat Boy (Redear)

fishing user avatarVolboy reply :

200 bandit is a good, inexpensive crankbait. Also for banging around shallow cover in the warmer months, a square bill like the SK 1.5 is a solid choice. This time of year a # 5 or #7 Shad Rap is tough to beat too.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

Strike King KVD 1.5 square bill......someone had to say it.

fishing user avatarDFrench97 reply :

Thanks for all the replies!  I'll keep Norman, Bandit, Rapala, and Strike King in mind.

fishing user avatardfris reply :

KVD 1.5  In the 6ft range I don't know a better lure to be honest. I have tried them all, not saying they are not good lures, but it seems that anything that has kvd on it just plain out catch's fish.

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

KVD 1.5s all day!!! Swear by them

fishing user avatarSpencerLittle reply :

Spro fat john and little john. The kvd 1.5's are awesome too

Silent ones work the best for me. I have 2 rattling ones in my go to color that I use for murky waters

All of the kvd baits I've seen are silent. They make a bait that is similar called the 4s. It is another very good bait. You can also find the 4s with trokar trebles hooks which is a big plus for me.

Well, coming from the fact that i am not the biggest squarebill guy, i mainly throw the biggies if im gonna throw a squarebill. But, i have used the Cranky M a few times at small ponds/golf course ponds and i have caught a few. My favorite color is Aurora Chartreuse shad, Kinda like a sexy shad color. But yes, it is a good bait! And yes they go about 6-8 foot depending on witch model you get. Although i havent tried the Red Craw color yet in that model i bet it would work great throwing it against the shore line and giving it a nice slow retrieve with small pauses! I have had one friend bring the idea of putting suspend dots on it to give it more of a crawfish presentation on the shore. Haven't tried it yet but doesn't mean it isnt a good idea!

fishing user avatarCast_And_Blast reply :

Just gonna reintegrate the KVD 1.5. My friend caught his PB an 8.5 liber on one last summer.

fishing user avatarCrankinstein reply :

I def agree with the KVDs and DT6s for standard cranking. To the post above me I also caught my personal best on a KVD but it was a 1.0 and strangely enough it was also an 8.5er, Theres a pic of it in my gallery. I've also used that cranky M and I think its a solid lure as well. I would also recommend the Luck E Strike Rick Clunn series cranks, they are awesome. The RC freak jr has the most amazing action I've ever seen from a crank bait, it has a "deep diving square bill" and is an absolute fish catching machine(I had two 30+ fish days using just that lure). I just placed an order for some Duo Realis M65s which I've heard are supposed to be pretty good, I will let you guys know how they are after I fish them later this month.

I was messing around at my pond the other evening with a new reel. I had already went around the lake with a crappie jig without a bite I figured they weren't biting took the 1.0 out of the box tied it on a preceded to catch 10 in half an hour. I picked up an extra to put in my panic box if I need a limit in a tournament.

fishing user avatarCrankinstein reply :

That's awesome! That little KVD 1.0 is quite the lure, It has a special place in my tackle box. I really like the chrome sexy shad color.

What's great about it is even though it's small it still has enough weight to be able to throw on a baitcaster and has great hooks. hard combo to find in a bait that small.im hoping it will really shine when the bass are schooling on small shad and it's hard to catch them with anything else

How much does size matter on these crankbaits? I know everyone is talking about the kvd 1.5s. I have a bunch of KVD 2.5s at the moment in varying sexy shad variations and bluegill patterns. I'm trying to get into crankbait fishing more this year to put another tool in my box for searching water more efficiently.

fishing user avatarWbeadlescomb reply :

I prefer the 1.5/100 size

I generally try to match the shad size which can vary depending on time of year and what lake your on.
