Best Treble Hooks? 2025

fishing user avatarbknap reply :

What brand of treble hooks do you guys use when you switch out the hooks on baits? I was thinking of trying Mustad or Owner hooks but not sure what to try. Any suggestions?

Thanks

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

Whatevers not rediculously priced.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Owner Stinger ST-31 or VMC Inlines on most cranks

fishing user avatarmoguy1973 reply :

I started using the Mustad KVD short shank wide gap hooks on mine.

fishing user avatarBass Junkie reply :

Mustad KVD Elite trebles are the best I have used. The only downside is the price.

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

Owner stingers!

Owner Stinger 36.........http://www.ownerhooks.com/treblehooks.htm

fishing user avatarflipin4bass reply :

Owner Stingers...and if you can hold off until Memorial Day you can get them on sale at Tackle Warehouse or Bass Tackle Depot.

fishing user avatarWar Eagle 44 reply :

I hate to fall right in line with most everyone else here but I mostly use either the Mustad KVD 1X short 2X strong trebles or Owner ST-41 2X trebles. I find the Owners to be a little sharper and stick fish a bit better when they aren't just crushing the bait but on the flip side I find the Mustads to be more weedless and they stick fish just fine. Most of my square bills has Mustads and most of my deep divers have Owners. I don't have problems with fish throwing either of these hooks.

Just go to the website of the bait in question and they should have hook sizes for each bait there.

Size 4 is my most popular then 6.....It just depends on what you use the most. Either size it up with the existing or do what FlyFisher said.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

VMC inlines or short shanks. I was thrilled when my local Cabela's started carrying #3 VMC short shanks, switched over a TON of #4's to #3 short shanks. They also had a bunch of Owner Stinger #6's and #4's on sale for $1.88 a pack, key word is they had a bunch :eyebrows:  now I have a bunch :respect-059:

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

My crankbaits all get the Mustad KVD 1x strong, 2x short triple grips. Deep divers get replaced with the stock size on the rear, and one size up on the front. For example, a Stike King 6xd comes with #2's I go with a #2 on the rear, and a #1 on front. Squarebills and lipless baits I stick with the stock size. With topwaters and jerkbaits, I am not married to any hook. I try to replace them with a hook of similar wire gauge, and shank length to keep the bait balanced and doing what it's supposed to do. It changes from bait to bait, some times it will be a Mustad, or a Gamakatsu, or VMC, etc....

fishing user avatarLunker7 reply :

Mustad, Owner, Eagle Claw, Gamakatsu, their all good. Just like LMG said, anything that isn't priced too high.

fishing user avatarPondBoss reply :

KVD's or VMC Barbarian sizes vary

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

As long as they are cheap, strong and sharp, that = Eagle Claw.  I use #6 in 3x and 4x for 4's thru 3/0.

fishing user avatarSundance reply :

I use the #2 mustad KVD 1x short 2Xstrong triple grips on my kvd 1.5s and 1/2 oz res.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

I buy the VMCs because they are cheaper than others. But I'm kinda like everybody else..I'm not stuck on many brand.

fishing user avatarTheKingFisher reply :

I'm looking to change out some treble hooks on a few squarebills and lipless cranks.  I've got some with round and others with ewg, does it really matter what I replace them with?

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

You will hear both sides. John crews did a video on it. I like the round bend, but i have some of the kvds and they are good.

fishing user avatarTheKingFisher reply :

Thanks, Teal.  I understand that everyone will have a preference.  I was really trying to ask if they are more or less interchangeable?  Can I replace a ewg with a round bend and vice versa?  Does it affect the lure much?  Hopefully I posed the question better. :)

fishing user avatarWar Eagle 44 reply :

As long as the two hooks ( the original and replacement ) are close in size it doesn't affect the lure at all. Say if the stock ones are #4 you should replace them with #4's, round bend vs EWG doesn't matter in my opinion. One thing though about the KVD trebles is since the shank is so short you can usually go up one size and not affect the lures action. Say if you had regular shank round bend #4's stock you can safely use a Mustad KVD 1X strong 2X short #2 treble.

fishing user avatarTheKingFisher reply :

Thanks, War Eagle.

fishing user avataralexczarn reply :

I use Owner ST36 trebles. http://www.***.com/Owner_Stinger_Treble_Hook_Black_Chrome_ST-36/descpage-OST36BC.html

fishing user avatar1234567 reply :
