Wilderness Systems Ride 115 Angler Kayak 2025

ive been looking at getting a kayak for fishing and want to get a sit on top and i saw the wilderness systems 115 in my b.a.s.s magazine and it looks pretty nice and not super expensive my question is does anyone have one? if they do how do they like it and is it easy to stand up in? im 5'11 and about 140#

You'll have no problem standing in it, once you gain confidence in it's secondary stability. There's a bunch of kayak bassin' videos you might want to check out on youtube that feature this boat. Chad Hoover put them together, and he's standing in one. He's not a small man, either.

what type of yak do you have? the thing i like about the ws is the over size of it just about 12ft since i have a jeep that can easily be put on my roof do you have any suggestions im not trying to break the bank either but since i fish a lot of crik small lakes and river i feel its a better investment then a jon boat

I run a few different boats. I work part time guiding and selling boats. My current boat is a Prowler Big Game. A Ride 115 will be my next, having spent significant time in one.

i watched some videos on youtube of the ride 115 and alls i can say is wow they seem really stable and very spacious lots of room for gear luckily i have all winter to save up what kind of attachments would you think i should add since it has those trax things aside from rod holders what things would you put on it?

Start with a couple rod holders, and add as you go. Look up my bud Luther's Yakattack Gear as well. Lots of attachment options, and he's a true "inventor/genius."

Shallow, I use a pole through the scupper. Deep, a light grappling anchor in rocks, and a nave style in all else.

what about in a crik or river with some current not fast or swift? it varies from 3ft up to 7-8 feet and one more question sorry for all the questions just thought id ask someone knowledgeable as for tackle storage do you use a milk crate or something else?

Ride would be ideal in a tight quaters of a creek. Milk crates work great. You can zip tie vertical rod holders to them as well.

The only negative to the Ride 115 is the weight, 76 lbs.

Most of the more stable boats are on the heavier side due to the hull designs which is where your stability comes into play. I have a coosa and that things heavier than my commander 120.

The Ride and the Coosa are heavy beasts, but great fishing platforms. Save up extra for a good rack system if your gonna car top it.

When I mentioned the negative of the weight, I was mainly thinking of paddling it, not transporting it.

Hi there... I also just put a deposit down on a 2012 Ride 115. I think it's a great boat, and I don't think it would be a bad purchase for anyone looking for a fishing kayak who doesn't have the availability of demo boats.

*However*... If you have the chance to get to a shop and paddle a few boats for comparison, you should. I can tell you that you'll be surprised how many little things you'll notice sitting in a boat that - given the option - will impact your decision re: what kayak to purchase. So, if you can, you really should do yourself the favor of a demo before you make a purchase. Price may still ultimately influence you to purchase one boat over another, but you'll know what you are getting and giving up for that cost.

FWIW... It's a good time to buy as the main fishing manufacturers have updated the popular boats for 2013. So, there are closeout deals on 2012 stock.

One last recommendation... I've heard a lot of people who bought the anglers but, in hindsight, wish they had purchased a 'vanilla' boat (for less $$) and outfitted it later to suit their own preferences. You may, for example, decide you really want a different kind of rod holder mounted somewhere completely different. Again, YMMV, but something to consider.

sadly i only have one place locally to me that sells the ws and they just sold the last one and they have other fishing kayaks but they are also at least 500 more for decent looking sot but i did notice prices are way down due to new models but i asked a guy who worked there who fishes from kayaks a lot he said he has the ride 115 and loves it especially for the waters we fish around my area and lastly since i work part time and i have a cold pa winter coming up my fishing will drop and i was planning on saving up for the following spring i would love to get a hobie but thats like a down payment on a new car

Depending on what's near you, there are kayak sellers/outfitters that will ship the boats to you - or, at least, to an air terminal near you.

I read in a review somewhere that this person found it awkward when getting in and sitting down in the Ride 115. Any ideas what he may have been referring to? Is there anything odd about the seat height/location? Thanks.

Hi Jim,I bought the ride 115 back in early may of this year.I have had no problem getting in and sitting down in the ride 115 and i am 51 and weigh in at 190#..Nothing odd about seat/height location either.If you search reviews on line it will be tough to find a complaint about the ride.My only complaint is i wish i was retired so i could use it every day..

Then they will probably have a hard time with ANY sit on top.

Would the Ride 115 be considered a "dry ride" for someone weighing 240 lbs? Would water be coming up thru the scuppers if not plugged? Thanks.

Should be fairly dry, though it is a sit on top, and you invariably get wet. I wear dry suit in colder temps. Somewhere there is footage on Youtube of Chad Hoover standing in a Ride115. He is not a small man. Look for the kayak Bass Fishing channel, and you'll find it. Chad helped design the 115, and is a friend of mine.

Thanks. I'm talking about water coming up thru the scupper holes due to my 240 lbs. if not plugged. That shouldn't be a problem?

I believe that was a big improvement over the Ride 135, so it shouldn't be an issue.

went to a local outfitter that is the only person in 75 miles that sells ws and alls i can say is love at first sight seat is great shape size everything is so nice about it i cant wait for spring to get my hands on one and the 2012 ones are under a grand now i think i found my new favorite toy
