This guy's better. Way better: http://www.chonday.com/Videos/trailerghu4
LOL ~
They had a little secret though . . . .
But passing people while backing the trailer ~ that's the best !
I wish I could have seen their faces . . . . .
A-Jay
That's pretty good.
Looks like my Dad trying to move the boat out of the driveway. He says its got to be easy if I can do it. I usually let him struggle before offering my assistance.
Not bad, although it still doesn't detract from them cheating the whole entire world about their diesel emissions
In Virginia Beach, I get a ticket if I park my boat in front of my house. Because there IS no other place at my home, I keep my boat at my daughter;s house. The first time I did it I took my son, who was about 12 or 13, with me. In one pass I backed the trailer down a one lane gravel drive about 70-80 feet and into a single car garage with a minimal opening. My son's words were, "Whoa, Dad, you've got skills."
I can still remember when I was nervous about backing up a trailer, but those days are gone
This is how to do it:
My friend who taught me how to drive and backup with trailer said when he was doing lawn care work he could parallel park his pickup and trailer.

I actually sorta like that they did what they did.
If you give me a test and tell me what the questions are gonna be...you shouldn't be surprised if that's what I study for.
Never had much trouble backing a trailer until I had to back a trailer using mirrors only.As long as I can turn and look I do fine but 1 boat ramp had a steep angle and it was a friends truck and boat.I couldn't see where the trailer was so I tried using the mirror and found that I must be somewhat dislexic.

I'll put it like this, they cheated tests to look better in your eyes so you can buy their product. Now you're lied to being promised a dirty fuel that's suppose to be burned/used cleaner. Cheating the test is half of it, they cheated the consumer too, they sold a product that couldn't deliver what they said it would.

Yeah...but I don't buy their products...
I wonder how many people bought VWs solely because of their claimed emissions? A wild guess is less than 1 in 1,000.
I don't mean to sound even remotely anti-environment...I do a lot of work to preserve it...
...but I am generally in favor of anyone who thumbs their nose at the government.

I still work in lawn care, I can vouch for this. F250 with an 8 foot bed and a 14 foot double axel box trailer.

I am just the opposite. I have to use the side mirrors, looking around screws me up. I use to work for a power company. I learned how to back a line truck up with a 60 ft pole on a trailer and had to use the mirrors, no choice.
i bought a jet ski trailer to haul my kayak around last summer and while i am no expert on backing up a trailer, backing up a trailer with a total length of about 12' is no easy task lol I have gotten pretty decent at it though.
this video is pretty good though lol
There is a good video/article on here about backing a trailer. As funny as this may sound, I have a long gravel driveway and will hook up the car trailer and practice backing down the driveway with the mirrors just to stay in shape. During the 90's I had a mechanic career in NASCAR racing and during race weeks at whatever track the race was at there was a truck driver challenge for the race team hauler drivers with money prizes and an end of year points champion. It was awesome to see the experienced drivers parallel park an eighteen wheeler in less than 10 seconds. You thought the trucks gears or driveline was going to break when they shifted. I think Schneider Trucking was the sponsor and supplied the trucks and trailers for the challenge.

You're not alone on this. I can do a good job IF I CAN SEE THE TRAILER thru the back window, but with mirrors, every move I make is the opposite of what I need. I'm sure I could work it out if I spent some time but ……….
That is a very clever ad! Thanks for posting the video. I LOL'ed when they pulled out to pass traffic.
I can back a trailer like a boss, provided I can see out the back windows. I have yet to take the time to practice using just mirrors. I feel like I have severe brain damage when attempting that....
Tight lines,
Bob
I have only used my mirrors so far since i can't see my trailer through my back window. I did add some visibility bars and it helps but it isn't great. My dad told me to remember that if you can't see it in your mirrors then it is behind you and to keep my hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and turn my hand the direction i want the trailer to go, seems to work for me.

My fishing buddy is severely dyslexic and very paranoid... he always thinks he's following someone.
:-) Thank you... thank you... I'll be here all week! Be generous to your waiters and waitresses,
Bob
I couldn't imagine the look on the peoples faces if they got passed in reverse (unless it was a closed course which I wouldn't doubt). Cool video though!
I was sitting in my truck at the top of a boat ramp waiting to get my boat out of the water when this person was trying to back up and unload a couple of jet ski's and taking what seemed forever; it was painful to watch. A deputy was about to tell them to move so others could use the ramp but I asked him if I could help them. I thought it was a couple because the girl was sitting on one of the ski's and I thought the guy was driving because I could only see someone with a hat in the cab. As I walked up to the truck to ask if I could help a downright gorgious girl stepped out and said "oh please". I told her to get on the other ski and I would get them in the water and bring back the keys. She was so grateful and after she took her shirt off to get on the ski, so was I lol. All kidding aside, we were all there at some point and with practice we all got better, so when I took her keys down after parking the truck, I gave her a few pointers, we talked for a minute and they went on their way to have a fun time.
We had just launched our boat and were getting ready to head out and here comes a loud group launching a ski boat.4 drunks. They had took the straps off and began trying to launch but they tried several times and couldn't get it straight. We stayed to watch the show.It was one of the few ramps for miles and had been in a very remote area( picture Swamp people show but in Florida)Development was starting to come in and the area was changing.Instead of local backwoods fishermen and hunters more and more suburban out of staters were there. So there were all us good old boys watching these suburbanites trying to launch. And it was funner than fishing there for awhile. So they got more and more frustrated and faster each time and finally the driver came roaring down the ramp and actually got it straight but he slammed on the brakes and the boat slid off the trailer perfectly! The problem was it landed on the ramp instead of the water! It looked like a brand new boat and now a big scrape and hole in the outside shell .We helped them get the boat back on the trailer and they took off.Don't drink and boat!( or drive)About the same time a drunk couple went off the same ramp and drowned. If you go there now there's a restaurant and suburbia has gone by and is into the next county. And more and more bad drivers and boat launchers( and drunks)
I grew up on a farm in East Tn. My dad was a farmer and truck driver and these two things meant you had to learn to back trailers & wagons at a very young age. Anyway back to Dad. He is the only person I have ever seen back 2 four wheel wagons together at once. If you think backing a trailer is tough, try backing a farm wagon. Second part of the story is sort of funny. Dad had a Kenworth truck with a V-12 Detroit Diesel with a 20 speed Spicer Trans. split stick (2 shifters) which had 5 forward gears & reverse on the main stick & 4 gears on the aux. which you could shift 4 times for each gear on the main. The thing I enjoyed most was being with him when the banna boats came into the Port of Mobile to load. There would be hundreds of trucks there to load and when Dads turn came up he would pull up as far from the docks as he could, start backing as hard as he could go, changing gears 4 times while going in reverse, people would stop, look & listen to see what in the H--- was going on. Then he would suddenly come to a stop just before the dock and gently back in. It was quite a treet for a kid and if any of you have ever heard a V-12 Detroit scream you know what I am talking about.
isnt ford coming out woth something similar in their trucks?
When I launch my boat solo I unhook all the straps and launch it off the trailer into the water . then I get out and lightly guide the boat with my foot , tie it up and walk back to the car. When I put it back on the trailer I drive the boat up onto the trailer . If you use a rope to pull your boat at any point in the process u ain't got skills
Hey, that's cheating! A lot of time, money and effort went into that for something that would be used probably once to make the video.
I've gotten pretty good (sometimes) out of necessity since I moved into my new house. I live on a street that isn't wide enough for two cars to pass and a driveway that is just wide enough to fit my little Subaru Forester. It's a total right angle turn into the driveway due to a large tree on one side and bushes and a lamp post on the other. The day I moved in I backed in the boat in one shot. I impressed myself. But I was humbled the next time where I spent about 15 minutes trying to get the correct angle to get it in. The next few times it took a bit of maneuvering, but I got it in. Another time I was so frustrated that I unhooked the trailer and pushed it in (it's up a bit of an incline and not easy to do alone). The last few times I was able to get it in with 2-3 tries. The funny thing is that maybe 10 cars a day pass my house and one of them invariably passes by when I have the street blocked with the trailer and I have to get out of their way and start over. I've probably knocked 50k miles off of the life on my clutch trying to back the boat in.
