Got me a new boat puller 2024

Got rid of my Tundra after 10 years and 200,000 miles. Was going to buy another one but I found a new leftover 2017 F250 XLT 6.2L that I worked out a sweet deal on

I'll bet you like it.  I switched to a Ford F250 this year after being a long time Chevy 2500 guy.  It handles my 5th wheeler better than my Chevys did.

I currently have a Tundra and don't think I will ever get away from Toyota...... but if I did it would be for a new F-250

Which is what I thought as well. But, over the last 18 months or so, I dumped about $4k into the Tundra. That equals a years worth of car payments on a 10 year old truck. Ever since it turned 130k, it has been costing me money. I sure like the 1794 Edition which is what the dealership gave me as a loaner every time mine was in the shop.

The Super Duty has great reputation and, as I stated earlier, I got a sweet deal. Toyota couldn't have even come close with pricing on a "comparable" model. This is a lot more truck for less money.

lol.

My wife and I bought our first new car ever last year a 2017 Chevy Volt. It's been the most problematic vehicle we've ever had. It's been in the shop literally every other month since we've owned it. It was in the shop for 4 days after the first 3 days of ownership.

The Chevrolet dealership's GM said, "This is the odd, this the least problematic vehicle Chevy makes." I said, "Whoa, if that's the case than I will never buy another Chevy."

He said their trucks have a lot of problems. I asked if it was because of emissions standards being so strict and he said yes.

Spoke to a Chevy dealer and he said they are all crap now, just throw away vehicles. I'm getting a sense that American vehicles are falling back into the mindset of built in obsolescence again because people get huge loans on new cars and just get new cars every 5 years.

It's ridiculous. Won't be long before a new 1 ton truck is $100,000.......yeah, $100,000 for a dang truck....no way it costs $100,000 to make, that's for sure. Some homes cost $100,000.

Btw....nice truck! I've always loved Ford Super Duties and owned 2 of them.

Wow...I think the opposite...it's hard to find a truly bad model these days, IMO.  Are there occasional lemons?  You bet, but overall our cars are orders of magnitude better than the ones I grew up with.  100,000 miles was a big milestone then and right now, I can't remember the last vehicle I had that didn't sail right past that...

@slonezp Great truck.  We've migrated to Fords over time, and that's quite a move for a guy who wouldn't even look at a domestic car in the 80s, 90s and the first part of the 00s.

Yes I agree with you 100% on these newer cars that they keep trying out. I was kind of referring to the tried-and-true 5.3 in the full-size trucks and their diesel motors as well. That is what I have used since I got my driver's license and never had a single issue out of them. I bought my wife a turbo Cruze and it has been very problematic as well.

Okay all you Ford and GMC/Chevy folks just really need to come over to the dark side...:DarkVader:

Hubby was tried and true Ford man until he met me...now he wonders why he didn't make the switch to Mopar sooner. Both of our RAM 1500's are covered under the best warranty in the industry...999,999 miles or 2098 which ever comes first.  I turned a wrench for a living in a galaxy that is now far,far away and it's comforting to know I'll probably never use that warranty [or at least not very often], but when I'm pushing daisies my grandson will still be driving my Laramie and be covered. All for less than the cost of one transmission.

Come to the dark side...you know you want to! :glasses9:

What’s funny is that the Volt was in the shop again as usual last week and I was given a loaner which was a 2019 Chevy 1500.

Drove fine the 1st day, second day it wouldn’t start. Then it did. I told the dealership about it but was worried they’d blame me for something. They said no problem.

But it that was a brand new 2019 Chevy with starting issues.

I read that Ford is getting out of the car business. They will only be producing two cars after 2020. The Focus Active and Mustang. They will mostly be making suvs, crossovers and trucks. The article states that Ford loses money on cars like the Lincoln Continental and if they are going to stop producing them the other cars that share parts with the continental, like the Taurus, will also have to go.

Okay, I really thought you were yanking our chains with this, but it really is true. Not that it breaks my heart or anything, but for those with vehicles on the hit list it might be time to hoard parts.

True enough, if we can trust the media to report things accurately.

GM and Dodge trucks weren't even involved in my decision. I've owned 3 Dodge trucks the last one purchased new in 2003 which I traded in on the Tundra. Biggest POS truck I have owned or driven to date. I swore off Dodge. Last Ford truck I owned was a 1984 Bronco with a 351. The ex got that in the divorce. I drove 3500 series vans both Chevy and Ford, as work vehicles for many many years. The Chevy's were all problematic. The Toyota was not without problems. Under the initial 3/36 warranty the bumpers were replaced twice, radio 3 times, front differential rebuilt, could have been some other stuff as well. At 80,000 new water pump, at 130k and again at 190k radiator replaced, parking brake linkage at 150k, Shocks/struts at 170k, U joints last fall, the drivers seat has been broken for years which I never did anything about, was currently having issues with a ground affecting the trailer lights and radio, and I was due for brakes again. I understand some of the repairs were just "maintenance", but I realized the Toyota kool-aid is no different than the kool-aid the Big 3 try and sell us on. Their product is not bulletproof. Honestly, the deciding factor between this truck and another Tundra was purely pricing. I had no interest in the F150. I would have had to upgrade the Tundra from the SR5 to the Limited to get the same features as the F250 XLT.

There was a major shift in Chrysler after the bailout in '09, which non of the big 3 escaped. They cut back on the number of models they built, RAM became it's own brand, and now they're partnered with Fiat/Alfa Romeo.

Of course as a gal who has been brand loyal for 40 years I am thrilled that they are getting back to muscle. Looking forward to punching the pedal on a new Demon (had an original 71, 340 cid w/Holley 750 dbl pumper) at a "timid" 840 horse.

Funny thing about which vehicles you like and don't like: It's not a race.  It's what makes you happy.

I'll take what I like over what puts up the best numbers, every time.

It's why I raced balanced sports cars instead of straight line heavy metal.  It made me smile.

Nailed it.

I'm not terribly pro, or anti, any brand.  But holy cow do the Kool-Aid drinkers slurp it up about whatever they are in love with, and you can't have a rational discussion with any of them.

Same with boats, motors, electronics and a host of other things.

I don't begrudge anyone their preferences...until they tell me what I like is junk...then it's walk-away time.

From what I've seen and read, this is true.  I know that Jeep has improved immensely, particularly in regard to power plants.  THey've been world class WRT to all wheel drive forever, but have had plenty of other issues along the road...or off it, if that's more appropriate. ????

I think you're both thinking about it, and making the right call for you...

That's the thing...I learned a long time ago with bird dogs...don't be breed blind.  They all have something to offer and if you open your mind, and your heart, they can all make you smile.  I'm mostly a pointing dog guy, but some of my fondest memories are of flushing dogs or retrievers doing their thing...the way they do their thing.

Same goes for being brand blind with vehicles.  Back in the 80s, 90s and probably into the early 00s...you could get a better vehicle for less money going with an import...cars in particular...but I had a couple of Isuzu Troopers that were insanely good, one of which made it past 350,000 miles, with one expensive problem: the A/C compressor went belly up at around 100K and it was an expensive fix.  Those Troopers cost around $3-$4,000 less than an Explorer or whatever GM was offering at the time in the same class...it was a no-brainer to make the choice we did.

Gotta make the right call for you, at the time, and ignore all the true believers and Kool-Aid drinkers.

But I do think that Ford has really stepped up their game in the last couple of years and I would definitely take a close look at a Ford as well.
