Was curious of everyones go pro mounts that they have set up on there boats? I have a go pro i use mostly for motocross but ive started playing with it while im fishing recording releases and things like that so i was curious how some of you guys have them set up so i could get some ideas to start recording on boats! Pics or links to setups will be much appreciated thank you!!
I have been playing with mine for about a year now and have just used the adhesive mounts in various places on the boat and sometimes the head mount. Not real happy with the angles of any I am using right now but I try to keep my camera plugged into the 12 volt system on the boat since I fish for several hours and don't like swapping out batteries. I use a five minute loop when recording with mine. The best angles I have seen used were with the camera mounted up higher on a pole that captures most all the action but most that I have seen done this way had the camera swaying or vibrating excessively. I will just keep experimenting with mine until I fine something that finally makes me happy. The Adhesive mounts at least remove easily without leaving any residue behind and can often be stuck somewhere else.
Check out the Mighty Mounts, Pan Fish Camera pole, Dog Bone, etc from Hook1. This is what us kayak anglers use for our Go Pros and I see no reason why they wouldn't work on the bass boats. http://kayakfishinggear.com/camerasandaccessories.aspx
I really like the suction cup mount and use it on my windshield most of the time. I've had it on various parts of my boat were the fiberglass is wide enough as well. An adhesive mount on the boat motor works well too. I would really like to rig up a pole to get a higher view shot as tnriverluver mentioned but havent though of a stable and convienent/portable way to accomplish this when I'm fishing solo.
The first video below is a suction cup on the windshield and on the front of my boat were my trolling motor is bolted down. The second video is on the boat motor. Gives you an idea of how they footage turns out.

I have been considering mounting mine on the rear pedestal since I usually fish alone with just my dog, but it is a long walk to the back of the boat to reset the camera after each fish is caught. I don't use the remote function and find it clumbsy on the Iphone. My biggest issue is having a long enough charging cable to reach the camera however. I have rigged cigarette lighter plugs in all three of my boats to help alleviate that somewhat.

those seem to be more towards a kayak setup like you said it looks like you have to have the base part for it to work and im trying to avoid drilling things lol i might be wrong but from what it looks like idk if its really what im looking for
Thanks man! It was a carrot stix gold with a Lews super duty reel.
If your looking for a new rod look at something else.. I've broke 3 carrot stix and would never buy another after this one snaps. The super duty is an awesome reel though.
I just use a straight up head strap mount

Ya i just ordered a abu garcia revo stx and a abu garcia veritas rod 7 foot med hoping it works well ive read and heard a lot of good stuff about the rod so im keeping my fingers crossed lol i considered a lews reel and looked at a couple in stores and they felt nice im just an abu fan and couldnt get away from them :/
The STX is a sweet reel. I got the Lews on a killer deal last black friday, otherwise i've been a die hard Abu guy since day 1. Good luck on the videos bud!

That's what happens when you catch Minnesota Monsters!
Has anyone tried the flex clamp?
http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/jaws-flex-clamp
I'm getting one for my birthday (Dec 10, in case your feeling generous) and am looking at mounting options
Looking for something also. The suction mount is good for warmer weather, but it will fall off when the weather gets cooler. Happened to me three times on my boat today and it didn't happen once all summer.

i just picked up a suction cup mount im really wanting to try but i havent gone out on a boat yet where i can use it! i put a sticky mount that the go pro comes with on top of my trolley motor and it works pretty well i actually got some footage of a 4 1/2 pounder i caught a few weeks back! But the picture was actually perfect for where i stand

So i apparently need to try to fish Minnesota in the future lol because the fish on that go pro video are healthy!! almost looks like a video in Texas or something haha

If you use the suction cup make sure to have the camera tethered. My suction cup mount will not stay stuck to anything and it is brand new

really? i would be sending it back then because when i unpackaged mine i stuck it right to my kitchen table and lifted the side of it off the ground just to make sure it worked!! and ive stuck it to the windshield of my step dads boat and it stayed fine i of course didnt pull on it or anything lol his boats way to expensive to be doing that to haha
Mine works great as well. Only issue I've had was on extremely hot days. You should tether just to be safe especially if the camera is close to an edge of the boat. Contact GoPro, I'm sure they'll replace it.
I was looking for something to mount my go pro with. I am a bank guy so I want to set it up behind me, I'm not really a fan of the head mount route. May have to invest in a tripod but I don't really want to be lugging that thing around with me lol. I have a back pack so maybe I could find something that folds up I could put in there, any ideas?
You'll have to suffice with some sort of tripod mount then and carry it. Some of the tripod mounts can fold up pretty compact. You should look at a photography store that has a big selection. The head mount would be the least maintenance for you or you can look into that new Jaw's clamp except I don't know where the heck you'd put it unless you're around trees all the time. Do not get the chest mount, please. I can't stand watching fishing videos of the chest mount.
I had thought about getting the head mount myself, except I am constantly looking around when I fish. Like I have ADD or something but i'm usually looking for movement in the water or other stuff. I'd probably have some terrible footage.

Yea man that's why I need to ditch the head mount because I am the same way lol. Always looking around mostly at the water for movement but at some spots I am looking for snakes that creep up on ya lol. With the colder weather here in north FL haven't seen many as of late.
I am going to look into a compact tripod or even something makeshift that I can just stick in the ground and mount the camera to.

Put one of the adhesive mounts on a tackle box and set it back behind you a little and up on a hill if possible. I don't like the head straps myself. They are not very comfortable after wearing them a while.

im the same way constantly looking around lol but i actually have adhd lol so it would never work and also dont like the chest mounts either

I hope that my comment wasn't taken as a jab to you or anyone else with ADD/Adhd. Not my intention at all so for anyone reading this thread I do apologize. For all I know, I probably have it too and just never got it "verified" by the Doc.
i have a hat cam i made, used one of the gopro mounts, sat it on the brim, marked holes, drilled them out and ziptied a mount on it...i try to be conscience of head movement when i'm out but it is a real fishin ADD thing and near impossible to keep focused on one spot for the duration of a cast or pitch...we all head scan, looking for the next money spot...but with my toon i have no choice in the matter so hat cam it is...
chest mount, usless for fishin...got one and tried it for 1 fish and its collecting dust now...your torso will turn settin the hook & fighting the fish so all will go out of frame...atleast the hat cam you'll always be looking at the fish your crankin in...

no i dont take offense to it lol there's much worst things i could have and im blessed that adhd is all i "technically" have wrong with me hahaha your alright man I dont take it personally!!
1 tent pole and a handle bar mount. Just stick it in the ground behind you.
I couldn't be happier with the CPR mount from green fish!

Anyone have any experience mounting a GoPro to the top of the outboard with an adhesive mount? If so, have you run the motor while the camera is up there? Just wondering if it would stick going 40mph down the lake. Obviously I would tether it somehow, but I'd like to get some good running shots and a suction cup just won't stay stuck going 40mph down the lake.
I use a Scotty mount very easy to install

I honestly dont know if they will stay stuck to the outboard but i can tell you the adhesive mounts are extremely strong! we use them for motocross and ive seen dudes wreck insanely hard and them stay stuck onto the helmet and im talking like bouncing your head off the ground rolling on the ground like the camera getting landed on into the dirt and they still stay on!!
My buddy is getting a pond prowler and I was wondering whats a good way to mount the go pro? I have one and I think he is getting one too so we wanted to mount them. Should be able to get some good footage this spawn can't wait for that.
I've seen several tri pods. That fold down to about 12 to 14 inches long. Around 3 or 4 inches wide at the base. Weigh near nothing. They make a stick stand to. But I don't no what the end looks like. If you could stick it in the ground or not. It's meant to just hold and steady the camera.
I gotta get one to. I've done two things resently I wish I had on video. One was around a ten pounder I new seen me and wouldn't have bit nothing no matter what I did after she eyed me. Never tried. But I stuck the tip of the rod in front of her and whipped it back and forth pretty hard. To scare her back into shallow water just to look at her more. She sunk on under the rod tip out of sight. With out a care in the world. So I went to pick the rod tip up out of the water. When I noticed the slightest dead weight on the jig that was hanging about two ft off the end of the rod. Yea she had it. I thought it was a stick or something. I guess she thought the splashing scared that jig across the bottom. So she grabbed it. You cant set a 5 oo on thight line. But it will break 20lb braid when it pops loose. And land five ft behind you like 7 seconds later. Lol. I just wish u could have seen the look on both our faces. If a fish had an expression. Hers was care free as I pulled her big head up to the surface. She never even fought just back paddled with her side fins. As I seen the jig hook point standing perfect on her top jaw. I leaned on the jig hard as I could but watched as it just fell over on it side in slow motion. And flew off the roof of her mouth.
I typed this in when it happened. But never hit post because I new no one would believe it. Heck I wouldn't. Wish I had the vid. But if I dare carry a camera or a dip net il never need either. Lol

with a pond prowler i would say use a sticker mount to the trolley motor and the camera should be set up in wide view so it will pan everything your doing thats what i use on my jon boat! And for the second one maybe look into a handlebar mount with a stick so it sits up high and can view the other fisher if not both of you depending on how high it is set to! you can put the handlebar mount to a handle on the boat because im pretty sure they have handles but not 100%!

that ones for a kayak but maybe you could find a way to mount it like they show on the website granted a crate isnt gonna be convenient for space in a pond prowler!

there is also the jaws flex mount that might work also!

another good idea depends on if you wanna drill a mount into your boat or not

Do you remember where you saw those tri pods?
And man that story does sound crazy would have been awesome to get on film. When I caught my PB last week I was going to get out my gopro before I casted but didn't (wouldn't make a difference will see later). It was pretty cool I was using a magnum pop'r and then I caught maybe a 3lber it exploded on the pop'r. The fish jumped out the water and shook the hook then as soon as my pop'r hit the water my 7lb 7oz PB inhaled it. I hooked her then the fight was on got her in snapped a few pics then let her go, it was awesome to see and would have loved to get that on film!! Not the 10lber you got but same thing happened to the both of us we missed some amazing footage.
It's funny when I have my gopro runnin nothing but dinks lol when I don't have it going that's when I get the big ones! I kept it in my fishing backpack for a while, haven't used it in over a week at that point, then I went to get some underwater footage of bedding bass from shore and gopro was dead. Someone mentioned that the gopro will drain the battery while it is turned off and it's true cuz like I said I haven't used it in a long time then when I did it was dead (I have the LCD touch screen too so that could add to the drain)
I am stocking up on batteries got a good deal online for 4 of them, my buddy is actually going to look at the boat today and we may be out as early as Saturday trying to get some footage!
Instead of the prowler my buddy got talked out of that by a bass pro associate and is on his way home with a Jon boat.
So I need different ideas for mounting but id imagine it will be a lot easier in a Jon boat
Heck. I just realized when reading you post. When you guys said go pro mount. I was thinking camera mount. But your talking about a typ of camera. Correct?
The tripods I was talking about. Was just a standard camera tri pod. It has a screw that threads into the bottom of the camera. If your camera has a threaded hole in the bottom. It will work. Might have a flat head plug screwed into it. Walmart used to carry the tri pods. Ebay
I've got to get another digital camera. My son dropped mine and messed up the zoom lens. I can get a small Nikon for $40 bucks or so from the pawn shop. That should shoot decent video.
Wish I could find one with a shutter bottom like the old 35 mm film. You could add a cord and bulb looking thing that u just squeezed and it took the picture. In this case it would activate and start videoing. That way you don't accidentally move the camera when turning it on.
Go pro sounds high dollar if it will handle motor cross wrecks. Sounds like a camera for my son. Lol.
I just went and looked up the camera. Look at the Frame Mount. The flat bases that it comes with looks like the quick connects on regular camera tripods from what I remember. But I watched the video and they didn't mention it. Seems they would have. Unless maybe they are in the process of making there own tripod. Seems they would have one anyway. How ever you could contact them and ask if it does fit. The tripods come with a square mount. You screw that into the bottom of your camera. And to add remove from the tripod you just mash a spring loaded botton. And I'm feeling pretty dumb rite now if you already no this. Just thinking you might be younger then myself and never dealt with 35 mm. Lol.
I say square. But best I remember I've seen two. And they both remind me of the two they show. Why would they have two anyway. I bet they fit. I bet there camera doesn't have the threaded hole I mention above. And they made this to fit a standard tri pod.

in my jon like i said i just use an adhesive mount to the trolley motor and then you could screw a mount down to the metal on front part of the boat to get that angle!! if your willing to do that if not look up some google images of setups they have a ton just type in go pro fishing mounts and explore your options lol
