What’s the latest expense for your boat?
Either things you started thinking about and had to have ... or little surprises that drive frustration.
One of the banks on my onboard charger seems to have quit working. I cycle all of the batteries through that bank and only that bank seems to have the issue.
Looks like I’ll be spending $200-$400 bucks for a new one. Ironic part is I just purchased all new batteries and was going to go with lithiums but the extra expense of a new charger was just enough to keep me from buying them, so I went with AGMs.
Whats your latest reason to B.O.A.T?

Have fun & Good Luck with all that - what's the boot of choice ? - I'm looking too.

Same as I always get, Cooper Wilderness A/T.
I'm getting ready for 3 new batteries this spring. I'm putting it off as long as I can but the time is near. Just dropped $600+ on a new pair of Rx Sunglasses and regular glasses with a new prescription. Fishing sunglasses count as a boat expense.
$900 for a jack plate, hot foot and blinker trim. The hot foot and jack plate I already love. Remembering I have the blinker trim has proven to be more difficult than I thought. Still go to the shifter more often than not.

I'm the opposite. Wait a couple years and try to drive a boat without it. I drove a buddies boat with the throttle on the side, that was a disaster. LOL One you get familiar with all 3 of those you will wish you had done it earlier. Hotfoots and blinker trim are a must imo.
My expenses haven't been that bad yet and I hope they are not. Have new hubs ordered for the trailer should be around $60. Went downtown today to pay the taxes and license my boat for this year at $88. Hoping I don't need new batteries this year. That will be around $300 if I do.
Does buying at boat count since I already had a boat and added another? Lol
It was mayhem in my driveway when I had both the Bullet and the Xpress.

I do think I am going to get an Aloha for pitching, New prop and yes prescription sun glasses count

My 14’ is on loan to my friend this year. My G3 has been hibernating in his pole barn since November so it’s the least I could do. I imagine I’ll just sell it to him.

I dropped serious coin on prescription polarized Wiley's with progressive lenses. It beats not being able to see.
I bought a Just Encase deck box this winter to put between my console seats for more storage. ($300). Took a chunk out of my skeg and roughed up my prop last year. It was the first time I ever hit anything in nearly 20 years of boating. $175 for the prop and I still need to get the skeg repaired. It is not affecting the performance but I hate the way it looks.
Out with old and in with the new.

Not sure what batteries you run but Sams Club has the Group 31 AGM's on sale for $159.99 right now. Only hear great things about those batteries.

A new winch. Two speed, 3200 pound pull. 135 dollars delivered to my door. If I had known what an amazing difference it made, I'd have replaced the brand new winch on my Z8 before I put it in the water.
I stripped the two flats on the shaft and the handle.

Just shy of $3k. I am afraid to count for presision. What's started as a upgrade for one fish finder that I was only going to spend $300 on, I ended up with two Garmin 93sv, livescope, a new minnkota maxxum, and whole lot of smaller gear, wiring... Besides that, I have purchased so many new reels and fishing rods.
I really have a problem... I have G.A.S.

3 trailer tires (they are old, no miles on them though), 1 fish finder, 2 batteries (never got em for the trolling motor to being with as this is a new boat), throwable pfd, flooring (still deciding on alum vs wood) and extra prop. Should be around $1200

The Duracells? I have 2 in my boat but was going to buy 2 more and put the the 2 in my boat into the johnboat and drop the new ones in my Stratos. I'll have to go pick them up now if that's the case.
Other than batteries, bought a new gas tank for the johnboat. Old one wasn't picking up gas anymore and is probably a decade old, way bigger than I need for all the more I run the gas motor on it, it was time to go smaller and newer.
New coupler for my kayak trailer. Old one doesn't lock down anymore, popped off the ball on me 3 times last year while towing it. The tow chains are short so it doesn't hit the road or anything, but it still sucks.
Last time I broke out another thousand was last spring for a new steering cylinder on my Stratos. Serious design flaw caused a major issue that ruined more than one trip and I was tired of dealing with it. New cylinder fixed the problem thankfully. Should have done it the first time, already would have paid for it all the time and money I've spend repairing the problem cylinder.

I know how that goes. Last spring my Hbird 859 crapped out when I upgraded the software. (ticked me off since I followed their procedure exactly. It was $250 or so for Humminbird just for them to look at it.) Anyways, I planned on just getting a $500ish 7" DI Helix to replace it. After shopping and comparing, I ended up getting the Helix 10 SI/DI for nearly 3x times the cost.

I'm going to stay with wet cells only because I don't want to upgrade my charger. I have a Sears PM1 as my cranking battery and I always have to top it off with a portable that has an AGM setting. My charger is a 2005 model and it can't be reprogrammed to charge AGM's. Since I need a 4 bank it's an expensive charger. I'm toying with the idea of getting a new(er) boat anyway so I'm in a state of flux right now trying to keep the expenses to a minimum on my current ride.
(Be me two weeks ago)Running down the lake during a tournament practice doing just fine, stop fish first spot (roughly 45 mins), Welp time to fire her up and go to the next spot. Hit the key and nothing, i mean nothing, not a click not a clack, not a "oh well i think ill try to crank" from the ol merc. eventually realize im 15ish mins from the boat ramp and need a ride back because no way the trolling motor is gonna get me there before i turn 30. So what else to do besides flag someone down to help me get back. luckily the older gentleman is very kind and was returning to the same ramp. I get back there and try to give him some money, to which he declines and says it was the least he can do. (did I mention how fishermen/fisherwomen are some of the best people around?) Get home start tearing her apart, turns out the starter went bad, 65 dollars and 4 days later the new starter is in and the old is out. (tournament day now)- she started beautifully and is running like a dream, screaming down the lake Wot and all the sudden she stutters and kicks around. I immediately come off pad and drop her to idle where she promptly dies. The mood in the boat went from kick*ss tournament hype, to oh lord what have i done in roughly .05 seconds. the rest of the day she runs rough and doesn't want to idle, I figure maybe bad gas or water had got in the gas somehow. A trip to the mechanic showed that the top cylinder was getting little to no gas and had I continued to run her hard all day more than likely I would have ruined the piston and possibly totaled the motor. So for now my baby is at the shop getting a carb rebuild/fuel line replace, and a top end tear down. The estimate was anywhere from 450-670, please yall i'm gonna need a prayer when I tell my mom what the final cost is, luckily dad and i have been plotting on how to keep her from her finding out until my birthday in which she realizes it wouldnt be a proper 19th birthday to murder your son ????

Yeah, I guess I was an easy mark. I was cornered, held up, and robbed!
Winter projects for me:
Garmin Echomap Plus 93SV $600
CMC power tilt and trim $700
New wiring and dash panel $200
New TM (still need approval from wife) $1200
I'll have more into refit and upgrades than the purchase price of the boat.
My winter projects on the canoe
Replace mid and rear seat - installed, still need to paint
Install outriggers - done
Route wiring for TM - done
Acquire and build trailer - need replacement tongue piece
Total costs this winter on canoe - @800 when it's all said and done.
An easy year so far. $93.00 for the kit to change my top end oil and lower unit lube. Fingerscrossed.

At Sam's Club had prescription sun glasses made for under $150 don't remember exact amount.
Outboard blew up middle of the season last year. Replaced both trailer tires end of June which need replaced again after only about 3000 miles on them. Yes thousand not hundred.
Had a 2000 mile round trip on them when they were brand new. even with them being balanced the insides still wore out . I think I may have a slightly bent axle.

If you didn't get safety lenses, you're selling yourself short. You're screwed if a jig suddenly gets unstuck and fly's 100mph back at your face. I got hit in the back of the head with a jig from my fishing partner and that sumabitch left a lump. Had that hit me in the eye, I'd have to change my username to cyclops.
well, I though I would weigh in on this Bring Out Another Thousand...thread
i have had many types of boats over the years and had to always buy used and they all needed some kind of work which I do enjoy doing.
I don't enjoy the high prices of replacement parts when I need some...so for me I either buy the parts, repair it and keep enjoying the boat or I sell them ASIS then I'm happy and think i'm not going to buy another...but somehow I seem to get another after another and of course they all need work of some sort...then I'm happy I have another boat again...call me crazy.
Rather not say newer 175HP E-tech, an electronics. Boat trailer could use new rims an tires so there is that yet this summer. Plus couple new rods an reels that were “needed”.....
Involuntary expense so far has been a new starting battery. What ended the season last year as a super cranking maniac with plenty of reserve capacity for a week-long trip turned into a completely dead lump with 0 volts. I think a cell must have shorted out because it went from hero to zero in less than a month. I’m also replacing the trailer lights on the Jon boat trailer. The wiring on the navigation lights has all cracked and needs replacing as well, but now that I have the G3 I don’t know if the Jon will ever be run at night again. Still, it’s always better to have it just in case.
Voluntary expense has been a new Powerdrive trolling motor. The boat came with a cable steer unit and I just never was able to warm up to it. My old Astroglas from 1990 had a Minn Kota with electric steering and I really preferred that. Farm and Fleet had the 12v unit on sale for $479 online so I broke down and ordered it. It’s a Bluetooth capable motor so I could add copilot or I pilot if I want in the future.

I installed a Solix 15 SI GPS, 360 Imaging, Delta Pro 3 bank charger, 3 group 31 Duracells, 8 gang switch panel, and a Terrova 80 I pilot link with bluetooth. Spent more on this than the boat(1448 Lowe) & motor(25 Merc 2 stroke) new. My wife (my financial advisor) actually talked me into the Solix. I was looking at the Helix.
A Garmin 73cv Echomap Plus, replaced all the black rubber footing on the boat with Seadek, refreshing the Maxxum Pro 80 (the more I open it up the more I need to replace) About 7 hundy in so far.
Scratch that, just went up to 3K... Had to buy a new trailer.
I really don't feel bad for you guys
My latest boat expense, A house with a garage so I don't have to pay to store my boat over the winter.
$500 for new trolling motor, $179 new AGM trolling motor battery but will recover some of it when I sell the old MG Brute 52 and the Minn Kota MK106D battery charger that came with the Edge 55 trolling motor. Really haven't had to spend that much over the years on the bass boat.
If you want a MG Brute 52 motor works great the mount is broken. $100 that is cheaper than what a typical repair would cost if yours is broke. $60 brand new in box MK106D digital battery charger sell for $99 in stores.

Unless insurance covers rust. It's an 2007 Stratos square tubed framed trailer.... It's all rusted to pooh, from the inside out. I don't trust towing it further than my local lakes. I want to hit the Finger Lakes later this summer and that's an 4 hour drive, I rather be safe than sorry.
Turned a deck extension into a storage compartment on my boat. Tried ordering a hatch latch from Ranger to match the key to my other hatches. When I got it the key didn't match... So I went with a Loc-R-Bar instead. Found it for unbelievably cheap from a guy that bought one he never installed for a bass boat that he sold.
Also had domednumbers.com make me some replica "Ranger Sport R70" decals for my boat since the originals were looking pretty ragged.

Dropped a bit of coin on Memorial Day weekend for a new impeller. You know, the busiest boating weekend of the year. I had just begun my vacation an I'm fortunate my boat mechanic of 20 years likes me. I called him from the lake at 9am. Dropped the boat off at noon where he pulled a boat out of one of the bays to accommodate me. Called me 3 hours later to come pick up the boat. When I picked it up he said it's a good thing I like you. I said I know. Had I not had that type of relationship, I'd probably just be picking up my boat today.

Bit the bullet...boat expenses went up and down. Up in that I'm getting a new boat next week...down in that my gas and oil bill will be significantly lower with the four stroke. Also maybe this will keep me away from the back doctor as it's so much lighter to move around and manage. Will turn 69 pretty quick and have thought about this long and hard but since we only get one turn on this ol earth and tomorrow is not a given we are going with it.

Broke a spring in the pedal for my trolling motor. $2.70 to get the replacement kit. Easily the least expensive repair cost ever. Now if it only arrived today.....
35 bucks on a spare tire bracket for the trailer.
How many times do I have to keep reminding everyone about this?
