When shopping for a vacuum sealer, What does it mean when it tells how many "consecutive seals" the vacuum sealer can do "without stopping"?

Answer: This is the number of times you can vacuum and seal a bag before the unit gets to hot to do this. I did have a different one before buying this one and could only do about five to ten bags before it would just flash the lights tell it cooled down.

Does this automatically shut off when maximum vacuum is achieved or must you manually stop the vacuum process.

Answer: This one is a regular seal, but seems to seal well. We use it A LOT and when i need to make sure the seal is tight(if whatever i'm sealing is juicy) I just hit the seal button again, after it has gone through the sealing process, and that seems to do the trick. It works great and the recovery time is excellent.

This new design has intelligent sealing control, but does not have the dry/moist food selection feature. We recommend you pre-freeze meats and other moist foods for 1 - 2 hours before vacuum sealing. Excess liquids from moist foods can cause the unit not to vacuum and permanent damage can occur.

Answer: We do moist things all the time. If you have something too wet, the tray will fill fast, but all I do is get the air out and hit the seal button. It works great. My problem with other models is that they would overheat after 20 bags. Not with this one! I haven't been able to overheat it yet and I use it for large quantities all the time. You will be happy with it

Answer: There is a drip tray in the foodsaver which allows some moisture to be extracted, when it comes to meats you can have it sealed frozen, or if it is fresh then it is good to put a paper towel to absorb a bit of the moisture before sealing the meat. The vacuum sealer machine will not be able to seal if there is large amount of moisture, but will be able to extract smaller quantity.

Answer: So this product is not recommended for liquids that’s what it means by moist. You can save fish for up to 3 years!

If you're looking for a food saver that can take a beating and has the ability of processing a whole animal in one pass, then the game saver is the one for you. If you're looking for a food saver that is more for processing large quantities of groceries, then the 5480 would be great.

Answer: base on length of time you have had it and if you got it from Amazon they will replace it. Hopefully you purchased new, at times they sell it renewed. if you have submitted the warranty you should be good to go. if you are dealing with Foodsaver directly then call on phone. I have found working with different companies they stand by their product. so with purchased through Amazon then pull up order and submit need to return due to failure of product. always buy new online.

Answer: I need more information. Is the actual unit shutting off or is it just not sucking the air out of the bags or is it not sealing the bags? If the unit is actually turning on and functioning but just not sucking the air out of the bags, that’s a different problem. That Hass to do with how much of the empty bag you put into the unit before you close it. You need to put at least 3 to 4 inches of bag past the ceiling unit when you close it. And be sure to keep the rough side of the bag up. I hope this helps.

Almost perfect, but not quite. The noise is bearable at first but gets annoying after a lot of use. After an almost disastrous incident when liquid nearly went into the motor, a friend 3D-printed a slightly smaller liquid tray to insert right inside the existing one and it's extremely difficult to get liquid past both tray! We know, we tried! The only other issue is the tedious and noisy process to switch mode from open, thru storage, to seal, and back thru storage to open. I expect some mechanical failure here. Not sure why a lever on a roller cam wasn't used - I will try creating that to fix it if it fails.

Latch mechanism is poorly designed and begs for the plastic latches to be broke. I would not recommend to someone planning on using this for wild game or fish.

I do not normally give 5 Star Ratings, but I think this product, a vacuum food sealer, is very well designed, and I'm using it for home/kitchen use for most of my food preservation needs. I did buy the FoodSaver v2244, a low-cost unit, but I decided to spend the extra money at about $140 for this GameSaver unit instead and returned the low-cost v2244. I think I made a very wise decision, because this unit is far superior and well made. Buy this for home/kitchen use. The only "design issue" is you do need more counter space with this unit, because it is wider than other units.

Bought in 2017 use it a lot and it works good. Has a ton of suction, only flaw I have found is when vacuum sealing things that have liquid you have to do the final seal twice but on a dry bag works great. I looked at vacuum sealers a while before getting this one. If you are in question look at YouTube to help you with your decision.

I used this the first time while fishing. I caught some nice size blue catfish and filleted them out. I attempted to vacuum seal them and found that the heating element doesn't get hot enough to seal with moisture in the way. So my recommendation to anyone is to keep towels around to pat the items dry prior to using this item. As of right now I am fair disappointed with this item for that reason. I was planning to use it on an upcoming hunting trip so I can seal everything and place it in a cooler for easier and smaller storage. I would recommend trying a different sealer.

After a lot more use as previously stated. If whatever your packaging is wet, like freshly filleted fish this won't seal due to if fluid getting in the seal. If you pat dry the items it will seal properly. Finding this out I upgraded my previous review from 2 star to 4. If you plan to wet cure or ferment anything that has fluid this is not recommended. I'm glad I did not get rid of my cheap sealer that has a wet or dry feature so I can store soups or wet items.

This product is great for anyone that travels or hunters that butcher shortly after success. I've used for everything (meal prep while traveling, wild hog, birds, fish, and venison). Make packing everything into the cooler easier for that trip back. Reduces spoilage by moisture and air.

The one thing this is quoted as being designed for, "80 consecutive seals," is what it is the worst at. The entire reason for this to exist is to be heavy duty, however in all aspects it comes short.

This system over heats, has a VERY slow suction motor compared to MUCH cheaper models from Foodsaver, and takes 2-3 times longer to seal any food item compared to the "cheap" models from Foodsaver.

Another MAJOR flaw is the locking mechanism, the first unit I tried, it failed within a week, the second unit got wobbly after two weeks. This will no doubt fail on all models, after a reasonable use time, compared to older models I have that have lasted for several years with no problems.

The reason for 2 stars, is that I love the built-in cutting feature to easily measure bags out for different food sizes, but for every other function that this provides, please do yourself a favor and skip it. If you really want to give it a shot, Amazon has a great return policy so you won't have any risk.

It doesn't wimp out when you are sealing pounds and baskets of hard earned bounty. Easy to clean, easy to transport, easy to store (hang it on a wall). The accessory cord allows it to be used at the deer camp or fishing trip. It protects other valuables also like documents and jewelry. It's a worker!

I came from the automatic foodsaver which was honestly way easier to use but had one major flaw, it could not seal anything wet. The reason for that was that the automatic one released the vacuum as soon as its done "sealing", fail.

Since you control the lock on this one, you can leave it under vacuum and just press seal again to get a double seal and finally seal wet foods! Yeah its slower, and a pain to use, but it works. Its also portable which is a plus.

I thought that this one would do continuous seals (no waiting), but just like the automatic version, you still have to wait 10 seconds before itll go again. Bummer.

This sealer worked great for the first 3 times I used it. After the third time, the cutting mechanism completely fails to make a clean cut, the suction capacity has decreased and I am unable to get a complete seal across the bag, thus letting air in and defeating the purpose of the product. I was going to attempt an exchange, but I am outside my return window. I am extremely disappointed with the overall performance of this product.

Purchased for my mother for Christmas. She used it for the first time in February and maybe half a dozen times afterwards. By April it was broken, with not suction or sealing power. The return period has closed. I would not buy this again from Amazon, I would try my luck with Costco because of the excellent return policy.

Absolute garbage. I’ve had 3 food savers over the years and this has to be the worse of all of them. After 3 bags it quit sealing properly. Wasted another 3 bags trying to seal 1 pack of chicken. Turns out if it’s the least bit wet it will not seal properly. Better off using ziplock bags and save yourself the time and money. Thought this rugged version would be a little more stout and hold up longer, I was way off. This will be my last time getting a food saver product, very disappointing to say the least. Couldn’t get through 1 meat order.

It does everything they say it will do. I bought this one as a replacement. The ONLY complaint I have with the Foodsaver systems is the locking mechanisms. They don't last long. They really need to design them with better materials. They break or get faulty fairly quick. But as far as a food storage, you can't go wrong. I've been using the system for close to 10 years.

Have had it two years. Very lightly used. Have always used genuine, expensive, food saver bags. Tonight, it would not draw a vacuum… With about $100 worth of meats Risking spoilage. Tried freezing them ahead of time. No luck. Even tried sealing an empty bag. It wouldn’t do that. I tried two different packages of bags. No luck. Do not waste your money on this piece of junk. It will fail, it’s only a matter of time. Customer phone number only leads to an automated menu, without any option of talking to a real person. They will do anything they can to avoid talking to a real person. It continually directs them to tips on the Internet, that are worthless. Do not waste your money on this. I implore you. Just buy double seal freezer bags. They are more reliable and a better value.

East Coast Engineer Rob : Effectively Does What You Expect, Just a Bit Pricey

Used twice so far, does exactly what we needed/expected. Quality is decent, although we're getting a white spot in the middle of the sealing strip, that hasn't seemed to affect the seals. Don't expect it to suck out every last but of air, but it does a decent job. I shy away from full credit as the price seems a bit high compared to what I'd usually expect to pay for a lightweight, plastic appliance with this sort of functionality - but, whatever the market will bear, I suppose.

K. Sizemore : Gaskets go bad and can't get replacements

The gaskets are foam and go bad. They get juices in them eventually and you need to replace them. Finding the upper and lower replacements are crazy hard to get. Tried an aftermarket replacement set and they don't work. Tried to contact foodsaver and they want pictures of the unit along with literally like 15 sets of numbers off it. Way too much hassle for some $5 gaskets that should be available. I'm just ditching the unit and buying another brand at this point.

This unit replaced a previous model that we loved. This one works just as good. The large size is a plus. We buy in bulk because of our rural location an only go shopping once a month on avarage. So this is a money saver.

I have owned the three good savers and this one is by far the best! The others had issues with having to cool down after a few seals or didn't always seal on the first try. This one seals time after time, no issues. It removes all of the air so I won't worry about freezer burn. It is durable and so easy to use.

Purchased Dec of 2019 and it is completely DEAD as of Sept 20. And it's coming up on deer season here.
No problem, it comes with a 2 year warranty. However their customer service is non-existent! For the last month I've gotten the same worthless "sorry for the slow response tell us what's wrong" email responses from their customer service dept. it is garbage! It's clunky to use and slow to recycle when you really need it. Very disappointing piece of trash. I'm throwing it out and no more foodsaver products for me.
Be warned DONT BUY IT.

Since I purchased this unit, I had some trouble with it not holding a seal after 1 day of sealing some bags. Not all of them sealed probably.

This is the best Food Saver I've had in along time I ordered 2 others from Amazon and they were returned because of not working, this one does. It bagged up links sausages as well as moose meat. I usually portion out my ground burger on a cookie sheet and freeze for 4-6 hours Then I seal it so that the blood does not run amuck.. works great. As for soup I freeze it in a small square plastic freezer container it solid, then remove to a Food saver bag and seal. Try this it works.
This machine will get use because I buy in bulk and want the things in the freezer to stay fresh. I recommend this machine for moderate to heavy processing of your game meat or Whole sale ware house purchases

This was awesome for a couple of fall and winters harvesting meat. But it completely stopped working one day, it will not power up I've tried both ways several times. Went to vac seal some fish and it wouldn't work anymore. Disappointed it only lasted 2 years.
