Questions about Smoke Daddy Big Kahuna Cold Smoke Generator
Q:
Hi, is your smoke generator ce/ul/etl certified?
Answer: The air pump is CE certified. As best I can tell, the canister has no such certification and I would guess none are required as it only contains the wood chips.
Answer: I don’t know. But if you’re worried about electric components, the only thing that is plug in is the small air pump. This air pump is no larger than one used in a small aquarium.
Q:
Can this be attached to a wood smoking shed?
Answer: I suppose it could though you’d want to be careful to insulate the inlet pipe if it’s passing through wood since it gets very hot. Also, the capacity might be an issue as this only provides enough smoke for a medium sized smoker and then only for about 30 min per fill.
Answer: I don't see why not as long as you consider the heat of the smoke tube. It gets very hot.
Answer: Yes it can be used in a smoker shed
Answer: You can attach to any given survace base on the thickness of the materials employed.
Answer: I don' think it It would hold enough chips. It makes a lot of smoke but would need to be filled often
Answer: Im going to say yes as long as its not going to be a fire hazard and you have a place to put your pump out of the weather. I would get the biggest one they have though.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Where is it made?
Answer: This is 100% made in the USA.
Answer: USA made
Q:
I am considering this but I’m a little scared to drill a hole in the side of my new $950 Traeger. Is it easy to drill through the sidewall with a sta
Answer:
Answer:
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I felt the exact same way about drilling a hole in my brand new Traeger, but I've never regreted it. I installed it in front of my hopper below the grate line for easy access and monitoring. It works fantastic for smoking meats, but I especially like it for cold smoking cheeses and salmon. Plus, you can use the Traeger without it with no issue.
Answer: I have mine on Aluminum gas grill. The aluminum was easy to drill.
Q:
How long is the outlet morning tube. That is how thick of a service will it goes through as I am planning on moaning it to a homemade refrigerator smo
Answer: About three feet long, and quite thick. It would be no problem to replace with whatever length you needed. Tubing is readily available at hardware or pet stores.
Q:
Is the only difference in the different models the canister size? Does one provide more smoke than the other?
Answer: Yes, I have the Big Kahuna that I setup on my 3 burner Frontline BBQ grill from Costco. I do 14-16lb Bristket with no problems, more than enough smoke.
Answer: Yes the canister is larger... and produces smoke longer... and xN fill a larger capacity smoker, but if you are building a smaller unit then that should suffice. I make cold smokers with these units out of wine boxes or add them to gas bbqs to add that much needed smoke.
Answer: They all put out the same amount of smoke. The larger ones just hold more wood chips and chunks. Thanks -Liz
Q:
How do I get replacement parts for the Big Daddy cold smoker?
Answer: Go to smokedaddyinc.com and find
Answer: Have you contacted the manufacturer? There website should have a link for parts.
Answer: contact manufacturer
Q:
How many watts is the air pump ?
Answer: 4W. It is a Chinese company brand name Luby model AP-9803.
Q:
Does the cold smoke generator or the heavy-D diffuser produce better smoke? Not quantity but quality smoke.
Answer: It is best smoker I ever used awesome product!!!
Answer: Yes
Q:
Any problems using this on a green mountain with the pellet fan ?
Answer: You can use the Smoke Daddy on anything that you can mount it on. You just have to drill a hole to place it through. It could be a task can. It doesn't matter. As far as a pellet fan, as long as it would blow through the approximately 1/4" air tube that is connected to the Smoke Daddy, it would be fine. If not, I would use a cheap variable pressure aquarium pump like Smoke Daddy supplies in their kit. The unit works great and will give you more than enough smoke for anything. Sometimes I don't even use the pump/fan because it will put out enough smoke without it. Hope this helps.
Q:
will this alone create enough heat for a smoke daddy fridge smoker without using other heat source for 120 degree cold smoking?
Answer: There is not enough heat, in fact basically none. I have the Big Kahuna attached to an old Costco 3 burner grill, so no insulation or controlled air enclosure (apples vs oranges). You might get some heat with an insulated enclosure. Also, figure 20 mins max of smoke unless using thick chunks, not near long enough for consistent temps as a solo source. I run my pump at Mid setting. It makes smoke like CRAZY!
Answer: I can't definitively answer your question, because I've never used it in that configuration. I installed this unit in an insulated vertical LP smoker, and it does not seem to heat the interior of my smoker cabinet very much at all.
Q:
Can it be used on a traeger
Answer: Yes this will work on your Traeger
Answer: Yes, it can be used on any BBQ or smoker. It just adds the smoke to the cooking chamber, not heat, so you control the amount of smoke you want.
Answer: Yes, this is what my husband uses on his traeger and he really likes it.
Answer: Yes. Just make sure to mount it in front of the hopper, underneath the cooking grates.
Q:
Can i get a longer outlet tube if needed?
Answer: Yes, hardware or pet stores. The air pump is for aquariums.
Q:
Do you sell any cold smoke generator that can go on 5 hours or longer on single load ?
Answer: that would be awesome but i dont think the sell one that big.
Q:
Use with rec tech?
Answer: You can use the smoke daddy with anything all you need to do is drill a hole put the smoke daddy in and your good to go. It's cold smoke your rec tech will give the heat and your daddy will give the smoke. I put mine in a treager big difference between pellets and wood chunks that's what I put in my daddy. I would buy the biggest one I thought I was than realized there was one bigger it will smoke longer
Answer: Yes I have had many people use it with a rec Tech
Answer: Yes
Q:
How long does a full load of pellets lasts. Anyone tried chunks instead of pellets? Thanks.
Answer: Hi a full load of pellets will last about 4 hrs. Actually I recommend using wood chunks and chips. They wont last as long but you will get a better quality of smoke. Using wood chunks and chips it will burn for about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs on a full load.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I do not use the spring shaped baffle and only pellets. I get about an hour to an hour and a half. I have not used chunks since the chamber is not large enough to use them easily. When I use chips the fuel lasts about a half hour. I 'll add the chips create messy creosote in the air tube. After a lot of experimentation, I personally use just pellets and it works well.
Q:
Has anyone used this product on a Cuban oven?
Answer: Not really sure what a Cuban oven is. This product is easy to use, reliable, and pours enough smoke out for my commercial application!
Q:
what is the spring for in the smoke daddy?
Answer: It allows air to flow to the bottom of the device and it works great!! When filling the Smoke Daddy with pellets try not to let any get inside that spring.
Answer: To keep an airway open between the bottom smoltering mass and the top. Without the spring the wood chips could align such that there is no air flow.
Answer: The spring is to provide separation down into the wood chips so they get air to burn
Answer: Air flow; if you use material (some pellets) that are too dense you'll have difficulty keeping it going. At least in my experience.
Answer: It is for air flow. It can go anywhere inside just put your wood chips around it.
Answer: It simply created space or an air pocket for your wood chips so that there is good air flow
Answer: It provides air flow through the chamber and keeps things lit.
Answer: Allows air thru the chips and helps prevent bridging
Answer: That is to give ventilation to the pellets. Help the pellets burn better
Q:
How long is the warranty?
Answer: I don't know.it sure puts out alot of smoke.
Q:
Can it be used on the pit bosses
Answer: Yes it will fit your Pit Boss
Answer: Mark - Yes you can use it with any type of smoker......I had a propane smoker which I used mine on, but sold it since then......I use an Oklahoma Joe smoker now, I don't need it with this on but you could if you wanted.....
Answer: Yes it will fit on your Pit boss.
Answer: I put mine in a treager and it works good
Q:
will it work with 220V?
Answer: We do offer 220V air pumps. Just put in the note to seller that you would like the 220V pump. Thank you -Liz
Answer: The pump supplied will not. However, it’s just a standard fish aquarium pump so your local pet store should have a 220v version. The important parts of the kit are all the custom canister and fittings for the smoke.
Answer: No, its an aquarium pump that uses U.S 115 volts. You could find an Aquarium pump that uses 220.
Answer: No not the pump that comes with it. Its 120v
Q:
Smoke daddy's web sight said you need a special part for the green mountain pellet grill what's the part
Answer: Hi Using it on a green mountain you may need an extra pump with a T fitting to run 2 pumps The green Mountain makes back pressure. Sometimes you can crack the lid a littel to reduce the back pressure and you can use 1 pump.
Q:
What is the temp of the smoke when being used for cold smoking?
Answer: The smoke coming out of this unit will not raise the ambient temperature of your smoker.
Answer: When I cold smoke, i usually don't go over 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Answer: About 5 degrees above ambient
Q:
Is it easy to insall, can it be set up to be moved between 2 different appliances?
Answer: Standard installation is easy requiring a step drill bit to make the correct hole in the grill. The threaded tube, washers and nuts hold it in place.
Answer: You probably could, but it won’t be easy or quick. Especially once you’ve used it awhile and all the pipe threads are hooped up and sooty. I would not try it.
Answer: You'll need to cut a 1 inch circular hole in your appliance to attach the smoker. I cut the pipe that emits the smoke into the appliance in half, and used a plumbing union and a short pipe nipple to allow me to easily transfer smoker from one appliance to another.
Answer: All it takes to install is a hole that you drill, yes it could be moved from one unit to another easily as long as it is installed in a convenient location.
Answer: Super easy to install.
Answer: It’s pretty much a permanent install. You have to cut a hole in your smoker and mount this in the hole with the supplied hardware.
Answer: Yes it's simple really. Drill a hole stick it in and put the retaining nut on
Q:
Does this product support 110/220v power?
Answer: We do have the 220v pumps available upon request
Answer: The Smoke Daddy requires no power whatsoever.
Answer: 110 power
Answer: just 110
Answer: 110v for the pump or you can use the smoke daddy by itself.
Answer: No electricity needed. It's simply a container that you fill with chips and burn. No fan.
Q:
Does this unit come with the adjustable air pump?
Answer: Yes, you will not be disappointed :). We have attached it to our SS BBQ and use it all the time. The wood chucks only last 20-30 mins, that is the only bummer. Still love it cause reloading is easy and if you use seasoned wood there is no buildup. You will not regret buying this if you set it up as instructed. You must have a verticle surface perpendicular to the grill so that when Smoke Daddy is attached the smoke comes in under the grill.
Answer: Hi Yes it comes with the adjustable air pump
Answer: Yes, it does......It is a fish tank air pump.....You'll love it, it works great.....Only thing is when you use it again it has a black tar which makes the lid hard to take off....But I would buy it again......Ron
Answer: Yes it does. I have purchased 8 units to date and it produces a lot of smoke and burns clean. The air pump is adjustable to help control the amount of smoke
Answer: yes works great for the first container of chips on high have to reload many times the more you reload the more trouble it is to keep burning
Answer: yes and this smoker works Great
Answer: Yes it does
Q:
Is it good to smoke peppers? Any experience?
Answer: Have never done any, but anything you can smoke in your smoker should be fine with the smoke daddy. We generally just do meats.
Answer: me 73 experience 50 yrs even build my own yes good for peppers when it works would not buy again
Answer: I attached mine to my Traeger to get a better smoke profile. I tried chips, chunks, pellets and charcoal with the same results. I get an abundance of nasty creosote in my smoker and on whatever I'm smoking. The concept is ingenious and the product is well made. I just couldn't get it to work as advertised. I would not purchase again.
Q:
Can you use this for hot smoking? If so, how?
Answer: Hi yes you can use it for hot or cold smoking. For hot smoking just attach it to your regular grill. Light your grill till your desired temperature. Then like to smoke Daddy and the Smoke Daddy will provide the extra smoke you are looking for. Thanks Dennis
Answer: this is great for hot or cold smoking. Here's a good tip. make sure the stream of smoke is not directly over your food it will be too much smoke on your meats. Like previous answer make sure it's lower part of smoker.
Answer: Yes, this is for hot or cold smoking.....Put it in the lower part of your smoker and smoke as usual and add wood chips or pellets to the smoke generator...... Works grate.....It's a good buy.....Ron
Q:
What is the spring baffle used for and where does it get installled?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Put the spring in and fill with chips /pellets .
Answer: Not really a baffle per se. The spring separates the charcoal briquettes and wood pellets to allow proper air flow. Pellets produce way more smoke than wood chunks by the way! I use my big Kahuna in a commercial application and couldn’t be happier with it!
Answer: The spring goes inside the cylinder any which way and the wood chips go in covering it. It is for air flow. I love my Smoke Daddy. It works great for cold smoking cheese.
Q:
Is this big enough to supply a 2'x4'x5' Internal smoke chamber?
Answer: Yes it will provide plenty of smoke for you smoker
Answer: Yes it will provide plenty of smoke for you smoker
Answer: Easily
Q:
Would any of you recommend this for the small treager junior grill? I'm thinking this is way to much volume, but I ask the current owners.
Answer: Hi Brad, yes I would either recommend the Big Kahuna or the 8 Inch cold smoker. The biggest difference is smoking time. The big kahuna will smoke for about 1 1/2 hours on 1 fill and the the 8 Inch will last 45min on 1 fill. They do come with an adjustable air pump in order to dial down the smoke output. Either one would work great for the Traeger Jr. The Big Kahuna is our most popular size.
Answer: I have a regular smoker - not a pellet grill/smoker so I've not used a Treager Jr grill. The Smoke Daddy works great and you can control the amount of smoke with the amount of wood chips and the volume of air flowing from the aquarium pump.
Answer: The unit has a volume control so you can greatly reduce the air flow. Personally I usually want max smoke so I run at max vol. If you are thinking of a smoke generator I think you will be satisfied with this unit.
Answer: Absolutely! Make sure you "burn it off" first. This unit will allow you to "cold smoke" food - like cheeses that can't take the heat. Also - it will provide smoke augmentation for your treager! Think of it as - more smoke when you need/want it - leave it off when you dont!
Answer: Brad, This smoke generorator will put out as small of smoke as you may want or as large as you want......If you use it like they say......I love mine....I will say one thing make sure you have flowing smoke and not block it in as that is not good.....Good Luck........Ron
Answer: First of all, I guess I dont understand why you want a smoke generator on a pellet grill. The pellet grill should put out plenty of smoke on its own.
Answer: This unit puts out a lot of smoke. I have a large cabinet smoker and had to increase the size of vents. Too much smoke is not good!
Q:
can you install one on a weber 4 burner gas grill, and does it have to be installed on top or bellow burners
Answer: I don't think it matters gas grill or not, because all it does is generate smoke. I would think the lower the better as to recirculate up and out. It might possibly work better below as the creosote is burnt before it attaches to your food. I have had a very negative experience using this with my Traeger. I've tried chips , chunks, charcoal and pellets to only find much creosote build up inside my Traeger and on the meat. I've played with it as suggested by the inventor to maintain " a little fire". I have yet to get the smoke profile I want.
Q:
What type size of tubing is used to connect air pump?
Answer: The tubing is silicone and comes with the smoker.
Answer: 1/8 in ID silicone tubing
Answer: 1/8 "clear tubing
Answer: Small like a fish tank. It comes with it
Answer: 1/4” silicone
Q:
What is the length and diameter of the smoke output tube?
Answer: It is 4" long and you will need to drill a 1 1/8" hole to mount it. Thank you
Q:
With what does the wood burn ? Does it have a resistance?
Answer: You light a fire inside the unit.
Q:
How would you mount it on a ceramic grill like big green egg / kamado joe ?
Answer: That won’t work unfortunately. You would likely destroy the grill.
Q:
How do you control the temperature?
Answer: You really don't control the temperature, it is possible to control it some by how much air flow you allow from the pump but basically it is just designed to let the chips smolder and blow smoke into a cabinet you have the meat in.
Answer: This is just for smoke, you don't control temperature.
Answer: This device supplies smoke only, not heat. It provides smoke to your cooking chamber, whatever kind it is. I adapted mine to my Gas BBQ Grill.
Q:
Produces great smoke, but on my first try i had a bit of creosote (bitter taste) any tips on what my airflow setting should be at?
Answer: I’m not aware of anyway to adjust the airflow. I use pecan pellets exclusively and have not had any problems. You do have to clean the door out of the smoke tube before each use. Great smoke quality. and flavor.
Answer: Research the art of smoking
Answer: It is very easy to give it too much smoke. Set the pump on low
Answer: I mix hickory wood chips and pellets in mine and run the air full power. I had to upgrade air pump. Mine is installed on Green Mountain grill. I only use as a cold smoker
Q:
Is the output hose size 1" like the magnum? Or smaller?
Answer: Hi It is the same size outlet tube as the magnum.
Q:
Is the air pump included in this package?
Answer: Yes, the air pump was included in this package.
Answer: I bought the Big Kahuna and the air pump came with it. It appears from the picture above that the air pump is with it. You'll love this unit. It made my Weber Genesis into quite the smoker! Great product.
Answer: Hi Rick
Answer: Yes, the pump is included and all the hose and fittings. The fittings are installed, all you have to do is slip the silicon tubing on the pump and smoke generator fittings.
Answer: Yes. The blue air pump in the picture came with it.
Answer: some are and some are not read you package carefully.
Answer: Yes. All you need is a hole saw to mount the unit to the side of your smoker. If you really like smoked food you will love this unit.
Answer: Yes, it is and you will love it, it works great......Ron
Answer: Yes and it is variable speed. Runs for long periods with no problems so far.
Answer: Yes
Product reviews of Smoke Daddy Big Kahuna Cold Smoke Generator
Mark Gingras : Lots of smoke!
Just awesome!
David Arnett : Smoke Daddy Big Kahuna Cold Smoke Generator
smoke daddy makes takes the guess work out from having to use chips and hot plate much easier to check to make sure
years ago I converted old fridge into smoker, with dual propane burner at bottom and used cast iron pans with wet chips to smoke, now with the Big Kahuna I have constant smoke easier to check and refill and now my heat is easier to regulate without trying to deal with the hot plate everything cooks faster now.
albert v. pena : Big Kahuna works great!!
The smoke daddy big kahuna works perfect on my GMG Jim Bowie. I've cooked brisket and St. Louis ribs and the smoke daddy gave them that wood smoke taste that I was looking for. Filling the big kahuna with wood chips will give you approximately one hour of smoke. You will have to smoke the meat while the fan is not running, ex. get the temperature to 250 degrees and then drop the temperature to 200, this will stop the fan from running in the GMG, pushing the smoke back out the bottom of your smoke daddy, this is the Only drawback. I did not mount mine in front of the controllers, but on the other side of the pellet hopper.
Castrilper : ADD COLD SMOKE TO ANY GRILL
This rig rocks!!! I use my Weber Genesis grill for smoking rotisserie grilling all kinds of Keats. While the Genesis will cook indirect at about 225 using 2 burners turned all the way down, that downstairs generate enough heat to make smoke.... in comes the big Kahuna cold smoke generator. This unit produces a lot of smoke and pushes it right into the grill. I can now control the grill to smoking temperatures and use this little baby (the big Kahuna) to provide copious quantities of smoke from my favorite smoking chips. I have friends that actually bought professional smokers and still augment the smoke with the big Kahuna as well. I have even cold smoked cheese in my Genesis using the big Kahuna. Love this gadget.
chris martz : This thing smokes.
Attached it to my smoker, filled it with chips, lit it and holy smokes (pun intended) I thought the fire department would come. Super easy to use and all the smoke you could want. 5 STARS
Mary Wisniewski : Burns wood chips fast but makes lot's of smoke
It definitely makes smoke. So far I have had a problem regulating the amount of smoke it puts out. I can adjust it between a lot of smoke and really a lot of smoke. So far I have used a mix of wood pellets and wood chips. It burns down in about 30 minutes. This was my biggest disappointment. "Big Kahuna" sort of implies it was going to last a longer time. I can't imagine how long the smaller units would last. It puts out so much smoke that my cold smoke efforts have been a flop. It tastes like I'm eating cheese recovered from a building fire. I now use mostly to complement my Weber WSM with the "Big Daddy Pellet Pro." The Pellet Pro has a fan that keeps the pellets burning, it also pressurizes the grill. The Big Kahuna has to be turned up high enough to overcome this pressure, which is basically high. So the wood chips burn down very quickly. After all the effort the food comes out delicious when I am hot smoking. I keep thinking there is something I can do to get a moderate amount of smoke and have the fuel last more than 30 minutes, but haven't gotten there yet. The unit needs to be cleaned between uses but I don't do all that the instructions say. I just poke a long screw driver through all orifices and scrape out the creosote and I'm good to go. I would recommend it to a smoker enthusiast but it's less than advertised.
Darren L. : Great products and great customer support
Works great !
T. Richmond : Works well but on Green Mountain smokers the internal fan ...
Works well but on Green Mountain smokers the internal fan pushes most of the smoke back into the smoke daddy when pulsing. A bigger fish tank pump would likely overcome this.
Randy T. : Four Stars
Great, other than the backdraft
PBW : You will love the amount of smoke that this things generates.
What a great addition to my Pellet Pro or many other manufactured grills. This is very well constructed, the installation was very easy and only requires a 1 1/16" hole to be drilled on the lower half of your grill/smoker.
I wouldn't end my review without a shout out to Dennis, Dan and Liz; all very professional people who are totally about providing excellent customer support.
I loaded my Big Kahuna up with some hickory just to try it out............WOW, it is amazing and the amount of smoke is incredible. I expected to hear sirens from the local fire station there was so much smoke. If you don't have one and are looking for a way to get additional smoke then you have to consider this cold smoker. I am very glad I ordered this.
agl01 : Five Stars
smoke is great
ed flinn : I love it. easy to use and puts out alot ...
I love it.easy to use and puts out alot of smoke.
T B : Great product
I attached it to a big chief smoker
Works great
rob sold : Makes things way too smokey
I have used it only once and my jerky tasted like a burned tire. I will try it again but I used apple chips because they are mellow, turned the air pump to 1/2 and left the vent in my smoker wide open. The chips lasted about 45 minutes
Sean A Condra : Great customer service
Been using it for a while and its great. Easy to set up and easy to use.
Superb customer service also. I list a piece of mine transporting my grill/smoker to a Girl Scout event and the guys/gals at Smoke Daddy Inc sent me a replacement part for the cost of shipping.
Great people, great product, great value, American made.. Would buy again..
Larry Green : Great product, highly recommended!
An excellent product. I have used it to smoke a lot of good food. It will also work as a cold smoker.

david bouzek : Only Keith Richards smokes more
Used it for smoking kiełbasa/klobása. Pellets last longer compared to wood chips.
Smokes like a signalflare
Demetrio Zago : great addition to your BBQ
great product, turns your BBQ into a fantastic smoker, just got to keep up with frequently adding wood chips which in my case I don't mind since I love to hang around the smoker while is cooking.
TechWatcher : Features of a gas grill with the added intensity of a smoker
Added the cold smoker to my gas grill. Re moved the side burner as there is one on both sides for concealing the smoker and giving easy access to to the unit. Still experimenting with the best material for long sustaining smoke. So far I am impressed with the addition to the grill.
david bouzek : Only Keith Richards smokes more
Used it for smoking kiełbasa/klobása. Pellets last longer compared to wood chips.
Smokes like a signalflare
K. Valentine : Update on cleaning the Smoke Daddy
I have a Big Kahuna and it works great. I like less smoke and therefore prefer to smoke for a longer time. I think the real thick smoke can generate too much tar and creosote. I don't mind adding more chips every hour or so.
The unit will have to be cleaned occasionally as some smoke tars condense on the walls and on the ventilation spring. And being the tars are hydrocarbons, they don't dissolve in water. I found the very best way to clean the unit it to use a liquid drain cleaner which is lye or sodium hydroxide. I use a cheap plastic bottle brush and a tall glass jar filled with drain cleaner. Dip in the bottle brush and swish it around the unit and the tars dissolve instantly. You can do this in your kitchen sink and the liquids that are washed off will serve to help keep the drains clear.
CLEANING UPDATE:. I used it twice in the last few days - once for cold-smoked salmon and once for bacon. There unit ran for about 12 hours without cleaning . There was quite a bit of wood tar in the body, on the ventilation spring and on the top cap. The approach above was dissolving the tar, but wasn't too fast as the build-up was thick. But the drain cleaner does a good job in cutting thru the tar. So I decided to let the cleaner do the work by letting the Smoke Daddy soak in it. I took off all the parts including the venturi hooked up to the air pump, and soaked it lying sideways in an inexpensive clear plastic shoe box. As a chemical engineer, there is a slight chemical reaction between the aluminum body and the lye, but it will not harm the very thick walls of the smoke daddy. They will be a slight surface color change. After it sits in the drain cleaner a few hours, the tars are mostly dissolved and what's left can be easily removed with the stainless steel brush that comes with the unit.
As there's still cleaning power in the used drain cleaner, I'll pour what's left into our sink drains to keep them clear.

Works Great!
M Long : This is a fabulous cold smoke generator!
The Traeger by itself can't generate enough smoke on its own to truly be a "smoker." I attached this to my Traeger, and it works fabulously!! The installation process was straight forward, and it's very easy to use. I highly recommend it if you have a grill/smoker that doesn't generate enough smoke.
Chuck : Five Stars
Great product. Worked just as advertised.

chris martz : This thing smokes.
Attached it to my smoker, filled it with chips, lit it and holy smokes (pun intended) I thought the fire department would come. Super easy to use and all the smoke you could want. 5 STARS
JEFFERY K HUNTER : Exactly what I was looking for, provides the volume of smoke needed to make authentic smoke BBQ in a propane grill!
Installation involved more work than I first thought. I had fixed shelves on both ends of STAINLESS STEEL propane BBQ. The unit would not install as required in the back as I had first hoped. Ended up cutting 4x4" square out of end shelf to install. Turned out better than expected! 1st use of unit not what I expected but noticed smoke was "leaking" out backside of chamber. Had to add a panel of sheet metal to reduce opening to cooking chamber but was easy to do. Smoke volume is enormous! Completely fills cooking chamber. If you are a "fixit" type you can add to anything and boy is it worth it! I can now cold smoke in my BBQ! I cold smoke all burgers and steaks before grilling now and the taste is incredible! Worth every dollar spent! This thing works as advertised. Have the Big Kahuna and wood chunks from local store smokes for 30 mins. Just lift top and add more to keep smoke goingI I ndisagree with other reviews regarding cleanup. Build-up is no different than other smokers I've used and keeping it "like new" is a waste of time. The only piece that needs an occasional "brush" is the port in the brass colored elbow that provides air from pump to increase smoke volume. Also in my BBQ The smoke inlet is below the burners by 3/4" and works just as well with burners on or off so don't know why they say it needs to be even or above. My BBQ is 20+ yrs old SS rectangular propane unit so maybe other designs have issues? If you want clean smoke flavor the same as the big boys this is what you are looking for, works for me! The only requirement is you must have a verticle section of panel at least 1-1/2" to mount to, will not work as intended if you try to mount to a sloped surface.
Vickie : Great product
Great smoker for the Traeger grill. Easy to put on and gives out plenty of smoke. Turned my husband from a Master griller into a Grand master smoker/griller...lol. Well that is my opinion any way. we recommend this if you like the smoky flavor in your meats or basically anything you smoke and grill.
Robert A. Purvis : Best purchase ever!

It works well
J Womelsdorff : My Kahuna finally fell apart...after about 8 years of heavy use
I loved it. Over the years I rethreaded the pipe, replaced the screen with a stainless mesh but it has just given too much to the BBQ Gods and will be buried in the back yard with honors.
I used my daughter's nebulizer air pump after she didn't need it anymore and I even bought a spare on ebay in case that pump went out but it never did. I have done everything with this thing, including bacon and smoked salmon. Smoke Daddy Rocks and I am buying another.

dabblermom : Great, but don't use pellets.
We have the Big Kahuna, which my husband has been very happy with the last couple of years. I notice that Amazon shows people who buy this also buy pellets. The one thing that Smoke Daddy tells you is that they do NOT recommend the use of pellets, just wood chips or chunks. Pellets shouldn't be used due to inefficient burn, which may be the problem for some people who complain about how fast it burns through the fuel.

Just used this for the first time last weekend to smoke turkey breasts. Worked fabulous! Definitely added a better smoked flavor as opposed to using our smoker without it.

Keith S. : Superior smoke flavor without overcooking the meats
I liked that this cold smoke generator provided superior smoke flavor to my meats without cooking them. With my pellet smoker, in order to achieve the same smoky flavor, I would end up overcooking my foods beyond the medium cooking level that my family and I prefer. Cleaning and removing the creosote after each use however, would be the only drawback, but to be expected.
Jerry F. : You will love it!
Finally, I can get great smoke in my Weber Genesis gas grill. The grill is great, but every way I tried before to get decent smoke failed. The Big Kahuna solved that problem. Now I can get an hour or so of smoke from chips and chunks while cooking meats or I can leave the burners all off and cold smoke using just the Big Kahuna. In other words, it makes the smoke independent from the grill burners. You can use either heat or smoke or both.
This opens up a whole new set of possibilities. Now I can even slow-cook ribs for hours and get lots of smoke flavor. Previously, to get smoke it required at least one of the burners to be on strongly and that is too much heat for something like ribs. Problem solved!
The air pump works well as a boost to getting the smoke started and to control the burn inside the Big Kahuna.
You can add more wood while smoking but you may want a pliers to take off the top as the knob on the top can get too hot to handle.
Keep the knob that locks the bottom in place tight or the bottom and sparks could fall to the ground. I would not use this device over flammable surfaces without some protection and continual monitoring. Eventually I will fasten a metal drip pan close under the smoker to catch anything that falls and that should make it safer.
This installed very easily in the Genesis by drilling a 1 1/8" hole in the aluminum back of the grill between two of the flavor bars near the center. It is at a very slight angle, but that is no problem.
Amazon Customer : Pellet grill may cause problems
I have a GMG Daniel Boone pellet grill and I bought the Big Kahuna (BK) to both, boost the smoking capability and have the ability to cold smoke when desired.
It does work. It produces a bunch of smoke and is well made. However, the problem I have is the firebox on my grill has an intermittent fan that clears out the ashes and keeps the fire going. When the fan kicks on, it pushes the smoke out of the bottom of the BK. The only way I can remedy this is to keep a small gap (about 1/4") between the the grill door and the grill. There will be some smoke and heat loss through this gap. but it allows the BK to maintain positive pressure when the firebox fan kicks on.
Perhaps putting the BK in a different location would help alleviate this problem or supplying the BK with a stronger air pump.

This thing is awesome! It only took me about 10minute total to install it on my smoker. It really puts out the smoke. I am very well satisfied with it. I actually have to be careful not to get too much smoke in the cabinet.
Edward S : It does make a lot of smoke!
This thing does make smoke! And, from every type of smoke source you have left over from your last smoke generator: Sticks, Chunks, Biscuits, Pellets, etc. If I was gonna assign one negative it would be the top handle gets VERY hot. You need a hot pad to remove top to add more wood.

Dustin C Turley : Great smoker
I love the amount of smoke this thing generates. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to bbq, or smoke meat.
Kindle Customer : Money well spent
I usually dont write reviews...but this thing is awesome. Hooked up to my traeger pro 575, easy to install only took 10 min. Had smoke 5 min later. Works great, quality product...used it several times over the weekend and the food tastes great...only regret is not buying the bigger size
Dogzofhell : It is absolutely awesome!!
Woohoo.........I saw this on Youtube a long time ago, I've been trying to make my own but after failed attempts I caved in and bought this one. It is absolutely awesome!!! I added it to my vertical smoker and cold smoke with it. It is a nice add on during regular smoking as well. It uses minimal smoking materials compared to my offset smoker. I am extremely impressed with this smoke generator.
