- GOURMET CONFECTION OF WOODS - Our wood chip smoking fuel is hand crafted from woods, herbs, spices and teas meticulously designed to complement the most exotic of taste. Our woods are air dried for 18 to 24 months or kiln dried to 8% humidity, then shaved to a fine rolled leaf, flake or fine chunks, the optimal composition for the extraction of culinary flavor for smoke infusions. Answer: The only portion of the foghat that has any finish on it is the top of the top where the foghat logo is. That portion should never come in contact with the torch or the burning fuel.

what is the mesh guard for?
Answer: The mesh guard is to hold the fuel chips tight into the smoker so they burn properly and force the smoke out
Answer: The wood chips sit in the mesh container, which keeps the chips below the rim of the glass and prevents them from falling into the drink. Ignite the chips and place the wood cover over top to let the smoke seep into the drink.

Where can I get more mesh filters?
Answer: They are sink strainers! you can pick them up at a hardware store that sells plumbing supplies (they do come in different sizes). I found them at bargain discount store near me (Ollies).
Answer: we have replacement screens available for sale on Amazon.

Can you use a kitchen lighter or do you need a butane torch?
Answer: A kitchen torch is more effective because it will light the fuel more quickly and fully in order to allow greater smoke production. A kitchen lighter will light the fuel slowly, so the smoke production will not be as intended.
Answer: Technically you could but a torch is better. A lighter may burn your fingers

Answer: The Bourbon Barrel Oak wood shavings come with the kit.

Does it work with a rocks glass and a large ice cube?
Answer: It will depend on the height of your glass and the size of the cube. It is best if the foghat can sit comfortably on the rim of the glass, so if the ice cube is in the way of that or the glass isn't tall enough, it may not work correctly.

Do I have to use the wood chips or could I use my own mix of spices to create different types of smoke?
Answer: You can burn whatever you choose, however, different materials will burn differently and smoke differently. So using things other than wood or wood based materials may not smoke the same way from the foghat, and you should be careful that you are only using food safe materials to burn

Can other non-fog hat chips be used withe fog hat? Or only the ones made by them?
Answer: You can use any kind of chips in the Fog Hat and it works just fine.

what is the maximum diameter glass this will fit?
Answer: The diameter of the top of hte smoker is approximately 4". However, there is slight variation on each since they are hand made, so the largest glass diameter would be approximately 3 3/4".

What should I do if all the smoke seems to be escaping the glass?
Answer: The smoke should stay in the glass as long as the foghat is on top of the glass. The time the smoke will stay in the glass depends on several factors... how much smoke is in the glass and the air flow around the glass after the foghat is removed.

First, I will say that the item works.
The reason for my rating is that the item arrived with a chip on the bottom that will likely affect the lifespan of the item. I attempted to contact the sellers to see how they would prefer me to return this but I have not received any response. If they are charging $60 for this, I expect it to be of equal quality.

This is my second purchase for a cocktail smoker. It is easy to use and my guests raved about the flavor.
Morgan : Doesn’t work
I didn’t consider it at first, but the holes on the side make this nearly impossible to get enough smoke to make it worth your time. There are no holes on the bottom, so you have to hope the smoke pours in from the sides, but it barely does. The hole that you put the chips in is also very wide which takes away the jetting effect of the smoke to travel out the little holes on the side. Majority of the smoke just rises up out of the opening unless you continue to use an entire canister of wood chips. I even considered drilling holes through the bottom and putting a typical sink screen, but again, the opening is so wide that a normal sink screen would just slide all over the place. I also ended up with debris in my drink since the screen they give you leaves room for the debris to travel through the holes and into your drink. Not a very thought through product al together.
