Answer: I think you can but more from the manufacturer.

How do I buy more trays?

Answer: You would need to contact the manufacturer. But keep in mind the more trays you add the longer you will need to run the machine. You would do better to purchase a second unit or look at getting an industrial model. Or experiment with dehydrating in a microwave or your kitchen oven.

How is the clean up process with this model? Not the trays, I mean the bottom portion where things drip.

Answer: You may wipe the base clean with a damp, soapy dish cloth to clean the base. Keep in mind juices from produce and marinades should be pat dry before placing on the trays to avoid dripping into the motor. This will also shorten the drying time. Answer: My food item does not have any heavy liquid components, so I use a hot soapy sponge to clean mine and just make sure to wring out any excess water before wiping down the base unit. Most dehydrator bases cannot be submerged, so I often use parchment paper to line the bottom as well as the fine screens the unit provides. These make cleanup even easier.

Answer: Clean up is great. I spray hot water as sometimes gooey banana or a few pieces stick. Awesome machine by the way.

However, we do caution you to make sure the meat is patted dry when using a marinade. The juice could drip and come in contact with the motor, shortening the life of the dehydrator. Answer: Made beef jerky a few times came out really good. Took about 8-10 hrs depends on the thickness. Make sure you put it on a baking sheet and in oven like the book days.

How deep are the trays?

Answer: The trays alone for the 06304 Presto® Dehydro® electric food dehydrator measure about 1.5" deep. However, the screen to the top of the tray measures about a half inch. Answer: They are about 1.5 inches from food surface to tray edge. When put together fir use, the trays are stacked opposite each other, so there is about 2-3inches between the bottom of lower tray and bottom of upper tray.

No issues here! Works to the liking of my girlfriend. We’ve dried herbs, cherry tomatoes, bananas, cherries, mango, and apples. You need to figure out the temp and timing. Depending how high you stack it, the lower racks will dry faster than the top, and therefore take longer than recommended in the guide. This isn’t a deal breaker for us. You just place it for longer. Gets the job done! It’s not a quiet dehydrator, but that doesn’t bother us.

Sweetie : The Best

I don’t think this dehydrator is as loud as some other reviewers stated. I absolutely love this dehydrator. I have to soak the trays after each use because the jerky really gets stuck in the corners of each little grid but that’s my only complaint.

I used this to make a few different fruit leathers and fruit chips. The fruit chips turned out great, but the fruit leather was half hard and half runny - very uneven. The trays were placed on eachother correctly, the puree evenly dispursed. And there was no visible gap, so I'm not sure what the issue was.

Sliced fruit/veggies seems okay, but I'm bummed because trying fruit leather was my main reason for getting this machine.

But also this is LOUD. Is louder than an air purifier on high, almost sounds like a washing machine on high spin. Way too loud to have going for 7 hours in my kitchen.

This is a dehydrator for removing the water from vegetables, jerky, fruit, herbs, and spices. I am excited to receive this product for a fair and honest review. I have a much older dehydrator that is on its last legs. We love deer jerky and I just took a batch out of the new dehydrator and it looks great, tastes delicious and was easy to make. The Presto dehydrator was easy to use. It comes with trays, 2 sheets for fruit puree, nonstick screens. You can add more trays. The product has an adjustable thermostat and a digital timer. There is an automatic shut off or a maximum 48 hours. I use a dehydrator through out the summer and fall for dehydrating vegetables, herbs, and during the winter I will be making jerky. I have not tried the fruit roll yet. I realize I could freeze most of the produce and herbs but the taste is much better dehydrated and it takes up much less storage room,.

This does exactly what it's supposed to: dehydrates fruit. The six trays it comes with managed to hold 4 apples cut in 1/4" slices, so what you will be doing is making and enjoying fruit for a few snacks, not really stocking up or preserving lots of produce bought in bulk. You should be expecting that though, since you're looking at a hobby-size dehydrator and not a more commercial one.

My experience is that things dehydrate fairly evenly, provided you rotate trays every once and a while. In particular, despite the square shape fruit leather dehydrates the same from center to corner, so long as you make sure the mix is evenly distributed. If one area is thicker, it will of course take longer.

The Good: We have frustrated with the prices on quality dog treats. So, we decided to make our own. We have been talking about it for a while and decided to pick up the National Presto 06304 Dehydro Digital Electric Food Presto Dehydrator. We are very happy we did. It is extremely easy to use. It comes with plenty of racks. You load your food onto the trays, set the time and temperature, which is extremely easy to do, and let it do it's thing. We picked up chicken livers and hearts, backed them for a little while, then put them in the dehydrator. Let it go for 7-8 hours. When done we had made our quality dog treats. And our dogs loved them.
The Bad: The National Presto 06304 Dehydro Digital Electric Food Presto Dehydrator is not cheap. It is one of those products that if you use over a long period of time, it will pay for it's self. We estimate it will pay of it'self after 10 batches of treats.
The Skinny: Most people use dehydrators fruits, veggies and even herbs. We are planning to do just that. The primary reason we wanted the National Presto 06304 Dehydro Digital Electric Food Presto Dehydrator was to make dog treats. And it could not have worked out any better. I was surprised at how easy it was to use and clean. We only wish we would have started using this product earlier.

I like the programability of the unit, the digital display, and the compact storage of the trays. The trays seem durable and well made. My only complaint is the noise, you don't want to spend your day nearby. It is my first dehydrator and I can't compare the noise to anything else except a hair dryer, which it is a little more noisy than the dehydrator. We ran it empty for the first hour, the plastic smell people complain about here quickly dissipated. This one has small lips in the bottom-fan portion which should keep food bits and liquid out of the motor. Dried some hot peppers with it and they came out well. Pretty even drying in a full machine.

Sawdust Gypsy : Great Dehydrator

I have had this over a month now and have run it 2 to 3 times a week at 160 degrees to process candy. Each time this has done an excellent job at dehydrating. It took a little to adjust how I use the space it offers to get the best results, but I find this with all dehydrators and this is the fifth model I have bought in over 30 years. My product is heavy in sugar and moisture, so getting it dry enough for storage and sale is extremely important, and this unit did an excellent job at it.

We have been using this dehydrator for a couple of weeks now. This dehydrator has met/exceeded our expectations so far. The first thing we used it for was to dry some king oyster mushrooms I had gotten for a good price, and I am very pleased with how they came out. It's easy to clean, and I like that it's square. Gives it more dehydrating area, or at least it seems that way. I recommend this unit, especially if you're new to dehydrating food (as we are). Very intuitive and easy to use all the way around.

Okay, once again I will say that I'm not an obsessed prepper type, but I do feel that being prepared is a good thing. I have a go bag for emergencies that has a water purifier just in case, firestarter, even a very lightweight 3-season sleeping bag that is in a tiny bag on a carabiner attached to my go bag. That being said, having some dried food in vacuum-sealed bags is definitely something I now can rotate through my go bag. Dried apples and bananas, jerky and some dried squash chips along with a bag of rice and quinoa - I have decent meals with "fresh" foods! This dehydrator works amazingly well, but of course, the one thing you can't count on is how drying times can change based on the relative humidity level at the time you are trying to dry stuff. Just the way Mother Nature does things...so you may have to add a few minutes of dry time or if it happens to be a very low humidity day, really watch whatever you are drying near the end of the recommended time. Best to be safe than sorry, right? Last, it is a quick breeze to dry herbs and spices. I have an aquaponic herb garden that just goes crazy every few weeks. I cut down the three basil plants, stripped off the leaves and crisped them in this dehydrator. Wow - fresh herbs, too! I like the low-profile storage of this machine as well. Great, great item!

When the Vine Program offered me this food hydrator, I knew my son might be interested, since he loves his beef jerky, which he has always had to purchase commercially. The following are his thoughts:

The Presto Dehydro digital electric dehydrator is a great tool for making dried foods. The digital temperature reading is great in givin the best control of temperature and time you want to use the Dehydro at. I am using this to make beef jerky which I am new at. Being able to set the temperature should be helpful in creating a consistent jerky. The instruction manual also gives some starting recipes for jerky to give newbies an idea of where to begin!

The dehydro comes with 6 drying trays which is a decent amount to get the consistency of the jerky dialed in. You can then purchase up to 6 more trays to add even more space to the unit.

I haven't attempted drying herbs, but the dehydro does come with specific trays for smaller items like this so they don't fall through the holes.

One of the best parts of this unit is different ways to stack the trays for storage. You can basically cut the storage space in half when you are not using it. 4-stars
