Does this have a release button like a dog leash?

Answer: No, the rope is pre tensoned and there's no locks. I love mine

do you have to reel it? or is there a button?

Answer: It's automatic. You clip it on your bow and climb up to the stand. As you climb up the weight of the bow automatically keeps it on the ground and the line spools out with a slight amount of tension to keep it tight. Once in the stand, you simply pull the bow up and the line automatically reels in as you pull in your bow. It's really pretty nice. I always refused to buy one and used a rope but after borrowing a friend of mine's because climbing in his stand is extremely difficult, after using it once I ordered one. It's nice, compact, and works well.

Answer: It's spring loaded so it automatically retracts as you pull your weapon up to your elevated position. Remember to never pull a firearm up to you with the muzzle pointed up for obvious safety reasons. I lay my rifle or shotgun down & attach the line to the buttstock end of my sling. I quickly lift it to prevent dirt from the barrel. If you can secure the line to the middle of your sling, that would be even better. If you leave your bolt open, you can safely pull it up with the muzzle up.

Answer: The string well automatically retract as you lift your item. The weight of the item pulls the string out. It worked so well for me I have two. One for my gun and one for my backpack.

Answer: Dont know the diameter but it's really small

what are the dementions of the case

Can you open the casing and replace the line on this unit? The cord seems quite thin and fragile.

Answer: Cord is very sturdy.

The product is huge. I was hoping to clip it to my bag or my suit somewhere but it is way too big. It would be nice in a permanent tree stand I suppose, but wasn't what I was looking for.

Use it today for the first time and will not retract all the way. I used it pull my bow up to my stand. I have to wrap the last foot around the reel. It works but since this is the first time, the quality is low.

I use on my kayak crate for my anchor line. Great that it winds back up so you don't have rope by your feet. Heavy duty! Just make sure your crate is secure to your kayak lol

I actually used this as an anchor rope for my kayak. I mounted it on the side and attached my anchor to the end. It works great and seems very well made.
