What is the size of the vent?

Answer: The vents are 2 7/8"

How come there are metal tabs on the bottom of the damper near the openings?wouldn't that prevent the damper from fully turning and scratch the smker?

Mine did not come with any instructions. What size hole do I drill into the smoker for this damper?

Answer: If I recall correctly the center hole is approximately 1/4 in. I used a multi drill bit and smallest drill is same as hole in damper. Make sure you stick the damper on the drill bit before you drill hole to make sure it is correct size. Once drilled and damper is secured with the nut and bolt and you have it positioned where you want it, take a pencil or nail and scribe the holes so if you remove the damper you have the holes to work with. Make and "X" or cross and center punch that center mark on all three then drill to the size you need using multi drill bit. I left my dampers in place and holes are perfect.

to be use replacing old vents on Weber products. Can be used to modify any grill or smoker that doesn't have vents. need 1/4 inch drill for thru bolt and you would need a uni drill bit to make the vent holes. Worked great for my Brinkmann smoker.
