⛵⚓Seas the Day⚓⛵ : Traditional Style Stringer with Stainless Steel Construction

My husband and boys like to fish but we really didn’t have a way to keep the fish if we didn’t eat them right away. The Hunter's Tail Fish Stringer is a traditional style stringer where you can hook the fish onto and keep them alive hanging in the water. My Dad always had one of these so it brings back fond memories but this one really seems superior because of the stainless steel construction.

P. MSakamoto : Heavy Duty stringer with great features

This stringer is heavy duty enough to hang 50 pounds or more of fish on it. It is super overkill for my normal trout fishing. In the photo I upoaded, you can see a four pound trout I hung from it - which is no challenge at all.

I know I could hang a few salmon off of this unit with the only issue being the strength to lift it.

Some of the great features:
1. Stainless steel.
2. Clips are big enough to clear the jaw of a good sized fish and have spring closures that do not necessitate the user having super strong hands to open and close them, as the "safety pin" type clips on lesser units need.
3. The clips slide on the stringer which is great for putting live catch into the water for preservation and staking the other end of the cable onto the shore or tying it off on your boat.
4. There is a small orange float to keep the end in view if it is in the water. It is not buoyant enough to hold up a few pounds weight, though. I think it is more like a way to have something to grab for if it goes over the side accidentally.
5. Doesn't tangle because of the cable vs. chain construction.

I like this a lot and it is my go-to stringer.

My brother is the family fisherman. Initially he was dubious about this stringer but after a fishing trip he came back a believer. It is easy to use, surpringly sturdy and functional. The stainless stelel is strong and durable. He was certain it would be a twited mess that he would have to untangle but there was no twisting or tangling at all. Well designed and well made it truly is a fisherman's friend.

Michael : NOT for catfish over 5lbs.

Do not use this for catfish over 5lbs. I have lost 2 catfish both being just the only fish on the stringer. The spring that is supposed to secure the hook failed when the fish barrel rolls and the hook opens. I will try once again and this time securing with a zip tie before throwing it in the back of the closet. The size of the hooks are great and fit a 12lb flathead catfish no problem BUT this thing is hardly Heavy Duty by any stretch.

We were so excited about this stringer. It was plenty long enough for where we go and tie off and the snaps were great for every catfish we got, small or huge. The cabling was strong and didn't make us worry it might snap. The floater was a great addition so we could see where the fish were while we continued. The spring for the snaps was a little different for us, but was very secure and we didn't have concerns that any fish might get away.

Unfortunately, after the first use, we ran into two major problems. The first one is that the coating around the cable was already stripping off near the bottom where all the fish had collected while we hauled them in. This caused the snaps to not slide along it right and we had to strip back quite a lot just to get the snaps to move further away the next time we brought it out. But now this has us concerned about how much longer it'll last with bare cable, and we have to use gloves each time we handle it.

The second is the swivels that attach the snaps to the cable. The same night we used it for the first time, it sat in the truck while we drove back for about 20 minutes, then hung the fish and filleted for about three hours. In total, from when it was first put in the water with the first fish to after filleting, rinsing it off and putting it back together in the bag was probably around 10 hours. We took it out a couple days later when we went out again and the swivels are already rusting. Badly. We used it again as our only other choice was a much smaller stringer that wouldn't have held much and thankfully it didn't break on us. But we're already scouting out a different stringer, as we can't be sure how much longer those swivels will hold up.

All in all, it could potentially be a fantastic product if the coating around the cable could hold up much better to heavier weights and the swivels were either changed out with ones that won't rust out or coated in something that keeps them from rusting. As of now, we're just disappointed.

I bought this stringer and just finally started using it! Today was the second time I actually got a fish to put on it. I put a 22" and a 25" redfish on two of the clips and secured it to my kayak. I pulled up the stringer to set the fish in my yak to move spots and found the clip that the 25" Redfish was on OPEN and EMPTY! I was furious! I do not recommend buying this stringer. It takes a lot of effort to catch fish just to be let down by the piece of equipment that you trust to keep your fish secure.

Just got back from a trip in Canada. This stringer did a great job of keeping multiple of species on the line. The orange float was also a great visual before moving spots on the lake.

We were allowed 8 Northerns and this stringer easily handled the load.

The quality seems quite good. After using the stringer on a canoe trip, I did come across some annoying problems. First, I wish it came with more clips as it didn't take long to fill up. 8-10 clips total would be a nice addition. Secondly the total length of the stringer gets annoying real fast. The black spooler used to wrap the stringer around has no locking point to keep the string from unspooling and getting tangled on everything. wouldn't be an issue if the stringer was 6feet instead of 15feet.

This works, but I think it'snot going to last for long. The materials just have that cheap feel. It has been fine for a couple fishing trips, but next to the old one my grandfather passed down, I don't think it will hold up for long!
