Product Description
In 1990, founder Ty Measom found himself both frustrated and inspired with the size and quality of the outdoor cooking equipment available. He set out to create a product that was both portable and powerful. After countless hours of brainstorming, engineering, and tinkering, the Pro60 was born—and along with it—a company to pioneer the camp-cooking industry. The simple, yet durable design was applauded by outdoorsmen everywhere. Since then we’ve added griddles and grill box attachments, a variety of cast iron pieces, and more recently—pellet grills. Over the past 30 years, our product line has expanded, but our objective remains the same—provide a better way to cook outdoors.
We’ve raised the steaks in the outdoor cooking industry. So, we challenge you to ask yourself if your cooking equipment is tough enough for the task. Whether you’re barbecuing on the back patio or backpacking in Bolivia—delicious food is attainable despite your coordinates. So, get out there. Make memories with the people you love. Experience the beauty of nature. Feed your outside however you want with the durability, versatility, portability, and power of Camp Chef.
Anyone can cook deliciously smoked food with the smaller, portable design of the Pursuit Pellet Grill.
The Pursuit is the perfect cooking companion from the balcony to the backcountry.

Questions about Camp Chef 20" Pursuit Portable Pellet Grill, PPG20, Black, Stainless, Total Rack Surface Area: 501 sq. in
Q:
are the grill grates stainless steel or just steal that is chromed?
Answer: They are stainless steel
Answer: I believe they are stainless steel.
Answer: Still covered in chrome but the grill is great yeah that’s the last thing I would worry about enjoy it
Q:
How do you empty the hopper when you want to switch from Pecan to Apple pellets?
Answer: I use a “Bucket Head “ shop vac from Home Depot. It’s sucks the pellets out easily and you can buy lids and extra buckets w labels to store the pellets until you’re ready for them again. You should probably dedicate that shop vac for that purpose. It would be a whole lot cooler if they’d just put in a dump.
Answer: A lot of folks us a small battery vacuum like a dewalt or craftsman and dedicate it for grill pellets only, that way the pellets can be reused. I use my hand and scoop them out. Only takes a couple minutes.
Answer: There is no pellet dump when you want to change. That cost more $$ with a more expensive model.
Answer: It is not easy to get the pellets out. I just keep the minimum amount in on the previous cook and add the new pellets to the next cook.
Answer: How was do the pellets dispense? I just used this and I feel it’s very sluggish. Does anyone have a video.
Answer: That's the only draw back. you have to take out the protective grate and remove by hand I left out the grate no small children around.
Q:
Does it use propane for grilling?
Answer: No. Strictly a wood pellet smoker/grill.
Answer: It uses wood pellets but you need to plug it into an outlet or a generator or an inverter.
Answer: No There is an element that lights the pellets and the pellet burn cooking ribs tomorrow morning all day
Answer: NO... Strictly PELLETS ONLY.
Answer: No. Wood Pellets.
Answer: We do not use it
Q:
Does it come with a grill cover?
Answer: It was supposed to come with one but it did not They did make It right now right They send us a check for $80
Answer: No. However, there is a specifically designed/manufactured cover available for purchase through Camp Chef. I purchased one and it is of high quality material and workmanship. I would highly recommend it.
Answer: No but you can buy one from Camp Chef / or just make one with a tarp. Love mine.
Answer: NO, but the customer service is fantastic.
Answer: No, because it collapses down and stores away you don’t need one.
Answer: No
Answer: No.
Answer: No
Answer: No it doesn't.
Q:
How does it do for searing steaks?
Answer: On a scale of 1-10....a 6. It does have a feature for this, and it works pretty well; but if you want a fast sear with "flame-grilled" sear marks similar to open flame, their models with the sear-box on the side works better. I cheat and heat up another grill to 700 degrees - 1 minute per side - just before serving (reverse sear).
Answer: It has a handle on the side you pull to move a plate off to the side and expose the fire box to the middle of the grill
Answer: The unit has instructions on how to do this, and it works great!
Q:
What are the dimensions when it’s folded up? Will it fit in the back of a pickup with a bed cover?
Answer: The problem isn't that it won't fit, you can fit it in the back of a volkswagon probably! However, it is HEAVY, so you'll need to people to pick it up. But yes, you can transport it pretty easily in a truck with a bed cover.
Answer: Yes it fits in the back of a Subaru Outback after folding it
Q:
What is max temp on grill?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Max is 500 degrees.
Answer: It can go to 400 controlled and then there is the high setting which is basically as close as it can get to 500.
Answer: 500
Answer: 500* but may actually get a little hotter
Answer: It goes up to 500°
Answer: 510°
Q:
When are you going to add wifi control to this model? Really like this but I want the portability of this and the wifi technology of the Woodwind line
Answer: My husband has it with the wifi. He controls it from his phone. We use this up camping
Q:
What cover is available for use during winter months to hold the temperature?
Answer: There is a lid cover available from amazon
Q:
What Guage and Grade steel body & lid construction?
Answer: I do not know. Have had mine over a year and it is very sturdy. I use it at least once a week, but lots of time 2 - 4 times. Sometimes use it as a regular oven! It is well built and lid etc is very sturdy. I take it camping too... when the parks are open. I have 2 other Camp Chef bbqs… love the quality of the brand.
Answer: Not 100% sure of gauge. But its built strong. Only complaint is the handle for transport is plastic and breaks if your not smart like me. But the customer service got me a new one right away. We use ours more than our stove and even fold her up and take her camping. Had mine for over a year. NO ISSUES!
Q:
Can you use non-camp chec brand pellets?
Answer: Absolutely! I use Camp Chef & Lumber Jack but you can use any pellets for pellet grills. Each brand has it's own characteristics but does not affect the grill. Some create more ash, Lumber Jack, and some are plain wood with infused flavors, Traeger (wouldn't recommend), but they all work. Try different brands and find what works best for you. Good luck and enjoy!
Answer: I use Treager and other brand pellets all the time.
Answer: Yes any pellets work well.
Answer: Yes I do. I get mine from the local Wal Mart. No issues at all.
Answer: Any kind of cooking pallets will work
Answer: Yes as long as it’s food grade
Answer: Yes, that’s not a problem
Q:
where can i find a cover that fits it?
Answer: Camp Chef Cover ordered from Camp chef booklet #PCPPG20 for $3499
Answer: Bought a Camp Chef cover at Walmart
Answer: Camp Chef website has the cover and a carry bag.
Answer: On there website. There are two different types; one for when it is folded and one for when it is set up. Information in the catalog that comes with grill.
Q:
how long is the inside of the smoker?
Answer: Has 2 racks but you can use only one if you wish. The total cooking capacity if over 500 sq. in.
Answer: The interior is 18 1/2 “ L x 13 1/2” W.
Q:
Is this light enough to just lift and load into a pickup with one person?
Answer: Truthfully, unless you work out and lift weights, no. Really need another hand to lift and load.
Answer: I'm 5' 6" and no weight lifter, but I can man handle it. Just need a good grip. With the grill back towards you so that the folded wheels are towards the tailgate, left hand holding the handle on the hopper and right on the bottom right side. Lift up and set the wheels on the tailgate, then it's just a matter of lifting the side high enough to wheel it into place. Of course, bend at the knees, no twisting at the waist and don't throw your back out.
Answer: It weighs about 85 pounds. It would be pretty difficult.
Answer: not really, you need two people it is pretty heavy. But a great smoker.
Q:
what's the no. of the cover?
Answer: I'm not sure of a number, but we ordered ours directly from Camp Chef.
Q:
Can someone send me approx measurements of the grill of the outside including the pellet box. I want to build or buy a utility cart to place the grill
Q:
How big of a turkey does it cook?
Answer: 12lbs is as large as i go because i like to keep it in a foil pan to steam in its own juices. The smoke from the grill and then staying in the pan makes it super moist and great flavor. I cover it with foil half way through cooking and then go to 168 degrees internal heat and then pull it off.
Answer: I have cooked a 12 lb turkey on my pursuit
Answer: Maybe 15 pounds we haven't tried one yet but it is great on anything else We travel with it and are loving it.
Answer: Guessing 10 pounder...
Answer: 18 lb
Q:
Will this for in the trunk of my car?
Answer: It should, provided it is not a shallow height trunk
Answer: Well the legs do fold down so depending on your car it might fit. It’s really heavy so you’ll need help loading it. We load it in our pick up bed when camping.
Answer: In its folded configuration its 22 inches tall and 38 inches long....Just an FYI... it is not light and its bulky and folding it up is a pain especially when you get a bunch of cooks on it and grease seems seep out of little nooks and cranny's....But one thing for sure, pellet grills make me look like a pro bbq-er.
Answer: It might be tight.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does it come with a pellet dump?
Answer: No pellet dump
Answer: No, this model does not have a pellet dump. I think the bigger mode come with this features.
Answer: No it does not there is no way to dump out the pellets
Answer: Nope. Wish I'd thought to ask that question.
Answer: Yes.
Q:
How long does it take to get up to cooking temp, say 350 or 400 degrees?
Answer: I don't normally get it that hot but I'd say about 20 minutes. I always make sure I empty the combustion chamber before the next use. It throws off the cook time when you have a flame out and need to start the heating process over again, regardless of cook temp.
Answer: I most often cook at 325 and that takes approximately 8-10 depending on weather conditions.
Answer: I’d say around 15 minutes.
Answer: It is dependent on whether you just cleaned it or not. If you still have ash in the fire cup 5 minutes and you are close to 300. If it has to fill the fire cup and get it burning then it is over 10 minutes.
Answer: Is influenced by the weather in normal conditions it will take about 25-30 minutes. Is great for low smoke. You have to remember if you don’t going to use for a while to empty the hoper because the pellets will absorb the humidity.
Answer: Once the start up is finished, it might take 5-15mins depending on what the outside temperature is.
Answer: 20-30 min
Answer: 30 minutes
Q:
Do you still get the 3 year warranty if purchased on amazon?
Answer: Yes
Q:
What are the measurements of the lower grill grate?
Answer: It is 13.75”X18.5”.
Q:
How does the smoke escape? I see no chimney.
Answer: There are vents in the back.
Answer: There is a vent on the back side.
Answer: Vents in the back
Q:
Where does the grease drain out? I don't see a litlle bucket hanging on the side like other smokers have.
Answer: There is a place to hang a bucket (which is included in the box) just like other pellet smokers. I use a liner inside the bucket to make cleanup a lot easier. OBTW, this smoker is a lot easier to clean than the previous pellet smoker, by a different manufacturer) I had been using.
Answer: The bucket hangs from the lower left bottom corner of the grill (not in this picture) which is above the left rear wheel.
Answer: Yes there is a bucket you just can’t see it in the picture but it came with One and the grease goes in the bucket not in your veins
Answer: there is one that comes with it. it hangs off the left back corner and works very well . This is by-far one of the best portable smokers on the market. I am a Mechanic/Contractor this thing is well built and the design is well thought out. Very much worth the money. Just buy it you won't be disappointed.
Answer: The bucket hangs underneath. Comes out on back corner opposite hopper
Answer: It comes with a grease bucket that hangs on the back left corner?
Answer: There is a bucket that hangs on the back left leg, it’s just not shown in the picture.
Answer: There is a little bucket that hangs off the back

Answer: No it is the old dial controller.
Answer: The new Pusuit is sent with the new WiFi controller
Answer: It has one that you can set the temperature It has to smoke settings
Answer: No, it does not.
Q:
Trying my pursuit out for the first time, I have experienced some 50-75 temp fluctuations, any ideas why? Not all the time but about every 30-45 im

Answer: It is 110 AC only hard wired.
Answer: Works on AC only and comes with AC power cores.
Answer: AC only
Answer: No it does not. It comes with a standard plug .
Q:
can you cook with the legs in the stow position?
Answer: Yes, there is an ash cup that fits to the bottom that will likely interfere with the folded legs, however this is only need post cook to empty the ash from the cooker. Otherwise, no issues with cooking while folded other than perhaps leveling the unit.
Answer: You can but it is not recommended because this thing can put out some serious heat. It needs the air circulation and the ash cup would not go on.

how does it work in the wind? let's say 20-30 mph
Answer: I had mine out on our front porch for 6 months plus used it camping twice... no problem. Now I have it in our back yard. Have used it in rainy
Answer: Not really sure, because mine has always been semi-protected under the patio cover. That being said; It's my opinion, strong wind wouldn't effect it because the burn pot get's really hot and the whole unit is sealed quite well from the wind. Hope this helps.

Answer: About half hour.
Q:
Will it fit in the bed of a truck with bed cover on it?
Answer: I also have a bed cover, but I have not tried to load it in the bed. Can't speak to the different makes, models, or years of trucks; but from the bed floor to the bottom of bedcover on mine is 19 1/2". The grill (with the legs folded for transport); looks to be approx. 20". So it would be very close. My bedcover is vinyl, with a slight bow in the center, so I think I could make it work. Product reviews of Camp Chef 20" Pursuit Portable Pellet Grill, PPG20, Black, Stainless, Total Rack Surface Area: 501 sq. in
Amazon Customer : Heavy and not the best way to fold the arms
Does an amazing job smoking meat, very heavy, its over 100lbs and sits pretty high once closed up. Not the greatest way to fold the legs when traveling. Overall a good product, the treager tailgater is lighter and has arms that fold easier, but you are not able to do 4 racks of ribs. I would buy again, just larger and heavier that I expected it to be.
Walter : Great for travel
I take it everywhere and use it at home. Iv used this smoker a lot and lasted. The drop latch for emptying burnt pellets is a time saver. My only complaint is having issues when running at high temperatures. Twice now the fire has tried to back-feed back into the pellet box. So I keep it below 400 and all is good.
B-rice : Nice pellet smoker/grill from Camp Chef with a few unexpected disappointments.
Haven’t used it much yet, but have found a few unexpected issues. On the positive, there are not many travel pellet grills available from manufacturers. I don’t intend to travel with it, but I like that it may be possible. I mainly wanted a pellet smoker/grill that I could easily move indoors, since we live on the coast and the salty air and chemicals reek havoc on outdoor equipment.
Pros: Light weight and less bulky as other pellet/smokers. Easy ash dump and sliding plate for grilling. Has 2 extra probes for cooking based on internal meat temperatures. Exterior bottle opener.
Cons: Does not have the trademark Camp Chef hopper dump, or sight glass on the side for easy inspection of hopper level without opening. It also does not have very good funneling of the hopper pellets into the auger and I have to check it frequently or the fire goes out (it may work better when completely filled...but again, it doesn’t have the easy hopper dump). It has poorly written instructions and did not come with any guidance for wood choices, like some manufacturers do (like Pit Boss). It was also extremely difficult to get the legs dropped into place (but luckily for us we aren’t likely to travel with it and are leaving them locked down permanently).
Mannaquinn : Good quality smoker
The smoker came damaged. Was shorting out my home electrical, and the internal thermometer was severely bent. Customer service at Camp Chef was fantastic. Talked me through a diagnostic process. Sent new parts and instructions for install. Install was a little hard for the thermometer (whole was exactly the same size as the connector, but I got it in. Works perfect now. Easy to use. Great smoke. My only issue is that even through the legs do fold and there is a handle and wheels, this beast is not really that portable. I took it to the cabin for Xmas, but it basically took two people to get it in and out of the truck, and up to the cabin. You also need to stuff something into the main compartment so all the parts don't bounce around and damage the smoker.
R. M : Great smoker.
i have had this for a few months now and can say that i wouls buy it again. easy to start, cook on, and clean. uses very little pellets.
Amazon Customer : Heavy and not the best way to fold the arms

Mongoose : Camp Chef 20
This is a great little cooker but not sure about the portable part. Very heavy to move around and put together each time you use it. We use it in our living quarter tailer. It stays in there. You can cook anything on it and it comes out great. Just really question the Portable part. I gave it 5 stars because it works great.
Amazon Customer : Great Portable / Small area smoker
For a small portable smoker this is a great unit, the heat is consistent, the pellet bin is large enough that you do not have to constantly fill, the lids latch for both grill and pellet bins. Love this
BunnySewHappy : Love our pellet grill
Great grill so easy to use and results are fantastic
Amazon Customer : Easy to take on road trips
Works great easy to travel with
Kindle Customer : Love it!
Awesome grill/smoker
Jan Ballenger : Great Portable Pellet Grill
This is so much like our bigger Camp Chef but so portable to be able to take with us camping and not have to miss our bigger one at home.
stroud6 : Such a great little grill/smoker with outstanding features.
Our propane grill was rusting out. I have always had a gas grill and a gas or electric smoker in the past. Wanted to combine into one unit. Wow does this fit the bill. Can put sear marks on a steak and smoke low and slow for 10 hours. great flavor and easy to use. Don't think this is a small grill/smoker. Portable but can fit a lot of food on it. Lots of videos on youtube on how to use it also.
Walter : Great for travel

My only complaint is having issues when running at high temperatures. Twice now the fire has tried to back-feed back into the pellet box. So I keep it below 400 and all is good.
Amazon Customer : Great. But not great.
The grill works excellent, but the retainers for the folding legs have broke as well as the handle for the flame control. This all happened within 30 days.
If this thing didn't weigh so much, I'd return it.
BUDDY BOMAR : THE BEST PORTABLE PELLET SMOKER ON THE MARKET
I played with them all and this one came out on top in just about every category that matters. JUST BUY IT YOU WONT REGRET IT.
JYale : Great addition to the RV
This is a great grill for the RV. We have 4 kids, total of six of us and this grill has plenty of room to feed us all. Plug it in, set the temp, put the meat in, all thats left to do is play.
rachelisesmith : Surprisingly Spacious
I’ve had this guy for a few months now and it works like a charm. I’ve done pizzas, burgers, and a roast. The small size is perfect for my balcony. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much food the Pursuit holds. I usually only cook for two but we’ve had a few get togethers and the Pursuit held 16 1/2 pound burgers. Wow!
LauraZ : Amazing Grill/Smoker
My husband and I are full time RVers and we really missed having a way to smoke meats since all we had was our very small Volcano grill. It works great for grilling, but no way to smoke and not enough room to cook for a crowd. I started looking for portable smoker options and found portable pellet grills. I looked at Traegar and Green Mountain grills and was almost ready to pull the trigger on one of those when I found the Camp Chef Pursuit. We already own a Camp Chef two burner camp stove and have used it for years, so knew that Camp Chef made a good product. I really liked the fact that the Pursuit has two racks and the Slide and Grill feature, which meant we could both smoke and grill on this one unit and it was capable of cooking more items at a time. The weight was a little heavy for a portable, but we have found that it works out OK. We have cooked several batches of chicken wings, a couple of racks of baby back ribs, boneless chicken thighs, fish, steaks, pizzas and a Boston butt so far. We're still tweaking cook times, but everything has come out tasty so far. We are trying to figure out what temp to cook the pizzas on as we've burned the bottoms a couple times. We made a mistake and used foil on the grease tray to try and make it easier to clean, but for some reason it really kept the heat lower than we wanted, so use foil with caution! We bought some grill mats for non-stick and use them on the top rack as they are not supposed to be exposed to direct flame. So far, we've only used our Pursuit while connected to 110 power, but if you have a small inverter, you could use a car or truck battery as a power source for tailgating or off-grid camping. This is a really versatile smoker and grill!
When we first received the grill, we had a problem with the igniter. It started up, but after a couple of minutes it would trip the ground fault on the unit. We contacted Camp Chef and they overnighted us a replacement igniter as we were only going to be at that campground for a couple more days. There was also a crack in the plastic handle on the legs that we discovered later and they promptly sent us the replacement for it as well. Camp Chef has been very responsive to our needs and we feel very confident that we will use and enjoy this smoker/grill for years to come.
Joe A. Cherry, Jr. : Very satisfied
A buddy introduced me to the world of pellet smoking on his Camp Chef Pursuit. I was so impressed with the construction and operation of his smoker that I jumped in and ordered one. The construction detail like latches on the grill door and hopper, built in bottle opener, innovative engineering like the legs folding and locking for easy transport and the heavy metal construction, along with the new 2 year warranty made a believer out of me. The cooking results have been very satisfactory and am looking forward to many days of smoking bliss!
Grant : And the food!!! Wonderful flavor!
Worth the money for what you get. Solid built, good looks, can't get much easier. Keep it dry!
Malcolm : Cooks great
Perfect for stowing in the 5th wheel.

Can put sear marks on a steak and smoke low and slow for 10 hours. great flavor and easy to use. Don't think this is a small grill/smoker. Portable but can fit a lot of food on it. Lots of videos on youtube on how to use it also.
BUDDY BOMAR : THE BEST PORTABLE PELLET SMOKER ON THE MARKET
I played with them all and this one came out on top in just about every category that matters. JUST BUY IT YOU WONT REGRET IT.
Joe A.

Plumb : I like this for camping.
Should of got bigger unit beef jerky isn't that good to do on this one. For camping it will be ok. One slab of ribs did great. Like the pellet grill how it works. Winding and rainy days are little questionable.
