I carried out over my head into waist deep water and then dropped it down in the water. I then walked out to chest deep water and held the rope as the tide still would pull. You have to be patient and have the trap baited well to draw the minnows to the trap.

This will be year 3 with this trap. I see a lot of bad reviews, just assume they are idiots who do not know how to take care of their stuff. I use this net all summer long in Northern Michigan beaver dams for minnows. It sits on the back of my Big Red and is hauled through brush constantly. Not a single problem yet, actually here buying my second one just to have 2 out at the same time, saw the unwarrented 3 stars, and had to tell my experience.

Excellent trap. Very easy to use. For my first night I used dog food as the bait. Couldn't believe what I found the next morning, we had lots of minnows, over two dozen shrimp and two large stone crabs.
One tip, is to unzip the opening on the side and cut that area open so when you unzip you can empty your catch there.

I mix some dry old bread with half a can of wet cat food, close the lid halfway down n then put the net in overnite. One morning the net was so heavy, I thought it had snagged on the bottom, but to my suprise, was literally half full of crawfish. We had hot mud bug jambalaya that nite with leftovers for later! The net held and is pretty sturdy, and easy to fold down and put in a back pack! I'm very satisfied!! ( I'm looking to probably buy a few more in the future!)

ok, so I give this 3 stars for a couple reasons. First, when fully open, its very "touchy". It will collapse with the slightest bump. They say to insert a plastic retainer, however very poor design in my opinion. Second, after 3 weeks mine started to tear a large hole in the top. Other than that, it works to catch fish.

I purchased two of these traps. They are pretty sweet and I've used them a few times. The only issue I have is with the zipper in the bottom. It's of poor quality and breaks easily. I will probably just use safety pins or something simple to close the hole up while the trap is set. Other than that, the traps work perfectly!

The rope snapped and we lost the net the first time we tried to check it. Very disappointed. Amazon wants me to return it and that is not possible because it is lost in the inter coastal waterway. I can’t recommend this product unfortunately.

Very simple and easy to use! Just took it to the lake last weekend, attached a rope to the net and threw it out. Checked net after ten minutes and had two blue gill inside. Continued to check throughout my time at the lake and kept pulling out more fish and crawfish which I used for live bait! Worked so well I ordered another!

It seemed to be able to catch fish, but when it was picked up with 2 mullet in it, three of the arms that support the frame snapped...one time use sort of fishing net. would recommend a better version of this style. Do not buy this one though.

Before using, you have to make a slit in the mesh to open up the zipper area. I attach this net with a 15 ft string and it works great.
Pros: I get about 50 crawfish per hour in this trap in California, using anchovies and chicken liver as bait. That means, most trips = bringing home at least 1/2 - 3/4 full 5 gal bucket.
Cons: The material is made out of mesh, so if it lasts more than 2 years I would be a happy crawdad fisherman. There are small white zipties that hold the wholes next to each other together. After a while, replacing the zipties may be required. It also can't be thrown too far. The best way I've found to throw it is by holding the white clamp at the top and then tossing it gently making sure it sinks on the proper sides.
