This net is fantastic. It could be a little bigger but it handles fish up to about 18" without any issues at all. I love the silicon and knowing that I'm helping the fish I catch stay healthy.

Overall great buy for the money. I was planning on getting a magnetic release, but the strap is elastic and so is easy to maneuver to the water if clipped to a vest/pack. The only forseeable issue is that the rubber net is fixed to the frame by what looks like cotton twine, but as long as you don't abuse it, I can't see any short term practical issues.

Rick Patrick : Makes "Catch and Release" automatic--but not in a good way

When I received this Mounchain landing net I was concerned about the size of the spacing of the net webbing in the bottom of the net, and to a lesser extent the depth. I took the net with me on an extended vacation in Colorado this July and found both concerns to be justified. This is touted as a catch and release net, but I'd prefer to do the releasing after I remove the hook. I found that any trout I caught that were not at least 13" could exit through the bottom of the net, and even some good sized but slimmer trout found it possible to wriggle through the webbing, while still on the hook. This made for an awkward business of removing the hook and freeing the fish. I also had a larger fish escape by flopping over the top of the net.

I would have returned the net once I got back home, but found that the "return window" closed a week earlier, while I was still in Colorado. This is a well-made product that should only be used for large fish, but watch out that they don't flop out of the net. But forget about using it for brook trout or other smaller fish, unless you find it fun trying to retrieve them after they escape through the bottom.

The net looks cool, and is a good size. The problem is the design of the netting will allow a smaller trout to slip right through.

It's not the best net out there, but it's not the worst one either

The webbing is too wide for holding fish in the center. Stretches and fish slip right through. Had 12-15” trout slip through the net after unhooking the catch.
