Ive herd that you shouldn't run the Samson Dehydrator more that 24 hours at a time, because it needs a rest is this true ??

Answer: Yes in the manual it states - "ATTENTION! Do not run the appliance for more than 24hours in one single use. After 24 hours. Unplug and let it cool down for at least 2 hours before operating again."

Is the steel plated at all, or is it pure stainless?

Answer: It is stainless. This thing is the real deal!! You wont be disappointed. 1 YouTube review was all I needed to be sold on it. We've been using this almost every day since it arrived.

Answer: It seems stainless, but the quality wasn't as good as my Excalibur. The tray inside is literally plastic. Worst part is, I received a complete dud. Mine didn't even power on so I had to return it and never reordered. Kept my Excalibur instead.

What are the set temperatures?

Answer: I'm using it right now and checked it. They are 95, 104, 113, 122, 131, 140, 149, 158 and 167. I have a thermometer in it and found that 122 brings it up to 115 degrees, which is perfect to dehydrate without killing any nutrition.

Answer: Model SB-1010SS Just got mine Jan 2021. Outer surface is definitely brushed stainless although magnetic just like my Samsung refer but is brighter than the grey inside that is not brushed and is grey more like a light galvanized but could be non-brushed stainless. It is very good quality and have no reason to not believe the seller

Has anyone ran this against a similar dehydrator to determine if it is comparable to similar units?

Answer: I’m not sure what features you’re trying to compare but I’ve had mine for a few years now and it does the job super well. I wish you could control the temperature a little better tho. It is limited to preset settings which I dislike (113, 122, 131, 140, 149, 158 and 167.

Answer: I have had a small round dehydrator and used a square larger one and this dehydrator, the Samson Silent is by far better than the other two I tried. It dries evenly and in about the same amount of time if not sooner. It is not as noisy as the other two were either.

Another review of this item said the inside was not stainless. Are the rack guides stainless?

Answer: The racks guides may be made out of galvanized steel

I thought this had no plastic but someone said there was bpa mesh trays which even though it doesn't have bpa, it's still plastic. can you remove it?

Answer: The actual trays are indeed all stainless steel. Included are optional BPA free plastic tray liners, but there is no need to use them if you do not want to.

Answer: You can remove it but you don’t have an option to order it without them. They come with it. The plastic mesh is to allow you to dehydrate small pieces. But I agree, plastic should be eliminated from it. You can use a cheese cloth instead.

Answer: This one beats the other by a mile. My buddy had a Magic Mill unit that (previously) impressed me in it's ability to process 5 lbs of venison jerky in a 12 hour dry time. When I received the Samson Silent I was astounded that it could dry 11 pounds in 4 hours!

Answer: You have to chose one of the preset temperatures which is not really a problem. For example if you want to use 165 degrees you will have to use the preset of 167 instead.

Answer: It automatically sets a timer to 10hrs. You can set it anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hrs. Other than that, I don't know why yours stopped.

what are the interior walls made of? From the photo it appears black as if they are plastic.

Answer: The interior walls and bottom are made of galvanized steel. Everything else and anything the food comes in contact with is stainless steel.

Answer: The inside walls are metal. The only thing plastic is the removable drip tray on the bottom.

Answer: No, they are most definitely metal. The trays slide in and out into slots in the metal sides.

it indicates you get ten trey in addition ten mesh liner... how does the liners look like?

Answer: The liners that came with mine are a semi-flexible clear plastic, molded into about as fine a mesh as it's possible to make that way. I'm not sure what to compare it to. The openings are smaller than those in a sheetmetal colander, but larger than those in an all-purpose wire strainer. The liners fit flat into the trays, but they will warp a bit with use.

Answer: I dont know. I just wash the racks with soft sponge and dry it after i am done. Check your manual if you have one or ask seller.

Can this sit on a wood counter top or do I need to get something that is heat protective for this to sit on?

Answer: The heat comes out near the front side vents. I have mine on a regular Formica counter top and have no problems with heat on the counter. Air gets drawn from the back so make sure you have a little space in back and not pushed up against the wall.

Answer: It gets pretty hot under the unit. I would not risk putting it on a wood counter.

Answer: We've had ours on a painted wooden table and have run it a few times without any noticeable searing of the wood.

Answer: Unfortunately, we do not have this model in 220v, so no it can not be used in India.

Answer: It says it conforms to UL std 1026 and is ETL listed. I believe UL requires all electrical devices to have safety shut offs and looking in mine it appears there could be a fuseable link near the element.

Have you verified that your dehydrator actually gets to 165F inside? A reviewer tested hers w 3 thermometers + it only got to 135F.

Answer: I have never put a thermometer inside, but I can tell you I have made a lot of jerky with no problems. I really like this unit.

Can I set the temperature at 118° on the samson dehydrator?

Answer: I don't remember if 118 was one of the preset tempatures. I sent it back because of tempatures being 22 degrees off what it was set for. Sorry can't help you out any.

We had to replace our old dehydrator after more than 20 years of use. It was very basic, you kind of put stuff in and it could take days to dry, but eventually it did.
We opened the Samson Silent up and it is so impressive, stainless, shiny, neat, and so quiet that you have to focus to discern if it is on!
We have dried tomatoes, onions, applies, pears, herbs, teas...and it is wonderful. Having a timer and a temperature gauge have allowed us to be in control, instead of being controlled! Things that used to take days to dry now are dry in less than 12 hours. Clean up is a breeze. Can't say enough positive about this machine. And it looks wonderful on the shelf, unlike our former model! Thank you.

Stainless steel trays and nonstick plastic insert trays for smaller items. This dehydrator is indeed very quiet. It sits in my kitchen on a counter where I run it all day. The noise is not the least bit annoying. Its very quiet. Its easy to use. I like the low temperatures (95 degrees) that you can dehydrate with. The controls are easy to figure out. There is only on thing that I have a suggestion for the manufacturer. There is a beep (not loud) that sounds at the end of the dehydrating session. It beeps 20 times! I have found no way to silence it nor turn it off. I don't need this feature but since its in my kitchen. I can live with this as I love the Samson"Silent" 10 Tray Stainless Steel Dehydrator - Digital Controls - Glass Door.

I loved so many things about the machine. It is very quiet. Loved the capacity and ease of use. I have the corsi version which is smaller 6 tray. I love that one very much. Same great qualities. I found that I was doing a lot of dehydrating and it was just not large enough, so I research and purchased this one. I did apples in it and found it taking longer than my little dehydrator. I went out and bought an oven thermometor and put it in and I found that the read out on the machine was 22 degrees higher than the actual tempature in the inside. I debated what to do, because I really liked the machine. I continued to use the machine and went out and bought 2 other kinds of oven thermometors. I tried them and they agreed with the first one. You wouldn't be able to do jerky at the correct tempature because it wouldn't get that high. So I put the thermometors in and turned it up to the highest temp. and waited an hour. All 3 read 135 degrees. Although you could still use it for fruit, it should be able to get to up to tempature it says it will. I did end up returning it. It was a no hassel return. So I have wondered about getting another one because I did love everything about it. Don't know it was just mine or others? Don't know if others have checked the tempature inside their machines? I don't know if I would have known except I have another dehydrator and it being a commercial grade with 1000 watts couldn't keep up with my 600 watts machine.

This isn't my first dehydrator, but won't buy this or recommend this one. You can adjust time in increments BUT the temp can only be adjusted in 9-degree increments. The highest is 158 and go down by nine degrees...nothing in between. Temp seems way off. A food that takes 12-18 hours was in 24 and just seemed warm, no where near dried. Put in another 12 at a very high temp. Still not happy. I have till the 31st to return and seriously considering because not happy at all.

I have a 9 tray Excalibur dehydrator that I have used for years but always had to use it at night or when we were not going to be home because I had no where to use it but our kitchen and it was so loud. I bought this dehydrator with the hope that it would be able to be used whenever I wanted to and I have been able to do that! It really is super quiet and often we don't even know it's running. I love that it is stainless steel, has a door that swings open, and has stainless steel trays. It has definitely been worth the cost.

Really happy with this dehydrator. Finding one without a lot of plastic parts was a challenge and costs a premium, but this unit looks nice, works very efficiently, the controls are easy to use and access and even the see through door is not plastic. We have a very abundant persimmon tree and the Samson is able to dry large quantities quickly and quietly! Love it!

I am giving this review from buying directly, and not from Amazon because it’s all about the machine.
We did hours of research and reading reviews (between two of us) and this machine was exactly what we expected from the manufacturers description.
We have used this dehydrator at least 25+ times with various vegetable matter. We have not dehydrated meat.
We have a designated area for it to run on our covered porch in all kinds of weather.
High humidity, hot days, and winter.
We also use a fiber air filter over the back fan attached with magnets to keep out any dust or pollutants.
The temperature readings are correct, if not a tad hotter - possibly because of the air filter over the back so this can effect the overall temperature inside the dehydrator.
All of these variants have not effected this machine’s efficiency in any way, but we baby it when not in use.
After each use it is wiped down, inspected and stored in an open space to air out.
Yes, I would highly recommend.

The Samson Dehydrator is awesome! I searched a ton of brands and models looking for ALL STAINLESS STEEL body and parts, 7" horizontal fan, frontal controls and a hinged front door i could see through. I found it all in Samson. The only draw back...size is too large for my kitchen so I had to put it in a cupboard I have in the breezeway. I ran a load of foods on the first day.
I dehydrated 7 onions and 1 lrge pkg of mushrooms all in one load. They all dried in half the time of my smaller dehydrator. The unit is so quite I can hardly hear it.
Don't know about longevity yet but unit appears very well made. Did I mention it is big?
