Product reviews of KEY-BAK SECURIT Heavy Duty Retractable Key Holder with a Retractable Kevlar Cord Secures Keys, Gear
Robert J. Passamenti : Everything else is very nicely and sturdily manufactured
I will update my rating pending purchase of replacement item.
Works well, functionally and mechanically well balanced, and relatively robust item.
I’m curious to know if anyone has had an issue with the soft vinyl strap that links the retractor to the belt clip? I’ve only had mine for a few weeks, and the strap is very soft and has worn approx 3/4 of the way through with light/limited use.
I will be ordering a replacement item today, and will update/edit this post accordingly. I’m assuming I may have caught the strap on something and torn it, rather than simply having it wear out within a matter of weeks? Everything else is very nicely and sturdily manufactured, I honestly can’t imagine they would skimp on the strap itself?
Lisa C : Durable Key Holder that will last
I'm required to carry keys on me during my work day and use them frequently through out the day. I was looking for a durable and retractable key holder and this one is perfect. I loved it so much I bought one for my husband to use and he also likes it.
TM : Kevlar cord broke
Bought this before Christmas, Kevlar cord snapped and retracted all the way in. Didn't last 8 months of light use.
Z0w4DVkGSf9BfUGtlvqQ : Needs a better belt attachment but overall this is the best Key-Bak model after modification.
I don't like the included carabiner so I swapped it out with a belt clip and quick detach ring that brings the Key-Bak closer to beltline. The plastic housing is significantly tougher than the metal housing variants which I have broken several of rolling on them. The chain is smoother and less likely to bind than the kevlar cord.
Thomas P Collins : Very well maid and reliable
I use this on my belt for all my keys. I ride a bike and gives me assurance I can find my keys and they are secure. Easily accessible when unlocking my bike lock ect. Great price and even better quality.
Tiny Pieces LLC : Very nice product!
Great product for the relatively reasonable price. The mechanism functions perfectly. My only complaint is that it hangs a bit low, I would like this form factor with a belt clip. Then it would be perfect!
Freddie Roa : Not that durable . Lite duty use , in my opinion
It already broke ... had it a few months . It’s cheap , so I’m not too broken up about it. It’s definitely a lite duty product
whatever : broken in under a year. :(
I bought this product on 24 February 2019 and had the Kevlar cord brake off the plastic key holder tip on 29 November 2019. I believe the cord tension was too strong for that plastic key holding tip which is why broke off while retracting. don't buy a 20oz tension cord stick to a 8oz.
Amazon Customer : For work
I had bought a Walmart retractable but the keys and badge was too heavy for it. I bought this one because I needed something a little more sturdy. OMG it was very sturdy. Am no longer comfortable having my keys and badge around my neck but this is very good. Am happy with this product.
J.D : Kevlar string cut through polycarbonate case
I am a maintenance technician for Amazon and do use my keys and badges frequently, probably on average about 50 times a shift. Have had the xtreme duty for about a year. The pull was a little too strong for the amount of weight that i had on it, but overall really liked the product up until a couple days ago, when to my amazement the kevlar string snapped. Apparently over time the string started to cut into the polycarbonate case from slightly angled pulls on the lanyard. I didnt realize this until the string snapped from the sharp edge of the cut case. This defect could have been avoided by a simple metal eyelet installed to guide the string on angled pulls, instead of the tough kevlar string slowly cutting through the case until it failed. Bak claims the spring is good for 1 million pulls, I was no where near this amount when the string failed from a defective case design. For 20 bucks, I would have hoped for a longer service life.
JJ : Great product!!
Just what I needed. This is a sturdy, heavy duty retractable key chain. I've broken other lesser key chains, so I'm so glad to have found this. The housing is heavy-duty plastic, the clip is very secure, and the retractable cable is heavy-duty and durable. It feels like it will last quite a while.
C. Anderson : Great little device
I love these, I use one for my work keys. I had to buy a second one because I broke the first, but that's a reflection on my klutziness, not the product. I had my key inserted in a lock when I fell because of reasons, and the chain snapped under my weight. I got the mini versions of these with kevlar cords for my team to use as well.
The only con I can think of is that the chain can be a bit loud when reeling it out, but that's pretty much to be expected.
Denise : Great tension, easy to pull out.
I carry a very heavy set of keys at work and this keeps them snug, no give at all. It's still easy to pull when I need to use them, though, so win/win.
h.s. : too bulky
its probably sturdy and secure but way too bulky to wear it around your belt, I'm not towing a truck with it, hanging a few keys.
Jason : Works Poorly the just Breaks altogether
This ratcheting key chain never worked very well from the start. Trying to get your keys to ratchet/wind back in often took many trys fooling around with pulling and releasing. Finally, today, it just stopped working and stayed stuck with cord extended and would not rewind at all.
NJCurry : Key-Bak products are great!
This is a great little device, I’ve owned a few of these in the past plus some of the larger sized Key-Baks, and they have not done me wrong.
These little guys are great in the construction and maintenance fields as they can be used to hold pencils, markers, small LED flashlights at less than an arms length away and really whatever you can think of. I’ve also put a small microfiber towel on the end and attached with a brass grommet so I could have a quick lens wipe handy on my pack while out hunting.
Another use for winter months is that these make a great ski lift ticket retractor.
Michael J. Wichers : Clip breaks, the rest is durable
Bought one, clip broke just as everyone says will happen. Replaced clip with carabiner from home depot. Used it until i lost it (had it for 2 years), then bought another. I have a tendency to break similar products within a month, but other than the easily replaceable clip, never broke this one.
John Masterson : Awesome retractable key ring.
I had the longer one with the light pull load for years. It was still working fine, but I bought the one that's a little shorter with the tighter pullback just because I worried that the cord might break. Very good quality. I still have both.
Emily Z : Sturdy, useful, irreplaceable.
I’ve had this for about a year now, and it solves two minor but annoying problems I had as a mom of young children. 1) No more digging in my purse to find my keys! I have the carabiner attached to my purse strap so my keys are always easy to find one-handed while juggling kids and their mountains of crap. 2) No more accidentally leaving my keys anywhere! I always know where my keys are because unless I make the effort to unclip them (which is easy to do when necessary), they stay in my purse. The chain is long enough for me to easily unlock the door with my purse still on my shoulder. No regrets!
Dave Oden : This is a very sturdy, trouble-free retractable key-holder.
This is the 2nd KEY-BAK SECURIT XD Retractable Key Holder that I have purchased. The slip-on clip model came off my belt a few times, so I replaced it with this more secure locking belt-loop model. I need to unlock doors/cabinets multiple times per day and this holder keeps my keys near and quickly accessible without snagging or having to take them off my belt each time. I keep my Harley key on this holder, which works much better and more secure than shoving it into my pocket each time. The 28" Kevlar Cord is surprisingly strong and ... quiet; I don't know why, but I prefer this over the chain option, because it seems to work smoother and is nearly silent. Personal idiosyncrasy. I highly recommend this key-holder: the quality is surprising and the price excellent.
More Cowbell : Nice 3ft Extension to a Traditional Dog Leash
I'm not using this as a key chain. I have always hated when my dog's leash gets caught under his leg and I have to bend all the way down, I'm 6'7"--long way down, and untangle. I added this to his standard leash. I don't like fully retractable leashes for big/powerful dogs. My brother was jogging and passed by a German Shepard--with prior offences it turned out--and boom, her retractable leash went flying out and she couldn't reel him in, and said German Shepard bit said joggers's calf. Those are fine for little dogs. This is perfect. I use a leash that attaches to my waist. I made a fail-safe redundancy cord that is 1 inch shorter than the Kevlar cord so it in case the latter does break and to keep it from over-straining. I feel 100% confident with this setup. This Kevlar cord seems very durable. It's used for 2 hours daily.
Jonathan : All I wanted was durability
I was impressed with this product for the first three months, but was disappointed when the outer black casing cracked open. This caused the waistband clip to come undone. I thought it was perhaps because I had accidentally crushed it at some point so I decided to buy this product again...
AND Within one week the waistband clip had completed come apart. I was honestly expecting something sturdy and durable but got a somewhat cheap product. I can’t say it was a horrible product because I did abuse the first one quite a bit, but how the heck can I justify buying the same product three times in a year?? I wish I could get my money back for my second purchase or get a new one for free because this left me upset. Doubt I will ever buy this brand again.
Richard Edgar : Sturdy, well built
I ordered the 20 oz version and am actually regretting buying that one. The pull back is too much for my purposes. The 20 oz is accurate. The key holder is built very well. I'm using it for a tether for my cell phone while powered paragliding. I think the 13 oz (or maybe the 8 oz) version will be a better fit for just a cell phone.
Amazon Customer : Amazing product, heavy duty
I love this keychain. I attach it to my pants/shorts. It’s perfect when your hands are always busy. It’s very durable, it’s heavy duty. I had one for a year and a half and was in great condition but I lost it. I came right back to find a replacement on here because it’s great. Only criticism is I wish the hook that goes on your pants loop wasn’t so long
BW : lasted about 3 years
I bought this because some reviewers said the ones with chains last longer than the others. I don't keep a lot of keys on it or use it constantly all day long. Even so, somewhere short of 3 years use, it stopped retracting all the way and that quickly got worse and worse. I think it should have lasted longer with relatively light use.
SLittle : WOW Strong:^)
For a device to hold (2) keys it has a very strong resistance which is awesome. Didn't realize till I got it that it is designed for a lot of keys:^) But I am thrilled and love it.
Dave Oden : This is a very sturdy, trouble-free retractable key-holder.

BIG DADDY : Heavy duty use only! Good and strong
Excellent for heavy duty use!! It’s definitely a little stronger than most others!

I'm required to carry keys on me during my work day and use them frequently through out the day. I was looking for a durable and retractable key holder and this one is perfect. I loved it so much I bought one for my husband to use and he also likes it.
vom357 : dont count on it
first the webbing strap broke so i attached with a metal ring
this am the whole connector to the wire just came off
lucky i didnt lose my keys
worse than nothing
way worse
Canyon Mom : Use with my copper door opener so I don't catch COVID!
I attached this to the strap on my purse with my copper door opener on the ring. It works perfectly as I can stretch it out to open doors, then let it go and it snaps right back into place. It is good quality and durable, far better than the previous one I had.
Bob G. Childs : Works for holding keys
I needed something to organize my keys and keep them so I wouldn't lose them. This works great.
Amazon Customer : It is okay
It really hang down a little to far from waist and I think I possibly have to many keys it hang on it, it does not retrack all the way all the time. So I still stick in pocket at least I dont leave them somewhere.
Chris : The metal part that hooks onto your pants have put on me after 2 months.
I like this product for my work, since I will lock my keys inside rooms at work sometimes. My coworker recommended this to me and his lasted for a year. Sadly mines only lasted 2 months before the metal clip gave out and dented so I can’t hook it onto my pants anymore.
Summer : Durable great product. Be better than the boss.
I totally enjoy having a better key holder than my fellow coworkers. My girl friend and me both work retail and have to carry the keys all the time. Everyone said I can’t believe you paid $20 for a key ring until they seen how well they last through every day use.
Robin Conley : Had a small problem after 6 months
I bought this back in April and it has been great. I bought the version with the chain. And no problems until just this week in October, the chain retracts except for the last 3 inches. No matter what I’d do it won’t retract all the way. If it weren’t for that I would give it too ratings.
Dusan T. : What a amazing product
What a amazing product working like a barwaiter on a Carnival Cruise line means this thing is using daily for hole contract conversation to years two years of heavy duty using it that means awesome product extremely happy with it
Natan Zayas : Almost perfect.
The carabiner broke. I love the key reel, but the carabiner has a very fragile clip that came off easily therefore making it useless. I had to buy a nicer one for it to be perfect!
J.D : Kevlar string cut through polycarbonate case

DeeAnne : A great product
Very sturdy and easy to pull out and retract back. This was the best solution to keeping my ID badge secure and on my belt. I will buy this again
Linda L. Mason : I can find the keys
Just got a new car and wanted to never find lost keys. It's great to attach to purse or my jeans. The only one thing I wished it had was a stopper pulling back to prevent constant pulling. It is strong and easy to use otherwise.
Me : Rip off broke instantly
Broke almost instantly. What a cheap pile of junk complete rip off
Lisa C : Durable Key Holder that will last
I'm required to carry keys on me during my work day and use them frequently through out the day. I was looking for a durable and retractable key holder and this one is perfect. I loved it so much I bought one for my husband to use and he also likes it.

Micah333 : Pull was too strong for my taste/need
I only have about 8 keys and a key fob on my key ring, but I decided to go with the Xtreme Duty because...why not. The shorter reach of the Xtreme was still long enough (it only needs to be arms length, so longer length will go unused), however, the extra pull-back necessary to support the 44 keys advertised, made it harder to pull than I desired. I'm keeping the Xtreme for a rainy day, but did order a Heavy Duty to use just for one key and my fob. Much happier with the new arrangement.
StressFreeLiving : Lasted 9 months
This was a great product while it lasted. String broke today. Will look for a similar product that is made of more sturdy materials. This lasted 9 months under daily heavy use opening multiple doors daily say roughly 20 or more.
Robert J. Passamenti : Everything else is very nicely and sturdily manufactured
I will update my rating pending purchase of replacement item.
Works well, functionally and mechanically well balanced, and relatively robust item.

Tracy : aight
I prefer the other key back with string. I use keys constantly at work. I think this one is okay, but its to big and not long enough for my use plus I don't like the retractable chain
