Product reviews of KEY-BAK SECURIT Heavy Duty Retractable Key Holder with a Retractable Kevlar Cord Secures Keys, Gear
J.D : Kevlar string cut through polycarbonate case
I am a maintenance technician for Amazon and do use my keys and badges frequently, probably on average about 50 times a shift. Have had the xtreme duty for about a year. The pull was a little too strong for the amount of weight that i had on it, but overall really liked the product up until a couple days ago, when to my amazement the kevlar string snapped. Apparently over time the string started to cut into the polycarbonate case from slightly angled pulls on the lanyard. I didnt realize this until the string snapped from the sharp edge of the cut case. This defect could have been avoided by a simple metal eyelet installed to guide the string on angled pulls, instead of the tough kevlar string slowly cutting through the case until it failed. Bak claims the spring is good for 1 million pulls, I was no where near this amount when the string failed from a defective case design. For 20 bucks, I would have hoped for a longer service life.
tactical_monkey770 : Great way to keep your keys where you want them
I'm a patrol cop and I don't like hanging my car keys on my belt because they clang around everywhere you walk and give you away when you're trying to be silent. This Key-Bak is great because it's just long enough for me to keep my keys in my pocket but keep them securely attached to my belt. I get the best of both worlds. Plus, I feel like it makes my uniform look that much better because I don't have my keys flapping every which way.
Amazon Customer : For work
I had bought a Walmart retractable but the keys and badge was too heavy for it. I bought this one because I needed something a little more sturdy. OMG it was very sturdy. Am no longer comfortable having my keys and badge around my neck but this is very good. Am happy with this product.
Tntgolfer : Strong
Different tensions…read to make sure you get the right one for your application. I’m a locksmith with many keys…this one was great for my needs
Summer : Durable great product. Be better than the boss.
I totally enjoy having a better key holder than my fellow coworkers. My girl friend and me both work retail and have to carry the keys all the time. Everyone said I can’t believe you paid $20 for a key ring until they seen how well they last through every day use.
Canyon Mom : Use with my copper door opener so I don't catch COVID!
I attached this to the strap on my purse with my copper door opener on the ring. It works perfectly as I can stretch it out to open doors, then let it go and it snaps right back into place. It is good quality and durable, far better than the previous one I had.
Richard Edgar : Sturdy, well built
I ordered the 20 oz version and am actually regretting buying that one. The pull back is too much for my purposes. The 20 oz is accurate. The key holder is built very well. I'm using it for a tether for my cell phone while powered paragliding. I think the 13 oz (or maybe the 8 oz) version will be a better fit for just a cell phone.
Michael J. Wichers : Clip breaks, the rest is durable
Bought one, clip broke just as everyone says will happen. Replaced clip with carabiner from home depot. Used it until i lost it (had it for 2 years), then bought another. I have a tendency to break similar products within a month, but other than the easily replaceable clip, never broke this one.

JHerrera86 : Super strong, superior quality.
This thing is awesome, with the line being a chain it makes me feel more secure having my keys and ubikey on this thing. It still retracts like it did since day 1 and the overall quality is just excellent. It is bigger than what I’ve used in the past and it will hang and dangle but that doesn’t bother me, the logo is on full display which shows a since of pride from the company, along with the probably most important part that really sealed the deal for me, it reads “made in the USA”!
DadOfThree : Very helpful
This works excellent for holding my ID, keys, and key card. I often come into school with my hands full and with this clipped securely to my messenger bag I can simply reach with one hand to gain access to the building and my room without giving myself a pat-down looking for the right key. It is very sturdy and has enough reach to stretch from my 7 o'clock to the door in question, and I am a BIG guy too.
Freddie Roa : Not that durable . Lite duty use , in my opinion
It already broke ... had it a few months . It’s cheap , so I’m not too broken up about it. It’s definitely a lite duty product
Stephanie : Great Product
I bought this product back in November 2019. I am a school custodian/groundskeeper so I use mine quite a few times per day. Unfortunately, this product just broke today. My keys got stuck on the seat belt clip and I hopped off of the tractor seat, in the opposite direction. The string snapped vs my 200lbs self, but the tension was strong enough where I felt it holding me back, as I was jumping until it snapped. Ultimately, I was so impressed with the overall durability of this item, I just now ordered a replacement. It is a must have item if you are a custodian or a profession where you constantly have to open locks. It is so much easier than taking off a carabiner clip or something similar, each time you need to unlock something.
BW : lasted about 3 years
I bought this because some reviewers said the ones with chains last longer than the others. I don't keep a lot of keys on it or use it constantly all day long. Even so, somewhere short of 3 years use, it stopped retracting all the way and that quickly got worse and worse. I think it should have lasted longer with relatively light use.

StressFreeLiving : Lasted 9 months
This was a great product while it lasted. String broke today. Will look for a similar product that is made of more sturdy materials. This lasted 9 months under daily heavy use opening multiple doors daily say roughly 20 or more.
NCHAPPYDADDY : Industrial Grade!!!
I work in the Chemical industry. My work requires me to carry three LOTO locks on me at all times while in the plant. This was the perfect solution. The three keys stay on the key ring and the locks on the clip. The retracting reel makes it easy to keep everything together nice and compact while still maintaining easy access to the keys for unlocking the locks that have been placed on the equipment or machinery.
Dusan T. : What a amazing product
What a amazing product working like a barwaiter on a Carnival Cruise line means this thing is using daily for hole contract conversation to years two years of heavy duty using it that means awesome product extremely happy with it

It is very sturdy and has enough reach to stretch from my 7 o'clock to the door in question, and I am a BIG guy too.
Daphne McCann : Big but solid
This was larger than I expected and is a bit cumbersome at 2" wide and 7" long. It hangs pretty low. It feels very solid and the clip is strong and secure. And while the chain is probably very strong, it is pretty rough feeling when pulling it out. I went back to my old, less solid, small, smooth stringed version.
Professional Fat Guy : Get the Kevlar version!
I originally had the Kevlar version of this item, but the Kevlar broke after a year. So, I thought that I would purchase the metal version to replace it. It's quite noisy, and I find that the chain is not long enough to be easily usable for me. I do not like it. Keys tend to weight the chain down and cause it to hang. I did not have these issues with the kevlar version. If you are looking for a extending key holder, do not get this one. Go with the Kevlar version of this item; it's quieter, and the chord is longer. There's only two problems: #1, It broke after a year, but that's not bad considering I use it many, many times a day for work keys. #2, It does tend to get stuck in the car door pretty easy (which could influence problem number one.) I will be ordering the Kevlar version again to replace this.
Kenneth B. Sizer II : Great reach and strong pull
Too soon to remark on longevity, but it looks solid and performs perfectly. Plenty of pull for heavy-duty use. Very pleased.
Lisa C : Durable Key Holder that will last
I'm required to carry keys on me during my work day and use them frequently through out the day. I was looking for a durable and retractable key holder and this one is perfect. I loved it so much I bought one for my husband to use and he also likes it.
Jose Aguilar : Weak cord, Great retraction.
This was the second one I purchased. The first one tore so I ordered another one and this time it lasted ten months before it tore again. Almost lost my keys, didn’t notice it had tore and keys dropped until I walked back down the hallway at work and saw my keys on the ground. I liked the way the products worked until it tore.
Jason : Works Poorly the just Breaks altogether
This ratcheting key chain never worked very well from the start. Trying to get your keys to ratchet/wind back in often took many trys fooling around with pulling and releasing. Finally, today, it just stopped working and stayed stuck with cord extended and would not rewind at all.
Tntgolfer : Strong
Different tensions…read to make sure you get the right one for your application. I’m a locksmith with many keys…this one was great for my needs
Tiny Pieces LLC : Very nice product!
Great product for the relatively reasonable price. The mechanism functions perfectly. My only complaint is that it hangs a bit low, I would like this form factor with a belt clip. Then it would be perfect!
Z0w4DVkGSf9BfUGtlvqQ : Needs a better belt attachment but overall this is the best Key-Bak model after modification.
I don't like the included carabiner so I swapped it out with a belt clip and quick detach ring that brings the Key-Bak closer to beltline. The plastic housing is significantly tougher than the metal housing variants which I have broken several of rolling on them. The chain is smoother and less likely to bind than the kevlar cord.
Jose Aguilar : Weak cord, Great retraction.

Amazon Customer : Good quality
Perfect for regular keys but they make a different key back that has a locking system in it which I ended up buying as well because it allows me to drive with the cord loose unlike this one that I bought before I knew they had the locking one and figured I’d lock it a different way which kind of works but is a nuisance. So if u want to use it for driving get their locking one.
Amazon Customer : Amazing product, heavy duty
I love this keychain. I attach it to my pants/shorts. It’s perfect when your hands are always busy. It’s very durable, it’s heavy duty. I had one for a year and a half and was in great condition but I lost it. I came right back to find a replacement on here because it’s great. Only criticism is I wish the hook that goes on your pants loop wasn’t so long
Dana : !WARNING!
I messed up, I bought a sling shot not a badge lanyard. If im not careful this thing will bruise me. God d*** the retraction on this guy can pull a 3500 out of the depths of hell. Given the reach isn't all that. One day I was getting out of my chair I felt the badge tug, within a split second it felt as if someone just snapped a wooden ruler over my kidney. I spent about a good 2-3 mins holding my lower back, keeping my flesh from falling off. If you buy this, pray. to. God. you don't get whatever it's holding caught on anything. If it does, you better have your health insurance up to date.
S. Moss : Works exactly as described.
This works perfectly. I attach it Inside my purse so it is easy to pull out my keys. I carry a lot of stuff on my keyring...scissors, flashlight, nail clipper, multitool, etc. it is very sturdy. The chain is long enough that I don't have to remove my keys or other items to use them. I have not had the problem others have had with the chain pulling back too hard, and yet, when I am finished using what I need, the chain retracts nicely. It remains retracted until I pull on it. Highly recommend!
StressFreeLiving : Lasted 9 months
This was a great product while it lasted. String broke today. Will look for a similar product that is made of more sturdy materials. This lasted 9 months under daily heavy use opening multiple doors daily say roughly 20 or more.
DRTII : Love This Product But Both Are Now Useless
I ordered the 2 pack over a year ago and the first one managed to break (the retractable line) within 3 months. The second one lasted almost a year but yesterday the cloth/nylon piece that attaches to the clip and key-bak system finally ripped.
I'm serious when I say I love this product, I just wish they'd get a little more QC on it. You can certainly fix the weakest link (the cloth) and replace it with something stronger.

Great product for the relatively reasonable price. The mechanism functions perfectly. My only complaint is that it hangs a bit low, I would like this form factor with a belt clip. Then it would be perfect!
SAM : Strong
Husband is foreman on asphalt crew and it holds at least 20 keys, with no problem.
Romanyah : The key chain fell apart on the 1st day of use.
I ordered the key chain in Oct 2017. Today, I decided to use it. It was only holding 4 keys. OMG. The spoiler came apart. The top of the holder cracked. The keys fell to the ground. Thank goodness I heard the keys fall to the ground. Sadly yesterday, I ordered two more. I will return them once they are delivered. I am not a rough person. I used the keyholder for 4hours today. Honestly, this was my first day using the product. My goodness, who knew! Prayerfully, none of you will have the same experience.
DeeAnne : A great product
Very sturdy and easy to pull out and retract back. This was the best solution to keeping my ID badge secure and on my belt. I will buy this again
ak317 : It's big, definitely big
I purchased the chain version of the Key-Bak Secureit and when I opened the package, I realized just how long it is when you clip it to your pants belt loop and attached a few keys to it. What I've done to make it not so obvious is to put it on my hip and stick the keys into my pants pocket. The metal chain is just like your old school retractable key chains with that classic sound when you pull it out and pull it back in, and has great retraction strength to pull your key ring completely back; no sluggishness when retracting too. Just to add, the key ring is a little bit big (1 1/8th diameter); you should have some other size rings handy.
Tracy : aight
I prefer the other key back with string. I use keys constantly at work. I think this one is okay, but its to big and not long enough for my use plus I don't like the retractable chain
H-D-Rider : KEY-BAK Retractable Key Holder
Extremely well made - heavy duty (I seldom give 5-stars)
Purchased to carry (COVID-19) Touchless Keytool - Clean Key that Reduces Physical Contact with Public Surfaces, Keeps
Tiny Pieces LLC : Very nice product!
Great product for the relatively reasonable price. The mechanism functions perfectly. My only complaint is that it hangs a bit low, I would like this form factor with a belt clip. Then it would be perfect!
Frank : 1 year and 10 months before the kevlar cord failed
This was an excellent keychain, I wanted to be able to use my keys without removing them from me since I'm good at losing things, however, hover time it developed a squeak when walking; each step I took would result in a squeak. Sometimes people walking near me would hear it and then would look at me funny, not that I mind, but something to be aware of.
After just under 2 years (1 year and 10 months), the kevlar cord just snapped clean off and luckily I was able to recover my keys that were attached to it. If I wasn't paying attention, that could have been a pretty bad day for me!
I'm not sure if I would buy the product again.
Micah333 : Pull was too strong for my taste/need
I only have about 8 keys and a key fob on my key ring, but I decided to go with the Xtreme Duty because...why not. The shorter reach of the Xtreme was still long enough (it only needs to be arms length, so longer length will go unused), however, the extra pull-back necessary to support the 44 keys advertised, made it harder to pull than I desired. I'm keeping the Xtreme for a rainy day, but did order a Heavy Duty to use just for one key and my fob. Much happier with the new arrangement.
BIG DADDY : Heavy duty use only! Good and strong
Excellent for heavy duty use!! It’s definitely a little stronger than most others!
Redcloudvapor : Cord Broke on Two of Them in Less Than Two Years
I am going to need another one after my 2nd one just broke. My first one lasted about two months, and this last one worked for about a year. The cord wore out on the key end, which is exactly what happened with the first one. Other than that, they have performed well; the cord just needs to be reinforced at the key end.
Amazon Customer : Amazing product, heavy duty
