What should you do if the wood dust keeps going out?
1. Light the wood dust with a small kitchen blowtorch. You need to burn it about 15 minutes (relighting as necessary during those time) to keep a flame going and gently blow it out. Less than 15 minutes it was not enough flame to keep going
2. If the wood dust is damp, a minute or so in the microwave can extract the moisture.
3. During cold smoking, make sure to check the food every hour by lifting the lid. This allows fresh oxygen to enter which will stimulate the smoking process.

Questions about Realcook 8" Cold Smoke Generator, Hot or Cold Smoking on Any BBQ Grill and Smoker, Perfect for Smoked Salmon, Cheese, Pork and More, Smoke Time up to 4-7 Hours
Q:
How much sawdust does it take to fill it? About how many cooks would a twenty pound bag last?
Answer: This holds about 1/4 lb of sawdust, so I would expect 18 hours of cold smoke
Q:
whats the best wood to use for salmon?
Answer: Hickory, Hickory, Hickory
Answer: applewood
Answer: Alder
Q:
Do you pack the sawdust in or keep it loose?
Answer: You do not need to pack it, I pour it higher than the edges then using a ruler or something with a straight edge, screed it flat
Answer: Did not pack it, just shake and pat down!
Answer: somewhat loose
Q:
What kind of blow torch should I get for this ? Butane or propane ? Does it change the flavor ?
Answer: The kind of torch won’t affect the flavor. You just need a torch that will light the wood dust. Once they are lit, it’s just burning wood dust and the torch is turned off.
Answer: No problem, you can use both torch. Never changes the flavor. Also you can use the short candle. Enjoy!!
Answer: I think either one should work. You just have to make sure that the embers keep going. I doubt that it would change the flavor. I used a propane torch and didn't taste anything.
Answer: Neither. Use a tea lite candle. Small candle that fits on that little platform.
Q:
Where is this made?
Answer: I’m not completely sure, but sadly I’m assuming China...
Answer: China
Q:
Is this for smoker grii
Answer: Sure. You can use it on any smoker grill, charcoal grill, electric grill. Please open the grill air vent to provide enough air during the smoking time. This 8" cold smoke generator can burn it up to 4-7 hours. Thank you!
Answer: This is for cold smoking meats, fish and cheese, it’s used at temperatures below 75°
Q:
Does it really take 15 minutes with a blow torch to start this thing? It seems like in 15 minutes you would burn all of the wood dust.
Answer: In my experience, once you get it burning with a torch (about 15-30 seconds) you can let it go naturally - however, blow out any flame that might exist after 15 minutes...the idea is to get a good portion of the material smoldering so there's enough heat to continue around the whole path.
Answer: I tried to start the burn on this unit . it never kept burning , it just kept going out. I returned the product and ordered a slow electric cold smoker.
Answer: With a torch like 5 seconds! Just need to start the outside end.
Answer: I don't know about fifteen minutes but it does take several minutes to get a good steady burn going.
Q:
Where can I get Alder sawdust? I only see chips
Answer: I made my own and used cherry! Order online?
Q:
where to find bech wood dust for smoker?
Answer: Why limit yourself to beech wood? These do work with wood chips or pellets...
Answer: i don''t know whereto look for it. maybe a woodwoorkin shop near you
Q:
Will this work with the “saw dust” from a chain saw?
Answer: The problem is that a standard used chainsaw discharges bar oil with the saw dust, so you'd be smoking your food with, essentially, motor oil and wood. If you purged it maybe. In. But best to buy the cheapest chainsaw you can get, and use vegetable oil as the bar oil...
Answer: It works best with sawdust.
Answer: Don't use just any sawdust. Use sawdust intended for smoking food
Q:
Does this require wood dust to keep burning, or will it work with pellets as well?
Answer: It works best with dust
Answer: no it does not.make sure it is completely dry otherwise it wont burn
Answer: I personally use dust
Q:
Does the saw dust in the parallel channel catch fire as well or will this actually just burn in one lane or channel only ?
Answer: It burns one lane for the most part. there is a little bit of lane jumping happening. Starting the fire with a propane torch was easy. than k
Answer: After trying several methods to utilize the smoke generator I have found that if you start with a one layer bed of smashed briquettes, light them with a burnzamatic torch. Let the briquettes get good and glowing. Place the filled (pressed down with chips) smoke generator on top. It smokes very well.
Answer: It does burn as one channel. You'll need a tea candle under it to start.
Answer: Don't waste your money. This thing is a piece of junk .
Q:
To use, just put it in the bottom of a Weber, instead of charcoal, light candle, and let it go for 18-24 hrs? What is temp in the grill?
Answer: This product can adds awesome smoke flavor to everything, like meats, fishes, cheese and so on. It is perfect for cold smoking and hot smoking. But the product does not the heat source. For hot smoking, you still need the charcoal.
Answer: It’s a cold smoke generator,, what heat? This isn’t for BBQ.
Product reviews of Realcook 8" Cold Smoke Generator, Hot or Cold Smoking on Any BBQ Grill and Smoker, Perfect for Smoked Salmon, Cheese, Pork and More, Smoke Time up to 4-7 Hours
Amazon Customer : No good
Didn't work with anything I tried
Bryon Hess : Works great... with pellets.
I use smoking pellets rather than saw dust. Works great and makes a lot of smoke. I would not recommend using saw dust in it. Saw dust settles too easy into a dense pack, leaving less air circulation around the wood particles. Pellets are densely compressed, but leave ample air between each pellet. A candle will not light them well though, I use a torch to start mine. I place it in the bottom of a vertical smoker that I converted to electric for more accurate temp control. The pellets produce a lot of smoke for about 4 hours before I have to refill the coil basket. Pellets come in such a variety of flavors that each time I use it, I can change up my flavors rather easily, I can even mix different pellets on the same burn. I've never had the smoke burn out with the use of pellets, but it dies quickly when I use sawdust. I hope this helps.
Dan Johnson : This product works GREATTTTTT.
Great product
John D. Pilla : Not sure why, didn't work for us
Does not work very well at all. Saw Dust purchased for it keeps going out.
betterorforworse : Just does not burn/work , no matter how you do it...
Just for you to know, I used dry saw dust (used moisture meter). I tried many grinds and mixtures, including some pellets, mixin, NO-GO / FUBAR !!! A total waste of my time, and money. OK, let me be perfectly clear, nothing will beat a cheap six dollar hot plate form walmart, with a cast iron pot (with out lid) with a bag of wood chips tossed in, GEZZZZE.....
WTF
Hotena : Must use dry and small sawdust or it will not work
Must Use dry sawdust to work . TIP if you need more smoke light up from the end and the center at the sametime . Also you can use hair dryer to egnite sawdust faster to the max till you see a flame .
Yonny : DOESN'T WORK
HORRIBLE PRODUCT
DOESN'T SMOKE , THE BURNING PROCESS DOESN'T START
MONEY FOR NOTHING
Jeremy Hebert : Very difficult to keep lit.
It seems like such a simple and reasonable concept, however that which looks good on paper doesn't always work out so well in practice.
I really wanted this to work. Lighting the sawdust was not too difficult, but keeping it lit was seemingly impossible. It would give off nice smoke for two or three minutes and then die completely. I'd very gently blow on the embers and it would glow spectacularly and begin smoking like mad for a couple of minutes, then die. It was a horrid cycle that was getting me nowhere.
After some research, including from some who have provided reviews here, I decided to bake my sawdust for several hours in the oven in order to ensure that it was as dry as it could be. It made absolutely no difference. Smoke a little, die, re-light, repeat.
If I could come up with some way to apply very gentle direct air to the embers, even puffs every few seconds, it might actually work. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
Edmund Woods : Five Stars
great product
Jordan Camacho : Trouble staying lit
Wouldn't stay lit. Great idea, but kept going out.
Christian : Not impressed at all.
Been trying to keep this thing lit for over four (4) hours. Keep relighting the saw dust and minutes later it goes out again. I would NOT recommend this product for Cold Smoking.
Jason : Cold smoking tool
This takes quite a bit to start. Not only do I use a tea light candle, I also use a tourch to get it going. Once it is finally smoking on its own it will burn all the way through.
Trevor Fell : Poor design which looked like a good idea.
Really quite poor in design. Several test burns resulted in the burn jumping spiral rings and burning in multiple directions. This causes too much heat to develop in the smoker. It needs spacing between rings to avoid transferring enough heat to start adjacent areas burning.
Mr d : Not to good
To small and metal gets hot and starts other of the ring to start burning.
Val : looks pretty but not much good
looks pretty but not much good
ahmed : Not bad
Did the job but it is not easy to start it up it needs more time

Christopher : GREAT!
I don’t know what anybody else is talking about this thing not working but if you put the correct items in there and do exactly what it says it will be fine I was actually able to make this with a stick like without using the candle this thing is and absolute wonder to cold smoke. It kept my smoker 2 1/2 days
Will Lankford : Stayed lit
Worked great
Bailey : Had a hard time keeping it lit.
I gave it three stars because it struggled to keep the sawdust lit. I tried different suggestions for drying the sawdust but it just wasn't staying lit. I'm going to try it again and will update if it works better than my first go around.
Nikolay Yakshin : cold smokr generator
works amazingly. just wish that the metal was a bit thicker and more rigid.
Daniel F. : doesn't work with any types of wood
doesn't work

Burne : Great....
Great item, eazy to use
Texas Hill Country : This smoke generator does not generate smoke.
I would have given this product zero stars if Amazon allowed it. I have made several attempts at cold smoking using this smoke generator and hickory sawdust. The sawdust will simply not stay lit no matter what I try. First attempt was using the sawdust straight out of the bag and lighting with a tea light as per the instructions. No dice. Would not stay lit. Plenty of air flow into the smoker so that was not the issue. After searching for solutions I tried several, including baking the sawdust to ensure that it is totally dry, microwaving for the same reason, and grinding the sawdust into finer dust. None of these things worked and this smoke generator simply does not generate smoke. Anyway, I'm pretty bummed that this is a worthless product because I had very high hopes for it.
Adramalech : Easy to use
Great tool for cold smoking. Super easy to use and get great results.
ahmed : Not bad
Did the job but it is not easy to start it up it needs more time

Gazficko : Anyone who gave it a bad rating don't know what they are doing
When used correctly it worked perfectly. I used Traeger pellets out of the bag. The key is to not overfill the channels to allow the walls to do what they are supposed to.
Val : looks pretty but not much good

Mark Gugel : Won't stay lit.
This smoke generator won't stay lit. I read the reviews and learned that the reason these won't stay lit is because the sawdust is damp. I believed it and gave it a try. No way. Even after dying my sawdust for an hour ar 350F, the smoke generator won't smolder for more than an hour.
Max Montrose : Good idea but doesn't work
I tried lighting it with the candle, and a blow torch, and a few other methods. Unfortunately sawdust doesn't burn like an insence stick the way this product wishes it did. It doesn't.
Amazon Customer : No good
Didn't work with anything I tried
Amazon Customer : Trying to get it to work
So far it is hard to get started. Using a candle does not work. Left it burning for 30 minutes bit nothing. I will try it with a torch. If that doesn't work I will be returning it.

Wonderful product & great value. Look no further!
Robert Murphy : potential
Could be a very awesome tool. Need to figure it out. Could not get wood to burn properly.
Baker : Would not buy again
Was a lot smaller than the picture and what they advertised.
L. Ward : Used this with pellets, NOT sawdust
First try was magic! It took a bit to light - I just didn’t hold the torch there long enough the first couple tries. Smoked Gouda and salmon, came out perfect!
Handyman : Great smoke generator
I found that once lit it jumps over and the next coil lights .burn time is reduced
