Does it have strong plastic smell? I bought one from magic mill with stainless tray but whole unit was made of plastic and had bad smell

Answer: I have never noticed a plastic smell when using and I cook my jerky on high... I washed the trays before I used them and gave the interior a wipe down before my first use. Hope this helps. I love mine!

Answer: Hi, my husband purchased the Aroma and loves it. Not sure if it is the same as the Samson model. But it works great and is not noisy while it is dehydrating. Well worth the money. Her purchased a more expensive model and this one is by far the better dehydrator.

Answer: Yes, we have made crunchy kale "chips" many times. We lightly oil and salt the kale leaves before dehydrating. Makes a great snack!

Does anyone else have a problem with the time only going up to 19 minutes and 30 seconds?

Answer: I thought that at first too, but it's actually 19 hours and 30 minutes (the bottom of page 5 of the manual indicates that you can toggle the timer up or down in 30 minute increments). 20 hours in a single use is the maximum run time, then the unit needs to be off for a couple of hours to cool down.

Answer: I have never dried peas in the dehydrator yet; however, the peas would probably fall thru the stainless steel squares but it comes with BPF free plastic trays that fit on top of the stainless steel ones so that smaller things won't fall thru.

Answer: The plastic insert tray holes are very small and will support drying peas. The plastic trays are placed on top of the steel racks.

Answer: U could put them one the plastic tray that sits on top of metal tray and have no problem.

Does this model have more than one knobs? Can you run it with just the fan and no temperature?

Answer: My model has one knob - to control the heat setting - and one power switch that lights up red when the power is turned on. The lowest listed temperature on the dial is 95 degrees, but the knob turns all the way until it reaches a listed OFF position. So it looks like you can run fan-only if you have the time.

Answer: It has only one knob to control temperature but you van turn it all the way down and turn the heat unit off and the fan still runs.

So we threw out the box and didn’t get the drip tray or mesh inserts out. I can make it work, but can I order parts?

Answer: Ugh. The silicone mesh sheets are available for purchase on the Aroma website. I like the sheets so much I'm not sure I would want to use the Aroma without them. The slide-out plastic shelves will work without the sheets but it will be messy, for sure. And I have a feeling the hard plastic shelves are going to be a pain to clean without the silicone protectors. The difference in cleanup time alone is enough to keep me from eschewing the sheets. I recommend you bite the bullet and re-purchase the sheets that you threw away. You'll be glad you did.

Good job of design ('80s Chinese) and construction. Simple to use and performed perfectly with apple slices. I experimented with temperatures and their recommendation was correct. It did take longer than the 10 hours on the timer.

Excellent-works as advertised. We had an old style that was outdated. This style with the rear fan worked much better. As far as noise I could hardly hear it.

I have been looking for a food dehydrator with stainless steel trays for making beef jerky. The fan is quite and it does have a timer. I ordered the precut thin sliced organic meat and used 4 trays for 3 lbs of meat. It works a lot faster than my previous dehydrator. It is definitely a good buy for the price.

[update] 5 months later, this dehydrator's still working well. Depending on the thickness of the meat, it can be done between 4 and 6 hours. The timer is really handy and it shuts off automatically. I do not understand why some reviewers say there is no timer for this item. I purchased "Aroma Nutriware 6 Tray Digital Dehydrator Stainless Steel Trays, White" directly from Amazon. The item I received matches the description.

So far, so good, I am loving this dehydrator. We had the standard one you buy at Walmart or wherever, but wanted to invest in one that is larger with more space and more options, this one has fit the bill. It does take up a fair amount of real estate on a counter top, imagine turning your smaller microwave on its side to use it, but it has great sturdy trays and liners and nothing has fallen through yet! So that is a huge plus for me. I mostly dehydrate veggies for storage and meat for jerky. There is also the option of using the flat liner and making fruit roll ups. In a square will be so convenient, and much easier to cook than any other round dehydrator I have ever bought. I will keep my old one, but this one is such a step up and easy to use! :)

Works like a charm. I esply love the "window" it is non BPA plastic so I am okay with it. the racks are NOT plastic and this was a must for me. It was lighter than I thought so its hot hard to move around. So far its holding up...Have made fruit leathers, kale chips, pineapple chips, and sweet potato chips (my dogs love sweet potato chips and this was the main reason I bought it!) Would recommend it for a mid to lower price point dehydrator. It has a timer too and love that. The only thing I dislike is that is lowers the temperature in 9 degree increments...odd.
