We have not specifically tested the flip reel to 200lb and whilst we believe the structural integrity of the reel will be fine, hand line fishing is not normally associated with such high weights. Answer: It really depends on what you are fishing for you can put any size you want on it. I did not like the product. It doesn't work well at all. I tried different sizes and tried mono and braided lines and followed directions it just isn't that great. The concept is great but it function is not. It great in case of emergency and better than nothing.

This is great I'm buying a second one. Casting takes some practice but after a few attempts I was reaching out to about 100 feet. It's very small and really compact, this is perfect for camping or for travel.

Mine may not show verified purchase because it was on my wish list and someone purchased mine off my list. I like that it is comfortable to hold and the fact that you can wrap up everything on just pack and move. Also the line cutter came in handy and works wellWhat sucks is the thing just didn't work I wet the rubber and line and still could not cast it out. The line just would go out one turn or so and stick to the rubber. I also want to note that the original line it came with was not wrapped correctly in fact it was tangled up. The concept on this is awesome it needs a better design and also better quality control. I will take this out fishing a few more times and if anything changes I will update my review.

Like some of the other reviewers I took this on a long adventure requiring me to carry it over several hundred miles. When the perfect moment finally revealed its self I was left with complete frustration and disappointment. No matter what kind of line you put on this reel or how much you wet the line it will not cast due to how grippy the rubber bell is. Great concept but missed the mark, I question the legitimacy of these 5 star reviews.

I'm hoping for a version 2.0 that solves this because I really want to like it but can't recommend it as this point.

Very disappointed in this product.

No matter how much weight I tied on, the line would not unspool from the reel when I cast it. As soon as the slack ran out, the line would grab the silicone rubber bell and snap back. This happened even if I wet the bell beforehand. It was actually a little dangerous as the weight came straight back towards me just as fast as it had been going out. Fortunately for me, I was just practicing so there were no hooks on the line yet. The only way to get any length on my cast was to first unspool the line and let it lay on the ground around my feet. You can imagine the mess that makes.

It's too bad because I really liked that the bell would cover the tackle when folded back over, which would keep hooks and lures from snagging in my pack. Oh well.

Got this for a family lake vacation so my son and I could do some fishing. It takes a while to get casting down, but once you do it is a great hand fishing reel.

Love that it has the flaps to hold the line and rigging in place while it is packed away. The silicone rubber flaps catch the line when “casting” the line out. It is better when it is wet as the instructions state, but it still catches and you do need to keep getting it wet. When the flexible and grippy gasket grabs the line it snaps it back to you, frustrating to have to keep wetting it and then still have it happen. You have to take all the line out that you are going to cast and let it lay on the bank if you actually want a good cast. I like the size of the spool for winding back up (better than a hobo line) and it is really easy to hold on to. Maybe with a lighter rig than what it comes with it might uncoil off the reel like described. I have only used it as packaged with the medium setup.

I love that the flap will contain the hook and sinker. This is great for transport. The flap does seem to take away from the "castability" even when wetted per instructions. I actually used it while snorkeling so the casting factor was not as important to me. I would recommend this product but realize that it does take practice.

Well, whoever wrote the add for this thing sure isn't a fisherman. And it needs a lot of improvement also. The flip band come from the wrong side. The line cutter works excellent but is on the wrong side. The grippy like silicone drags the line bad. You should cast out the other side, with a harder plastic ring, but it steep, silicone, and there is the dang cutter in the way. No wonder the product video basically only shows a ten year old using it to drop a hand line three feet down beside the dock. Yeah the thing is convenient, but not for someone trying to catch fish. Other than those you could get with a net. I bought this because of the compact nature, and it protects the line. It needs lots of work before I'll buy one to go into my backpack, or my survival bag. I mean it refuses to say what lbs line is spooled on it. That's the first thing I'll replace before wetting a hook.
