Answer: Up ring is 30", and the bottom ring is 16"

does this rig come with a surface float at end of rope?

Answer: No, has everything except the surface float and bait trap. It’s a great net

Is the middle of the bottom ring mesh or netting?

Answer: It's wire mesh

I'm looking for a bridge/pier net to retrieve large fish when fishing on a pier. How is this net for the task?

Answer: My personal feeling is while this would definitely be a great pier net and do the job well, it's a little on the heavy side for that.

Answer: The net is pretty strong! I used to landing a 50Lb salmon to the boat.

Answer: The weight of it may be a little cumbersome for a large catch; but, I did see a guy using a similar one to retrieve salmon at a nearby marina. The ropes are plenty strong for crabbing; however, you may want to consider replacing them if you're catching big aggressive fish. The top ring is 30" in diameter and It has a nice depth though, so it should contain a good size fish. Hope that helps.

The top appears to be open..what keeps crabs from escaping?

Answer: Yes, the top is open, the crab will drop to the bottom if you try to pole the crab trap out of the water.

Answer: There are two different types. Ring and box. This one is a ring net and you normally pull it up every 15-20min to check. Basically it flats on the bottom and while crabs come in and enjoy the bait, you pull it up and you catch them.

Is this free returning？

Would this work as a pier net for hauling up fish that are too large to pull up on your regular fishing line?

Answer: I bought two of these last year and used them for ???? fishing on the Oregon coast. I don’t see why you couldn’t use it to haul up a large fish ???? from a pier assuming you can maneuver around the three retrieval lines. The only downside of the product was that the rubber-wrap quickly began to come unraveled from the ring. I suggest you secure the wrap better with several zip-ties before you leave the house.

Answer: Yes, definitely. Seems a bit big for that task, but you'd be covered for larger fish as the need arises. Great idea, I should snag 1 more just for that purpose.

Are the holes in the net small enough to keep bait shad in?

Answer: The holes are way to large for bait shad

Great product. Very sturdy and well built.

We crab off the floats at our local marina. We bought a longer rope but didn't need it. What came with the trap is plenty. It has already paid for itself in the number of crabs we've had for dinner. We did buy a crab bait cage and zip tied it to the wire bottom of the trap. Not a necessity; but, nice to have. It's well made and will probably last us years.

Do not get this ring if you are trying to catch blue crab! The wire on the bottom and the net are both much too large and even large keepers will fall thru.

Bought five of these rings and finally used them this past week. They worked well and seem to be of quality material, only time will tell. They are lighter and deeper than rings we've used in the past so they are easier to retrieve and crab tend to not be able to swim out as quickly

This product works great, It is easy to pull in. I use this crab trap while I am anchored soaking my square pots. I throw this one in the water off the side of the boat and let it sit for about a half our inbetween each pull. It has some nice weight to it also so it sinks well. It doesnt float sideways like some of the other cheaper pots. The rope is a standard rope. I would reccommend switching to a leaded line rope if you are going to leave your pot. Just so the rope sinks and wont get run over if you not staying close or using it off a dock. Pulled some decent crab up with this and a starfish!

Bought 6 of these for 34.99 each 8/10/16. They are built well but the mesh holes are way to big. I had multiple keeper sized crabs escape. I covered with a smaller mesh and now they work fine. Poor description. Either state mesh size or state not for blue claw. Why did price nearly double in 2 weeks?
