Questions about Morakniv Fishing Comfort Fillet Knife with Sandvik Stainless Steel Blade
Q:
Why is there a legal disclaimer about chemicals containing cancer and birth defects? What chemicals and on a knife?
Answer: This is an error and we are working on getting this notification removed as it should not be flagged. The steel is Sandvik Stainless steel made in Sweden and this contains no harmful chemicals. prop 65
Answer: Because practically everything (including red meat and french fries) is a potential carcinogen over a long enough time at a high enough level of exposure, especially if it's synthetic like the plastic and rubber in the handle. The State of Califronia is paranoid and their excessive vigilance forces this label onto basically anything that a manufacturer wants to sell in the state... To the point where the warning has lost all meaning (The Boy Who Cried Cancer).
Q:
What is the quality of the steel used in this knife?
Answer: Sandvik steel is a high quality stainless steel that holds an edge well and is highly rust resistant - It's a perfect steel for a fillet knife.
Answer: In simple terms outstanding
Q:
does it come with 1 blade or 2?
Answer: One blade.
Answer: Only one blade.
Answer: One blade
Answer: One .... it was $10 cheaper when I bought mine and an OK purchase however I would not purchase it at $26.
Answer: One.
Answer: One.
Q:
How does this knife compare to the Rapala/Marttiini knives as far as edge retention and flex?
Answer: Compares well. Does great on panfish and crappie. Blade has good edge retention and is flexible as you would expect in a more expensive knife. Can't beat it for the price. Knife locks in rigid sheath to prevent loss.
Answer: I can't answer about the comparison you're referring to, but I just used mine to skin and completely process a deer including de-boning steaks etc and was still able to shave hairs off my arm. So I'd say it holds its edge just as good as any other mora knife and the flex is suitable to me. Also easily rehoned back to "scary sharp".
Q:
Is the sheath ambidextrous?
Answer: Yes sir, you can use it on either side of your body. However the knife goes in the sheath only one way.
Answer: No it only clicks in one way.
Answer: Yes, it can write with both hands.
Q:
Does 3.5 work as cleaning and filleting small fish? I'm looking something small to carry on with me.
Answer: Like everything I would think it’s personal preference, but I will say I use the 6” blade and it works great for Perch, Bluegill and even larger Walleye and I love it. The 3.5 is definitely smaller, but the 6” blade, I believe about 10” total, is not a burden to carry, but my opinion. Whichever you decide to go with, it’s a great fillet knife. Good luck!
Answer: Works fine on pan fish. That's what I purchased it for.
Answer: Should be fine. Might not be as clean as a longer knife but it will get the job done
Answer: No. I would not recommend this knife to anyone. Doesn’t hold an edge and is to wide for filleting
Q:
Does this knife come with a sheath?
Answer: Yes it does. Hard plastic sheath. Nice out fit
Answer: Yes a plastic molded one. Nothing dressy but very functional.
Answer: Yes plastic
Answer: A plastic one YES
Answer: Yes it does
Answer: Yes
Q:
How well does this knife work for cleaning dolphin or say wahoo?
Answer: This works exceedingly well for filleting fish up to about 10-15 lbs. used it rim and again on our AK salmon trip.
Answer: This knife is intended for smaller inshore fish. Mora makes other larger fillet knives that are better suited for cleaning offshore species of fish. In short, this knife is probably too small for your needs.
Answer: I love this knife and should work for you!
Answer: Not sure about those two,but this knife has been great for everything so far and I use it in my kitchen for everything.
Answer: should do alright, the Morakniv knives are the sharpest knives I have straight from factory.
Q:
Is it dishwasher safe?
Answer: The knife blade is stainless so it should be dishwasher safe.
Answer: yes but be careful with the blade. these are real-real sharp from the factory sharpest knife I ever owned.
Answer: I don’t think I would hesitate to throw it in personally. I throw my mora filet knife in there.
Q:
Is this knife good for trout?
Answer: Yes, done several sea trout this year.
Answer: Yes, this is fillet blade with excellent steel.
Q:
Does the 3.5” knife hold well in its sheath? I’m looking for something to carry on my belt while fishing.
Answer: Like all the Moraknivs, this one snaps snugly into its sheath while still being easy to extract for use. This one is a small fillet knife. While fishing, I carry the 3.9 inch Morakniv bait knife. I love all my several Moraknivs!
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: It holds the knife very well I don't see it ever falling out,
Answer: Yes it holds very well
Answer: It is a pretty snug fit. Should be fine for that.
Answer: Mora knives are great!! The sheaths IMO are inconsistent. They're tough and practical and I'd say 75% of the Moras I've owned, the sheath has held the knife very securely. That said, 25% haven't. I have or had probably a dozen different models and there seems to be no rhyme or reason other than QC. This particular knife holds well but the longer fillet knife doesn't. Go figure! My girlfriend actually uses this knife and carries it on her wader belt with no issues. Would I buy this knife again or any other Mora for that matter....YES!!!!
Answer: Yes - the knife is unlikely to fall out of the sheath.
Answer: It has worked well for me
Q:
Does the 3.5” knife hold well in its sheath? Meaning, it won’t fall out? Looking for something to carry on my hip for quick bleeding or gutting.
Answer: it definitely won't fall out.i was quite surprised to find that the sheath was plastic, but then I realized that it was a step up.very light and secure.
Answer: I answered this question earlier.i bought the fileting knife which won't fall out of it's sheath.i don't know about the smaller knife.
Q:
What is the best way to sharpen this knife if needed?
Answer: Knife sharpen that chief would use
Answer: A Spyderco Sharpmaker keeps my fillet knives screaming sharp.
Answer: I use the SiliSlick 2 stage portable sharper that seems to work quite well.
Q:
Stiff or flexible?
Answer: A little more flexible. A great knife for panfish.
Answer: The best fillet knife ever. Perfectly flexible.
Answer: Flexible
Q:
Is this a slotted sheath? Seems like it would be difficult to clean and provide less protection for the knife. What has been people's experience?
Answer: The knife is pretty well protected in the sheath. I haven't yet but I believe the sheath could be put in the dish washer with no problem. Overall very nice fillet knife I would recommend it.
Answer: it is slotted, it protects the knife just fine. I only use this knife at home or in the back yard filleting fish, i dont use the attached belt holder. The knife can completely dry while in the sheath. As you can imagine this knife is extremely sharp and keeping it in the sheath is very good idea.
Answer: Yes the sheath it slotted, it was designed that way for easy cleaning and I believe to keep water from settleing in the case. It works great.
Answer: It's fantastic, allows the knife to dry on the go, and easier to clean than a typical sheath. Very well thought out and durable to boot.
Answer: It is slotted, but not hard to clean. It also doesn't trap dirt/gunk/rust/water where you can't see it. I had the same concerns, but the sheath is fine.
Answer: Just the opposite... cleans twice as fast and plenty protection, In my opinion it's the perfect sheath.
Answer: It is slotted, all-plastic and washable.
Q:
Is this knife full tang?
Answer: Dont know what you mean by "full tang"
Answer: Yes
Q:
The 3.5 shows two different sheaths, depending on which model you choose? Does anyone have a pic of the sheath it comes with?
Q:
Is there a recommended sharpener for this knife?
Answer: Morakniv uses a simple grind on these, so any good quality sharpener will work well. I like to use a compact steel or carbide sharpener for quick touch-ups and high-quality stones when the blade needs more work. The Victornox 4.3323 Pocket Knife Sharpener is a great in-between sharpening tool and I always keep one handy.
Answer: After 1.5 seasons of fishing, I have not needed to sharpen mine yet. It is still VERY sharp.... Like a molten hot knife through butter..
Answer: I have used this knife for two seasons now and I have only needed to use a steel to put an edge back on the blade.
Answer: Its scandi ground so its really easy to use sharpening stones on this knife.
Answer: No, but most mora knoves are a scandanavian grind (not sure about this one....I got the shorter version.)
Answer: No
Q:
What are the advantages/disadvantages of the 3 1/2 inch knife versus the longer one?
Answer: I personally feel that you are going to want to buy bolth I find I use them equally. The 3 1/2 inch knife is awesome for removing y bones or other pesky bones from your cut fillets I also use it extensively on pan fish the 7 inch is like any other traditional fillet knife but sense it is a Mora you will find it hardly ever gets dull most ilof the time I just hit it with a steel and that's enough had my set for three seasons and probably cleaned close to 70 fish with this set
Answer: The advantage depends on application. For skinning and cutting muscle groups from a deer, and especially a rabbit, the shorter blade is much preferred. I only say this because I've tried to use the longer one and the shorter is better. The longer blade is much better where a flexible blade is needed to get a good fillet like filleting meat and skin from a fish or filleting grisle/tendons from deer roasts and steaks. Having both knives covers almost every application that a hunter/gamesman might encounter when processing thier own animals.
Answer: I ordered the smaller one just thinking it would be easier to filet smaller fish. I do love the knife I just use it for other stuff and ended up ordering the longer knife for filleting it's much easier
Answer: It has been just the right size for the 8-20 lb catfish I catch. I think you get more control with this blade. As reviews have noted, handle is plastic--but well attached and blade is fantastic
Answer: better control for a smaller tasks. Same reason you do not use the sword to peel a potato
Q:
What is the cutting angle of this blade 15, 17, 20 plus degrees?
Answer: Not sure. But it is a great knife. Very sharp and flexible.
Q:
Is this a flexible boning knife?
Answer: Flexible fillet knife
Answer: It's a little stiff
Q:
What is the handle made of?
Answer: It's a non slip grip overmolded plastic. Probably a HDPE. But I'm not positive.
Q:
Is the blade flexible?
Answer: Yes, this has a flexible fillet blade.
Answer: I wouldn't call it "Flexible". It will probably break after a few degrees or stay bent.
Q:
Can i cut slices of tilapia fish with this knife?
Answer: Yes, it's a filet knife made for that kind of stuff.
Answer: Yes no problem
Q:
Does the 3.5” knife hold well in its sheath? Meaning, it won’t fall out? Looking for something to carry on my hip for quick bleeding or gutting
Answer: It holds in the sheath tight. I have mine strapped to the t-top of my ocean boat for a quick access bait knife, and it hasn't came out of the sheath in rough seas.
Answer: Very secure for a press-fit. I like it better than the older top strap design
Q:
What degree is the blade sharpened
Answer: sharpest knife I ever owned & i'm a knife collecter.around 100 knives.
Q:
My sheath broke anyone know how I can go about getting replacement for 6.1 knife?
Answer: Please contact info@industrialrev.com to get a replacement. Let them know you have a comfort fillet with a 6.1" blade and that your sheath broke.
Answer: It may be expensive to replace the sheath, if available separately. In the past, I have reused a sheath from a different retired knife.......or .........jury rigged it with duct tape....etc. surprisingly the repaired ones ,despite being unattractive were quite functional and long lasting.
Answer: I would contact the manufacturer.
Q:
I have a 6.1" and love it. I'm not seeing a larger blade, do you make a longer fillet knife? If not please do.

Q:
What is the flexibility?
Answer: Able to bend without breaking. The knife will move down the backbone of a fish unlike some other stiffer knives. Always keep it sharp and it will do the job you want.
Answer: Not too much
Q:
Where it made?
Answer: Sweden
Answer: Made in Mora Sweden

Product reviews of Morakniv Fishing Comfort Fillet Knife with Sandvik Stainless Steel Blade
Heidema : the best fillet knife I've ever used
This is by far, the best fillet knife I've ever used. The Morakniv is razor-sharp coming out of the package. It keeps this edge even after cleaning 25 bluegills from the frozen lakes in Michigan. A great fillet knife with a great price.
Jeff Hanson : No sheath included
The knife arrived quickly but had no sheath. It says in the product description and on the package that it has a sheath, has a space in the packaging for a sheath, but no sheath was included. How is that not noticed before its shipped?? Its a clear package which clearly has no sheath. The knife was just bare bladed. Returning item for a refund. I'll buy a different brand.
C. maynard : Should be rated as #1
The reviews are on the money. Lost my best fillet knife the other day. I was going to bite the bullet and spend over $100 on a top 3 knifes. So glad I didn't. Never though any knife could be as good as my old friend. I was wrong. Don't hesitate on buying this one. You will not be disappointed.
Bryan M. Whitehead : Mora knives rock
I’m a fan of Swedish steel in general and Mora Knives in particular, I have a few. Well crafted and sharp even as it arrived.
AG : Perfect for the purpose, ergonomics, blade geometry, edge, practicality.
Excellent fillet knife. Perfect ergonomics and blade geometry. Comes sufficiently sharp. After almost two years of use I resharpened it at 17.5 degrees. Took me 15 min and the edge is perfect. The skeleton holster is very practical to quickly holster it and quickly rinse it holstered (important if you are on a boat) . All in all is seems perfect for the purpose .
Steve 55 : NEVER met a Mora I didn't like!!
Comfy grip, razor sharp out of the box. Isn't my choice to fillet but on a trout.....ya buddy! Biggest problem with a Mora, including this one, is keeping it out of your "buddies" tackle boxes!!
B and B : I like this knife quite a bit more than my dexter-russels
I like this knife quite a bit more than my dexter-russels. It's very sharp out of the box, and I like the mirror finish on the sides of the blade when I am skinning filets. It also cleans up a little easier than a normal finish too. I wish I could get one about an inch longer because I have encountered a few filets wide enough that I needed to skin in two passes. Not a huge deal but a little more work.
Nakz96744 : Not so sharp
I own several Morakniv and love them all. This knife is the exact shape and size that I wanted to process deer. My problem is that it doesn't hold an edge as well my others. Not sure what the difference is.
Edward Johnson : My last medium sized filet knife
Sweede made flexible filter knife. I'm a bit of a knife geek and believe that every knife you own should preform it propose. As a medium filet knife it does just that. It arrives sharp enough to do its job but I never buy a knife with out sharpening better before use. No knife will just stay sharp and you will have to hone and sharpen Before it gets dull. That is life. This knife holds its edge as to be expected from any filet knife. Buy it if you want a medium grade well designed medium sized fillet knife.
Scott Bunn : Sharp!
Filleted some catfish with this knife and it worked great!
Crabtree Fleck : What's not to love. Its a Mora so it came insanely sharp ...
What's not to love. Its a Mora so it came insanely sharp out of the package. Its extremely comfortable even after several hours of use. I prefer this knife over my Cutco fisherman solution fillet knife. Please don't tell my mother in law as she bought the f.s. fillet knife for me and paid 4 times as much as my Mora. You can never go wrong buying a Morakniv as they are all worth much more then the asking price.
goht : Good sharp nice for fishing
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He says it works well. It cut very nice and is a must have for fishing.
Robert Sheno : Incredibly sharp knife, I think I own at least ...
Incredibly sharp knife, I think I own at least one different type of Mora knives that are made and still buying more. I also own expensive knives but nothing beats the quality and price of Mora.
R : The knife is great and really sharp.
Ordered another so called brand DPNAO, which was supposed to be made in Germany according to asked question, but it was made in China. Still wanted to give it a chance, but it was sooo dull that it rendered itself useless.
So I ordered Morakniv Fishing Comfort Fillet Knife with Sandvik Stainless Steel Blade.
The difference between the real Swedish steel and so called steel fillet knife made in China was immediately visible.
This is a really sharp fillet knife made in Sweden with Swedish steel. Works like a charm.
Will update about durability, but as of now fantastic.
Highly recommend.
B and B : I like this knife quite a bit more than my dexter-russels

Nick : My Mom’s favorite
Bought it as a gift for my mom she loves it
husker415 : Great tool!!
A little too short and thick bladed to be a fillet knife for most uses, but makes a great tool for cutting bait. The quality is great and the blade comes super sharp and holds its edge. Haven't had to re-sharpen it yet, but expect good results. Morakniv makes excellent knives for a guy who wants the best at a price most can afford.
Kevin : Good lord this knife is sharp.
Purchased this filet knife on Amazon in 2015. Blade arrived very sharp. I maintain the blade with a leather strop... Now it's stupid sharp.
goht : Good sharp nice for fishing
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He says it works well. It cut very nice and is a must have for fishing.
Stephen A. Trulove : Very nice Knife. Holds an edge well
Very nice Knife.
Holds an edge well, and is shaped perfectly for everything from filleting and boning, to thin slicing tomatoes.
I'll probably order another one, just to have an extra one on hand. It's destined to be one of my favorite kitchen knives.
Kevin : Good lord this knife is sharp.
Purchased this filet knife on Amazon in 2015. Blade arrived very sharp. I maintain the blade with a leather strop... Now it's stupid sharp.
Emily : and is the perfect length for filleting
My husband loves it. Says it holds an edge really well for a cheaper knife, and is the perfect length for filleting.
Erik : Fantastic knife
Used this on my first catch of the season and it was one of the easiest fillets I've ever cut. Comes sharp and ready to go. Love the two attachments for the sheath. Love it.
dm : sharp sharp sharp
great super sharp knife, have one of their utility knives & it is also very very sharp. hi grade stainless keep them on boat- saltwater use so far no rust showing.
Edward Greff : Street Legal
I bought this knife to take along on my trout fishing trips to Colorado. The carry laws in that state limit knives to blades of 3.5 inches and this knife fits the bill. You can wear it on your belt and forget it and not worry about taking it off because you are in the local town buying supplies.
For years the knives I have kept in my kitchen are Rada. I have used them for one important reason - they are razor sharp and super easy to maintain that way. These Morakniv knives give them a run for their money.
Continued comment: I use this knife in my kitchen on a daily basis. It is the pairing knife I reach for every time. The blade shape is great for multiple tasks and it has the best handle of any other knife I use to cook.
Amazon Customer : Ideal
Great sheath,steel,and grip,what you need.
GSC : Great knife ????
Quality and lightweight. I use this knife on every fishing trip. Hasn't lost it's edge yet and have been using pretty heavily. Would recommend to anyone needing a good knife out in the field.
Jeff Hanson : No sheath included
The knife arrived quickly but had no sheath. It says in the product description and on the package that it has a sheath, has a space in the packaging for a sheath, but no sheath was included. gene sato : Sharp out of the box?
Not as sharp as Rapala out of the box, had to hone to get edge but overall ok.

Tom : Fits well in my hand & it is easy to use
Sharp right out of the box. Fits well in my hand & it is easy to use. Very please with this item. It is the third knife I have purchased now from Morakniv. I am sure there will be more in the future.
CameronC : The steel is top knotch for this price range which translates into less corrosion and a fantastic edge that is both sharp and du
You will probably not find a knife this cheap that is as well constructed. If they made an 8" I would be ecstatic. The steel is top knotch for this price range which translates into less corrosion and a fantastic edge that is both sharp and durable. Unless you plan to move into the near $100 territory, you won't find a better knife IMO.
Nakz96744 : Not so sharp
I own several Morakniv and love them all. This knife is the exact shape and size that I wanted to process deer. My problem is that it doesn't hold an edge as well my others. Not sure what the difference is.
Amazon Customer : Sharp
I love this knife it slices everything effortlessly
Jason B : Highly recommended
I originally bought this knife as a fillet knife. After I purchases it I ended up buying a leech lake fillet knife, needless to say I never actually used it to fillet fish. My wife confiscated it and started using it as a general kitchen knife and it is by far her favorite. She now wants me to purchase another one so she has two. Great product, great knife I highly recommend.
Raymond Miller : Works better as a paring knife than a filet knife
Not a great filleting knife as the short blade is not flexible like I thought it would be. Very sharp blade and comfortable handle. This is my new paring knife. Canned a lot of tomatoes this month and this has been my go-to knife. Used as a filet knife... not so great; used as a pairing knife... love it!
Allisa : love it!
I do a lot of fish processing and meat cutting. This is by far the sharpest NEW knife I have ever recieved. I just ordered another for a fishing friend of mine. Great knife for the price. Comes with a plastic sheath and belt attachment.
steve benifiel : RUST RUST in a week
Bought one several months ago was fine, then ordered these two and they rust bad,
dm : sharp sharp sharp
great super sharp knife, have one of their utility knives & it is also very very sharp. hi grade stainless keep them on boat- saltwater use so far no rust showing.
Alley cat : As usual, Morakniv is the best!
As usual, Morakniv is the best. A knife that holds an edge makes jobs like cleaning fish a lot easier and quicker. When I'm done, I just run the blade across a steel a few times and it's ready for the next time. I didn't think I'd like the plastic sheath but it totally makes sense. It dosen't trap water in it causing problems. It lets water drain out while protecting the blade when I pack it in my backpack.
Mr.Y : Super sharp and easy to maintain!
I recently got into fishing and needed to find a good fillet knife. I've been a big/longterm fan of Morakniv knives so I decided to purchase this fillet knife. I went on a fishing trip recently and this knife did everything I was looking for it to do. It comes super sharp and ready to fillet any fish. Compared to other Morakniv knives, this was a bit more pricey, but as a brand-loyal shopper, it was more than justified to purchase this fillet knife. I will provide updates as I continue to use this knife, but so far, so good. Morakniv is definitely the budget/high enough quality knife for me.
Amy Ox : Great for removing silver skin from Venison
Right out of the package, I washed the knife and began to remove silver skin off of venison and it removed it with ease. I love that it comes with a plastic sheath, along with two different attachments to attach to your belt or pants either one. So far I've done 4 hams and 2 shoulders and it's held it's edge great, the blade is thin but not overly flexible which makes it easy to hold and comfortable as well.
Cristian Flores : Best fillet knife period
Holds an excellent edge, havent even resharpened just stropped and its still razor sharp, 12c27 is good steel unlike the mystery stainless steel most knives are marketed with, good medium taper and corrosion resistance, comfortable and afordable, not to mention the lifetime warranty, good range of ability can process smaller fish but also handle some bigger stuff like mahi and kinfish. Morakniv's value is excellent
Daniel : Not disappointed!
Product sharp straight out of the package. This is my second morakniv knife and I am not disappointed. I appreciate that the packaging is minimalistic. I deponed 3 pork shoulders and it was still ridiculously sharp.

GSC : Great knife ????
Quality and lightweight. I use this knife on every fishing trip. Hasn't lost it's edge yet and have been using pretty heavily. Would recommend to anyone needing a good knife out in the field.
RJ : Great
I love these knives. They come highly recommended from one of my favorite youtubers! @freerangesailing
md2bee : its a joy. Razor-sharp out of the box
This knife changed my life. Before, filleting fish was a chore. Now, its a joy. Razor-sharp out of the box, this knife has just the right amount of flex and cuts through fish skin like it's not even there. I've gotten tons of great fillets from this knife; I really feel like I'm getting every last bit of meat off the fish and thus paying my due respect to nature's harvest. Will be buying more in the future.

Incredibly sharp knife, I think I own at least one different type of Mora knives that are made and still buying more. I also own expensive knives but nothing beats the quality and price of Mora.
