Questions about Shimano Corvalus 400, Round Freshwater Fishing Reel
Q:
is this right handed ?
Answer: The 300 and 400 should be right handed. The 301 and 401 should be left handed.
Answer: Yes, mine is but there might be left handed ones where the size number will end with a "1" e.g. 201, 301 or 401.
Answer: Yes,this one in the picture is right handed!
Answer: Yes the one I purchased was.
Q:
how does it compare to the abu garcia 6600c4?
Answer: Tighter, more "rough," when reading, but definitely in a good way... a far superior reel, in my opinion.
Q:
Can this handle musky?
Answer: Yes. The reel can definitely handle muskys.
Answer: Yes it should be fine I would get used to the drag first and spool it with at least 15 lb to 20 lb teat
Answer: Yes, But it does not use braided line well at all. Use mono.
Answer: So far got yellow tail with it but for musky it will be hard to handle musky strong fish you can give a shot
Q:
Where is it made
Q:
Is this item China made?
Answer: No. Box says made in Malaysia
Q:
Is this rod ok for 80 pound braid?
Answer: Use 40 lb. this reel tops out around 10lbs of drag, I use it for 15lb monofilament line. It’s not a big game reel but good for Bass.
Q:
Is this a good bass fishing reel or is it too big?
Answer: It’s too big and heavy in my opinion for hundreds of cast. I use mine for soaking bait and trolling.
Q:
When did this come out?
Q:
how much line can it hold, and can it handle 40 to 50 lb catfish?
Answer: As far as the line capacity you should go on the Amazon Web site it will provide line capacities for different size lines and if the drag is set right for the line it should have no trouble handling a big catfish it also depends on the rod you choose (think big) maybe a 9'foot medium heavy
Q:
Can i use 20 pound braid on this?
Answer: Yes, you can use any type of line
Q:
can this reel be used in salt water?
Answer: Yes you can but.... I use mine in salt water for rock cod. I use 65 lbs braid so I can get more line on it. I use a power knob because the standard handle is too hard to operate with 8oz or above sinkers. I also clean the reel (exterior) ASAP to preserve performance and condition.
Answer: I use it in salt water, I clean it off after every trip still works great!
Q:
Can only 11lb.drag be good for musky?
Q:
Could this reel handle 8 oz lure?
Answer: This reel can’t handle the wait of the rod it’self save your money buy something better.
Answer: Yes, it will.
Q:
what rod can i use for cast with soft lures in model 400 and 300 ?
Answer: I build custom fishing rods. I added the 400 to a Muskie rod I made. It's 7 feet long and made to throw the big lures. In my opinion, this reel is for heavy casting, not soft lures. I use a Shimano Curado for casting soft lures or a spinning reel on a 6 1/2 foot medium heavy casting rod (I like St. Croix, but there are many good ones out ther).
Answer: Hi, I use it with a 7ft med.heavy rod, it casts well with a 1 - 2 oz weight. If your soft lures are heavy it may work.
Q:
the one in the pic is left handes
Answer: This is a right handed reel. Thanks.
Answer: looks more like a right-handed reel.
Answer: Right

Product reviews of Shimano Corvalus 400, Round Freshwater Fishing Reel
Joseph : Love it
great swim bait or saltwater reel setup.
C Bryan : but it appears to be fine. I'll repost if there's a problem
Haven't had time to use it yet, but it appears to be fine. I'll repost if there's a problem.

Hambone : Absolutely a waste of money
*returning* these as quickly as possible do not waste your money. Bought two of these for my father to fish for mullet a very small fish and within an hour of there first use both the drags quit working and you could not set the hook. Very disappointed I would buy something better built.
Amazon Customer : Lacks power for big lures.
This reel cannot handle the fall Musky casting season. Once you get into the larger 12" and 10 oz baits, this reel feels very underpowered.
I returned it, as it wasnt sufficient for a back up Musky reel. Youu may have better luck by adding a power handle, I didn't risk it.
CJ : good choice for salmon fishing
very goog smooth
but sometime line mixed
good choice for salmom fishing
price goog
nice casting

Jesus Rafael Gregorio Cova Camino : Excelente reel...
I have very good appreciation concerning this reel as my requirements within both freshwater and saltwater meet my expectations for appropriate use.
Sandy Smart : Smooth
I have been fishing with this reel for weeks. This is worth every penny. I don't have a problem with the big fish any more, smooth reel. Fresh or salt water.
Pg Anker : Shimano Corvalus CVL400 Baitcast Reel :Excellent !
An absolute pleasure to fish with. I use it for tigerfishing in Africa and what a pleasure. Tigerfish is a fresh water gamefish and one hell of a fighter but the Corvalus proofed it's worth.
Young : Great Reel
I use this reel for catfishing and it hasn't failed me yet. The half piece thumb bar, should it break, guarantees you won't have to buy a new reel and can just replace the bar. For the price this is a great reel.
ken : Solid reel for the money
I use this reel for trolling in area lakes for Hybrid and Striped bass. It is a smooth and dependable reel for the money.
Amazon Customer : Lacks power for big lures.

I returned it, as it wasnt sufficient for a back up Musky reel. Youu may have better luck by adding a power handle, I didn't risk it.
Amazon Customer : Love it
Love this thing. I’ve used it for striped bass, catfish and salmon in fresh water, and rock cod in salt water. It’s very durable and can do a lot for its size. The only thing I can recommend is that if you do use it for saltwater, get a power knob to go with it.
Desynerguy Designs : Good all around reel.
I used it for a week first as a spare. But quickly made it my go to reel. Love it
Apeety : If you want a super smooth, fast retrieving reel that won't break the ...
This reel is smooth! I purchased this reel earlier this year strictly for our annual Canada fishing trip. We throw big baits for big pike and this was the reel for the job! I used it a few times musky fishing prior to our trip to "break it in." I used this reel all week with no mishaps. I threw all sizes and weights for baits with no backlashes. I equipped this reel with 50lb braid and there is a slight hum while reeling bigger baits but not too noticeable. If you want a super smooth, fast retrieving reel that won't break the bank, this reel's for you.
Jason Bernal : BEST REEL FOR THE MONEY HANDS DOWN!
BEST REEL FOR THE MONEY! IF YOU ARE A MUSKY GUY ON A BUDGET, THIS IS THE REEL FOR YOU, JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU KEEP THE BOLTS TIGHT EACH TIME YOU USE IT!
Jeremy W. : My Favorite Reel
I love the Corvalus... I paired it with a Shimano Clarus rod and call it the Clarus Corvalus. It's perfect for all types of fishing. it's as tough as it looks and pulls in huge 20-35lb fish with ease. I personally put 80-100lb braid on mine and it holds a ton of line!! I also like it because it has a bait clicker just in case you leave it on a fishing post and walk away. I think at $99 it's a great price to get into the Shimano game AND also have a great reel that will last a long time. It's not too heavy and the well built construction gives you peace of mind that when a fish bites you're going to catch it.
