I really can't answer this, because I haven't yet fished competitively, but I thought this would make a good thread. What's the most you've won in a fishing tournament or competition?
My biggest achievement is never coming in last. I've never been in the money though.lol. I don't compete much.
This is a great idea for a thread.
Bragging rights lol
$5,000
Ive cashed a few checks in the dozen or so tournys ive entered. .$850 for my one and only win being the biggest
So in short i have spent WAY more than ive won lol
Team tournament . $6,000 .
Yeah I didn't figure this sport pays off for most of you.
A fully rigged Nitro bass boat that they valued at $25,000 at the time...

$ 336.00 and about another 150 in gear (I am keeping my day job!)
Respect.

Ya know i think my favorite part of my first win was every single angler said "nice job " or " good work man!" As they drove by while i was packin up my gear and getting my boat ready for the ride home
All I've won is a couple combos and a net - maybe with a value of $100 combined. But I've only fished 2 local tournaments, and only paid $15 entry fee for each.
$100. I don't fish tournaments, but buddies and I will sometimes have a big fish pot.
Jeff
Enough to pay for my annual fishing expenses minus fuel costs.
$45.00 in a company tourney for big bass.
$3k but lost the one that would have put a new boat in my driveway, so it was bitter-sweet.
1200 in a union tourny at LOZ.
My best year I was in the money 29 out of 35 events. After expenses, cleared about $39,000. That was less than my regular job. That's when I decided not to pursue the dream.
I fish club tournaments now, but it doesn't consume me. I have a good job and learn new stuff every day. It's fun to go to work. We just built our first iPad app for our magazine. We just submitted it to Apple and we're waiting for approval. None of us had ever done anything like this before. For old guys like me, it is all new.
I don't remember the amount, but I remember thinking my gas was paid for that weekend. I've had a few of those. My goal in the next few years is to win one these Big Bass Bash style tournaments where I can win enough money for a good used truck and an upgraded used boat (dream big, right?). My wife will be using that money for siding and/or a new deck, by the way; but it would have been enough for the stuff I want.
A #5 Biggie Size from Wendy's.
Friend and I had a contest at one of the local ponds for biggest bass a couple years back. Best meal of my life. You asked for competitive and that was a competition :-)
500 for big bass. 10 seconds left to go back in check in... bam 5.5 pounder 19 inches long.
Also might be fishing the Oakley Big Bass Tour next year.

You and me both
The most money I have won for a tourney $5,250
Winning Angler of the Year in my bass club and the respect that came with it was far more valuable to me.
$795 hopefully that'll be bumped up this year, but I just started fishing tournaments a few years ago and I'm looking to start fishing a few bigger ones other than just with my local club and the few opens I've been in in the past.

Maybe it wasn't more than your job, but that's still mighty impressive!

Pulling up to the ramp and being included the group that "could" take the big check home today, means more than the money I win.

that is one fat chunk of a fish
Are you fishing the Lake of the Ozarks 'Big Bass Bash' in April and/or October? I think I'll actually be making it out for both this year. I'll have a much better answer to this topic when I lip that 8 pounder. On 2/24/2015 at 7:10 AM, gardnerjigman said:You and me both
I personally have won a few million...wait fishing video games count, right?

Think we are doing the April one for sure. Not sure on the October one yet. We are fishing another series around here too, think we have a tournament every weekend from the end of this month to the end of April.
Won a 1 fish tuesday night tournament on Lake Wallenpaupack. Big money baby. $156.
Not nearly enough large tournaments in my state. Biggest chance Ive played for is $1000 first place, didnt even cut a check in that one came in 11th in a 50 boat field with the slowest boat on the lake though. Felt pretty good.
A few hundred dollars in a state tournament. Won 2 pike tournaments.
Money never lasts, I like the trophies and plaques better because they hold memories forever. My biggest single event check was somewhere around $800. It was $650 for 1st and I took big fish too and that put me over $800 as I recall. That was also my last win, I never won again after that.
about 150 i think... me and my partner got second place and big bass. Same lake tomorrow! Wont be sleeping tonight thats for sure! Wish me luck, and I hope everyone has a good fishin weekend

So I guess what the non- fishers say is true: "exactly how does having a really fast boat make you catch bigger fish". Nice job.
I've won every tournament I've ever been in. Won a few reels tackle boxes and trophy's. Felt good but it didn't really mean that I'm that good because the tournaments I've fished have been little local $3 tournaments for everybody even if you don't know how to fish. I'm gonna see what I can do at the Oakley Georgia big bass classic next weekend see if I can handle real competition.

Thanks, honestly I thought I had it won. It was pretty humbling, had I prefixed I might have known to stay, left fish to find fish thinking I whacked the big ones.
It sure does limit your decisions. An hour run for me is half hour or less for most guys. My boat is also aluminum and my fav local lake has some massive boats on it.
Still have fun...
I beat a currently touring Elite pro and former AOY on his home lake last fall. It wasn't my biggest money win, but my win I'm most proud of for sure.

Swindle?

No. In his defense, it was a buddy tournament and he was fishing with his son, who is a very good young fisherman. Then, I was fishing with my handicapped friend out of a 2 man so neither of us were at our full potential.
My sister came oh-so-close to winning a million dollars.
When we were younger, we were fishing & came to a bridge populated with swallows, who were zipping to & fro. She cast her buzzbait & in mid-air, it smacked a swallow. She ended up with a huge backlash as feathers slowly floated down around us. After she picked the backlash clean & was getting ready to cast again, I said "I'll give you a million bucks if you can do that again". Being a smart-aleck teenager, she fires a cast towards the top of the bridge instead towards the water. Didn't hit a bird, but smacked on the upper beam about a foot from one of their mud nests.
I'm lucky, I'd still be paying off that bet...
Last Spring ~ I won a hat.
A quality cap for sure.
However, the Bragging Rights value put it up there . . . . .

I know exactly who you're talking about. He's one of the really good dudes on tour, that's an awesome accomplishment/memory.

It was an awesome feeling. He's one of my favorites and I've had the good fortune of talking to him several times and he's always very polite and willing to listen to anyone that wants to ask a question or tell a story. I'm sure I could fish against him 100 more times on his lake and I'd be lucky to win again. I almost feel bad talking about it because I have so much respect for the guy.
I believe I know who you are talking about, and he is one of my favorites as well. I have not yet fished against anyone of that stature, but I'd be lying if I said the first thing I'd look into at the weigh-in was anything other than how I stacked up against the big pro. I'm sure they don't mind regular guys like me getting a lot of satisfaction out of topping them at an isolated event. They know better than anyone that fishing is a bit like poker; it's the results over time that really separate the very good from the great (Not that I'm very good yet. Maybe someday?).On 3/22/2015 at 7:39 PM, Bluebasser86 said:I beat a currently touring Elite pro and former AOY on his home lake last fall.
