Alright, post 'em up. Lately I have been craving smallies. I love the fight, and they are just beautiful. My favorie bass for sure. So, this post is dedicated to those who have targeted and caught good sized bronzies. Show 'em, brag about 'em, tell the story about how you caught 'em. I have to say, my biggest is a pound, so I can't say anything. Brag away.
The fat one was the best fighting freshwater fish I have ever
caught, just over 7 lbs. An hour and a half later, my personal
best. About four inches longer, but just a pound heavier.

What were you using? What awesome fish.
Not my personal best, but my 2nd biggest, which would be my biggest in a long time.
5-0, drop shot 4" Power Worm.

Large green minnows, commercially raised; fished on a
Gamakatsu #6 Octopus Circle Hook, Yo-Zuri Hybrid, G.
Loomis PR844S and Shimano Stella 2500FA.
The fish were caught below Pickwick Dam in January, 2005.
The week before I had my best smallmouth outing ever: 15
fish, 7 over 5 lbs! Some pictures from that outing are in this article:

Best smallie was a 4lb 11oz on Champlain a few years ago fishing the annual derby Father;s Day weekend. Came on a 3" twist tail grub in motor oil color on a round head jig dragged on bottom. Missed a prize by 1oz!
I've never caught or fished for SM in my life until last week. I fished the Umpqua River near the Oregon coast.
UNBELIEVABLE..............
Now I fully understand it when you guys said "once you start catching smallmouth, you'll have a hard time going back to LM."
It's so true. On my first outing, my brother and I caught an estimated 70 SM. A lot of smaller ones but some decent ones as well. The largest that day was only a little over 1 pound but they are so much fun to catch on light tackle and since I was catching stuff virtually all day, there was no boredom. It was an exciting day.
Since the Umpqua is less than an hour away, I've gone 2 other times. The last time was Sunday. We didn't boat as many fish but they were generally much larger. We boated at least 10 that were over 1.5 lbs. Certainly not huge but it makes for some great times.
Anyway, so far my personal best is a 1.10.
Great fun. The LM fishing around here is good but I'm sold on the SM fishing now. I have a feeling the lakes won't be seeing the bottom of my boat for a while to come.
That's a beauty!

My biggest smallie was last year. A 7lb-6oz beauty.

There's a Nice Looking Fish! I am still trying to break that 7 pound mark and when I do, there will be a replica on my wall.
LCM, Your not that far away from lake erie. Here is my biggest from this year. 6lb-12oz.

I fish Erie all the time. I have caught many big smallmouth, but nothing yet over 7 pounds (that seems to be my personal mark to beat). Come this fall, I am going to hit the lake hard for that elusive fish (and hopefully it will have as nice of markings as your 7 pounder had)
Man-oh-man... I'm drolling!
AWESOME smallies!
So far my biggest is 18in, did not have a scale so no weight. Caught on a jig with a chigger craw. Hopefully will break that at Pickwick next year if not sooner.
I was fishing yesterday and had a huge smallie throw the hook right at shore. Getting a good look at the fish made me even more frustrated because I saw that the fish was 4 or 5 pounds. My biggest I have landed was about 4 pounds in the Susquehanna.
This is my biggest this year. Another Lake Erie fish. Sorry for the crappy photo.
4-2 last Sunday on Ky lake

My best was 17 1/2 inches no photo, no weight I caught it on a firetiger colored jitterbug, 6 pound test and my trout rod in a slow part on the Juniata river. I fought that fish longer than any fish I ever fought, but it was so amazing when I got him in.
My 5.2 lb PB this spring . . .

Beautiful!
;D ;D
My PB was 19.5 inches scale registered 4lbs but the picture I have isn't that great. I held the fish against a boat oar and it suffered massive camera shrinkage. The paddle on the oar is 24" long and 10" wide.
Mine is set at 19" long girth of 13 1/2".
No weight or Photo :'( Oh wells.
My biggest was 6lb-15oz. I caught her in August of 2002, on a custom painted #7 Shad Rap in 12 feet of water. Three years ago I finally had one over seven pounds, but I lost it at the boat because I was stupid.
A few weeks ago, when Ghoti was visiting, we saw a smallie floating that was well over seven pounds. It broke my heart, that I didn't catch it before it died.
Falcon
Mine is just over 3.5 lbs. Caught this spring.

Lake Erie - the big water ones fight the best.
I only have been there a few times but the big smallies are great.
Broke my PB 2 times this year...first with a 5-14 which is the first pic, and then a 6-6 that I forgot my camera for. Looking forward to the fall, when the big girls start to bite again! I need a 7+ to get a replica done!
Those last two are swimming footballs.

I'm still looking for a 7#'er. These are as close as I've come so far.

19.5" - 6#5oz from September '07
My 9 yr olds PB 4.3lbs caught on an ultra light dropshot rig with 6lb line. Northern Michigans Lake Avalon. 9 minutes until it was in the boat.
