I want to take my son Fishing around Christmas or January to get out of this bitter Cold.....I know Florida would Probably be the place.? Any suggestions for a 5 day stay somewhere? Never fished florida.. Any help would be appreciated....Thanks for any help,
I do have a boat but would probably plan on flying and taking some gear..A guided trip or renting a bass boat would be nice. I thought about el salto but am a little nervous about taking my 16 yr old to that area.
More information is needed. Do you have a boat, or will you rent one? What kind of fishing do you want to do? What's your budget?
I cannot provide you with any information about Florida since it's 1300 miles south of here. But for the members who have the experience to help you, they'll need to know some or all of the above.
Stay at Roland Martin Marina on the Big O , call Steve Daniel and book a trip, and there are some excellent bank fishing opportunity's around there also. Brian.
Mexico......three lakes down there with all inclusive lodging and well guides to fish. El Salto, Baccarac(think that's how its spelled) and there is one other lake down there....Picachos or something like that. Here's one of the links for Billy Chapman's lodge. They pick you up at the airport and drive you back to the lodge which from my talking with him is about an hour and a half from the airport. Just a thought but only works if you have passports. Otherwise I'd hit Florida and do some Peacock Bass fishing as well.
Welcome to Lake El Salto Web Site- Lake El Salto Bass ...
Highly recommend you fish both saltwater and freshwater when your down here for vacation.
Let me know if you wanna go to El Salto I know the owner of the lodge. I can get any info you need
For ultimate convenience, Roland Martin's is hard to beat. They have a motel on the property, tiki bar/restaurant, etc. The only downside would be the cost of the guide if you go multiple days. If you plan on Florida I really don't think you can beat Okeechobee. I would suggest taking a road trip with your boat, take a day with the guide and figure the rest out yourself. That's without taking your location into account.

Totally agree.
Florida, Louisiana or Texas for great fresh and saltwater fishing.
Be sure to have a guide for both.
Have a fun time.
Great present!!!!

You get to see the sun rise on the coast east and set on the west coast. Catch a plethora of various species and maybe bump up your PB. Also the drive from East Coast to west coast can be done in under 3 hours, so more of your time is spent on the water, and enjoying yourself than in the car.
Good Luck and Tight lines!

dang, sound like my perfect vacation for sure, time to save up my money. lol
Not a single thing to worry about going to El Salto. They'll pick you up right at the airport. Drive you directly to the lodge. It's a "bucket list" trip. You'll be treated wonderfully. I highly recommend it. By the way, they offer discounted father and son packages.
Make sure the guide you get offers some type of money back guarantee if you don't catch fish,or don't get a Bass over 5 pounds(at least).I know this seems like a lot to ask,but almost every body of water down here has 5-8 pound bass that can be caught from the bank.Makes no sense to hire a guide if he can't guarantee a 5 pound bass or better from a boat.Same goes for a Saltwater guide,if he can't give a guarantee find one that does. There's tons of guides here so you have many to choose from.
The place on my list would be Ray Scott's lakes near Montgomery Alabama. It is pricey but I have read nothing but great reviews. Roland Martin called The Presidents Lake the best lake in America. Rick Clunn caught his PB there of 14 lbs. They also have a lake stocked with only female bass so they can manage numbers for maximum growth.
I would think the weather would be fairly warm that far south in December. According to reviews, you will definitely catch bass. The chance of catching some over five pounds will also be pretty good. Not to mention that the food is chef prepared and the lodging looks first class. I am definitely saving for a trip.
I went to Mexico for my highschool graduation present. It was a trip I'll never forget!
Check out captain Shane out of the Everglades. You can watch his videos on you tube. He seems like a great guy, and there is no one doing what he does. He catches PIGS And I have yet to see another boat around him in any of his videos. Check him out
If i could pick any lake to go fish it would be a no brainer to go to EL Salto! So many great fish there.
Has anyone gone to El Salto here and caught a bass over 13 pounds?
There's a new lake called pichacos only been open for 2 seasons.supposed to be just as good or better than el salto. I'd forget about florida. For me it would be a no brainer and I'd go to LA PERLA RANCH, Tx. Then Mexico.
